When you fall to the dark side, it slowly kills your emotional ability to identify with others. In other words, the dark side eventually trurns you into a sociopath. But... what if you are born that way? What if you are a psychopath from the start? Then... you are sith material my friend with the potential to become absolute and unlimited power!!!
You're raising the bar super high with every upload. This is by far the top most interesting of them all. I'm totally enlightened about Star Wars lore each and every time one of your STUPENDOUS uploads reaches my sub box! Thank You Sir!
I'll be honest, you explained this extremely well, given that it could have sounded like "Mental illness makes you evil as it affords you strength with the Dark Side" but you avoided that. Also, keep up the good work on the videos :)
Sidious being a sociopath may be both his greatest strength and weakness. As Luke said, "Your overconfidence is your weakness." Sidious was so full of himself that he very rarely experienced real fear to the point where he took reckless risks, which would doom Banes Sith, the Rule of Two.
***** No I dont, I've read a few comics, but I've never claimed to know everything about Doctor strange, I simply used a movie reference to answer the question in the video. Don't paint me out of be some brainwashed idiot just because you think its ok. Fuck off mate, you just got destroyed.
Darth Sidious (in Shakespearian dialogue): Then so be it Jedi. Thy proclamations foolish change not this. I still control thy final destiny. If thou shalt not be turned then Thou shalt be destroy'd. Bear witness to the terror and torment of the dark side of the Force! (electrocutes Luke). Young fool tis only now in this thy final living moment that thou doest comprehend thy folly and my might. Thy feeble skills are nothing when compared to all the power of the dark side. Thou doust pay the rightful price for thy severe and utter lack of Vision! Aye, thy debt is due, and I am both thy creditor and thy collector too. What thou hast not repaid with thy belief I shall extract from thy own flesh. And O, what joy it brings to charge thee thus - my payment justly earn'd To wound thee, break thee and at last to bring thee the death that I am ow'd. And now young Luke Skywalker. Thou. Shalt. Die!
I think you are right. Anakin/Vader had the most potential in the force but held back most of the time due to lingering conflicting emotions. Sidious had no real emotional attachments and therefore more fully controlled the dark side. I think that when Anakin went back to the light side at the end he became more powerful than Sidious though, which is also why he could become a force ghost without any training.
+The Stupendous Wave I find him more of a Psychopath, he was able to fake that he was a good politician, how he cared for others, and to fool the Jedi and galaxy. But some Sociopaths have been known to fake as well but they aren't as smart and don't plan out as much as psychopaths. I study psychology but that's just me. And besides I agree with you and this is a great theory and good job breaking this down.
eating raw faces is my least favorite thing to do. No both are born that way, idk maybe we can become it also, mental illness is one of the big parts on becoming a serial killer too btw.
I think one of the reasons Sidious became so powerful was the clone war. The clone war wasn't just a distraction for the Sith to blind the Jedi - the sheer immensity and sum total of the conflict and brutality probably fed Sidious, similar to Ares the God of War in Greek mythology.
Sociopaths and psychopaths seem to be terms people use interchangebly. You have confused the two. Palpatine, as most if not all darksiders, suffers an antisocial disorder. As for the difference between sociopathy and psychopathy, the biggest difference lies in that sociopaths are less likely to control themselves and are spontanious. Psychopaths tend to be more planning. They'll have backup plans for their backup plan. Psychopathy is the condition you're born with, while sociopathy is brought on by trauma and other external factors. Palpatine was a psychopath.
If you read the legends novels, it's actually more likely sociopath. Palpatine was extremely reckless and narcissistic in an unplanned non-advantageous way in his youth. Psychopaths, whilst similarly completely lacking empathy for others, are often calm in their manipulation such that they completely mislead others about their true nature, which they are born with. Such manipulative skills only surface in palpatine AFTER he's met Plagueis who teaches him how to better put his cruelty to use. So that's why palpatine doesn't really fit the mold of a sociopath. Also, if i understand correctly, most emotion is kinda lost on psychopaths and what ones they do show are largely faked because they think it will benefit. But we know sith/dark side highly emphasize emotions (of the negative kind) to increase their power.
@@bigj1979 Yes and no, your born with the chance to become one. If you get beaten every single day by your father, your family doesnt love you and try to get rid of you. Thats A way to become one
Sometimes I feel like these theories are so crazy that they force me to ponder them so intently that I break off connections with the outside world, slowly growing in my isolation, until one day I am powerful enough in the Force to vanquish even my mightiest foes with just a flick of my...oh, no, just pale skin, alright.
you have become a channel that I watch more than once every now and then. I watch your channel a lot, and thanks for the videos. Sometimes I am too busy to read, or doing multiple things, and it's pretty easy to listen to your videos and still obtain the information even while doing something else. Thanks again for helping my day's go by faster.
Sith - dark side users. The greatest siths of all had anti social personality disorder. just check on the DSM - the book about mental health... Vader is not like Sidius.. he can feel. he had borderline personality disorder...
Do one on how Darth Revan was able to resist the temptations of the dark side, or do what happened to Darth Maul after he fell down the core and before they found him in The Clone Wars series.
Does Mewtwo's psychic powers have a chance of repelling the fullest peek of Palpatine/Darth Sidious's dark side force powers, including his most powerful force lightning?
fusiontoa18 So you're saying if Darth Sidious unleashed his most powerful force lightning at Mewtwo, Mewtwo would block or deflect it with his psychic powers like if it was nothing?
You have a gift for narrative, not many keep my interest over a long dissertation. Basically many sites put me to sleep, yours was very interesting and I enjoy your observations and explanations of the star wars lore. Thanks for the time and effort it took to make these videos, I will enjoy following your site.
I always thought that too, the only time he seemed to care about someone was for the defeated Vader in mustafar, but looking foward on everything he have done with Vader later, we can see that actually he was only concerned for him like an object, something that he must fix, control and use. Great video btw :D
I disagree. I think he wouldn't have touched the children, he wouldn't have been found by Bail Organa and Yoda or if he had, and had felt Yoda die he probably would have just have vanished and shrunk away from the Galaxy. Or he may have thrown himself at the Emperor and been annihilated. The kids probably would have both stayed with Bail and Leia would have gone on to do what she did, but Luke? Who knows.
i doubt he would've shrank away from the galaxy. i also doubt he would throw himself at the emperor, he's not stupid. if he didn't train the kids, which i truly think he would, he'd go and find surviving jedi willing to help him fight against the empire.
I believe that the antisocial personality disorder of Sidious contributed to his being very powerful in the Force. But a couple of things that make Sidious the most powerful Sith Lord of all time: One: George Lucas said that Sidious is the most powerful Sith Lord, so his word over ours, end of story. Two: Sidious knowledge of the Force through Sith holocrons and texts through Plagueis. Sidious had a very good foundation to learn his power from older Sith, such as Darth Revan, Darth Bane, and Darth Vitiate. While in a few abilities he does not master completely, such as coming back from the dead, he still in general was the most powerful practitioner of the Dark side with immense Force Lighting, Force concealment, Force mind control, and Force Storm. And you need to thank the older Sith Lords for giving Sidious this knowledge.
I would attribute some of this to the force itself. At the time of Sidious the galaxy was stagnant with a millennium of peace. Sure there were planetary wars and conflicts, but nothing on the scale of the great hyperspace war or the events of KOTOR. The force is well known to be a living entity and even the prequel movies made reference to its need to "balance" itself. Basically, the galaxy swung the pendulum to the dark side so Sidious was in the right place at the right time.
With reference to Annointed Gold's comment, good and evil are subjective and what You do with Them is Action, pure unbridled Action which carries things out, it is beyond rules and predetermined rights or mechanisms
By was been shown it’s both the dark side can give you power but power itself corrupts usually wearing away ones morals while with no morals are Absolutely drawn to it.
In season 2, episode 3 of Rebels, I'm pretty sure Rex tells Zeb to conserve his ammo. Contrary to that, EA's Star Wars Battlefront is technically canon, and in that game they don't use ammo but instead overheat mechanics and somewhat of a charge system. I like to look to the now non-canon game, Star Wars Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, as both systems are employed for various blasters in that game.
MegaLalapala they use Tibanna gas, which lasts AGES, it basically gives the blasters energy that they can fire. You VERY rarely have to reload a blaster.
Sidious would easily win. Traya wasn't extremely powerful. She was manipulative. It says in the stories of the old republic that Nihilus and Psion were both far more powerful than Traya, she just preyed on how broken they were, manipulated them into becoming her apprentices even though they didn't need a master. She would have no power over Sidious, he is the father of manipulation. Now Revan, Nihilus, or Psion would be more interesting matchups.
Do you mean Traya before she was betrayed by Sion and Nihilus, or Traya when she battled the exile? I get the impression that Kreia became a lot more powerful after her journey with the exile than she was before it. Still, against a guy like Sidious in terms of raw power, she falls short even then, though post KOTOR 2 Kreia would do better. Kreia's abilities though are a bit ambiguous, like her ability to manipulate echoes, or sever one's connection to the force.
What if in Episode 3, in the battle between Anakin, Obi-Wan and Count Dooku, Obi-Wan was NOT knocked unconscious and witnessed Palpatine convince Anakin to kill Dooku or even stop the death of Dooku?
Revan might be able to edge out a victory. obviously not through just raw power but brains aswell, which Revan is known for. A star forge powered Revan might even be able to match Sidious' power.
He is the most powerful canon Sith by a long shot, but if you look at Legends then he has some contenders. Nihilus pulled a fleet out of a gravity well with telekinesis, a feat no one else has even come close to reproducing, and he has and can repeatedly drain all life from a planet with a thought. So he would definitely be a rival to Sidious when it comes to raw power. Similarily, Sion had such mastery of the dark side that he held his dead and decaying body together, and kept himself alive, for a good 50 years. This was an extreme showing of healing and control on top of everything else he did. He used this ability to fight in 3 major Sith wars, and then personally hunt down and exterminate hundreds of Jedi. Darth Traya discovered and attempted a ritual that would eliminate everyone's ability to use the force. Think about that. Traya would have killed the force itself... Vitiate drained all life from a planet and crushed Revan's mind with a thought, forcibly turning him to the dark side. Tulak Horde conquered over 100 planets for his Sith Empire and was never defeated in battle. He also reportedly pulled a star destroyer sized ship from orbit once. Exar Kun's force spirit rendered Luke, at the height of his power, incapable from across the galaxy. There are so many powerful Sith. Its nearly impossible to claim one is stronger from the other.
Darth Sidious has every force power ever and creates his own, that is OP. No sith in legends would stand a chance against a sith who could do every move they do too and more.
Tyler True He is the result of thousands of years of sith teachings and holocrons. And then goddamn fucking disney destroyed probably the largest fictional universe in history.
You hit the nail on the head. Palpatine really never did care greatly for others and it should be noted that his 'act' or 'requirement' for being initiated as a Sith apprentice was the killing of his own, entire family which he achieved practically effortlessly while Plagueis used his powerful connections to keep all blame away from Palpatine.
Palpatine isn't guided by a lack of ability to socialize.. He's guided by his thirst for power and blinded by his absolute lack of empathy. Most people would actually perceive him as very good at socializing, even if it only turns out to be a way for him to manipulate people in order to achieve his goals.
In Star Wars Legends, particularly (Dark Empire), we learned Palpatine embodied several sociopathic traits. He viewed the weak, people who could not use the Force, as beneath him and needing to be lead by the strong or crushed by them. As you mentioned he held deep contempt for the Jedi because they used their power to serve rather to rule and dominate. He has been know to harbor prejudice and hatred for nonhumanoid species. It can even been seen in his weapons of choice, Death Star, Star Destroyer, World Devastators. His mind is given over the darkest aspects of the Dark Side.
My thoughts exactly! As powerful as he was, I strongly believe there were multiple Sith before him who were inherently more powerful and talented than him. Though, being one of the most intelligent, talented, and powerful of the Sith himself, his psychotic mind is ultimately what allows him to stand alone among the rest.
+The Stupendous Wave I've been watching your videos for some time now, and although being a star wars fan since i was 7 (today i'm 16) i never dealt much with EU lore. With your "What if"- series, you even introduced theories to your audience. Do you know about the game theorists? Concerning Star Wars, you are more than just on par with them. Keep up your good work for us, but i think your place is at Lucasfilm (Disney)!
Very nice video but I don't actually think Sidious is a sociopath, but actually he is a psychopath. I know that the word has become too common and has lost its actual meaning bu a sociopath is mostly led by his dark emotions like anger, hatred etc and commit crimes or other terrible things without realising their consequences while also, sociopaths DO feel remorse soon after, they can't control themselves. Psychopaths on the contrary plan their actions with severe detail and they always try to commit their crimes or whatever after ensuring that they will not be get caught since they perfectly realise the results of failure and defeat. Psychopaths also have no emotions at all and are completely consumed of cold selfishness and ruthlessness while it has to be noted that psychopaths are not neccessarilly serial killers as the common misconception suggests because serial killers cannot control their desire to kill while from the other hand, psychopaths do and if it's not neccessary to kill they don't usually do it. So, I believe that Sidious is mostly a psychopath since he doesn't have any emotions and cares only for himself as you said but he is very careful with his actions and plans and that's why he succeeded so greatly in crushing the Jedi...
Wouldn't it be difficult for Sidious to be powerful without connection to emotion? Anger, Fear, Pain, Passion, if sociopaths don't have these feelings either, how will they use the dark side?
I'm not sure if being a sociopath links to anger and fear, maybe its just compassion or kinder emotions like love or loyalty, but I'm not an expert so idk
Sociopath's have these things you mention and you require passion to be powerful in the Dark Side. What the argument alludes is that the compassion associated with caring for other people interferes with the isolation and personal focus needed to achieve Dark Side Power. Dark Side is a selfish path that allows a person to achieve the total expression of power within the limits of their own knowledge or desire to know the Force. A child is an incredibly powerful being with its possibilities and no consideration for others. The world of a child is everything as it relates to it. it can be as expressive of itself as it needs or desires and sees the world around it as existing for that cause. But that is not an absolute power. It's selfishness is a limit. Light Side professes its path as selfless, expressing a universal awareness of the Force. This is also limiting. It doesn't truly recognize, or admit, to the character, limits or limitlessness of the Light Side user. It is a false sense of humility that can be as equally crippling as the Dark Side user's narcissism. Knowledge of self and one's place and power in the universe are the hallmarks of the most powerful Force users which put the Force ghosts as the most powerful servants of the Force. But in that context, they are servants because power in the True Force means eventually you succumb to the realization that you play a role in its ever growing and dancing tapestry of life and change. Just my two cents
I get the light side argument. I understand a sociopath won't ever be strong in the light. On the other hand, I was a little mixed up with sociopath and psychopath, the latter of which doesn't experience fear, guilt, anger, all darkside emotions that people like Vader use to fuel their power. Now, is Sidious was a psychopath, he would not have fear, anger, guilt and sadness/pain to draw on to fuel his power. Greed and perhaps hate(although I do believe most psychopaths are more indifferent than hateful) are the only things he could draw on, but those are two of a vast array of negative emotions that others like Vader can tap into.
I agree. That is why I think TSW was closer on point with Sidious/Palpatine being a sociopath. If a force user was a psychopath, then it would be more like the midiclurians - drawn to the darker aspects of the force, but not a user of force power per se.
Hi! Your statement is in fact factually incorrect as it is scientifically proven that both sociopaths and psychopaths experience anger to the highest degree possible with short out bursts of extreme rage even. They are known to even experience fear and passion to the things they actually are afraid or enjoy doing. A serial killer from the USA would orgasm automatically from choking women to death. A sociopath simply feels no empathy towards other and care only for themselves combined this with an extreme self-sevring rage and an instinctual passion to do things soley for themselves (power in this case) you create immensely dangerous people like Sidious.
So now I wonder... how do I defeat Sidious if I'm not Yoda and also not present when Sidious conveniently lets down his guard and lets his apprentice throw him down a reactor shaft?
I don't know if this is necessarily true. I believe Sidious felt concern and maybe even compassion for Vader when he met his defeat on Mustafar. Saying he never cared for anybody but himself may be a bit misguided. Otherwise that was a great video, I really enjoyed it.
Thanks! and I can address that, he did care for Vader but not on a level as a person, he cared for Vader because of what he had to offer and his power not who he was, that's even addressed in the ROTS novelization.
The Stupendous Wave I know i said this before but can you do a what if on anakin being knocked out on revenge of the sith while him & obi wan battle dooku instead of obi wan or can you do what if obi wan had killed dooku or defeated him instead of anakin
So a lot of the history is now moot, thanks disney, but it may have been selfish concern over spending time to find a new apprentice and train him. In content that is now legends, the reason he took Darth Tyrannus was because Maul was killed. All the time he spent grooming his weapon was lost, so he rushed for a temporary apprentice until Anakin could be groomed. He even says in movies strike your father down. If Luke had killed the burned Vader, he had potential to be what Anakin couldn't become because of his injuries and suit limitations. So I think there is some possibility of he was a sociopath.
Correction! Palpatine is a psychopath, not a sociopath! He lacks the capacity to form any genuine attachment to anyone! Only superficial relationships to further his own ends! Though just as manipulative and as sinister, sociopaths can still form genuine relationships and express real feelings to those they consider close to them. A true psychopath however, has no such capacity, whatsoever! Palpatine fits this bill perfectly!
the jedi could be considered stoics, philosophically. in some ways the sith are the ultimate romantics, and in that there is a sort of optimism and beleif in ones self that could be very benefitial
That was my conclusion years ago when i read some SW books and when I watched the original movies 4,5 and 6. Then watching episodes 1, 2 and 3 only proved my earlier assumptions on this correct.
+Jar Jar Binks I think Palpatine just thought he had Vader under complete control and didn't think Luke could break Vader out of his grasp of the darkness
I think it was him finally allowing dark side to cloud his mind he only focused on Luke Skywalker he forgot about his apreantice also Darth Vader has great strengh with his suit and cybernetic limbs while Darth Sidious would need to use the force to be able to use that knd of strengh Darth Vader doesn't need to use force to become stronger cause he's already strong as hell also Darth Sidious is not a type for physical combat without the force he cannot fight with lightsaber not because of lacking skill but because his physical atributes are those of like 80 years old man on the dark side .
I fought an extremely powerful mage online one time, everyone else was afraid of him... except me. he kept moving up and down the map, I confronted him on all fronts. he was able to keep even ME at bay...for a time. He still had 70% of his forces, I was down to just me and one of my most loyal generals. I wasn't 100% confident that I could take him in a straight up one on one, as he had gained additional powers by saying my armies and absorbing their powers as well... I knew I had to catch him slipping if I wanted a guaranteed victory. So I instructed my top general to offer himself up as bait, and challenge him to a one on one duel, knowing FULL well he wouldn't be able to resist, his cockiness was overwhelming. Almost unbearable. I waited a small distance away from the final battle, in the woods. Watching. Observing his moves carefully. Waiting. If he thought he could toss my top general to the side easily, he was in for a rude awakening. I had trained him myself. The moment my general saw him, he hesitated not. He began to cast lightning and tornadoes ⚡ 🌪️ directly at his face with everything he had, holding nothing back he cast the lightning as a distraction and then tornadoes immediately after, the lightning was blocked... but the tornado hit him directly in the chest! This made him take a step back and wince with pain. Ah. I thought. So he is not as invincible as he made himself out to be. He hurt him. HES NOT A MACHINE. He recovered quickly hower, and began firing DARK matter back at my general, which he blocked at first, but soon the dark magic broke through his spell shield and I watched as my general crumpled. And fell. I noticed the evil mage was breathing heavily, and had a trickle of blood running down his cheek. This was my chance I teleported out of the woods directly behind him, and summoned the full force I could muster, and launched three death beams through his back. He fell to his knees, and said "wait" I smiled and said, "your arrogance blinds you... Now you will experience the full Bower of the true dark side. I began casting my most bowerful universal cloud lighting at his target location, and at last I threw down my enemy and smote his ruin upon the mountainside.
alex glick He lost his first arm in Episode II to Count Dooku. Literally the one arm that was already cut off was the single appendage that Obi-Wan didn't cut off in Episode III. Poor guy.
I like how you still talk about Legends as if it is Canon. I am glad I am not the only one that views both the new star wars universes and the old as both canon, but set in different universes.
Wow. Never thought of it from that angle before, but it's a good interpretation of the Sith Code in combination with interpretation of Palpatine's character
obviously he must be unable to defend himself properly while using force lightning. Must also be deadly to touch someone using said lightning, hence why Darth Vader died.
