Why Cinderella Worked, Where Beauty and the Beast Failed ✨

With the increase of Live-Action Disney movies, I thought about two movies that helped launch this trend. Cinderella (2015) and Beauty and the Beast (2017) were both financially successful, but I've always felt that Beauty and the Beast was a bit underwhelming, where Cinderella was a much better adaption. I look into why I think this happened.

Part of the reason I think "Cinderella" worked so well was because the gap between films was over 60 years, and there was substantial things to add (the animated film focused more on the mice, and the remake helped to flesh out the prince and Lady Tremaine). That said, BATB 2017 could've worked if: 1. They knew immediately that it was gonna be a musical (how could they think otherwise?) This would be reflected in a better-suited cast for singing as well as acting. 2. They countered the SS claims, ie Beast letting Belle go several times before permanently dismissing her and making him not as aggressive (the fairy tale I read growing up had him depicted as amiable). 3. They threw in extra things that didn't feel like fluff. While I appreciate backstories for the characters, Belle's mother's death didn't largely impact the story and Adam's treatment by his parents wouldn't be a factor for me given reason #2. Give us PRESENT-DAY things that affect them, not past things that aren't utilized much.

I agree with everything you said, but, reason number two. It makes no absolute sense for the Beast to let Belle go several times and make the story look stupid on why Belle stays each time when she could have gone. In my opinion, the original Disney movie handled it a lot better with Belle seeing the goodness in him despite his temper and then turning him around. It really could happen. I admit, not so fast like in a movie, but, getting therapy can help too. Lol

@@andreasmeelie1889 The only reason I had #2 is simply to combat any claims of Stockholm Syndrome; letting Belle visit Maurice here and there would alleviate that (as well as making Gaston suspicious), and make him letting her go permanently heartbreaking.

_Cinderella_ (2015) is a Visual Masterpiece. Visually everything was executed exceptionally well. Aside from that the movie worked because it was written to be meaningful and memorable. They want you to care about what's happening onscreen.

I think the big problem with “Beauty & The Beast” is that it’s a kidnapped to lovers story. When’s we’re kids it’s animated & cute & we don’t understand what’s really going on. The live action came out we’re much older & understand that that Belle fell “in love” with her capture that’s not cute. It becomes a problem that really has always been there. Then yeah the dress & her singing. They needed a better dress & someone who could actually sing & act

I totally disagree with what you said about Stockholm Syndrome with how Belle feels with the Beast. Keep in mind that Belle only falls in love with the Beast once he becomes kind to her. There was even one scene where she ran away from the Beast's abusive behavior and got rescued by the Beast when she got viciously attacked by wolves. The only reason why she actually decides to go back is because she can now see the goodness in him and also doesn't want him to freeze to death. Lol So yeah Belle falls in love with the Beast for who he is not because of actual Stockholm Syndrome.

I rewatched the live action Beauty and the Beast a few days ago. I love the movie but I feel Emma Watson as Belle is a miscast. They should've gotten someone else to play Belle.

Yes! Definitely! Emma just portrayed Belle as another Hermione. When in truth, apart from being smart and considered different from their peers, Belle and (Movie) Hermione are nothing alike. Belle is polite, patient, and romantic with a humorous streak, whereas Hermione is rude, impulsive, bossy, and serious.

They cast her because originally it was in question whether or not the film would be a musical. When they decided it would be, they ptobably knew Emma would still bring in the numbers anyway.

Yeah right if it failed that would explain how it made over a billion at the box office and why people watched it multiple times!!! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST was amazing CINDERELLA was just boring! But oh well haters gonna hate!

_Cinderella_ (2015) is not boring. It's beautiful and meaningful, two adjectives I cannot say about any other live-action Cinderella film.
