This show came about through a reality tv race that was held in Alaska many years ago,at the end of the race the contestants ended up in Macarthy Alaska and the last checkpoint was the golden saloon, and guess who was there to greet them... Yes it was Jenn many years before edge of Alaska, cheers y'all
My mother and father in law were set to buy most of McCarthy in winter 1963/64, but after the earthquake, let all but two small cabins go back to the owner. We still have those cabins. They are across the street from the old hardware store.
I live near McCarthy. Been there a couple times and love the old time feel. Neil seems to be just a regular guy. McCarthy is a long drive but worth a visit though.
Wow I wish I could go. I'm tired of city living but I don't want to live in the bush. Just the country and be able to have done chickens and grow veggies.
@@therealsyxx Make it happen! 😉 Sometimes you just have to start taking the baby steps towards that goal and then before you know it BAM ..... chickens and veggies! 😁
As a Alaskan Native I find all these "reality" shows coming out of Alaska a bit silly. With exception to deadliest catch. Nothing silly about those men. I live way up north. I live a subsistence lifestyle, living right along with mother nature. I hunt and eat the seasons. And my sons are the same. Just because we have the ability to buy store bought food, does not mean it is a better way to live. In fact far from it. I am proud to know my freezer is filled with meat that my family harvested on their own. Once in awhile we like a good hamburger or tacos, but in my family we prefer caribou, whales and seals. Birds of all types. Buckets of frozen berries collected in the fall are a real treat. My favorite food to eat is bowhead whale. I am Inupiaq.
I respect people who live in Alaska, there are cities in Alaska and then there are people who live off the land… I myself would love living in Alaska, it’s loving the seasonal changes, snow, coldness, summer, darkness, and hunting to put food in the fridge… living in the wilderness has nothing to do with freedom…. Cause even in the wild you still have to work hard to live…
If you watch the show it disproves a bit of this video. Neil always had the investors... Then being a personal friend of Tim his statements are polar opposite of this video! Funny drama video here! Thanks for the bs!
This show, but also "Ice Lake Rebels" were just fun shows to watch. Maybe scripted here and there, but the people were genuine. It makes you even wonder why Alaska: the last frontier is still running, while the people on that show do sort of less the same. "Homesteading".
Always the ones wanting to chance the way small town life is! Instead of these type of people moving to a bigger area, they want to try to change what other people love so much about their community!! Leave things like they are…people live there for a reason!!!!! if you don’t wanna live in a small town community, then move!!
Hate how these Alaska shows make Bears seem like Jaws. They're mostly herbivores that want nothing to do with ppl. Ppl are a bigger threat to them than they are to ppl.
Great series but was mostly the keller Show. Keller is an idiot and possibly was jealous of Neil. Despite that, he seemed to be a great dad and husband.
I watched until the end. I'm no fool and I pretty much knew it was going to be a typical reality show. I did find the history of the McCarthy area very interesting. It's too bad that these dumbass tv producers can't just allow the real people and places to tell their authentic stories. We don't need all that fake, scripted crap to be interested in the residents. That's why I typically don't watch anything like this anymore. When tv producers stop treating viewers like idiots, I might start watching tv shows again.
It's amazing they could film it without getting any of the tour vans, the resort just up the road, the National Park personnel, outdoor outfitters (St Elias rock!), or... Oh yeah, all the tourists that raft the river, go to the hotel and National Park. Lol
I dont like the way Neil kept everything about him. A lot of those people that live there moved there to he away from the world. And I can understand that. Especially feeling how I feel right now living in Pennsylvania. I'm from New York. And Pennsylvania is 2 in a half hrs away. And the people fleeing NYC move to Pennsylvania. So 10 years later the people here are mostly from New York. And they mentality comes with them. I'm going further south then most New Yorkers are ready to go.
The way you pronounce Iditarod was ridiculous. Also many people still make a living off of fur trapping. Searching for truth on RU-vid is hard. As a 42 year resident of Alaska I find so much BS about Alaska on RU-vid.
While Neil was causing problems (he owned most of the town), Jeremy was the real asshole on the show. His homestead is 12 miles from McCarthy and he fought Neil at every turn. Why the townsfolk put up with his interference is beyond me.
Have u ever lived in the Country? Well people don't live next door to each other they live miles away from each other but it is still a community. Just because he lives 12 miles from town center means nothing it's not like how it is in the city...12 miles is close. Also people that move out in the Wilderness want to be away from alot of people they don't want their neighbors close to them. So that's why alot of people there don't want a bunch of outsiders coming in and changing their way of life. Jeremy did what he did and was more vocal because other people put him into that position because they didn't have the balls to step up to Neil so they appointed him yo that position....he's looking out for his family and friends in his community.
@@FloodlandX I grew up in the sticks-- no electricity, plumbing or running water. We lived 12 miles from the town where I went to school. We didn't interfere with the town politics because-like Jeremy- we were NOT part of the town. He's still an interfering asshole.
The scene where Jeremy just stomped into Neil’s closed store and rudely helped himself to supplies with no intention of paying Neil (he brought no money with him), solidified Jeremy’s position as the “Karen” of McCarthy.
I wish jeremy ( i Think that is his name) would just get over the fact that the town might grow nobody wants their town to grow but inevitably it happens he’d be a lot happier and so what his family if he stop whining and do something to improve his life instead of damage someone else’s he’s so annoying
I would imagine from the dreadful person Jeremy he ruins great program. The guy is sick. I stopped watching because infant stand the sick man. Thank you for the episodes we saw.
I bet Neil still lives in Jermey’s head rent free 24/7. It’s all he ever thinks about when he wakes up and dreams about.. Neil Neil Neil .. Jeremy sure loves that guy more then his wife
Listen I'm probably on the 6th episode and let me tell you the drama and the soap opera is what killed the show. But believe me nobody's going to ever want to move to that place cuz they're a bunch of lunatics
