Recently got pulled over on my bike and the cop alledged that i was running, i had no idea he was behind me until i slowed down for a corner and saw the lights. I only pullled over cause I was startled and I figured he was close enough to have my plate. Found out afterwards he didn't and that he actually slowed down the pursuit cause he was nervous trying to keep up with me (I was having a spirited ride but nowhere at the limit of my skill or the bikes capabilities so could have pushed mutch harder). After trying to explain I pulled over as soon as i saw the lights and him angrily saying i was a liar all i could think was "fuck man i should have just ran, i would have dropped him in half a mile if i had been going race pace" now I'm being chraged with running and speeding for trying to play by their rules. I honestly seriously considered selling my bike afterwards because I try to ride safely and consider other road users, people pulling out of driveways, random patches of gravel, oil, or grass cuttings in the road, animals and children jumping out, but riding the speed limit as an experienced rider (been on motorcycles since i was four years old) on a capable bike literally feels like im going in slow motion. It's hard to resist the temptation to speed and i don't wanna be constantly looking over my shoulder or be ready to run as soon as i see lights, if it was only putting myself at risk I'd be s total street rossi but I couldn't live with myself if I ended up hurting someone else or the cop chasing me ended up hurting someone else. For now I'm keeping my bike strictly for gas saving transportation to ride bored af at the speed limit and keeping my wild need for speed on my dirtbike in my backyard or at enduro races where theres no speed limit and nobody to pull me over. I love bikes and I'm perfectly ok with taking some personal risk for a thrill but when other people are involved it changes things for me. Policing, the juctice system, and traffic laws are all extremely flawed but unfortunately at this point the best thing I feel i can do is just leave racing for the track and ride like I'm on a vespa on the street. Honestly i feel like if track days were more accessible and less expensive then people would get it out of their system more, know the limits of their bikes better and have less temptation to be street Rossi's but thats just my two cents. Hopefully the chrages get dropped or reduced but i was definitely guilty of speeding just not running and its fucked that the way it was handled honestly made me feel stupid for not running.
