@J Johnson even if we exclude wartime stealing, the only reason it took longer in the past was due to how slow communication used to be. We enjoy an unprecedented speed of information due to the rise of the internet. Back then it took months of traveling along an uncertain trade route, not to mention the years and decades it took for a new thing to spread and be adapted. If medieval Europeans had access to high speed optic fibre communications, I doubt they would have given a shit whether a certain alchemic formula was "patented" in China or not.

Most of those factory workers to do not come from Shenzhen. They come from rural parts of China, villages mostly. you dont expect degree holders to work in factories right lol.

What innovation is required for manufacturing? You give a manufacturer your required specifications, if they can't meet them, they have not met the requirements of any standard contract (I'm sure). Sure a manufacturer could be innovative, and suggest ways to save cost or improve quality, but a customer may not care for either.

Why would China increase military spending if the economy falters? No matter how high they increase it they can't rival the US so why implode themselves by doing so? They just want to catch up enough to control their backyard. That is something that can be put on the backburner as the US overspends - China does too but is trying to control that.

Alex1986Sevilla Power outages in India are also not common these days . Surely , there are some isolated parts of the country and rural areas but power outages are rare . In cities , it doesn't happen now . Even in my village , power doesn't go off . Even if it does , it's for like only 30 minutes in a day . So we brought an inverter battery and charge it up . It is super cheap and lasts for 2 days at max .

India was late to the party and China was there first. China opened its doors around 1978 whereas India in the year 1991. That makes part of the difference why China has an upper hand in manufacturing. Things move slowly in India because you have to appease a lot of people, not the case in China simply due to the fact in China government has absolute control. We Indians should look more in alleviating poverty and educating the next generation of Indians rather than considering ourselves competing with China.

China also has labor laws...after all, China was a pure communism nation which worker union is one of the fundamental political organization

If you look at what China looked like in 1925 and then again 1972, the economic policy changes were pretty obvious.

They played politics really well. Since even as far back as the sixties, the US Gov gave the Chinese both the plans and the machinery to the M14 rifles. Back when they were Commies and we were supposedly at war. Then bring on the 90s, and you have that happening to whole factories in the US across sectors. If not for the corruption in the US, China never would of been able to suck so much wealth out of the US and expand anywhere near as fast as it did. MAGA the tariffs are helping.

You obviously do not understand how Tariffs and Manufacturing protection laws work. Many countries have them on the books, and if Not for NAFTA and later President's actions, any country that moved a factory out of the US, would be either facing such a large Tariff it was unprofitable, if they were not simply banned from doing business in the US altogether, as there are nations on this planet that would use that as a penalty. The CIA funneled weapons, money, and training through more than just China, those operations in Afghanistan, which later bit us in the ass, would of succeeded with or without them. Those wars were indeed wasted blood and treasure, and went against the will of the people. But those expenditures were minimal compared to the amount of wealth willingly transferred from the US Economy over the past three decades, to most notably China. If China were truly forced to play on a level playing field, and pay proper penalties for breaking international trade agreements, they would not have amassed the wealth they did, in such a short time. I am not saying the Chinese are incapable, they have been a powerful nation many times in the past, and can be again, but sucking the lifeblood out of the US, accelerated the process beyond what they could have done organically.

People really don't need to waste money on all the cheap crap coming from China anyway. Hell perhaps the quality of many items would be higher and it would be cost effective to repair things. China tying up Russian troops being a leading role in Afghanistan is dicey at best. Its like saying Alaska being within striking distance of Russia put them or us on edge which was baseless. The Russians had nukes, which meant any Communist Chinese horde marching north would of been nuked once they got within a certain amount of kilometers into Soviet soil. So no China didn't really merit tying up that many Soviet resources. There were military commanders and politicians, who mysteriously died, at the end of WW2 saying we fought the wrong people. We probably did, but on the flip side, the US spent far, far more money developing nukes, than we ever spent maintaining an armed force. Much of that expenditure would of been spent regardless, with only a portion being for the wars. Technically part of my life was before all the outsourcing, and I could watch as my Nation started dying as all of that wealth, factories, jobs, were sucked out of this Nation due to trade deals made by corrupt politicians to benefit the Chinese. It is the responsibility of the Chinese government to improve the lives of their people, but raiding the US to do it, is not something I condone of my government doing. It taking the election of Donald Trump to see a change to this took far too long. If you go back far enough in US history my people were just as thoroughly taken advantage of, allowing companies to do that to other nations people, and still have access to our markets merely allowed it to continue, after we had eradicated it here, which is something you should not want.

Afghanistan has never, ever been worth anything for the ground it is. It has always been a backwater, where nations playing the great game, lose lives and treasure. If the USSR really cared about it, they would of properly sent troops, much like when the USA went into Afghanistan, our leaders cared more about invading elsewhere, then properly invading the one country the nations people agreed to go to war for. I highly doubt the threat of Chinese troops, made that large an impact on the USSR's troop deployments in China. Communist China was already firmly established as a slaughterer of millions of their own civilians by the time the traitors in the US gave them the M14 Rifle plans and production tools, in the 1960s, during the Vietnam War era. General Patton is indeed the most obvious and famous example. And technically it occurred just after victory in Europe and the cessation of hostilities there. My nation is indeed in decline. The loss of factories has turned many once thriving towns and cities into rotting ghost towns. Families ripped apart just to find work, and an increase in crime, forced acceptance of nonconforming immigrants, and a decline in much of what allowed the nation to prosper. This having been a result of utterly stupid, if not seditious trade policies. Among other things. There is a difference between mutually beneficial trade, and your idea of sharing prosperity. A good economic relationship benefits both sides, not one side unilaterally, which had been the relationship between China and the US since Bill Clinton was President. You seem to be under the impression that factories, and economies are finite, that there is a pie only so big and you must take your share. A truly healthy economic system grows, but then again, the founding principles of Communism would not allow for such a thing. Hence why China today had to veer so far from Mao. Instead of stealing American factories, you could have built your own, and sold your products, like any other entrepreneur, My people should not of been forced to subsidize you, your own government should have. I will not dispute the US spends too much on military spending, I would prefer we were not the world's policeman. Let other nations foot the bill for keeping themselves safe, and sea lanes free of pirates. Something China has benefited from greatly. Our past poltiicans have left us with responsibilities I would love my nation to pull out of. Fixing the damage caused by our trading relationship with China and others, but most notably China, is one of the major factors of fixing our house. Stopping the flow of illegals, and deporting many of the unneeded and illegal wards of the state is another. Hell, a large portion of the Visa over-stayers we need to deport come from China, among others of course.

Same here. I bought a multi-port USB charger from them back in 2013 and it only now recently started having problems. Had other chargers that would only last a year or two before dying. Have a portable chargers and another multi-port USB chargers and those things have been solid. Many people think Chinese electronics and they think cheap and low quality. There is nothing cheap or low quality about Anker.

Unemployment has been recovering since the financial crisis not because of a president or another. The thing a president can do is reduce economic uncertainty based on potential radical change. Obama wasn't crazy and Trump isn't crazy. Trumps tax cuts worked and his trade "dealings" do essentially nothing. As long as warren or sanders don't look more likely markets will do as well as they can. Again presidents don't run markets but markets use information. If information comes out that some public office holder can effect markets then markets react. Market sentiment surrounding Trump has generally been high.

Its economy reached 70-80% of the US with a much smaller workforce. So yes, Japan failed to surpass the US in total economy but it developed pretty darn fine. What does it take for China to surpass the US given its huge population size? Each Chinese person has to only be 0.25x as productive. If Chinese people even become 0.7x as productive (more than reasonable to assume they will given economic convergence of developing countries), China will be well more than 3x as powerful economically as the US. If China reaches 90s Japan levels of prosperity and achieve productivity per person of 2x as much as Americans, China’s total economy will be more than 8x as large as the US. Still think the China story is the same as the Japan story?
