I work at a ford dealership I wouldn't buy any ecoboost engine these days or even the transit 2.0eco blue engines they all gone so down hill The 1.25 and the black top zetec engines are the best never any issues with them

It seems that while engines have got ever more complex they can't get the basics right - eg. dodgy drivebelts and water pumps. (or timing chains on BMW/MINI engines etc). The last ICE cars on the roads are going to be ones from the late 90s/early 00s that seems to have been the sweet spot for reliability/performance/simplicity.

Same with late 90s/early 2000s VAG engines like the 1.9tdi and the 1.8t, engine technology peaked right there for me.

What a crazy design by ford, remove the driveshaft holder to insert the locking pin, remove the alternator to remove the timing cover, or that tool to align the crank pulley or it wouldnt start Volkswagen is so much easier, takes just a few hours and you dont have to remove unnecessary parts of the car

Good grief - on my car's chain cam engine, I believe all you have to do to change the water pump is slacken the alternator belt and unbolt the water pump - end of. And all accessible from the top, with the car standing on the road. Your videos encourage me to keep that car going and avoid these modern horrors.

My cars engine is a 1.4 hdi (Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda...). Easy to work on. Will avoid Ford and check other modern cars engines before buying.

Same with most chain driven engines, took me about half an hour on my swift sport. Piece of piss. Also on my skoda citigo, the waterpump/thermostat unit is on the gearbox side driven by a little belt off the exhaust cam, also a piece of cake. Why can't they all be like this.

That timing kit you use is the exact same one I bought for my mondeo 2013 2.0 tdci where the water pump was different according to my mechanic so needed to make small adjustments on the outer case..

Why do you have to lock the flywheel as well as the crank?
@offbeatwarble

Crank pin is to set TDC it doesn't lock it as such just sets it's position, the flywheel locking tool holds the crank in place.
