Hey Poppy! I was the one who asked the Peanut Question (@gsjj05). Thanks for the advice! It seems like there are cards available which seems like an amazing idea. Hopefully I will grow out of my allergy soon so I can explore more of the world! Thanks so much for the advice!
George Julias I really concern it's gonna out of control, you know there are a few people speak English well in China ,if issues occurred ,it even would be life-threaten issue ,even Chinese wanna help you, however language barrier would be a problem ,I really strongly recommend you stay in your comfort zone
George Julias Hi, you might want to print this out and take it with you if you ever decide to visit China: 1. Chinese: 我对花生高度过敏!!!不能吃任何花生制品(包括花生油), 也不能吃任何有可能接触过花生的食物。 English: I’m highly allergic to peanuts!!! And I can’t consume any products made with peanuts including peanut oil, or any food that may have come in to contact with peanuts. (The reason I mentioned peanut oil is that in China sometimes some people cook with peanut oil.) 2. If you do have an allergic reaction to peanuts, print this out and show someone so that when the ambulance arrives, they will know what your problem is. Chinese: 我可能吃了含有花生的食物,我对花生高度过敏!!!请诊断时参考。 English: I might have eaten some food that contains a peanut product, which I’m highly allergic to!!! So please consider this whenever you treat me. If I end up saving your life here is my email address: dhrbdjsnsiw*}^\^ 37:/283-]>]#gamil.com so you can PayPal me some money to show your appreciation Haha Ps you can call 120 for an ambulance in mainland China.
Thank you for being in China for the long time and always spreading the positive things of China to the world. Best wishes for you and everything in Bali!
I'm so excited to hear you're not done with China and I'm even more excited to hear you want to go to Yunnan. After your last video in China I wanted to suggest you visit Kunming and Dali in Yunnan. I did a study abroad in a small city in Yunnan called Chuxiong, and all those cities were really close to each other and Yunnan has such amazing natural beauty to offer, along with a very diverse population. The Stone Forest and the Caves where Jackie Chan filmed "The Myth" in Kunming are breathtaking, and Dali has fantastic sites plus great bartering sites. I got my favorite Jade bracelet from Dali for 7RMB. They always start their bartering at 10 or 20 Rmb, and you just need to always counter with 5. Make it clear you're willing to walk away after 7 and they always give in. Haha. Anyways, sorry for the long rant, good luck in Bali and I hope you visit Kunming and Dali in the future!
When I visited Dali the first time I wanted to live there forever :D You can find a nice apartment with a view of the lake on one side and the mountain on the other side. It is very quiet - if you find the right location, you can be on a quiet street where I hardly see another person at all. Oh where did Jackie Chan film the myth?
Omg as someone who grew up in Kunming I found it incredible when people talk about my hometown! Yunnan is definitely not the most visited place for tourists. Many have never heard of this name, but your understanding about Yunnan truly amazes me! I dont know if you have also visited Lijiang, Nujiang, Shangrila and Xishuangbanna or not, but I hope you had a good time in Yunnan!
Love your channel. Have enjoyed all your video in China. I have a totally different perspective on China now. I'm looking forward to you showing us Bali thru your eyes (and camera). I love the way you tell a story in each video. Great content. Keep uploading !!!
For people allergic to peanut,“我对花生过敏”(wo dui hua sheng guo min)means "I am allergic to peanut",copy this words in your phone and show it to the waiter every time you order in the resturant. Hope this will help you!
Jiaojiao La I do feel it's gonna to be out of control once the issue occurred, the most problem is language barrier ,although even someone wanna help him/her,if the emergence case is not gonna be handled in time ,it would be life-threaten issue, did you consider that?
Ken Yup so what’s your point? I am offering help here. Let me make it clear,I mean before you order in the restaurant, show the Chinese words to the waiter, it may help avoid dishes with peanuts. What you said doesn’t make any sense
I've had multiple friends who've lived here (hey, I live in Tianjin, China and I've been here for 3 years) with peanut allergies. They'd constantly get food with peanuts, but they wouldn't send them back because the chefs would just take the peanuts out and send the same dishes back. We just ordered stuff that originally had no peanuts in it. They both lived here and were perfectly safe, so just be aware this is custom if you're traveling to China with an allergy so you stay safe.
Life is meant to be lived...if Bali is making sense for you at the moment in time...go for it and live in Bali fully...especially when you are young and able!!! Thank you, Poppy, for sharing...will still follow you round the world. Best wishes!!!
Wow I truly admire your adventurous self. Your flexibility and optimism is what makes it seem to go so smooth and fun. Having a good traveling companion must also be key. Thanks for your honesty and not making it seem like its always peachy. It's so fun to see your videos and help those of us imagine being in places we for one reason or another can't be at.
Thank you Roger! Being flexible and optimistic is key to travel, unless you are traveling luxuriously things will always be a struggle haha...But in my opinion, you also discover more about the world and yourself this way.
I haven’t watched many of Poppy’s videos, but it’s refreshing how honest she was about RU-vid feeling like a job, which I think a lot of other youtubers aren’t honest about
Glad you guys didn't think I was being ungrateful. I was worried people would be upset with me saying this but it's the truth and I want people to know it, especially if they are thinking about doing the same job.
Loved this Q&A, and I couldn't agree more with the pollution and overcrowded aspect! And I was so surprised to know that our birthdays are 10 days apart yay! ❤️
i am overseas Chinese, but i do support your decision to leave China. After all, there are so many places to visit and we don't live forever, so it is important to move on to new places. for me, i am concentrating on travelling in Europe, but i can only do a few weeks per year because i feel homesick after 2-3 weeks away. so, enjoy life while you can !!!!
i am also an oversea chinese, and I spent more time in US than in China.. To a certain extent, China is crazy about mimicking U.S., In the process, China is losing many valuable cultural practice and traditions.
It's good to talk about yourself, don't represent everyone. Not all people like and imitate the U.S. culture, Many people are obsessed with China's own culture, like Han clothes, tea culture and so on. .And someones like and imitate Japanese culture, or South Korea, and some people like the UK. Germany, France, Italy. . . This is just globalization, and it means that everyone has their own hobbies and freedoms. Don't think that you live in the US, then all people should "crazy" and "mimicking" American culture at all, if you are Chinese, and don't stand behind and Criticize Chinese for losing Chinese culture, but you should understand, love and promote Chinese culture firstly.
@Yiwan Ye...You could be right based on the videos from vloggers. The leaders and people of China should preserve the Chinese culture in everything they do. They could have built or design modern buildings whose architectural design still has Chinese elements. Look at Dubai, Doha and Kuwait cities, many of their modern buildings still have Muslim elements in their architectural design. Most of the modern cities in China look like Singapore or Hong Kong already, even more dense. But I love China a lot even though I haven't been there yet. I have been to Taiwan and Hong Kong and seem like I was in China as well. But I noticed in Taiwan, many of the modern buildings really have distinctively Taiwanese elements compared to Hong Kong because most buildings in Hong Kong look like in the West.
I watched almost every video you uploaded and I found out you are very fair, outgoing and reasonable to me. I believe Chinese will give you the warm welcome whenever you come back to China. Anyway enjoy your life in Bali and best wishes to you!
OMG I think It's been a year since I subscribed. I enjoyed watching all of your videos. They are so relaxing and inspiring. It's a part of my break time. Thank you very much for your work. China always welcomes you back. Wish you good luck on the journey.
Alexander Chadwick I definitely think it can be a great career but it’s just not something I’m in love with! I like the idea of making videos about myself and having complete freedom control but I definitely don’t want to have the spotlight on me forever haha
Very refreshing Poppy. I’ve been following you for quite sometime; it’s been wonderful watching you grow. Wishing you all the best in the future, you’ve proven that you have what it takes to succeed in what ever you endeavor to do. You make me feel like a proud “Poppy “. So, that’s what I’ll call myself as your viewer. I think we’re all just “Poppys” !!! Thanks 🙏 so much!
I like the honesty and sincerity you showed in this Q&A video. I agree with you on many things you have mentioned. Wish you a pleasant journey in Bali and to pursue your dream.😘
Thanks for another great video! I learned a lot and am so jealous that you get to travel and live in so many different places. I hope to travel around the world one day. I learned a lot about China from your videos. I am glad that you are fair instead of all the negative stuff that I hear from the US media. Good luck on your future endeavors and enjoy your stay in Bali. Thanks for all of your advice and knowledge!
Where's Poppy You are welcome and I definitely will and truly enjoyed your videos in China. I needed a more real and fair picture of China as I hope to come there soon to teach English. You helped me so much! I will definitely watch your videos in Bali too since I hope to travel there one day too.
Possible nickname. Poppy seeds or seedlings. So you can say what's up my seedlings. That way you inspire us to travel the world you're planting seeds all over.
i'm a chinese and i'm learning English now, your channel really helps me a lot in learning English. Now I can understand you without captions Thank you very much! I hope you have a greate time in Bali and make more videos I love your videos.
I have a few friends who have visited Bali but left while feeling disappointed for one reason or another. This makes me really curious about Bali because it looks so beautiful in pictures and videos. I have not been to Bali before but would definitely want to check it out for myself.
Yunyi Li hmm well I mean, everyone has different experiences with every country they visit. I’m loving it in Bali but that’s because I’m living with the most amazing Balinese family I don’t think I will ever get bored haha
Nomad Back, it depends on you and the effort you put in to find things to do and enjoy. It's the same for being positive or negative. People aren't just born positive, they just choose to be and you have to work on it.
Hey Poppy, I am a telecommunications engineer, and I just wanted to say that using public Wi-Fi isn't that unsecure if you always check that you are using https protocol, when using https with a valid certificate from the website (green on the brower) no one will be able to decrypt the information travelling between you and the servers owning that certificate, even if someone is sniffing the WiFI signals or have access to routers and switches between you and the website's servers he won't be able to get any of your information not in a million years.
I visited northwest China, and the cruised down Yangtze river. The cleaner town is Yichan near Wuhan, where you can visit many beautiful places nearby.
Hi Poppy It took me a week to think what to say. I like to thank you, I live in China through you, watching your video. I haven"t been to China since I was four years old. Next year I will be retiring and hoping I can convince my CBC wife (Canadian born Chinese) to go to China. I will still watch your video till you are not on you tube. My son was in Bali and it was fantastic. Jordan also move out of China, is she base anywhere, or is she just traveling around ? Live your dream!!!
Thanks John! You should definitely bring your wife to China, I think you guys will have a great time. Jordan still lives in China, she's just traveling for a few months before returning.
I totally get that... traveling is amazing but you also miss home. It gets exhausting after a while to always be doing something new and out of your element. It’s super fun but its not always easy. I have lived in Argentina and Germany and now I’m moving to China... I have been loving your videos so I can have a better idea of what to actually expect!
Actually, as a software engineer. I must point out that even if you are connected to somebody else's WI-FI without using VPN. It's still very hard for them to steal your privacy information or even bank account password. As long as the website is using "https" protocol, which pretty much all the privacy sensitive website does. Your information is encrypted all the way from your computer to their server. Whoever provides the network connection is able to hijack the data but they can't understand it because they don't have the key to decrypt the information.
Hi Poppy, I'am Chinese. I've been watching your video since you just moved to China a year a ago, you made really good videos, wish you great happiness in your new journey and Happy Birthday!
I’ll be honest, I’m somewhat sad that you moved out of China. You were the only person in RU-vid that said anything good about China. I’m currently working towards a Bachelors in English Education and a minor in East Asian Literature. I’m planning to move to China after I graduate next year. Your videos about China always made me happy and helped me make it through each and every day. But I don’t even have those anymore...
Just because I don't live in China doesn't mean I'm never going back. Even when I lived in China I wasn't even there all the time haha. I want to see the world and learn about different cultures and people. I hope you keep watching my adventures!
Poppsters! You should call your people that! Great video. I am not a traveler, but have lived in East Asia teaching English for 10 years. People still say I am traveling. I think they don't know that I have bad days too. I totally understand what you mean by not enjoying places because you are filming. That's why when I visit new places I let my friends take the photos. I love Bali! Good luck there.
I feel ya Poppy , I wanna go to Sanya China so bad also but my inner sense tells me to wait & good thing to The Dept Of Veterans Affairs letter arrived today saying they are making me an appointment at a private specialist for my retirement claims if military veterans miss such appointments they close the file and you cain't open it again and this is the same VA who said I did not have any exams for the claims . They may have thought I was in China and would not be home ? I'm in San Diego CA a bit of Paradise dreaming of China , so I feel you Poppy you just never know so I purchased a few lotto tickets also .
You tube is a miracle. I think you young ones take it for granted. It is the most important social outlet ever invented. You don t know what it was like before YT. I know you could make more money but What could you possibly do that would be more important other than maybe having a family. I am so liking forward to your cultural experiences in Bali. Maybe some of it will rub off on the US. See..... important stuff. Blessings!
Have you been to Oreadea that's where i am rn im so excited to know a fellow Romanian youtuber... like OMG... i never knew you were half Romanian i am born in Romania and left Romania at 3 1/2 years old so that's amaxing... hope you know Romanian... (bine vam gasit)
Probably haha but I surely don't remember all the names. I kind of just have mental images of everything. I know a little romanian but it's been a while since I've practiced :(. I need to speak more with my day.
about peanut. no, most chinese recipes don't put peanut into dishes directly, we put them in a lonely bowl like dessert. sometimes, we crack it then spread on dish, easy to spot.
i know allergy is horrible. but peanut allergy seems like illness in westerner only, i dunno any chinese allergy with peanut, why? peanut is not china origin, it came from S.America.
watched on the right day, happy bday! you mentioned you went to school in CO, what years were you there? I live in CO now so just curious. Hell to the yeah on Mexican food. So hard to find overseas. I have travelled for hours out of my way in Japan and Europe to get to Mexican food. Not sure if it is the beans, salsa, cilantro, or something else I miss the most but every crazy homesick hunger craving I'd had while travelling involved Mexican food.
Nice vlog as usual. I live in Shenzhen, and also have been to Bali for hundred times,I regard bali as my second hometown, when you come back to China, lets drink together and I am glad to teah you mandarin. 😊😊😊
Welcome to Yunnan,Kunming is capital of Yunnan province. I will provide you more help because I am living there, the city is called spring city and without any pollution in all season. I hope you have a pleasant and amazing journey in my hometown.
What to call your fans? What about Poppers? 😂😂😂anyways, love your videos! I originally discovered them when I had a big interest in China, but even though you've moved to other cool places I still will remain a fan of yours! As someone who enjoys travelling myself, I'm happy to follow you along your journeys 💙💜💛
Hey Poppy, i came across your videos accidentally but really like em, best wishes travelling. For everyone going to China if you have allergies [beans, nuts, peanut and shellfish] It is a good idea to have a card with your allergens in both simplified and traditional Mandarin. Chinese cuisine is very diverse but even if you ask waiter not to chop any nuts or beans into your dish; most of the time chef/cook still uses peanut oil. In a similar way lots of dishes are also cooked using oyster oil. Just keep this in mind when ordering food. It is a pity when one cannot fully experience different foods the way they were intended but hey, lots of options still.
It’s interesting that I’ve been following you and I’m a Chinese from HK and my parents are from Indonesia, so I understand Indonesia more than normal people. I would say Bali is not the representative of Indonesia. You should experience Indonesia more, there are a lot more to see and to eat. There are also a lot of Indo-Chinese food you should try.
Your vidios very good and You give so much information about places.you channel content are also very good. So much love ❤️ to u my poppy.Happy birthday in advance 💖💖 keep traveling blogs.
I moved to Shenzhen (Nanshan) after your move. I could never understand why you chose SZ. Sure, it's developed but there are so many cheaper and beautiful places in the South East Asia. I'm glad you've done the right choice. Enjoy Indonesian cheap Warungs for 5 RMB per dish!
I mean it's definitely not for everyone. I just found the culture and lifestyles so fascinating, but I do understand the appeal of South East Asia. Everybody has their different desires and expectations.
Very cool. I will say about the pollution in China (unless it's changed in the past few years, which is possible), the north gets it far worse. It is possible to see Beijing in sunshine, but it can get horrendously polluted in the north. The places I lived above the imaginary line (ie. the places that DO get the heating in the winter) all got terrible pollution, and I would go for weeks without seeing a blue sky, and felt a burning sensation in my throat. Once we moved south (to Fujian province - you must go there if you haven't been already - it is my favourite province, although Yunnan is also beautiful, as is Sichuan) the sky clears up substantially. Glad you had an overall good experience in China, however.
