As Indonesian, i never thought that cloves are expensive, here rp 2000 maybe 20 cent are enough for a week

That's what the distributor does. Imagine the time that will need to be spent by one person to coordinate, negotiate, arrange for transport from the growers. That time needs to be paid.

Since this isn't necessarily high skilled labor, one of the society workers could be tasked with this. The more the number of individuals, the less likely it is that his/her salary would be reflected substantially in total costs

Cheaper for consumers maybe, to a point,but there’s many reasons multiple distribution levels exist. As the business, Instead of shipping to a couple dozen places for the product to be further distributed, you would be shipping to many many more. Direct can’t work because you’re shipping to way more places with smaller orders, so are you sending one whole container or truckload of the product at a time? You’d have to only sell to consumers who fill up the whole shipment, and if not, losing money. The more distributing you cut the more work gets made for the ones that are left, the less viable the shipments make as they are smaller and go to more places. Shipping costs become a much bigger percent of the pie. Not to mention cloves are seasonal right so for this example they’d have to keep a distributing business not running efficiently and then go months with it shut down? What happens to employees, vehicles, real estate, costs can’t just stop for those. Then again what you are saying to a point already exists elsewhere, stores like Costco and Walmart have such low prices because they have streamlined the distribution. But that’s different.

@@kreterakete to prevent this you can do one of three things (: 1) strain your sauce just prior to serving. this isnt ideal tho as it kinda takes away from the rustic texture of most tomato-based sauces 2) when your sauce is complete, blitz it in a blender. combining this by doing it after you’ve strained it gives you a silky smooth professional-looking sauce 3) the best option in my opinion, and the way i do it in the restaurant: just count how many whole cloves you flavour the dish with. if you put in 2 bay leaf + 8 clove, make sure you remove 2 bay leaf + 8 cloves when it is ready to serve just wanted to help in case you hadn’t thought of those options (: i am a chef if that is any consolation

Cengkeh kan aslinya emang dari Indonesia, Maluku tepatnya, tp kemudian menyebar se Nusantara trus dibawa ke India, Sri Lanka, Madagaskar dll.

The clove trees are endemic or native to the Moluccan Islands but never gets a mention in this video. I am Filipino and been researching about the related species which can be found here in the Philippines. The world owes the cloves to the Moluccan islanders.

I can also confirm that labourers get from 20 to maybe 30 dollars for the ones on trees and just 10 dollars or below for the other workers

or maybe cultivate a clove tree that can be harvested from the ground... which is possible... you just take some of the tree and try to make it grow somewhere else...
