Why Did God Allow Marriage with Multiple Women in the Bible? Biblical History
Welcome to Bible Stories, your go-to channel for exploring the rich and fascinating themes and narratives from the scriptures. If you're passionate about understanding the deeper meanings behind Biblical events and teachings, you're in the right place. Our mission is to delve into the profound wisdom contained in the Bible, bringing you insights that can illuminate your faith journey and enhance your understanding of God's Word. Today, we're embarking on a thought-provoking exploration of a topic that has intrigued scholars and believers alike for centuries: polygamy in the Bible. Polygamy, or the practice of having multiple spouses, is a subject that often raises questions and debates. Why was it permitted in the Old Testament? How did it align with God's design for marriage? What can we learn from the historical and cultural contexts that surrounded this practice? These are just a few of the questions we'll be addressing in this video. By examining the stories of Biblical figures like Abraham, David, and Solomon, and looking at the laws given to the Israelites, we aim to uncover the reasons behind God's tolerance of polygamy in ancient times. As we delve into this topic, we'll consider the societal norms and challenges of the times, the impact of polygamy on family dynamics, and the transition from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant brought by Jesus Christ. We'll also reflect on what the Bible teaches us about the ideal model of marriage according to God's design.

Lord Jesus, teach me to love unconditionally, as You have loved us. Fill my heart with compassion for those who are suffering, and inspire me to be a vessel of Your grace and mercy in the world.

Lord, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Help me to trust in Your divine plan and surrender to Your will.

The bible also provides us with history. Just because it happened, doesn't mean God approved it. God was quite clear. One woman, one man. That's it. People disobey God all the time.

God DID NOT approve of polygamy, divorce, adultery and such like. However, He intended for it to be 1 MALE and FEMALE female to be husband and wife. He showed us an example through Adam and Eve. . Notice, God created only ONE (1) wife for Adam. And that was Eve.

The sabbath is clearly stipulated in the old and new testament the new and old covenant have the same foundation the 10 commandments in the old testament they were written by the finger of God on tables of stone, in the new testament they are written in our hearts sin is still the transgression of the law .

Why did God allow polygamy, for the Israelites to have multiple wives ? Because after the rebellion in the garden of Eden some 6,000 years ago, he handed the reins of the "world" of wicked mankind over to "the serpent", Satan the Devil. Satan, in trying to bribe Jesus with the biggest bribe ever, of all the kingdoms of the inhabited earth for just one act of worship, told Jesus that "I will give you all this authority and their glory, because it has been handed over to me (which Jesus was fully aware of, for Jesus was the representative angel that talked to Adam and Eve in the garden of Eden and led the nation of Israel out of Egypt, Ex 3:1-4, 1 Cor 10:1-4, and sat down and spoke to David, see 2 Sam 7:18-29) , and I give it to whomever I wish. If you, therefore, do an act of worship before me, it will all be yours.", to which Jesus refused.(Luke 4:5-8) Five "generations" down from Adam, "Lamech took two wives for himself."(Gen 4:19) From then on, the taking of multiple wives became an accepted practice, though not mentioned any more until Genesis 6, when "sons of the true God (or angels) began to notice that the daughters of men were beautiful." "So they began taking as wives ALL whom they chose" hundreds of years before the Global Deluge in 2370 B.C.E., greatly adding to the wickedness on the earth, especially by the materialized angels fathering the Nephilim or "giants" ("Nephilim, meaning "Those Who Cause Others to Fall Down" in death), so that "Jehovah (God's name, see Isa 12:2, KJV) said: “My spirit will not tolerate man indefinitely, because he is only flesh. Accordingly, his days will amount to 120 years.”(Gen 6:1-4) Jude wrote: "And the angels who did not keep their original position but forsook their own proper dwelling place, he has reserved with eternal bonds in dense darkness for the judgment of the great day. In the same manner, Sodʹom and Go·morʹrah and the cities around them also gave themselves over to gross sexual immorality (as did the rebel angels) and pursued unnatural fleshly desires; they are placed before us as a warning example by undergoing the judicial punishment of everlasting fire."(Jude 6, 7) So, when Jehovah God gave the Mosaic Law covenant to the nation of Israel in 1513 B.C.E., the having of more than one wife had become an accepted practice, whereby instead of removing it at that time, he regulated it, as at Deuteronomy 21:15-17: "If a man has two wives and he loves one more than the other and both have borne sons to him and the firstborn son belongs to the unloved one, on the day that he gives his inheritance to his sons, he will not be allowed to treat the son of the loved one as his firstborn at the expense of the son of the unloved one, the firstborn." "He should recognize as the firstborn the unloved one’s son by giving him the double portion of everything he has, for that one is the beginning of his procreative power. The right of the firstborn’s position belongs to him." During the time of the judges, Gideon had multiple wives, fathering 70 sons.(Judges 9:1, 2) And Jephthath was born through a prostitute, in which his father Gilead also had sons by his wife.(Judges 11:1, 2) By the time of King Saul (reigned 1117-1078 B.C.E.), in addition to having multiple wives, men also had female concubines, as secondary wives, basically for sexual purposes, such as Rizpah, Saul's concubine, who gave birth to Armoni and Mephibosheth (not the Mephibosheth of Saul's son, Jonathan).(2 Sam 21:7, 8) David acquired multiple wives, so that while reigning in Hebron for 7 years and 6 months, he had 6 wives.(2 Sam 3:2-5) But upon moving into Jerusalem, "David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem after he came from Hebʹron, and more sons and daughters were born to David."(2 Sam 5:13) And everyone has surely heard of Solomon having 700 wives and 300 concubines.(1 Kings 11:1-3) Solomon's son Rehoboam had "18 wives and 60 concubines, and he became father to 28 sons and 60 daughters."(2 Chron 11:21) The practice of multiple wives had "gotten out of hand". So, when Jesus arrived as the promised Messiah from 29-33 C.E., he "set the record straight" of a man having only ONE wife, telling the Pharisees who asked if a man could "divorce his wife on every sort of grounds": "Have you not read (at Gen 2:24) that the one who created them from the beginning made them male and female and said: " " ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and his mother and will stick to his wife (singular, NOT plural), and the two (and NOT three or four or five) will be one flesh’ ? So that they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has yoked together, let no man put apart.”(Matt 19:3-6) Thus, with Jesus arrival as "the Christ of God" (Luke 9:20), Jesus brought back the original standard of marriage (Gen 2:18-24), of one man as a husband with one woman as his wife, for true Christians.(see 1 Tim 3:2)

Only women from within the 12 tribes of Israel. Not polygamy. Polyamory only was allowed. Nothing has changed. See Isaiah 4:1.
