Honestly, it would've been sorta funny to add his character to Coming 2 America as a nod to the failed sitcom. Hell, let's not sit up here and act like Coming 2 America would've been any WORSE with Tommy making an appearance. They had cameos for days in that movie 😂

This once again shows the genius mind Eddie Murphy has. Even though it wasn't a success as a TV show. It's the thought that counts especially taking action towards it. It's like when Ice Cube tried to turn Friday into a TV show. Some things are just better as movie franchises...very true or definitely correct?

Tommy Davidson is a very funny talented man. However, he was NOT funny in this project. It was just the wrong one for him. In Living Color and stand up were the perfect showcases for his talents. God knows best. When one door shuts another door opens.

As I said before, a lot of sitcoms did well on syndication including "Harry and the Hendersons" and others did not because they've failed miserably.

Before the pilot aired the decision had already been made not to make it into a series, so it really didn’t matter for the time slot, since they weren’t actually trying to test it. The network, to fill time slots, that summer created a series of specials that showed pilots that were not picked up, and this aired, it’s one and only time, as part of that.

Lets hope we forget the second movie like this sitcom

Maybe they should’ve gotten a writer who didn’t go through the Norman Lear machine. And when Hecht wrote for *Diff’rent Strokes,* he wrote for the Sam and Maggie years. Paramount only hired him because he had just finished three years working for *Webster,* which had just ended around the same time. What they failed to take into account is that the adults on those shows were white, rich, and pretty sheltered from all things black until their respective adoptions of black children. The final nail in the coffin was CBS itself. They gave little to no support to any of the Black sitcoms that came and went after the end of *The Jeffersons.* *Charlie and Co.* was a *Cosby* wannabe with Flip Wilson seeming ill-at-ease being confined to only one character. *Melba* had the bad luck of premiering the same night the Challenger space shuttle exploded and somehow never overcame that. *Frank’s Place* should have been a hit but CBS kept moving its time slot around and nobody could find it. Even NBC’s *ALF* paid it proper respects after it was canceled.

Which way is up..

It's becoming clear to me that if a film or television show isn't a reflection of a comedian's style, then it is doomed to fail. No matter how big the fan base the talent has...if it doesn't feel like the jokes are coming from him/her, then it's not going to work.

I don't know what was worst Coming to America the tv show or Coming 2 America that is a hard one.

I learned about this show a few months ago from another RU-vid channel called Forgotten Failures. God knew what was best for TD. That’s why it didn’t work out, because something bigger was waiting for him. But on the subject of White ppl writing for our shows, Im beyond over it. Id bet a million dollars there’s not a single Black person in the writers rooms for Friends, Frazier, Big Bang Theory. Im tired of them trying to tell our stories

Lol because the idea is stupid. When TV characters on sketch shows get their own series or movies it's because they don't get too much exposure and there's enough depth leftover to create more stories but this is just them trying to hang onto a classic movie through a brand new story

It’s unfortunate that this didn’t happen, but Tommy Davidson is a legend/trailblazer! If that hadn’t happened, we also wouldn’t have received the genius of ‘The Proud Family’! One of my favorite animated shows, to this day. 🙌🏿🤎🤎
