RU-vidrs make money because you're watching their video. So if he's actually destroying the laptop, you're giving him money to do that kind of stupid thing. That's OK for channels making videos for that purpose, but this is a tech review channel.

If you pay attention will see that it's a camera trick, it's a normal xps 13(the down bezel is fully glossy) and the xps 13 2-in-1 folded

Dave, you left out mentioning a huge feature of this 2-in-1 which is pen support. Being able to write and illustrate with the device easily justifies the 2-in-1 mode for people who can use that.

@TomahokStites

Hyper Chromatica I would normally think a 17 inch laptop would be too big. But with the small bezels of the XPS line, it could be similar in size to a regular 15.6 laptop.
@damau5687
@damau5687 7 лет назад
TomahokRU-vid i think a 17 inch screen wud need bigger bezels than this by default just for the rigidity. although, 8-10 mm bezels wud still be nice... I'd wanna buy that..lol
@skyangelnaruto

That would be so amazing. I had never thought of it like that. With a 15.6 inch footprint it will beat every other 17" computer on the market.

It'll never happen since Dell needs to sell the alienware lineup with 1060 chips. And honestly 17" laptops are pretty awful, just buy and external monitor if you want a big screen.

I've got one and I love it. Performance is really good considering it's a Y series. Opening the laptop is probably the most annoying thing because it doesn't have a lip so you have to wedge it open. No volume buttons for other positions can be quite annoying. Watching things in presentation mode is beautiful

Had one, 2017, paid 1500 for it. I finally sold it for 900 and picked up this 2/1 for 800 off ebay. The XPS is hands down the best, there is no Touchscreen issue the HP is plagued with, the screen is crystal clear, it doesn't lag. Dell just does it right.

I have a XPS 9365, bought it on Ebay for 800 with 16gb and 256gb. I bought one of them Samsung 970 Pro's on sale 512gb for 200. I tell you what this damn laptop is Smoking fast, super light and great long lasting battery, not a better computer on the market for ultra portable. Also I went with a 1080p monitor, longer battery and no difference in quality.

Trick in the beginning: keyboard is from the 2 in 1 (folded) and it's stacked on the regular xps 13. Then just make sure the camera can't pick up the lower keyboard, and you have a scary intro. Well done, and good review.

I tried this side by side with the spectre 360 and honestly I think the HP walked all over this thing. Even the yoga 720 was really impressive. Hard choice between the 15" Yoga 710 and the 15" Spectre. Both felt great but the HP has the windows hello cam but questionable black and bronze color aesthetics.

Not a big fan of Intel reintegrating Core M into the Core I series naming this generation. When most people see these side by side they're not going to know why the i7 Y series is going to be slower than the regular i7 in the non-yoga doing XPS 13.

Good honest review. It's always the little things that most maisntream reviews fail to address and you hit the nail on the head.The whole concept of 2-in-1s doesn't quite make sense - either make it a tablet with detachable keyboard (and a full OS, not Android or cut-down Windows) or go for a full-blown laptop.

I liked the point you mentioned about speakers and positions. But I don't understand why some people have problem with home and end buttons next to arrow keys. In my opinion, it's the most right position for them.

Not Dave, but I would recommend looking at HP if you're concerned with price. Look for an Omen around a sale time, you usually can still compound coupons as well. I recently got a 15" with a kaby lake i7, 256 gb ssd, and GTX 1050 Ti for just over 900 after tax ($350 discount).

Microsoft SurfaceBook got 2-in-1 almost right. By reversing the detached screen, no issue of touching keys and touchpads and you can choose to use only the screen too. If they can use the Yoga 910s hinge in the next version, it would become even more appealing!

Dave2D makes the greatest laptop review IMO. Ppl have been saying that 2-1 is great and everyone sounds the same, but you did describe the usage with this laptop and personal opinion, and yes in need opinions rather than features on paper. Great video keep it up!!

@PTYC933 7 лет назад
There are advantages to 2 in 1 like having the screen go completely flat on the table for quick discussion or the presentation mode on the plane. However due to the bezel lesser on the top makes for awkward nose time in laptop mode, and huge bezels in tent mode. Would rather get a 2016 XPS 13.
@ethann_browne
@ethann_browne 7 лет назад
I have to agree with you, Dave. I'd definitly go for the XPS 13, non 2-in-1, trading off a hinge for other things, which aren't making sacrifices.

I have the laptop and I love it. I guess it's a matter of whether you can get used to holding the laptop in tablet mode without minding the keys or the weight, which I'm already used to. It depends on what I'm doing of course but I'm able to enjoy everything the laptop has to offer. I will agree with the speaker issues though, but I bypass them with earbuds. Great review though, keep it up! Oh and a quick tip, when opening up the laptop grab both sides with your fingers at the same time and lift up. No idea why dell didn't give this thing a lip but I found that to be the easiest the way to open the device.

For people who really use excel (like those who crush it without a mouse) having the page up and down by the arrows is the best thing since sliced bread. It helps so much with the various navigation hot keys. Although I do understand that the average computer user would see this key configuration as a roadblock.

Picked up one of these same day I got the 2017 MBP 13". The Dell kept stalling during the initial update at around 47%. Had to take it back to Best Buy for an exchange and the second Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 finally worked. I like both, but I work with the MBP more after two months of ownership. The packaging was nice though.

I agree with your general thinking but it seems to me you missed a key point, pen support. I could be wrong, but this thing is 2k pressure sensitivity WACOM pen, for artist, student taking notes, etc, that is a key selling point. A key omission in an otherwise good review.

ThinkPad x1 yoga doesn't have the keyboard issue in tablet mode but it's heavier. I think the tablet mode for most 2in1 laptops is for drawing and note taking and you don't usually hold the laptop in hands for those applications. Therefore I won''t buy any 2in1 without good pen support.

The gaming capability interests me. I have the 7y75 model but I didn't expect it to handle any game even with eGPU. One more thing, this model still has coin whine issue and I've contacted Dell. An engineer is coming with a replacement newly designed motherboard although I've been waitting for him for half a month. The "new design" is just putting some silicon pads over those annoying inductors to insulate noise tho.

I don't see the problem with this 2 in 1. It was designed for someone with portability in mind. They created a new option so that they can appease those who like two in ones but still like the xps 13 in mind. Anyone looking for gaming, higher specs and more ports would just buy the regular xps 13.

Hello Dave. I am currently in a dilemma between (1) an ASUS ROG GL502VS, and Alienware 15 R3 and (3) an MSI counterpart (GE72? [I'm not sure]). In terms of performance and heat, which tops the other two? Thanks and more power to your channel :-)

My favorite part about this laptop is the location of the page up and page down buttons haha.

Hey Dave, great video, great review, as usual. What's that keyboard that we see in the background?
