I use Amsoil in my wife's car and after about 12,000 miles on the oil, i changed it and sent it to the lab to be checked, they said i could have gone about 2-3,000 miles more on the XL oil. I now use the Signature series in her car and my Ford Pick Up 350.

I do 1 oil change a year on all my vehicles with Amsoil Signature, even as a AMSOIL Dealer I shop with my preferred account for a better deal. Changing your oil every 5K is a Massive waste of oil and money. It’s been proven that oil will easily go 15 to 20k. There is a guy in Florida with 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4.0L V6 with 565K miles and changes his oil every 12k miles with AMSOIL XL oil. He pulled the head and valve cover off and showed the wear it was simply amazing to see.

12,000 on the oil might be ok if you run the vehicle fully warmed up on each drive. Short trips and heavy throttle will degrade the oil.

I change my Honda Engine Oil every 5000 miles no matter what brand I use. And the car is running for 15 years now with no engine issues except for a misfire because of 1 faulty ignition coil at 160K miles and a faulty fuel oil pump at 120K miles.

Noticed that you said a couple of times that the magnet caught metal that the filter did not stop. The oil flows through the outside of the filter then comes out the center hole into the engine. It is important never to poke a hole in a plastic wrap filter, by sticking your finger in the center hole. A fellow learned the hard way, when a cylinder failed in his Cummins Diesel engine. They would not give him warranty when they discovered that the tiny oil passage that lubricated that cylinder was plugged by a piece of plastic. They said the plastic came from the owner making the mistake mentioned above. I was glad to hear from someone else's mistake, because I had often done the same thing, assuming that the oil flows into the center hole.

Magnets do keep the filter element cleaner so why not.... I would dare say important if you run budget filters and oil. IMO, never skimp out on quality oil and filter...

You are right with both things. You said he did say to put it on the outside of the can. But you are correct, it doesn't catch what the filter element missed, it catches it before the filter element. Because you are correct. The oil does come in through the outside and then up through the middle.

Some of these people making videos are lacking in knowledge. I still very much appreciate them making a video. Trapping particles in an oil filter is ok until the driver runs the oil too long and floors the pedal to the metal. The safety-bypass valve opens and allows the junk to flow straight to the bearings. Another reason to keep the engine clean inside.

6 months, 5,000 miles, regardless of which synthetic I choose. Right now I run Mobil 1 Extended Performance. It’s says it goes for 20,000 miles, but I still change it at 5k or 6 months. Pennzoil Platinum is another I’ve used and same thing.

I've also run Mobil 1 for decades and recently watched Project Farm's oil test. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and Amsoil were both tied for #1 with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum being cheaper so I'm switching my Toyota to Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. Mobil 1 did well in the test, just not as well as those.

@@nostradamus7648 I switched to pensoil platinum and a TRD oil filter right before I went on vacation this year. The oil was so clear I could hardly read the stick until 2k miles. Now I'm at 5500 miles and I would normally think about changing my oil but it still honey color , I know oil color doesn't mean much but I know normally at 5k it's got a dark color to it. I don’t know if it’s the oil or the TRD oil filter but it’s definitely a lot cleaner than it normally is I will probably push this one to seven or 8K before changing. Maybe a little longer because I know that the first few thousand where purely highway miles

@@thetechlibrarian I honestly wouldn’t push it much past 7500. Also, I noticed in my notes I said Pennzoil Platinum instead of Ultra Platinum. It’s the Ultra Platinum you want. Remember, oil is cheaper than a new engine. Plus, I’d suggest your transmission fluid change every 60K with full synthetic like Amsoil Transmission fluid or BG Transmission fluid.

Condensation / moisture infiltrates oil ... even though the miles are low on the oil ....the moisture will degrade the oil along with gas dilution ... you're spot on

you mean moisture is water water will evaporate after you turn the engine it will go away. the oil is resistant to heat but water not it will turn into steam or vapor and it will go away, but the oil will not go it will stay there. if you are changing your Amsoil every 4k to 5k miles you are literally throwing your money away in the trashcan.

I do my oil changes every 5000 miles, I’ve used Castrol full synthetic, Mobile1, Valvoline full synthetic, Royal Purple, and Amsoil OE oil, the Amsoil is in it now I just had to ad a quart of oil after only 44800 miles, the Royal Purple oil was still full at 5000 miles, all I’m saying is different engines react to different oils differently, any full synthetic oil is going to be way better than a synthetic blend oil or even a conventional oil.

I've ran a set of the Duel Filter Mags on my last 3 cars and there is no question they work and work very well. I use Amsoil Signature Series, Royal Purple or Fram Ultra filters and change the oil every 5000 to 7000 miles. I can see what they're pulling out every single change. Worth every penny IMO

Just changed the oil in my 2010 Jeep Wrangler. 12,450 miles on the oil. I run Signature Series Amsoil 5W30 with their Ea oil filters. Per Amsoil, this oil is good for 15k miles (severe service) to 25k (normal service) or once a year, which ever comes first. I also run the engine/transmission flush preceeding the oil change. Jeep now has 104,600 miles on it and I am the 4th owner. Amsoil is the best!

Yep, used to do Castrol GTX every 3k for 30 years. Finally tried Mobil1 and stick with that every 4-5k. It’s great. All other fluids are Amsoil in every vehicle I own. After a rebuild first oil ran is Amsoil.

'95 Honda Accord LX - At around 10K miles, I parked the car on low ramp and drained the oil in the garage at 8AM but I didn't open the hood. Around noon my wife didn't notice the ramp, drove it for over a mile to a salon, then drove back home. This was August in Arizona, so the AC was on full-blast. I filled the oil, the car ran a little noisy than before, but I broke-in and replaced the oil 1000 miles later. The noise was gone. Never had any problem thereafter except a small leak at the distribution timing shaft seal, but seal replacement fixed it. I finally gave it to my brother at 170K 20+ years later, and he drove it for several years before selling. It was incredible engine. I used only synthetic. Oil change, once a year.

My 2016 civic 1.5 turbo has 200K miles on it I switch from 0w-20 to amsoil 5w-30 signature at 36K miles I do use best line oil additive every oil change and I change the oil every 12K miles. I’ve never had fuel in the oil dilution which this engine is known for or any other engine problems . I also use amsoil cvt oil every 15K miles and I’ve never had a problem with the transmission either . I do about 50/50 city and highway driving . The last time I had an engine oil analysis done was 176K by blackstone labs and they said I could go another 3,000 on the oil if I wanted to .

I’m sure that Amsoil and Mobil have tested their oils for extended change intervals very thoroughly, however I would personally not leave ANY oil in my car for 20 or 25K miles. I would rather have clean Castrol or Valvoline synthetic than dirty Amsoil or Royal Purple.

The ferrous material collected by the magnet didn't necessarily "get by" the filter. They may have been generated in the engine, washed into the pan, then drawn in, and pumped to the filter. The particles were captured by the magnet on the outside (inlet side) of the filter material. Oil flows through filter from the outside toward the inside.

Except oil enters the filter through the holes in the perimeter of the filter, goes through the filter media, and comes out of the center hole. The metal you caught on the magnets never made it to the filter media.

This is only true if someone uses magnets from the moment the car has zero miles / zero time on the motor. If I add magnets to my filter for the first time at 10,000 miles, any particles that the magnet catches DID in fact get by the filter. Unless those particles were magically generated at the moment the magnets were installed, then the only logical reasoning is that the particles have passed through the filter media prior to magnet installation.

Yeah project farm's tests were ok, but not highly scientific ok. I was surprised Mobil & some others didn't test that good. The penz was good, but Amsoil Signature Series is better, all I ever use. I have inside information on a snowmobile/ATV manufacturer's engineering dept in my area tested Amsoil's 0W40 4 cycle power sports oil in a snowmobile engine and they were amazed!

@ Nostradamus,, ---> it is O.k to be wrong in public. No, the best Pennzoil Platinum scores less than Amsoil with real data. PP scores less in wear scars, cannot go 25,000 miles like Amsoil, and towards the end of the life of the oil, it is no-longer a 5w-30 . As an example Mobile 1 was tested at 6000miles and its viscosity thickened 36%. So run a “7w-30” , or worse, in winter too. Amsoil keeps its viscosity and this cannot be said for even the Pennzoil Platinum. The best is the best which is Amsoil and letting your oil change interval “stretch on it will not ruin your engine. Read my other post....don’t bother with full synthetics etc... go with 100% synthetic. I have no regrets or engine repairs even after 22 years of Amsoil. It is in fact the best, by far, for so many reasons. Research more on Amsoil. Thank You Amsoil.

@@andreplante214 Absolutely agree with you! AMSOIL synthetics are not made from magnetic titanium magic full unicorn horn gas. But they are man made true chemically synthesized 100% synthetic premium lubricants without the undesirable traits that many other lubricants have. API, Dexos etc specs are just minimum specs. AMSOIL doesn't concern themselves with just so barley meeting a minimum spec. AMSOIL being a privately held company doesn't have shareholders and board members demanding the maximum profit for the least cost. So they are free to formulate their lubricants to far exceed any minimum specifications by using the best components irregardless of the cost to formulate the best lubricants possible! That's what enthusiasts, gearheads and people in the know want and is why we pay for AMSOIL's premium 100% synthetic lubricants that can provide the best protection and go the distance too. At least some of us do! Hah!

I use Amsoil in everything. Engines run better period. I switched my snowblower over to 0w-30 signature and man did it change how it ran. ATVs also perked up from the 5w-50 I put in them as well. It is one of only two 100% synthetics on the market and I haven't found an oil that is better and I have been using synthetic oil since the early 90s.

I agree with you on the once a year oil change given your set of circumstances. You don't run many miles on it and like you said it's a lot of stop and go city driving, which is harder on the oil and the engine than lots of freeway driving. With that Amsoil, yes you could go to 8,000 miles but even Amsoil gets dirty and contaminated like all oils do. I change my oil about every 4 months or so, usually at 5,000 miles. I use whatever full synthetic is on sale at Walmart along with a Motorcraft filter. Never had any problems. Both my cars are over 250k miles and almost 20 years old.

I have always used Magnets on the exterior of my Filters on my cars and my motorcycles. It absolutely helps. The proof is right before your eyes and it doesn’t hurt. It can only help if it catches the Ferrous metals. I use the extremely Strong N52 Neodymium from KJ Magnetics 👍

I have the same engine on my 2005 4runner. I don't use it much. Probably around 5000 miles a year or less and uses amsoil. I changed the oil after 2 years and it was okay. I am now doing it every 10000 miles or 2 years now.

AMSOIL is great stuff, especially their Signature Series and their filters, it's all I use. In a pinch I will use a Wix XP filter, they're pretty good but like most all other filters don't filter as well or stand up as long. All manufacturers recommend a minimum of once a year oil changes no matter what the mileage is. Unless you do oil analysis to find out the remaining TBN = acid neutralizing ability left of the additive package and or use a bypass filter setup. Acids from the byproducts of combustion are very damaging. I have it on good authority a snowmobile/ATV manufacturer's engineering dept in my area tested AMSOIL's 0W40 4 cycle Power sports oil in a snowmobile and they were amazed.

With the stop-and-go, chances of condensation and dilution, I will not go longer than 6mos. With stop-and-go, 5,000 is actually not "not a lot of miles". If the oil was sampled every six months, I'd feel comfortable going longer, but compared to that cost, a change is cheaper. So, change it! No way in hell will I go longer than 5,000 ....and guess what direct injected engines have? Added risk of dilution!!! I had 1.6% on my 2018 Camry LE during the winter resulting in a call for Chevron Techron and greater avoidance of generic gas. Grateful for Lake Speed Jr AKA The Motor Oil Geek and his summary report via Speediagnostix. Penn ultra platinum with a Mobil filter all the way. I attribute that combo with getting 43mpg on a 2007 civic with 402,000miles on it.

I agree with never letting it goes over a year on an oil change on a vehicle that is lightly used. Extended periods for oil changes ( 10k and over) are only for vehicles that do mostly highway driving with light loads

don't oil filters actually filter going to the inside? So wouldn't your magnet pick up ferrous metal prior to going through the filter?

I see a serious oil change addiction. I gave up oil changes in 1963 with Standard Delo 100 30 weight and a toilet paper filter. In those days I changed the toilet paper and added a quart of Delo about every 2.000 miles. I go 6.000 miles now..I may change the oil on a used car I buy .Had to change oil and replace a head gasket once.

Your magnets are stopping nothing. The oil flows from the outside of the filter into the center hole and then into the engine. The fine particles you trapped have not made it thru the filter, they were in the oil direct from the sump/oil pump.

I think the point is that any particulate stuck to the can with the magnets is that much less the filter has to deal with. In turn the filter stays cleaner longer to filter other debris. This really needs several magnets around the outside to work it's best.

Problem with magnet what I had experienced with, I was using a small neodymium under the filter in my mazda cx5 and I realized some weird engine noise which gone right after I pulled the magnet off. I am assuming the magnet was messing up the oil filter's bypass valve. It depends on what kind of designed the bypass valve is and the magnet was definitely changing psi rating of my bypass valve cause unusual valve open and close I believed. After that experienced I have stopped using magnet on my oil filter. I'm just sharing what I had experienced with magnet with oil filter.🙂

People piss and moan all the time about frequencies of oil changes. I was a mechanic back in the 80's and 90's and can tell you oils were crap back then. Pull the valve covers off and see nothing but sludge and paraffin wax buildup. When Mobil 1 came out for Corvettes it was 4.11 a quart while conventional were like 1.69. 3,000 mile changes were the norm. Oils are sooooooo much better now days that going 5 to 10 thousand is ok. More frequent changes are great of course but you should never need to use a flush especially if you've had the vehicle since new and no it's history.

AmsOil is by far the best street performance oil that you can get. I usually mix in 2 quarts of the diesel oil with 4 quarts of the high mile 5w30 in my CTS since the diesel blend has more detergents and lasts longer under heavy abuse. Engine flush every 3-4 changes just to keep stuff from evaporating and building up a film or slime on the internal components.

I use Amsoil Signature 5w-20 or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-20 for oil. Amsoil and Liqui Moly everything else. Amsoil makes a ton of good products and they sure aren't "snake oil". lol

On the outside of the filter housing is not “past the filter”. The filter is out to in. So your magnet caught some material BEFORE the filter, not after.

That's not ferrous material that "got through the filter", that's ferrous material that never got TO the filter. Nothing wrong with that, but you're a little off in your thought process. I use magnets myself, as it helps the filter stay cleaner longer as well as gives you an idea of how much your engine is wearing by cutting the filter open and seeing how much metal is there.

Engine oil is not like gasoline or petrol, it will not become less effective sitting in the engine over a year. There's a recent study indicating that engine oil is safe and doesn't require changing frequently if your car is sitting.

Mobile one full synthetic every 3 to 5 thousand miles depending on the heat and load. The oil can lubricate for high mileage but the blow by from combustion makes it dirty. Cold starting is mostly what puts wear on your average engine. The longer you run oil with out changing it the more likely you'll get suspended carbon and metal in your bearing surfaces. Oil gets recycled now for reuse, crazy.

A bypass filter will work much better than a magnet on the oil can. Also, the can is steel which disburses the magnetic lines of flux. The magnet will work better inside the filter, or use a magnetic drain plug. Draining the oil early after using a flush is smart and necessary for longest engine life. You can use 4 quarts of cheaper oil and one quart of Amsoil for this. This will rinse off what the flush loosens. An oil based fuel additive will help clean the piston rings during this process. This is not a new idea I just came up with. Been doing this for 46 years now. Exceptional maintenance and Amsoil products will result in the engine lasting as long or longer than the vehicle.

I tried the OE in substitute of my Pennzoil Platinum one time, as my EX had 6 Quarts that was going to go into her old car that ended up getting Totaled. Anyway soon as I put it, my Engine got noisy. And about one week after I did a Dry Start and it literally sounded like a key was being turned while the Engine was on. Every Dry Start was now sounding like that, so I instantly replaced it back to my Pennzoil Platinum. Even for about a week after making the switch back over to Platinum it was still sounding like that occasionally,maybe some of the Amsoil was left over,but now that sound is completely gone .

It sounds to me that when you changed your oil, you installed a bad oil filter, with a defective anti drain back valve. Every time you started your engine, you had a dry start. Next time change the filter immediately when this happens, not your fault

The issue with magnet is that they're placed on the unfiltered side, of course they will catch iron particles, it's unfiltered. The center of the oil filter is the filtered side. It goes outside - in.

My 600 hour generators got magnetic drain plugs. Fuzz first change. Then only a black dot on wipe rag. Syn blend 10w40 at 1000 hours! One pull starts. Lucas gas conditioner and 50/50 syn blend and full syn. Same brand. 100 hour changes. Golden brown at change. It works! 50 years experience and all my engines are one second starterz! Lol

On the Ford boss me channel he says he doesn’t care what any oil manufacturer says. he’s a master tech at Ford, and he says after 5000 miles your oil is not protecting like it’s supposed to, regardless of what any manufacture or oil company says. I use Amsoil signature series and change it every 5000 miles. 3.5 L twin turbo. That oil is shot, smells like fuel and is dirt black every time I change it at 5000.

Okay, 22 years using Amsoil. I change it 11,000 miles to 14000., at 11 months with 39% “only” of the 700hrs “WHICHEVER COMES FIRST” does it protect your engine? Hell yes! Why?-->my 200,000+ miles car was brought to TERMINAL VELOCITY 6 to 7 times after it turned 200,000. Funny thing is I kick down on average once a month, just beat the chit outta my current vehicle, like all my previous rides and seals gaskets hold. One time a “valve cover oem” because like I’m saying I cook the motor a lot. BTW, always passed air-care , zero engine work on none of my past vehicles! Not one pumped oil.... started using Amsoil approx 35,000 on all my second hand cars. Another “ BTW”, my cars were not Toyota/Honda. AMSOIL WORTH EVERY PENNY “if you change it yourself” Also, put the high end blue $16.00 per litre transmission fluid in . With this combination, abuse your ride at will. Know and feel it being faster too. Here is a cool thing I’m going to mention, 0 to 60 manuf times are usually a lie because they remove all weight like fuel, spare tire, rugs and use a 41 Kg mini Gishah Girl driver. My current car did 2 tenths of a second faster than manuf time with the rugs, spare, kids car seats, booster cables, 1/2 tank and I’m 85 KG. Keep your ride a long time with basic other maintenance and Amsoil fluids....

When I flushed mine I replaced the oil with a really budget El'cheapo oil then the filter with a El'cheapo. I then ran it up to operating temperature then added the engine oil flush running it for 15 minutes. Reason for this is for the traping of the carbon etc that's cleared out.

When one adds arrogance with stupidity, we get all kinds of misleading thoughts from those at large. Filters, filter from the OUTSIDE in ! So your analysis is completely wrong. Your engine is obviously shedding ferrous parts and they would have gone into the filter media. Filter media performance is measured in microns. If you stack them high enough one can see them. Your shade tree analysis of the filter is of no use as the filter would have caught them.

Plus you can’t guarantee that it won’t damage seals or gaskets and American made snake oil “Amsoil “ will never admit their product caused damage. But every car manufacturer will tell you that using an engine flush will void your warranty.

Those are both superior brands. The red color is ok as long as the oil and filter are clean. The oil should be fairly transparent on the dipstick.

No it's not. Combustion gas is very acidic ,which is something most people are unaware of that do these videos or comment on them. One of my friends argued with me because he drives his truck less than 2000 miles a year and gets it changed every 18 months or so. Well I griped at him so much he finally had an oil analysis done at his last oil change. Guess what??!!! The lab report said the oil was very acidic and it's lubrication qualities were very diminished. So the lab testing confirms what I suspected and my friend was pissed off once again that I was right about something automotive, again. Lol

Combustion gases was very acidic in the 70s and 80s, isn't very acidic on todays no sulphur gasolines. Not that much as you say, it isnt a 1800 ppm diesel, its a 10 ppm gasoline now ... Don't you know my engine oil has 10 TBN of base number reserve? Yeah you don't...

@@oneninerniner3427 same thing. Turns out 100% synthetic and full synthetic are the same thing. Apparently, Amsoil may be a 100% blend of group 3 and group 4 base stock just like full synthetics are. Pursuant to a 1990’s law suit between Castrol and Mobil 1, courts ruled that group 3 and 4 base oils are synthetic, therefore any oil that contains one or both of those groups, regardless of proportions, can be called synthetic. So as long as Amsoil contains group 3, even if it’s 100% group 3, they can legally call it 100% synthetic. Thus, 100% synthetic and full synthetic are synonymous. Amsoil admitted this in one of their own blogs.

@@JohnnyUtah9173 yeah, but no, AMSOIL Signature Series is a 100% group IV PAO with some group V Ester real true synthetic as it used to be before the debacle between Castor & Mobil. It is a true man made chemically synthesized pure PAO base with some Ester, we believe! AMSOIL used to toute their premium oils as being a PAO base. Their other oils the XL and especially the OE probably have some group III severely refined hydrocracked petroleum base synthetics in them. As what the API and the industry now allows to be called synthetic. They won't say as well as all the other companies won't say exactly what is in their oils and lubricants. It proprietary information they all say! Ok? The problem is that after the deal with Castrol & Mobil and the API allowing group III highly refined hydrocracked petroleum based oils to be called synthetic is that it's only a marketing term now for a lot of those companies! It's even been found that some of those so called full synthetics contain large amounts of group II conventional oils in them, unfortunately for us. But Mobil warned them that would happen and they were right. You can kind of tell by the price, just how much good synthetic are you really getting for $3-4-5 bucks a quart? Not much I dare say! And its also been found that most of those semi or synthetic blends most likely contain only 15% or less synthetic! All that said anyway, all those group III petroleum base synthetics oils are in fact better than conventional oils, but they don't really perform up to the standards a true premium synthetic can imho!
