You told us that the mill is actually a Grizzly. Is it the CNC the system that Grizzly supplies with their new CNC Mills or is it a manual mill with a CNC upgrade. It looks like a fresh paint job too. I like it. Plus, I noticed the HMI(Human Machine Interface) It appears that the previous owner put a lot of thought into it. I've always wanted a small mill. Congrats.

Hey, when youre tapping your part down onto your parallels, if you use a deadblow instead it will work better. Using other hammers causes a shockwave that runs down the column of the machine, hits the floor and travels right and back up in the opposite direction, usually it actually lifts the part a bit. Deadblow sends the force in one direction only, down. Hope that helps!

Very cool Ryan. We do all the engraving on the stuff I make with a CNC mill... You can etch anodizing with a fairly cheap laser but it turns it white vs alum color. I can already tell, you are going to love having that mill.

I used to run a CNN pin mill with a gantry every day. I estimated it cost about $500k. It had 5 axes and milled one crankshaft at a time. Cool.

Center drills work really good for Engraving and they come in a lot of different sizes. Get high speed steel though. carbide chips to easy, unless you got a spindle capable of 5000 RPM or more

You need that much coolaint for aluminum?
@Shopbuilt
@Shopbuilt 6 лет назад
its all about chip evacuation, re cutting chips can stick to your cutter, aluminum is very gummy. also really helps with surface finish. you really can't have enough, they actually recommend more than i'm using, especially with aluminum.

So after you get done with all the upgrades to the DIY mill, are you going to wonder why you didn't buy a complete CNC mill straight away?
@1pcfred
@1pcfred 6 лет назад
A lot of mini mill owners eventually upgrade to real machining centers.
@Shopbuilt
@Shopbuilt 6 лет назад
probably, but your still looking at 10 grand Canadian(with all the accessories) for a 440 tormach which is about the same size. maybe some day i'll be able to afford something better but this is great for now.
