there should be "fanless mode" 1 button setting where it automatically will trigger throttling, but unfortunately its not so easy to turn i7 laptop into fanless mode
Tent mode helps with ventilation when you plug in external keyboard and mouse, which is especially useful for a 2in1 laptop with fan. I used to use it for light gaming. Great video btw and thanks for sharing your user experience.
I used to own this model and the biggest problem is it throttles quite often due to thermal and power limitation, but the design, the aluminum chassis was top notch.
Nice video. I bought a refurbished dell xps 9365, fanless of course and I was wondering about the heating beneath. Your just answered my questions. Thank you. I don't enjoy the heating though 😒.
I wonder why with such good and regular videos the algorith isn't pushing this content more... Like you, I hate fan noise, I have lost hope in Intel, so hopefully with time ARM will become a valid alnternative on Windows tooo
Thank you, and I'm not sure either. But it's fine, I still enjoy making videos just for the sake of talking about cool products. I'm crossing my fingers too, I wish Microsoft had made an SQ2 version of the Surface Laptop Go to have a fanless ultrabook with 4G connectivity.
This device definitely caught my eye a few years back but I didn't need it. Now.... I'm just tempted to pick one up to use for light web browsing, emails, etc. It's a shame to hear there won't be any follow ups on the fanless ones. Does it still get updates with windows 11 around the corner?
You should be able to push an update to Windows 11, but depending on the model you get it might take a little effort. The 8th gen model will hold up a bit better, but make sure you get a good price
Y series slow cpu(i7 8500Y on mine) that keep throttling, crap battery and chin camera.... have a unit sitting on my lap now. Brilliant QHD+ display but it's just too slow for anything useful. it chugs even with basic web browsing and MS Office apps. Being fanless, the toasty cpu end up killing the battery lifespan within the first two years of using this machine. Bought at the tail end of 2019 and the battery has lost almost 60% of its design capacity less than 2 years later.
Me too, except I'm running linux, my main issue with it is it takes longer to get past the bios than it does to boot linux (9 seconds to get to the login screen) also it uses a few percent of battery every hour while in suspend.
Back in June or July 2020, I have read some article about x CISC vs RISC CPU Architecture This Article said, RISC is better than CISC when talking about Efficiency, Thermals and Power Consumption
Yes, I've also seen videos and articles on the RISC architecture and how it could lead to more efficient computers. But it's tough to know whether that will ever manifest itself as a laptop CPU, and even with better efficiency, you still can have better performance with heat dissipation using a fan. That's partially what gives the M1 MacBook Pro additional headroom over the M1 MacBook Air.
Hey buddy, are there 15inch fan less laptops? I got a asus ux305 and I love that one. But I'm looking for a upgrade. Any recommendations 13 or 15 inch. Win only.
I'm not aware of any 15 inch laptops. Fanless devices now that I'm familiar with are lower end Surface Pros, the Surface Pro X, and other Windows on ARM PCs
Thanks a lot for the info man. Could you please give me your advice as someone who's reviewed so many laptops. I need a fanless laptop only for basic office stuff and no multi tasking. It has to be light and with good build quality (no quaking or creaking etc) On the cheap end - I'm fine with using 1-2 or even 3year old models if they're still good for office tasks and are fanless.
Unfortunately, fanless laptops aren't very common now. If you don't need a traditional clamshell laptop, then the entry level Surface Pros often have no fan. If you need a clamshell, then many of the Windows on ARM devices will have no fan. They will handle basic office stuff fine and have good efficiency, even if they don't have the horsepower of an Intel chip
Do you guys think we should still get the laptop I saw the laptop on eBay as I need one for school just to do normal school stuff and watch Netflix and it’s quite cheap I prefer it to be more updated but if it’s still works like new I acc wouldn’t mind it what do you guys think ?
@@innoiso all right thank you so much what 2 in 1 laptops do you recommend for cheap around 300-350 with 256gb and 8gb ram or more I don’t mind refurbished x
My dude, check out Alldocube GT Book i1405. I got one. I can play Arma 3, old Need for Speed, Aerofly FS 2, Mudrunner 2... 0db. But I do have it on a stand so the bottom is well above the table and I have a quiet desk fan pointing at it. I put thermal paste between the CPU heat sink and the aluminum case bottom. Best part is the colorful IPS 16:9 1080p display which at 14 inches looks perfectly sharp. I wanted to buy a gaming laptop but with the fan noise and non IPS screens, I'll keep my current laptop.
