I've been riding motorcycles for fifty five years, begining in the UK where lane splitting was always accepted practice, but most of my riding has been in Australia where lane splitting has only become legal in recent years. I never pull up behind a vehicle at traffic lights I always split the lane and gotten to the white line. I do this to avoid being rear ended in stationary traffic. There have been times when police have tried to book me for it. The conversation usually goes like this. "Why did you split the lane?" Me "Officer as an experienced policeman, can you tell me what is the most common type of vehicle accident in this type of scenario?" Then some tooing and frowing "Would you agree that in a traffic light situation the most common accidents are rear enders?" Policeman "It remains illegal to split lanes!" "No person can be compelled to comply with a law that presents a real risk of injury or death." Polkicemen usually give up and save face by giving a stern warning. In the long run motorcyclists were able to get the law changed by merely on mass ignoring the lane splitting laws.

I don't really fit into any of these categories. Closest fit is atgatt bubble boy but I'm certainly not scared of motorcycles... I also consider riding skill to be the most key contributor to safety. I have a healthy respect for how no amount of skill can save you from lady luck having it out for you one day.

I'm a Canadian from this guy's neck of the woods. No way cops are allowed to do that here. In some regions cops can be a-holes, but I'm not aware of any Canadian jurisdiction which allows a cop to tackle you out of the blue without either identifying themselves or having any justification.

In my country, there are this kind of usual crime where motocyclists goes to car driver (especially female driver because they're mostly unaware and easy victim) and tell them that their car had flat tire, or anything to make the driver stop and check their vehicle, these are one of the modus to rob the driver. Anyway, back to this story, the 2 witnesess also motorcyclist (I read this in an article... I think both of them are motorcyclist not a motorcyclist and a truck driver) and they both along with Derr followed her home, yes she was wrong because she brought possibly threat to a house only consist of her mother and daughter all helpless female, probably because she was panicking as we heard from the footage. And all the story provided to the police is only one side story from Derr and two motorcyclists witnesses, while the victim cannot defending herself
