Just stumbled across your channel while roaming through the strange yet fascinating world of the RU-vid algorithm. Very interesting subject which I don't believe I've ever seen touched on here before. As a fellow young member of the ocean liner community, while I was turned off by the Queens Victoria and Elizabeth being just cruise ships and not real liners like with QM2 and the previous greats, I still harbor a great deal of respect for them. Their interiors are very much like that of an ocean liner as you mentioned, and in my mind there is nothing to argue about it. On top of that, they aren't your typical Vista-class cruise ship either. They're longer than the others to better help in plowing through swells, they have a slightly deeper draft for better stability, and perhaps most important, their bows are reinforced with more metal than a typical cruise ship, thus they are also stronger. Put all that together, and even in Force 11 conditions, they can hold their own quite well for a cruise ship, which I'm greatly impressed by and admire. For me, the only reasons I wish they were real liners are simply because it'd be in keeping with tradition and that it's the pinnacle of ship design. But regardless, I would love to have the opportunity to sail on them someday. New sub. :) (bold of you to assume the new Queen will be named Anne 😆 she most likely will be though)

I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt that some of these ships have a casino style look to them. It's something that has picked at the back of my mind for a while. Granted, the interior does look really nice but I expected someone more from these newer passenger ships. The Queen Mary does have a more regal overall look and feel to it. As always, I never fail to learn something new whenever I watch your videos. Amazing work as always. Keep up the quality content and I'm already looking forward to your next video :)

Cunard, where passengers are treated with respect. One factor to consider is the passenger/crew ratio, with the ratio on Cunard as one of the best in the industry. Having sailed on each of the "Queen's" I was pleased that you enjoyed the experience on Queen Elizabeth.

Queen Elizabeth has been present for the launching of all three of Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth’s; the original Queen Elizabeth in 1938 (back when she was known as Princess Elizabeth), the Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) in 1967, and the current Queen Elizabeth in 2010. She really is immortal.

Saw the QE in Sydney a few months ago, genuinely thought it was an ocean liner until I looked it up. I like that at least they're keeping some of the vibes of the QE2 and QM2 (Though part of me wants an old style liner like QM, Mauretania Class or Olympic Class as impractical as that would be.

Yes indeed! Queen Ann is the new name and it was just confirmed! While the exterior is almost a carbon copy of the Pinnacle Class cruise ship design, the interiors look to be as stunning and heritage-driven as on the Queen Elizabeth. And thank you for your kind words!

The "casino style" is basically taking a vista class box and applying classy finishes materials to them, it's not truly integrated design where the fundamental shape of the space was thought about as the first step. Celebrity Edge is a good example of a ship where the company cared about integrated design, and not slapping on classy finishes to an already designed ship.
@ManWhoLovesTheMary
@ManWhoLovesTheMary 2 года назад
I agree. It appears we are all looking forward to the day when Cunard debuts a distinct and custom-built [ocean liner] that will live on through the ages. Celebrity does an amazing job at customizing their ships. Although they're "cruise ships," they have as much class and credit as the ocean liners of the past that we're so inspired by decades later..inside as well as out. Disney and, to some degree, Royal Caribbean are other good examples of integrated design.
@pumpkin462
@pumpkin462 Год назад
You are incorrect on the vista class origins, it was not Carnival Vista that is an entirely different class. This is the Carnival Pride (2001) Spirit, Legend, Miracle as well as HAL Zuiderdam (2002) Westerdam, Oosterdam ect.

What part of Queen Elizabeth's decor and design is Victorian? "Cause I ain't seein' any. QE looks like she was hit by an Art Deco tsunami. I absolutely love Deco and I'd be really happy on this ship.
@ManWhoLovesTheMary
@ManWhoLovesTheMary 2 года назад
The Queen Elizabeth is a hybrid of "Victorian" and Art Deco - as it's mostly recreated and a form of the two...inspired by; while other parts are nods to iconic places in England. The Grand Lobby, Library (with a very "My Fair Lady" accent, if I do say so), to some extent the Queen's Room, The Royal Court Theatre and the Garden Lounge are Victorian inspired...and probably Edwardian to a certain extent. So much love and care was put into it despite the (kind of mostly) prefabricated Vista Class structure that they were given to work with. I hope you get an opportunity to board her one of these days. I'd love to travel Alaska aboard her, myself.

I'd say it will be something like what happened to the Olympic and Mauretania back in 1935, where so many of their (full) rooms and decor were incorporated into buildings on land. I should think that the original Queen Elizabeth marquetry panel will end up in a really unique place.

You mixed up your vista's. QE and QV were not built to the blueprints of the Carnival Vista class, but to the blueprints of the Holland America Line vista class. Which started with the ms Zuiderdam in 2002.

From the forward 3/4 view the QV and QE aren’t unattractive. The funnel could have been 50% taller and QV’s original angled aft deck complimented the forward angled superstructure. The additional aft cabins added later compromised the aft appearance and like the newer QE has an ungainly aft section. That said QV and QE are still more attractive than the new Queen Anne if the renderings are accurate.
@robswan4170

I imagine the height of the funnel has to do with bridge clearances

All 3 ships are getting old and boring. Just came back from 16 days Cunard. It degraded a lot. food quality, selection and quantity BAD, no lobster, no crab. Especially bad at the Lido. Super short handed. It is at the Carnival cruise style but 4 times the price. No dance host, no queens room Hostess, no professional dancer exhibition, 8 kids running around on the dance floor while people were dancing etc. will not recommend for this price (we are Diamond on Cunard, not a newbie)

@ManWhoLovesTheMary 2 года назад
No lobster or crab!? I didn't mention it, but you can see in this video some stain right below the skylight in the Garden Lounge. I remember seeing sushi aboard when I went to visit. Hopefully, this is because of the aftermath of the pandemic and they only improve quality of life aboard these ships as the world returns to normalcy. Especially with Queen Anne debuting, you'd like to think that amenities would only enhance.

Ehhh... There's something odd and anachronistic about creating reproductions of old architectural styles inside a modern ship. Yeah, all the liners used to have that, with Jacobean, Tudor, Louis XV, etc interiors to steel, coal-powered, industrial age ships. But, that stopped in the 1920s, with ships like the 'Ile de France' and 'Bremen' having then-modern Art Deco interiors. And they never looked back after that. RMS 'Queen Mary', RMS 'Queen Elizabeth', RMS 'Caronia', etc had interiors that were not only current in their day, but pushed the conventions of the style, with upholsteries in daring colours and modern artworks. BUT, the interior of the MV 'Queen Elizabeth' isn't even a reproduction of anything. No, it isn't Victorian. It's a cheap, modern imitation of Victorian, schizophrenically jumbled in with wannabe Art Nouveau, Art Deco, and Edwardian. (Which reminds me: The Victorian era ended in 1901. 1910 was during the Edwardian era.) Nowhere in there is Rococo; pseudo or otherwise. Don't get me wrong. The ship is elegant and shows an attention to design, material, detail, and craftmanship rarely found on ships these days. And, yes, it isn't kitschy. But, there's a lot of quality and detail at Disneyland and Disney World, too. The term is "asymmetrical" and a "suffix" is the end of a word, following the root, by the way. "Queen" in the names of Cunard's current ships would be a pre-nominal title. Further, the Duchess of Cornwall no longer possesses the name Parker-Bowles and the RMS 'Queen Elizabeth' was not launched by a reigning monarch. Queen Elizabeth--the wife of King George VI--was a queen consort, not a queen regnant. And, lastly, the model in the Yacht Club is the 'Queen Elizabeth 2', not the original 'Queen Elizabeth'.
