This is a Mini Documentary about the life of Darius McCollum. How he managed to steal hundreds of vehicles from New York's Transit system - and why that's kind of more ok than you might assume at first.
▨▨▨▨▨
Off The Rails Documentary:
• Public Transport Hijac...
You should definitely watch it if you want more information about his life.

You can't really steal a train. At most you borrow it for awhile.

I wrote 2 letters to him last April. He loved them both so much that not only did he write back both times but along with the letters he wrote back to me he sent big envelopes full of train memorabilia. I'm not kidding either. I also got on DVD that documentary about him, Off the Rails: The Darius McCollum Story

Because he's a criminal! He was polite, helpful, and kept the trains on schedule, even after his arrests. We can't have a menace like him ruining society!
@Cheeeeseman

A history of mental problems and a criminal record probably made him ineligible.
@evilsheepmaster1744

@@Cheeeeseman I'm sure that's the actual correct answer, but his situation highlights the shittiness of the systems surrounding employment, mental health, and prior criminal offences.

Oh, so glad you made this! One of my favorite stories. edit: I wrote that comment before I had heard the whole story. I didn't know he was autistic but I felt it because my son is the same. He knows basically every train from every country in the world. I hadn't heard the whole story especially the part about prison! Holy smokes. This sadly says a lot, an awful lot, about the United States. So glad I moved to Europe.

This is actually sad as fuck , he has a PASSION for it while other conductors just do it because its a job , he would be 100% better than ever body else because of passion but if the poor bloke just waited and did the training he could of lived his dream.
@Ass_of_Amalek
@Ass_of_Amalek 2 года назад
you're changing things up with a sad story, I see. :( clearly the guy was failed by the system. if he had started right, he probably would have spent his whole life driving trains happily and safely. being born black in brooklyn in 1965, it's probably safe to assume that stealing seemed to him like a normal way to do things, and since he stopped attending school, he probably saw it as impossible for him to have a proper career as a train driver. I think it was probably apparent to a lot of people that he was obsessed with becoming a train driver well before he got caught on a stolen train. if only somebody would have helped him toget through school well enough and get accepted into the normal training and hiring process for train drivers...this man should have had a happy life as a productive member of society! 😣

Great narration (as usual)! I want a mini Toast too! Please post link to your store. Shame on the MTA, and the justice system, for being so blind, and obtuse. All the qualities they demand in their drivers, he has in spades, and they count for nothing in their (stupid blind) eyes. It says a lot about the USA too.

I came here before I was given Darius's story in China language. I was shocked he can manuver subway at 15yo. I was shocked he was not given a job at MTA. He is too obvious a staff wannabe. A brilliant kid that was well inspired by, but never been accepted by the concrete jungle. This Newyork look nothing like Zootopia. Before this story I believe there is no systematic prejudice against certain group people. But when I see all the main English media is using the verb "stole" "rob""theif" to discribe a boy, who made all the stop correctly for the subway, I believe there is systematic prejudice, from the court to the media. Imagine the same story happen in 1950 Britain with a euro face, they will depict the story as a staff ignorance and the teenager save the day. And I still don't understand why Newyork MTA can not bear to have one more staff named Darius. I can not understand.

He could start his own stealth gig where he takes over trains as a contractor basis there are no loop holes preventing this but yeah he didn't get some exclusive deal or therapy cuz he's black otherwise he had a chance to get those things mentioned and a book deal and a consulting firm. Very stupid they decided to arrest him and use tax payer dollars when what he's doing is aiding those companies by allowing those people to take paid vacations and rest periods so they could perform better at their job the next day he literally could be hired by the entire city's transportation division to cut half a days pay off of each worker he fills in for or be given a city commission he reports his lines the people don't get fired they retain full pay and he has both a livelihood fulfilling a community service with pristine record.
