It's common for a family business to remove ownership from a family member going through a divorce to protect the company from having to be divided or having the ex spouse get partial ownership It would also help him owe less if his half is smaller

It was silver coins in sack & silver ingots. No gold if I recall. The coins were mostly circulated pre-67 coins making their worth as scrap silver far in excess of their face value.

If you have ownership in a business, you literally own a portion of it, it can't just be taken away without compensation. You can be bought out of course, but if you really own a percentage, it can't just be taken.
