"Putin wants the Soviet Union back again with him as the tsar...he's never going to be in a position to do that. He's becoming weaker and weaker and more dependent on China."
It could be too late for China to ever reunify with Taiwan and Xi's Jinping's global ambitions could break China's alliance with Russia and other "CRINKs" nations, Military Intelligence expert Philip Ingram and The Times's Michael Binyon talk to James Heappey about how the US and the West will handle these crises in Superpowers: The Future of Global Security

Russia/USSR was never a super power. Super powers don't go into economic failscade. They pretended they were a super power and when they tried to compete with the only actual super power they tripped on their own feet and face planted. Chernobyl is a perfect example, they pretended to understand the science and manufacturing requirements. When it blew up? They lied. Then they kept on lying. Why? Let's for a sec "follow the money"! When in the last 300 or 700 years russia been an Ace? Ok so let's just look at the last 20 years? Or 50 years? Or closely at the last 3 years! How is russia important? At the same time, let's loot at India and China. Oh sure they aren't at the level in all macro-economic terms. Not yet. But soon. So I ask the question: How in the world would both back a sick horse? When both VERY WELL understand that their future growth is not based on a "stong ru", but rather on a WEAK ru? Begging for alliances?

Xi's killing China's future by becoming the next Mao. If they ditch him soon they could continue their growth, but he's running foreign investment out like crazy (the only reason they're a wealthy economy) India is 100% a rising star. The west should be moving smaller manufacturing that makes no sense to re-patriate out of China & into India. They're much more compatible with us & would make a great Asian partner.

For clarity, the US emphatically does not "recognize" the sovereignty of China over Taiwan. Instead, the US "acknowledges" that China believes itself to have sovereignty over Taiwan. In practice, the US position is based on the objective reality that exists independent of the fantasies of the dictatorship in China, namely that Taiwan is in fact a self-governing democratic state. That's the actual status quo, whatever imperialist fantasies are nurtured by the totalitarian government in Beijing. On a separate point, it would be good if pundits learned to pronouce "Xi" correctly, even if he is a murderous colonialist dictator. It’s not 'Zhee"....

China's economy fits as a superpower? Is he having a laugh? The Chinese economy is quickly going down the toilet as they focused their gdp on the real estate industry which have all pretty much gone bankrupt. Unemployment between 18 and 35 year olds is around 50% this year with college graduates fighting for a job often at a ratio of 1 job per 1500 applications. The agricultural sector is in complete distress, shops and restaurants are closing by the hundreds every day everywhere. Local government have gone bankrupt leading to teachers, local tv staff, refuse collectors and so many more civil servants not getting paid anything for over 2 months now. The central and local governments are broke and cannot afford to pay wages. These are only a tiny sample of what is actually going on with their awful economy which today has lead to increasing civil unrest and riots.

The only way to contain and redress US hegemony is to have effective deterrent forces against it. That includes an ability to strike at the US homeland, which is why China needs to develop its aircraft carriers and submarines. In the past the USA has used its military might to cause trouble all over the world, while feeling relatively assured that its homeland was generally secured. That situation is changing. A large part of the US military might will now have to be relocated back to the US mainland.
