I have a cousin who is a nun, and every time, she visits her family she brings them stuff from the convention. They can call and email also.

For those here saying it's culty, there are different disciples among different orders. Not all are the same just because they are nuns. Some can see their original family more than others but in EVERY case, the woman who is discerning this life will visit the order and choose to go there or not for herself. She is aware of what she is getting into before she chooses to commit to it.

I can't understand monastic life totally. I can see it has a place for some people, but I couldn't sustain all the requirements.

It’s also important to remember that not all orders have a contemplative focus. Orders like The Sisters of Life or The Daughters of Mary Help of Christians are out in schools, charities, and more all day. They are very busy and have jobs and even are sometimes sent to college to get a degree by their order like my SIL was. Not everyone who is called to religious life is called to strictly contemplative life.

Does anyone know one order of nuns who can't see their families for spme period of time? I've never of this. I eas educated by nuns amd my mother was educated as a nurse by nuns. They all had contact with their families.

How can a sane person look at this, hear what they are saying and be like " yeah Ok that makes sense" ? The correct translation to what they are saying is they left their families to join a cult and it isn't the only cult people have left their families for.

But, you don’t give money, deeds to property, or anything else like that to once convent, AND you can leave at any time. And as far as I am aware (if someone can show me something saying otherwise) it’s not that they’re NOT ALLOWED to see family, but it has more to do with a lot of families not accepting a woman becoming a sister, and has caused issues, so it is discouraged unless there is a good relation. Again, if I am mistaken, if anyone has a source dictating it is forbidden, please let me know.

Personally think it's disgusting that they can't see their families more...priests can see their families as often as they want...sickening...but their choice

Theres no set rule across all nuns on how often they see their families; it depends on the community. But given that not every city has a convent of nuns in it, women who become nuns often have to go to a different geographic location to join the convent, which can make it more difficult to see their families.

I’ve never known a nun who isn’t allowed to see her family. One I know lived In NC teaching school but she used her vacation every year to travel home to PA to visit family. She eventually moved back to PA. I was surprised about this video.
