The real reason Conker is dead and probably not coming back is because time has caught up with his gimmick. Let's be real with ourselves, the main draw to Conker's Bad Fur Day was the adult edge. This game seemingly made for children with cutesy-looking characters, looking like it was going to fit right in line with other platformer mascots like Mario, Sonic, Banjo, Crash Bandicoot, and Spyro the Dragon, has swearing, drinking, pissing, explicit references, gore, and a literal pile of living shit. The game itself is solid and a great platformer, but the adultery was the only reason people cared for it. Conker came at a time where the SIMPSONS was considered edgy. A time where South Park was just starting out. A time before Family Guy. Adult animation was considered a novelty then, and Conker was an anomaly for its vulgar content, especially from Nintendo and Rare. But... time has passed and our standards have changed. We as a society are more open to adult content in our media. A game like Conker's Bad Fur Day wouldn't stand out if it were made today. Oh, a bright and colorful world with a bunch of swearing and sex jokes? Get in line bud, we have hundreds of those now. And we're reaching a point where we demand more from adult animation. We want to be challenged by thoughts and ideas rather than thoughtless debauchery and grotesque absurdity. People are sick of Family Guy. South Park does deep story arcs now. Thought-provoking series like Bojack Horseman have become popular and are "in". Conker doesn't fit that mold, and to try and change Conker into anything but what he was just wouldn't feel right. They attempted to lighten on the swearing with Reloaded, and guess what happened? Despite the improved graphics and quality-of-life changes, fans still universally prefer the original. He's a time capsule of a certain point in the 90s, and that's how he will stay for the foreseeable future.
Yeah, the whole "cute characters doing crude things" trope was funny when south park did it 20 years ago but it's gotten pretty stale nowadays, just look at how so many of these "mature" cartoons with middle schooler-teir humor and nothing else like sausage party, brickleberry, modern family guy, ect are being panned and people are ignoring or hating it, and conker would be no different, thrown into the pile of other raunchy edgy 90s era shock comedies that people have milked for decades. No wonder anime is so popular amongst the teenage/young adult crowd today, it usually has more actual maturity and depth to offer audiences as well as beautiful art styles and atmospheres similar to what we grew up on. And shows like Invincible and that Amazon D&D cartoon seem to be taking a page out of their playbook, so maybe the future isn't so bleak.
I would have loved a by the numbers family friendly mascot platformer. I didn't have enough of them, especially on the N64 Mostly because game cartridges were really expensive, also I didn't know about the _existence of_ the Banjo Kazooie games until about a decade later
Video game critics (of the parent variety) really irritate me. Either they're all dumb kids games, or they're too mature and need to be toned down. It's not the responsibility of entertainment to be the parents; if you don't want your kids to play a crude, cartoony video game, then don't buy it. It's not like anybody's twisting your arm to play or watch these games and movies and shows.
I definitely think that he can always come back in the future much like Banjo-Kazooie is going to, especially in regards to Smash. I can definitely see remakes of Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie and Conker’s Bad Fur Day being made, as well as a Bad Fur Day sequel and Banjo-Threeie. That being said though, their popularity now is much different from their popularity back then. Most people who play the games now are adults and have grown up past the time when they were truly revolutionary titles. They’ll always be as popular as Crash and Spyro sure, but it’s hard to say that they would jump as far in popularity as, say, Mario Odyssey, or Animal Crossing New Horizons. Definitely not gonna slouch in their comebacks and future games, but they’re most likely not gonna reach the same fame to other video game standards of other triple A companies today. But hey, as long as they’re more successful with the remakes and sequels than the original releases regardless, then that still at least implies that there will always be new and returning fans of these games.
I'm 3 years late but this is really true, maybe so more than ever now on 2023, people literally invent new words and change the meaning of old words to GET offended by them, Conker on this day and age would flop FAST and tank HARD! And to stand out they'd have to ramp up everything so it can compete with other gross adult oriented games, Conker would have to be more violent more sexual and more outrageous and it could possibly kill it
I disagree. I think a "modern" Conker game could be a moderate success. Referential humor and breaking the 4th wall is still a thing (it's what people call "meta" humor), so that still could be done. That's going to sound weird and I hate that word but, to stay "edgy" and avoid bad reviews from the Gaming press, they just need to.. be "woke." They could put a trans secondary character, or make fun of conservatives/Republicans. Gaming journalists + a certain part of Twitter are going to praise it. Of course that would be a highly divisive move, but I can see such a thing happening and making money.
I know this video was made about 2 years ago. But, when I was 10, I was hooked with the game, as I wanted to play, but my parents wouldn't let me play it, so, I waited til I get older. Now I'm older, I may old enough to play the game, but there were several issues. The first, and biggest of all, is that I don't have a N64 or the game, not mention that the game is definitely expensive, as if it's rare to find. Second, by the time I'm writing this, I am helping supporting my mom over divorce, and I cut my ties with my dad entirely and hopefully permanently. But, considering living in a Christian household, looks like it's going to be awhile before I move out. Third and final reason, I have too much responsibilities as I grew older, such as school work, and I don't have time to play video games as I used to. Maybe I'll able to play the game, or, creating a bucket list of games I want to play. Also, non-topic, but did you know that the weasels in the game were inspired by Who Framed Roger Rabbit that the weasels in the film inspired by The Wind In The Willows?
Conker's Bad Fur Day I feel has the same problems with Mother 3/Earthbound 2 & PM:TTYD getting remastered (but TTYD I don't think has as much as the same problems with the other 2 games just mentioned) all 3 of these games are games of the 2000s that couldn't be replicated today. Sure, there's an argument to give Mother 3 & TTYD higher age ratings but that isn't going to stop parents from buying them. Remember the DDLC controversy that happened on the British news? (Even though that was dumb) Your ending speech about the game being one of a kind was great & same could be said with Mother 3 & TTYD!
I have a feeling it’s because he can’t make custom thumbnails due to not having enough subscribers , so it just pulls a image from a part of the video. Edit: he has changed it.
I hate the influence of pc culture, it’s only going to get worse and worse until people namely content creators stand up to these people and tell them no…either that or show them the middle finger and just ignore their wining and bitching.
