This interview was so informative. Didn't realize Trope's connection to Winthrop car service. My kids and I always used their services in Brooklyn. We had special drivers we would ask for. A few years ago, prior to Rideshare's popularity, my daughter called Winthrop for me. It was amazing that the owner, through hard work and vision, was able to accomplish so much, passing that legacy onto his 3 sons. I salute you, Mr. Wellington. I am a Jamaican, retired, and have been thinking of relocating back home. Very difficult. I was home a few weeks ago and, of course, had to visit Negril. I find the space calm and soothing, and the vibe of the people, visitors, and residents chill, for lack of a better word. I grew up in MoBay... It's too chaotic for me now. Need peace and quiet

I stayed at this hotel the week after Easter Sunday 2023 I came in Easter Sunday and spend the whole week with my family. I have a great appreciation for this business I was glad and very honored to support this business. Travelers is a wonderful hotel and the father of the owner is a great inspiration to all people not just black people but to all people in the world. I will be back with my family next April for my son spring break. I am a Black Father-of-one and I am a hard worker I punched the clock from 4 a.m. and don't punch out until 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. My Dream is to save my money and perhaps do the same thing that mister Wellington did. Create a business legacy and pass the business on to my son.

Refreshing to see this interview. Learnt so much. Jamaica is a mix bag of people. Unfortunately few are upward mobile and in recent years most are covetous, grudgefull and greedy. Many have no ideas or plans but envy foreigners who are willing to invest in our country. While we have other illiterate sending guns to destroy our country in contrast with Mr. Winthrop who grew up poor and by sacrifice he made good for himself and create generational wealth in a honest way. He and his sons are unselfish which we lack in Jamaica by giving back with their MEET program. These young people need this example to see that hardwork,, perseverance and ability to execute legal plans pays off. We need to learn that good fathers are important for a child development. This man raised 3 great human beings. I hope this will turn on a light bulb in most of these new age kid to show that EDUCATION is the key to power not guns. All those idiots posing with illegal guns and money need to see that knowledge is power

This was an awesome interview. For those who harbored this notion that Jamacian men are NOT good fathers, I hope this interview has helped to dispel that notion. For the men who have been irresponsible, use this as an example of what you should aim for. Work hard and be smart about spending whatever little you have. Jamaica has always been a nice place to live. A lot of foreigners did live, work and owned businesses there. A lot of American and English teachers worked in Jamaica at one point. The Americans were making more money working there because the Jacan $ was worth more than the US$. The change came about because of the Manley government, which the US hated. Since then, the US has been punishing Ja. Lots of negative stories have been fed to the American community . With folks like Throp and you Irena, who are on the grounds showing the true Jamaica, I am hopeful that Jamaica will return to and surpass the glory days. Jamaica just needs more investors to stimulate its economy so that more of its people can find good jobs. Once jobs are available for those who need them, no one would have or want to leave. Jamaica is the best place on planet earth.

I have a boyfriend who is a mason and is building us a small house. I also have two grandchildren 11 and 13 that I adopted and would need to go to school there when I move. Irina, again another in depth interview with Thorp and his journey and family. I learnt a few thing today, I didn't know his background include the Fiji. I am glad he return home and help his Dad, he and his brothers. His Dad sound like a remarkable person, who has eye for not only seeing a need in Jamaica but also trying to make a difference. Thank you Mr Thorp ( Senior ) and his sons for their daily work, into my home land. Irina you are so gifted, when i used to watch OPRAH ( a black woman that made millions interviewing people in the states, ) I notice the interviews is really about having the courage to asking the hard questions. Family & I watched both your interviews of each other, and props 🙌🏾💯🏆to both of you! Almost through this brilliant interview now, & really enjoying and being inspired by Throp & family, as well as Irina & Hubby. Irina, your skills in research and interviewing are absolutely top-ranking! 💯🏆 In short, big thanks to both sides for such a candid, sometimes funny, yet in-depth set of perspectives on business and personal aspects of experiences in this context of relocation to, and running a business/es in JA. Such an impressive story -- getting to hear about, and see pics of Throp's family, and appreciating the tenacity and discipline and joy that went into their journey and current iteration of the business and all. As Diasporans (decades in US), it's greatly inspiring to us & children. True appreciation for the educational insights, great videography, sound, etc. My children are considering starting a vlog as well, so we watched keenly and gained much. Throp's insights about running/fitness and how it supports the mind too -- pure gold! 🪙 Nuff Love! 💚-- 🇯🇲

Another great interview ! Irie , you interviewed one of my favorite person , he’s a very good friend of mind lol 😂 IN MY HEAD ! I just love his personality and demeanor , he’s such an articulate guy he doesn’t stutter , he just know what he’s talking about , it seems like it comes naturally because that is how he lives his life ! Jamaicans are not upset about the foreign investors , they are upset because they can not compete because the playing field is not even and they are at a disadvantage, through no fault of their own because the government are subsidizing those foreign investors through tax abatements ! I personally don’t think the government is creating enough opportunities for the have nots to build on ! In every country in the world governments are who create opportunities for their people to build on ! Let’s used America as an example the American government in the 40s all the way up into the 80s created the middle class system , through government funded programs especially in infrastructures by subsidizing developers, to create affordable housing to have more home owners , even though there were racist laws that the United States federal government , had in places that blacks could not be apart of that boom and if developers sold to black people , they would lose their subsidies ! Jamaican black people are aware of what happen in the United States so when they see all the foreign investors , it’s a flash back of the same ideology coming to Jamaica , how ever that same American concept was a very good one except for the discrimination part of it because that was how the middle class came about in America! The Jamaican government will have to adopt that concept to help narrow the gab from getting so wide between the have and the have nots and I honestly think that would also bring down the crime rate ! Jamaicans are not looking for a hand out , they looking for a hand up ! There is a boom going on in Jamaica but the question is for whom and if the playing field is not even , then of course you will have resentment! The foreign investors are welcome but the government need to even the playing field some what ! There will always be a wide gab between the have and the have nots , that is just how the world is but it is just too wide in Jamaica and every day it just seems to be getting wider ! People like to say pull your self up by you boot strap but if you had no boot to beginning with how do you pull yourself up ! Hmm 🤔

Also my parents retired back to Jamaica for 28 years now. Both left as children & raised in🗽🇯🇲US & 🇯🇲🇬🇧Britain. So return as older adults has been a culture shock & successful decision at the same time. So the love for 🇯🇲 culture my dad has always had, inspires his artwork.

Excellent and interesting interview, As a regular guest at Travellers since the 80s and a runner in the Reggae race, the topics were very relevant to me. Both interview videos were good

Mr Throp, I watched your RU-vid interviews of people moving back to Jamaica and really got a lot of answers from you and the guest. Great show by the way…I like how you keep it real.. well am sure there are a few situation like mine. I was born in Jamaica and grew up in mammee bay near Dunn’s river falls and went to primary school in st Ann’s bay. My family left in 1974 when I was 11 and went to live in Miami. So now im 60 and about to retire in 2 yrs and have been looking for land in runaway Bay Area to build a little house. I’ve heard of the crime but this one RU-vidr name country white Jamaican had a content “why I left Jamaica and keeping it real. Basically she lived a nice life up in the hills of st Ann’s bay and 4 guys went to their house with guns to rob them and her husband fired his shotgun and they fled. Somehow they got locked up for 2 years for something else. 2 years later they’ came back again. It gets scary. Now I’m almost sure I’m not red returning to buy n build a house. These things discourage people and hurt the economy.

I'm only about 30 minutes into the video and I have subbed. OMG!!! Divine placement...it will be a divine connection when we link. Negril wasn't exactly on the radar, however, Jamaica is. Thank you! Looking forward to meeting you!

Wow! This interview was like a movie to me. I had to run an errand but ran right back home so I could finish it. Irie--so tough but fair with Winthrope. I loved that Winthrope did not shy away from your questions. He faced them head on and responded kindly. It was entertaining hearing Winthrop's history--Mom, Dad, brothers, Travelers, Podcast, RU-vid channel and growing up in NY. Whew, so glad to hear that Winthrope didn't settle with Tara. I so love Tara. Beautiful woman. She is my favorite on that toxic but entertaining show--which I just discovered. But it's so not Winthrope's speed. I am glad to hear him say it. Winthrope will find a nice woman in Kingston. Thank you both very much. This interview made my day.
