Palkia got an ofensive item to go along with his new offensive stats. Dialga got an ofensive item while still being primarily defensive in his stats.

I think its hilarious that Origin Dialga doesn't fundamentally change the way you play Dialga, since its bulk is already so good. Palkia and Origin Palkia have different enough stats that you have to play them differently, more than just the held item lock on Origin Palkia

It sucks because people wanted primal Dialga and we got this. It's sad that the Palkia and Dialga have fallen despite getting new forms that were supposed to make them stronger, but nope they are irrelevant. Hopefully they can do well in UUBERS

What kills it for me is the fact that the very bleh abilities it had is the exact same. Giratina-O has levitate, that really helps it out alot and a significant boon over the altered form. Dialga just isn't that lucky, if it wants to be defensive than maybe it could've gotten Filter?

Short Answer: Because the Origin Form can't hold Leftovers and Dialga doesn't have any recovery moves.

I'm honestly like one of the few people who like Origin Dialga. Forcing the crystals to be held items and not granting the buffs on their signature moves from Legend's arceus is going on the list of Gamefreak's sins.

primal dialga is also hilarious because it can get the same/better boosts from other items. SpDef: adamant crystal = 120 base spdef *VS* assault vest = 100 base spdef x1.5 (can still dragon tail for hazing, loses rocks/trick room) offenses: adamant crystal = lose 20 base attack and 20% boost to dragon/steel moves *VS* adamant orb = 20% boost to dragon/steel (also can go mixed much easier) It's outclassed by *it's own old signature item*, that's how bad it is

Origin Dialga is giving reference to Super Sayian Grade 3 in terms of powerup letdown.

Eventually we'll get NUBERS

How to fix origin dialga: give it a signature ability. Temporal reverse: Every three turns its out in the field this pokemon heals all damaged pokemon by 25% including itself. (basically dude reverses time) OR have the +20 stats go into spatk or defense so It can focus more on offense instead/do more body press damage

Origin Dialga's special bulk increase isn't as large as you'd think, from what I can discern from the brief calcs I did Origin Dialga the bulk increase does let Dialga-O live hits its base form can't. But its by such a slim margin in the Ubers environment you really only get one more free turn out of it before it gets revenge killed by the Pantheon of Uber threats that Dialga is forced to compete with.

The creation trio's cores should have just been key items. This might require the basic and primal forms to have more significant differences.

Palkia origin it’s very strong, very underrated

I feel that Dialga-O should've gotten 120 base speed as well (and 90 base Sdef). But to be honest, I am actually cool with Dialga-O failing to be relevant. If they wanna buff Dialga, they should buff the altered form directly instead of giving him a new form.

Ultimately the thing that really sucked for origin dialga and even palkia is the fact that they are stuck with the same abilities as their base forms (which aren't that great to begin with since they existed at a time when gamefreak just gave almost every legendary pressure) whereas origin form Giratina got a different abilities. Even giving them all levitate might have actually been something. As for dialga, it probably would have been neat if the origin form leaned more into being a defensive trick room abuser as an inverse of palkia being a fast offensive threat by cutting its speed further by 30 points and put it into its defences. that in combination of levitate eliminating its ground weakness could help it somewhat where the form has a trade off for greater endurance and be even better in trick room (which would thematically make sense for it being the ruler of time and bending the environment to ensure its faster). Yes it probably wont help as much because of lack of recovery but at least the form has a more defined use case vs its current form being an objectively worse version of its base form.

Neither Dialgas stats, nor its ability nor its signature move fit its lore. Dialga is supposed to be the god of time but it's speed stat is so mediocre and its signature move even hinders it from doing anything for an entire turn. Who the heck designed this mon?

Dialga is my favorite Pokemon so I'm glad this new abomination of a form didn't beat the OG one. Respect if you like it but it's just so...goofy looking.

I don't think it's fair to complain, since there's no real incentive to specify, but damn do I click on a lot of Smogon singles videos when I'm only interested in VGC. RU-vid is not great at differentiating the two, since both just use "Competitive Pokemon" usually. I'm complaining but for no reason in particular I guess. Good video from what I saw though.

Tbh what I wanna know is why the origin items in SV for the three Legendaries removed vital information which is that they grant the +20% bonus to dragon and their specific type like the none transformation items. Like it won't help the origin forms much as they suffer from many issues but if you want to use them for fun unless you know the items do grant the 20% buff you won't know that and it'll just make it look way worse than it is.

Taking into account that Dialga is the Dragon of Time, I'd say it aged very well

I really feel like GF has 0 comprehension of what makes a fun or good pokemon, except in the very extremes. They know what makes a godawful pokemon and they know what makes a stupdenously broken pokemon. Anything inbetween is just pure guesswork. Palkia: gets alternate form that increases its offensive prowess by boosting its speed, complemented by boosts to its powerful stab moves. Dialga: gets alternate form that increases its defensive prowess by boosting sp.def, which directly clashes with the item that boosts its powerful stab moves, which regular Dialga could already do in a way, so you get at BEST a sidegrade that lacks flexibility because they're stuck with a specific item. Not just competitively, but even in casual play it's hard to recommend changing your Dialga into Origin form. They either needed to put that attack into its special attack so it could become a better wallbreaker, or given the item a defensive boost instead of an offensive one. But GF is obsessed with making box legends mirror images of eachother in terms of stats, which often results in lopsided balance. They also refused to do anything interesting with the abilities for either mon. Dialga could've done well, anything really. Levitate would've been really good but im sure they could've thought of something else too. Perhaps we will see them get an update in the future, just like a lot of the other older legendary pokemon that are stuck with stuff like Pressure or another bad alternative (Mewtwo, my beloved, so sad that the ultimate life form is now not even competing amongst its legendary brethren anymore). Koraidon vs Miraidon, Electric terrain is obviously much better for Miraidon than sun is for Koraidon, perhaps if they had given Koraidon's signature move an additional boost in the sun to compete with the damage boost electric moves get it would be better. It already has to deal with burn and intimidate, so attack is already harder to get going consistently, and then they just give it worse moves too. Miraidon has fewer challenges like that and its move is just stronger, stupid really. Same thing happened with Zacian and Zamezanta, GFs obsession with giving these mons identical feeling stat distributions means a pokemon will just get less efficient because they refuse to give it higher base stats to offset how much better the offense of the other mon is.

Like, it's still a good held item for offensive sets. ×1.2 damage on two of your stabs is good and the extra +20 spdf is cool I guess Leftovers are better most of the time though, but it IS and option

So the legendary space time trio aren’t viable in normal Ubers….? I hate this generation, everything cool both got a fat baseball bat to the knee while also being immediately replaced by something similar but significantly better in a super hostile environment.
