I worked so hard at my first job when I graduated college. I gave it 100%. My boss noticed and praised me and gave me more and more responsibility. I thought, man this is working, I'm gonna be promoted. After 2 years of giving 100%, I got a $50 Starbucks card as appreciation for saving the company I worked for thousands of dollars. I never got the promotion, just more responsibility. I promised to never work hard again after that.

John Connor Just because that one company didn't compensate your hard work with promotion does not mean that another company would act the same. Maybe some other company would have given you that promotion for your hard work. Just like saying, one lady may have behaved rudely with you but that doesn't mean that another lady would.

yuup.. And If you notice, the majority who call them Lazy and pampered are Boomers. I'm an Xer and I'm more attuned to Milenials' mindset, because it was starting to go downhill during my time. And not just poor pay, it's the lack of dignity. Workers are made to feel like they're a liability, not an asset, and as if they conned their way into that job cause so many candidates...... The problem is hard work creates positive rewards, which the government steals, and redistributes to people who don't work hard, and then mock you for your hard work. So let the system rot, and return to a system designed to better peoples life's, instead of one that makes us slaves.

This is a problem in the US. Employers did _everything_ they could to make getting a raise, promotion, or changing jobs as hard as they could, deliberately in my opinion. They slashed HR departments, increased the amount of contract work, etc. Looking for a job is still way too time consuming and expensive. Employers are starting to pay, finally. This is what lead to quiet quitting.

It's a mix of many things really. Year after year things of course keep repeating, but various added factors may make people forget or get distracted with other problems that stack up alongside their issues at work. Disaster, war, economy, society, family, media, technology, politics, education, real estate, business, crimes, even entertainment... You might not think any of these are related with each other and to the common people, but they do. One thing goes wrong, the other will also go wrong, like domino effect. And of course, the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. They're killing us slowly just like the frog in the boiling water.

As a young person myself, it's so frustrating that no matter how hard we try, even if we graduate from a top university or enter a high-paying job, it's always not enough. It is more crazy because as some people have excel in life, it gets harder and harder for the majority to improve their living condition, which further worsens the situation. We must recognize the system is corrupt and needs to be changed, but the government is just kowtowing to the demands of the capitalists. Fvck this!

Most degrees became worthless when there's too many supplies but no demand. Working hard will not help you because there are always others as hard working or even harder working than you. So you need to develop better things than high academic grades, something that can add value or develop a skill that adds value to the world. Education for licensed careers such as Medical, Lawyer, Dentistry, or Engineering are still useful in getting an education for. But don't expect high paying wages even for those respected careers because there's simply too many competition in this era. Our degrees now are 1/3 in terms of being useful compared to having a degree 30+ years ago. The current system benefits people from the older generation where there's scarce competition. Which is why people who made it big in the previous era also have children who were given a boost to go on and create big businesses in this era such Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, Elon Musk, and others who all had rich parents.

Maybe employers should pay workers for their extra effort. Stop expecting workers to always go above and beyond for no extra pay. Workers only have to do what is listed as their duties when they took the job. They don’t have to go above and beyond if they don’t want to. Pay workers better. Pay them extra for extra effort, give pay raises to those who keep going above and beyond. Offer promotions to those workers as well. Stop bitching when a worker only does what they are required to based on their listed duties when hired. People get sick of doing extra work for no extra pay or change of promotions.

The same overexploitation happens even in India, where these bosses make their employees work for extra hours, while they just relax and stand in for taking credit. Back then eating out was rare and no one bought clothes regularly. Often you see siblings dressed in clothes made out of the same material. Kids walked to school. Shoes were worn and washed and worn again, handed down to the younger children when the older ones outgrew them. Most people don’t spend on anything except on essentials. Research means a walk to the local library. Only film stars had painted fingers and toes. Only the very rich afford watches and cars. Tv programs started at 3pm and ended at midnight. A few decades later we had more but we had 6 day work weeks. I remember how happy I was when they finally decreed companies let us have alternate Saturdays off and much much later a blessed 5 day work week. My point is a lot of young people today looking back think the old ones had it easy, every generation has their unique set of challenges and life difficulties.

For all my hard work, I got $50 and all my hours removed after they were able to hire replacements after they no longer had to pay people more for working through COVID. 1:14 Wrong. Ambition and Working for a living are separate matters. Tang Ping has nothing to do with not being able to move up ladder. Most just want to live a normal life, with a family and a roof, not having to worry about being evicted or going hungry. It is increasingly getting hard to achieve that in China, especially among the youth. Why would one want to move to a city, work non-stop just to pay the high cost that comes with it? One is better off living a simple low activity life, while still getting the same net worth as the former. The movement will keep developing as long as housing and medical remains unaffordable to the average citizen in China.

Was I able to help when help was needed. The world has been on the brink of disaster since day one. The economy will prevail and rich folks will complain bitterly about how little they have. I think the main reason this movement can be opposed by officials is in it's naming. "let it rot" suggests to give up, to degrade one's self-worth, rather than finding peace & quiet outside of the hopeless struggles that are encouraged by society. If they said they were seeking work-leisure balance, then they will have the moral highground and any opposition from the officials will automatically clown themselves.

Well, this is what happenes when corporate greed (or socialist wanna be utopias like China) takes over society, and pushes people too hard. Eventually people realize their hard work, the added value they provide and build, just gets pushed up the ladder to the 1%. We are literally left with nothing but crumbs. I mean working hard is all fine and well, but if you haven's got anything to show for at the end of the day, except headaches and worries, then it necessarily becomes depressing and worthless. And you start to feel worthless, wich eventually leads to just giving up. Just look at USA (or the rest of the Western wolrd for that matter) in the 50's and 60's. If you had a middle class education and job, you could likely afford a house, new car, vacations, and you had some free time for the family etc. And where are we now? These "Movements" are nothing but a natural "immune" response to the depravity of the corporate elite.

It's not about suffering, it's about having no good reason or purpose for it. This is the tale of late millennials and Gen Zs. Speaking as an early member of Gen Z, our generation grew up in a sea of information and a rapidly evolving ecosystem of technology. Most of us are "natives" of many technologies. Many people from this generation saw easier ways to get things done using technology. Being drowned in a sea of information, we also grew up to be skeptical of authority after consuming countless episodes of news and entertainment which portrayed how individuals and organizations with power and authority operate. Many of us have to work in a time where there are housing crises and recessions, and wages aren't keeping up with those. Many industries in the corporate world are sticking to traditional norms of work and work benefits. Given these conditions, it's not surprising to observe many young professionals doing the bare minimum required in work and working on side hustles to make ends meet. After all, a job is just a contract, a business deal, and, at some times, the pay and benefits certainly don't even amount enough to cover the essentials (rent, food, insurance, utility bills etc). Governments and political parties are doing so little to fix broken policies which have created these dire conditions. In a context like this, why should a person choose to suffer so much for so little? I'm not blaming any generation as a whole for this, corrupt politics and failed policies have always been the work of the elites who don't know any better. We all need to change this.

It's crazy.. how many people would survive if we were back at square one? Where would we be if money wasn't what was necessary for survival? I ask myself if that'd be better but of course I don't have the answers sway.

I worked extremely hard and pur 110% into a career that was supposed to be worth it since you can move up to differenr positions and pay, but after 5yrs of hard work and effort nothing I was only a few dollars higher vs when I started, at that rate of slow increase, I'd be an old man by the time I'm actually making the money in worth as an employee.

Being working so hard for the best ending up with being unappreciated and those credits goes to the unworthy staff who use cables, 10 tons hydraulic jack and bigger fan to the boss inside government service. After longest exhausted and failure in relationship because of this, why did I even want to try and let the one who took all the credits do the work. Well, it's not bad after all seeing them start to suffered from their own credits that they took from us. Let it rot.

Ive watched boomers do this.... I asked the older crowd I worked with why and they said everything people are saying in the comments "why work hard when nobody appreciates your work." I took notes... Now I own my own business. I work my mundane job in the day and run my business in the evening. One day I won't have to work for anyone and I can just work hard for myself where I can be appreciated. Because I value me!

Got to a low easy pay percent job position and stayed there until recruitment, which is actually difficult for most people to even achieve. In many places, just living with dignity is already very tiring. At the same time, you also have to deal with countless loans, perhaps housing, car loans, or medical, student loans or various countless taxes,or high prices and living costs

And this is why I've always built my own businesses alongside any job I ever had. All my surplus capital went into building infrastructure and investment vehicles. A job will never give you freedom by its very nature. Don't quiet quit, quiet build. Instead of being lazy, work in ways that benefit you!! Don't sit at work doing nothing, sit there learning something or building something! Laziness is a one way ticket to a mediocre existence as is working hard for someone else.
