Why did Dr. Umar Johnson leave ISLAM!? 

He worships his own skin colour and he doesn't even know it. I am Muslim, Somali and black and alhamdullilah for Islam.

No one leaves Islam for logical reasons, they leave it out of shear ignorance and/or personal desires. Once you know truth, how can you reject it?

He says that while speaking the language of the people who colonized his land and enslaved his people, what a joke.

As a Somali born in the UK, I have been asked numerous times why Somali people closer to Muslims than other black people. My answer is always my religion comes before my race 1000%

some people find it problematic that Arabic is hardwired to Islam, yet they have no issue with English becoming the second language of the world. Arabic is supposed to connect Muslims, and preserve the religion, just look at what translation did to the new testament.

Not overly interested in "Arabic culture" per se. Islam is about Knowledge of Allah and of Self. It's not about monoculture. It's about faith. My Arabic language is poor but improving. I can read the Quran in English, pray in Arabic and English. My wife is Ghanaian incidentally.

It was the character of the Muslims that our people interacted with, which made our people invite them to the whole West Africa. Our people were just fighting amongst ourselves. Maybe his own black religion is the one in America. I don't believe he will be able to fit in the African culture religion.

That’s so idiotic. I’m a white Brazilian and could claim also that Islam/Muslims don’t talk about the issues of whites / Brazilians… except that it does!! Once you become a Muslim and learn Islam, it is easy to realize that different problems for different peoples are found in different teachings of Islam. I am Arab, and yet that's not a guarantee that I can fully understand or appreciate the Qur'an in all its glory, since Quranic Arabic (classical) is a lot different from MSA (modern standard Arabic) and colloquial Arabic. Classical Arabic has many constructions that doesn't exist in other Arabic forms and it has a very rich vocabulary that even educated Arabs often need to look up words in the dictionary.

Emotional intelligence will make you accept Islam but when you start being a racist then you will find mistakes in Islam. God the Creator chose Arabic as the language He will reveal His last revelation, however Islam teaches to help everyone regardless their skin colour. Islam says we all the same humans from Adam and Eve and we should not focus on skin color problems but instead we ought to emphasise on real issues facing all the different communities from abuse, poverty, economic inequality, racism, narcissistic toxic traits, disbelief in God, and all the major issues like drug and alcohol addition.

This is a really good topic to cover, Allah reward you. It is a struggle to maintain dignity when there are many Muslims who disgrace you because of your colour and they are practicing Muslims but they still have this jahiliyah. I feel protected 24/7 as a Muslim, knowing almighty allah is with me all the time, and I remember him ad much as I can. I can't even fathom leaving islam for a sec let alone forever for silly reason like he mentioned. I grew up in Bangladesh where 90 percent of the population is Muslim and we certainly aren't Arab and no one is forced to wear arab clothing and following arab culture. Yes we learn basic Arabic so that we can learn and recite quran and that's about it, I even self thought myself because I never learned how to recite quran properly.

Assalamu Alaikum brother, Jazakallahu Khair covering this topic 😊. I think this is a great example of what happens when one does not prioritize gaining and growing in their Islamic knowledge. Because if this was the case, Dr. Umar Johnson (Allahu ‘Alim) would have not been likely to leave the Deen. I will say, being a Muslim of African American background, that his experiences are not too unfamiliar. I have observed people from certain cultures who equate their piety or their Islamic “legitimacy” on the bases of their ethnicity alone (i.e. for example, a sister who doesn’t observe hijab will get plenty of Salaams because she’s Pakistani/Arab/Turkish/etc. but a African American/Caribbean adhering to full hijab will still be asked “oh! Are you a Muslim?”). Additionally, as Dr. Johnson stated, there is sometimes a lot of hesitancy when dealing with specific issues/matters that involve certain demographics in our local Ummah, as opposed to other demographics that usually are from overseas - it also gives the impression that dealing with solely overseas issues is the only “legitimate” Islamic cause while all other issues are separate. I think a remedy to this could be in our communities realizing that the Ummah is not only for specific ethnicities. The Ummah could literally be anywhere there is a Muslim. I believe the racial/cultural categorization of the U.S. has directly contributed to this idea and image that Islam is “foreign” and that it only arrive with the previous generation of Muslim Immigrants, hence the attitudes of some people in our local Ummah. However, once we realize at heart level that Islam is meant for ALL nations and tribes this shouldn’t be an issue InshaAllah. With my journey so far, Alhamdullilah I have the privilege of being so in depth with my knowledge that instances like the ones above do not sway me - and InshaAllah never will. I always say that as long as you are the best Muslim you can be, everything else shall follow. Like the brother said, Islam didn’t come to eradicate your culture but to beautify and bring out the best in our cultures. So if you are a Muslim Indonesian woman, you will be the best Muslim, the best Indonesian, the best woman there is under the shade of Islam. I think if Dr. Johnson realized that, he would happily return to the Deen InshaAllah.

That argument is illogical. Revelation has to be understood by mankind and that requires using language. Allah (saw), with his infinite wisdom chose Arabic. I'm not Arab. Making a fuss about it not being revealed in your language is because of your ego.

Most Muslims are not Arabs, but non-Arabs, and Islam is a universal message. The Prophet Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, was sent by God to all people.

Muslim clothes is different with Arabs clothes. Before prophet Muhammad SAW came, Arab women were not covered. They were the object by the men, was treat as belonging without any rights. Islam came and elevated women's right. We covered ourselves to avoid to become the object of sexuality, where women will be judge by their body and appearance. We have our own right for our money and heritance, we dont change our name following husband's name, etc. We are muslim still can wear our own traditional robes by following the rules that set up for us by Allah. Interestingly, that is similar to the reason Satan turned away from Islam after following it. Allah had ordered that Adam (as) become the Khailfiah. Satan did not want to accept no mud creation as the leader. Also , Adam was most likely black. So Dr. Umar is following a guy who loatches a black man. He claimed that Muslims are racist as there was no narration prophetic from Bilal. I replied to him the famous narration of sandals of Bilal ahead of our beloved prophet. He was speechless. This man Omar speaks English, is it a black language? What black heritage does he carry? Yes, one must learn Arabic to become a true Muslim which unify us all.

I think he also needed to study more about Hazrat Bilal and his relationship to God and Rasool Pak and high place he had.

He is ignorant about Africa history that he claims. The African continent and Arabia are geographically adjacent. There was a long history of interaction between people via trade or migration. Today, there are millions of Africans of Arab descent and vice versa. Arabs and Africans are inseparable.

African spirituality is a made up concept. There's no such thing. Africans living in the same country are so diverse let alone throughout the entire continent. It's just relabeled Paganism religion.
