Why Can't Call of Duty Move On From Modern Warfare and Black Ops? 

The reason is because the OG MW and OG Black Ops were so successful Activision wants to milk said franchises. Black Ops is going well with the recent Cold War and coming Black Ops 6. But I can’t say the same about the new modern warfare. I would love for them to make a ghost 2 sequel.

I think a dedicated COD Vietnam game with SP could work wonders. They are by far the most memorable sections in the Black Ops Campaigns.

Here's why people hated COD ghost 1: the campaign was 3 stories cramped into 1 2: the multi-player had huge maps and coloring of the game was so bad that you couldn't see the enemy you had to use thermal scopes on all of your guns 3: at the time boots on the ground was getting old and everyone wanted something new

It's sad how they use the nostalgia of the original Black Ops and Modern Warfare games but forget what made the originals good, which is the creativity and innovations that these games had. I'm tired of seeing the same characters, maps, weapons, killstreaks, and game modes every year. I would love to see a neo-western game inspired by movies like No Country for Old Man, or maybe a Tech Noir standalone Zombies game inspired by Blade Runner and Terminator, there are endless possabilities, but instead they go the safe route and relay on cheap nostalgia.

I think one of the biggest problems is that failure isn't looked upon favorably. If a game fails or is bad, consumers get angry, the studio reputation gets dragged through the mud, the game could fail to make back money, etc Consumers may not be at fault for bad video games being made but are at fault for devs want to not deviate from what is shown to work. Some people complain about remakes but for every person that complains about them, there are many who buy them and even enjoy them. Nothing wrong with that, but you should understand that when wondering why remakes and remasters are made so much.

When the devs deviate, the games get hated on. When they don’t deviate, the games get hated on.

I'd love it if CoD made spin offs, there is so much potential that I hadn't thought about before you brought it up. A regular CoD game but following Los Vaqueros after the events of MW2 when they have to recapture (or finally take down) Valeria, a stealth game following Ghost doing wetwork before joining 141, a CoD game with management mechanics about Shadow Company where you don't just go into combat, but have to manage staff, base facilities and contracts from different people (let's say Shepherd, Farah and minor factions for extra cash like NGOs), a bit inspired by MGSV or even take the Battlefield 1 approach where you show modern conflicts (possibly those of the games) from the perspective of random grunts

with different teams and passion making cod series and recycle that tradition Activision keep milking with recycle over over again

Tbh I don't think they even have to make an entire other game for new stories, they could just use the CODHQ for it and make campaign DLCs for the people who actually want to experience and buy it (not have it to be 70 buckos ofc) and maybe exclusive rewards with the DLCs that are available for only like a week or something that isn't P2W and things to get when you complete the DLC that you can use for MP and WZ

I think it’s time to end the reboot series for both MW and BO. If they wanna do spinoff to one of characters (like Ghost rumored to be in 2027) that would be sick.

Thank god someone made this video. Innovation is key in making a game. One thing where the devs also had a massive opportunity was warzone. Even though we dont have a story, a game even if its a multiplayer, game with other online features that make a good online game could be done. But realistically, it would be 100% beneficial to dial down on the revival of old games and series. Even bringing back cancelled titles could also be a good thing as well

Ghosts was a great game and not everyone recognized that when it came out. I think Activision and the devs should have had a lot more confidence in themselves. 2013 - IW - Ghosts 2014 - SHG - Advanced Warfare 2015 - TRCH - Black Ops 3, but in line with BO2, rather than chasing AW’s movement, tech and setting 2016 - IW - Ghosts 2 2017 - SHG - Advanced Warfare 2 10 years ago the devs were willing to create original stories, but I don’t know what it will take for them to take that leap again. On the other hand, I really like having Modern Warfare and Black Ops back. I’d be okay with adding studios and a game comes out about every 8 months. We get MW and BO, but also some new franchises. By like 2028 they could wrap up BO and MW and create new franchises

I would make a COD that deals with the WW1 or the Civil War, sure the weapons aren't good, but it is something new

Without watching the video I can tell you they did move on from both the Black Ops series and the Modern Warfare series, with games like Advanced Warfare, Ghosts, Infinite Warfare but the community didn’t take it well and kept asking for a more classic game “boots on the ground” they asked for remakes and the devs got an answer when people played the Modern Warfare remastered more than their new ip Infinite Warfare and they rebooted the whole series, the community will never be satisfied.

I don't have a problem with Black Ops, but the issue with MW is the characters. IW got so invested in Price, Soap, Ghost and Gaz that the whole MW series turned, from a military shooter, to an avengers wannabe. They insist on puting the focus on these legendary, larger than life heroes, instead of authentic military conflicts. I remember the OG Cpt Price from CoD 1 and 2, way back in 2003-2005. He was just an NPC, just one that couldn't be killed. He had some voicelines, but they were just mostly related to the mission. There was no avengers superheroe sh*t, no saving the world. Just a war and you, private nobody, fighting on the frontlines.

As someone who just picked up cod again after a long hiatus, ghosts was the last one I played, mw3 is a blast. I can’t explain how awesome it feels to relive all the memories I have with the classic maps in a modern game. The mechanics of mw3 are so refined it’s like a completely different game than the og mw series, there is so much more complexity in the gameplay that makes it so rewarding, especially now that I play on PC. However, if you’ve been grinding all the modern cods, I can see how it’s probably not that rewarding and probably feels really stale at this point. I mean, the games come out every year. One year is not enough time to make a video game. And to come up with a new story with cut scenes, interactive dialogue and action sequences, new multiplayer maps and game mechanics, it’s just a lot to ask out of a developer so it makes a slot of sense that they rehash a lot of old content and ideas.

Like everyone else in the comments say: They bring nostalgia, everyone knows the older games. So why try something new when the name sells itself?

They are kind of doing something different with call of duty black ops 6 with following adler insted of Mason and Woods and going into a time period we have never seen in Cod

I will say honestly I was surprised by Cold War with some of the changes and ideas of dialogue choices different endings etc

They definitely learned that its easier to sell the characters from Modern Warfare and Black Ops rather then introducing only new characters in a new story/game. Even a Shadow Company based game would be cool, out of the whole MW II campaign I found the short ride in the car as Shadow Company the best mission. 😅

Activision or Infinity Ward, and Treyarch should make something new when they are gonna release new CoD games in the future, something else with a new campaign story, making new characters, new mechanics, and having some of the old mechanics in their newer CoD games.

Look I know most of you reading this comment may end up hating me after this but I want them to make games like BO3 but just where they explain the story in a better way, because you might not realize it but COD BO3 has a really deep and interesting plot compared to other COD's, all it needed was better presentation.

im not counting the first 3 cods but it started as modern warfare went to black ops then jetpacks the exact same will happen to us we got modern warfare next we will get a couple years of black ops then on to jetpacks

These subtitles are just to sell the franchise, everyone knows Modern Warfare, everyone knows Black Ops, so why would anyone buy a Call of Duty Los Vaqueros? The franchise was rooted in these two subtitles and knowing Activision until these two subtitles stop selling a lot they will not stop producing MW and BO

To Infinity Ward’s credit, at least they experimented with new titles, Ghosts and Infinite Warfare, they failed sure, but at least they tried something new. In fact they’re the only legacy CoD dev to do so. Treyarch, the only other legacy CoD dev, hasn’t made an original title that isn’t Black Ops since World @ War and that game was set as a prequel to the Black Ops series. If anything, it’s Treyarch who I want to see make a new title the most since they’ve not made a non-Black Ops title since 2008 and they’re the CoD dev I trust most now.

i think the reason activision, infinity ward all those companies didn't want to keep innovating after they tried AW, IW, ghosts, was because most people consider those 3 games to be the worst ones of the entire cod history, and I think that turned them away from it, whether it be because it wasn't bringing in enough money for activision, or because they didn't want to dissatisfy their audience

I like MW and Black Ops, i agree they need to find new things to do. Maybe they could make a Call of Duty based around the wars that followed the 9/11 attacks. Don't EVEN make it a MW of BO game. Sure it may feel like a MW or BO game since its set in the 2000s to 2010s but theres opportunities to follow a NEW set of characters that doesnt involve TF141. 😀 Edit: The new Black Ops seems that it may dive into a bit of the 9/11 era, but I'd still love to see what ideas they can get from the events that occured after.

This is why Activision should really consider stop doing yearly releases despite the guaranteed success and income. That way at least, if a cod game is set around the same eras with same characters it won't feel as overused if there's a few YEARS between titles and studios. Plus the added development time would really help spike the games quality again while the current title is being supported for a couple of years too.

Cuz we hated on every other game HARD. IMO Ghosts and Advanced Warfare were fresh and new and actually very decent games, they had their problems but didn't deserve as much hate as they got. Activison just ruined them with a couple stupid practices/features like the supply drops that made people hate AW. So now those names have been tarnished and that's probably why they cancelled AW2, and Activision seems to think we hate new ideas but we just hate the scams they introduced alongside them

I loved MW 2019 but I believe if they got rid of all existing characters and just kept it original, it would be better.

The black ops universe I think has started to move away from mason woods and Hudson with cw Adler was the new main character and focus I can see black ops never ending just a new roster of characters and the mw as well just different stories I’ve said before with bo4 closing off the multiverse I would love to see that before the erase of the multiverse some characters jumped through a portal like hesh and Logan they fight their way through the zombies horde along side deadbolt or whoever and restore their universe and we get the ghost franchise back and continue

Modern Warfare and Black Ops were the two best COD games because it has been successful by having a great story telling, gameplay, etc. Also COD developers came up with unique ideas into the game which made fans happy. The downfall part about Black Ops series was BO3, BO4, and Cold War did not had properly developed and production. BO3 lacked on campaign and few other things, BO4 had no campaign and wasn’t twice as good as BO3, and Cold War lacked on multiplayer mode and development due to COVID-19. Three black ops games had potential to be a great game if the company put enough time to develop the game. MW 2023 was hated because of rushed development, $70 DLC, and bad campaign. The developers of COD should have done better regarding to releasing a new Call Of Duty game. For a while, fans have been disappointed with the company because they are not giving what the fans want. The reason fans give a bad name to MW 2023 and some other COD titles because of what the company has done. Fans were the first to complain that we don’t get the things that we want in ordered to be satisfied. Black Ops series has more story to tell because we want to learn more about historical wars, Mason and his family, etc. Now that Black Ops 6 is an upcoming game, it’s going to save and fix the franchise and COD game because they going to give what the fans want. Black Ops 6 is going to have Gulf War setting, round based zombies, gobble gums, etc to bring back the good old days.

People complained when they would try something else. Infinite warfare was considered one of the worst call of duties of all time, and so was advanced warfare and ghosts. There were all very good reasons behind disliking these games, but I'm sure with how lazy activision is they would rather take less risk and continue making games off the exact same series.

Everyone is tire of the Past Everyone is tire of the future Everyone is tire of Mix eras (Which there's literally only 2 games, Bo2 and Bo4, which could be debated) No one wants super fast movement, since it will cause a skill gap No one wants slow movement because its to slow and not fun (MW2 remake) No one wants to pay for season pass since their broke and would rather have a Brocken experience (Not just COD) There are to many studios releasing PVP titles which just makes actual good ones look unoriginal And I can keep going, but if I do, then this comment will become an essay.
