The Maddog 50 gets a high end Polini 95mm Variator. Here are the steps to take to get thae top end speed you paid for, but fair warning… It may not work. CVT mods for top end speed are just like rear gear mods. They are gear up mods and you need lots of horsepower to make them work.

I have a 150cc scooter. I did a variator and clutch and gear up upgrade that absolutely killed the top end. The gear up was massive. So I did a smaller gear up. Went back to the stock CVT setup and just added a Nibbi 26mm carb. End result? Almost another 4mph faster. Now it's just the fine tuning to get to go even faster. I love your channel! Oh! BTW...I did the Ghetto Wrench electric fuel pump mod...all it did was leak gas. LOL!😂 It's okay. I went back to the stock pump, and it runs great. Why can't we just leave things alone? 😂😂😂

I have the Glixal 50mm(82cc) BBK, along with the Glixal Clutch system that came with Red torque and Red Clutch springs..The variator I got is the same size as my stock variator only it has a higher center..With this setup installed I shredded the Gates 669-18.1-30 belt, so I went back to the stock variator 7 grams slider weights..Well my belt is holding up but damn is that CvT casing hot..lol..I am only getting 42-45 mph..My belt is riding all the way to the end of my variator pulley,so I am thinking of increasing my variator size and a longer belt, but not to sure what size I should increase it all to..my goal is 55 mph..anyone have any suggestions?
@GhettoWrench

@spidervenom3341 oh hey I'm taking to u on messenger I think. Get rid of those red springs. Heat comes from a slipping clutch and kills performance. You want the clutch to engage fully and that will happen with lighter springs not holding the shoes out... like yellow or blue ones.

Gy6 150s usually idle around 800rpms, the cvt engages at about 1000 or so, and tgey rev to about 9k, maybe 7. They make around 8-9hp. Most of these kits are goinh to suck up all that and you're gonna be damn near at the limit by the time you hit 15mph or so. Mind you the 50s make 3-5hp. When I had my Quantum, what I wanted was the clutch to engage faster, and the whole unit to shift slower or the same. Ultimately, if you want to go fast, then you need to change the final drive. All these cvt things are going to just get you to your top speed faster, or cost you top speed.

not really CVT related, but anyway... i once had a gig pulling billboards with vespa 150s... we had one job, was a week long job, bit of a road trip. not the sort of trip you wanna take on a scooter, let alone pulling trailers! client didnt want to hire a truck... nice little caravan park. about the only good bit. whole week was just a litany of disasters, ended up with a flat rear tyre on the second day... not just a puncture, but absolutely shredded 3 inch gash... in a non scooter area... on a weekend... with no other transport... somehow ended up with a wheelbarrow tyre. all that i could find. 3 inch or 4 inch? i took the four. thinking its closest to 120 profile... na. should have taken the 3 inch. the final diameter of the tyre was enough so fully inflated, would rub on the mudguards. changed the gearing so it could barely crack 80KM.with my scrawny butt on board only... normally it could manage 110 with me and a trailer... 65, 70 MPH? (WTF!?) was a long and slow ride home, i can tell you, with the tyre half deflated... running no tube, despite being a tube-type... the bead seated?

AND ITS CLEAR. no sign of road block or cops or diversion... not even five minutes... WTF? so, stress over finding tyre... sorted. the next morning, leave trailers at park, duck across bridge to shops, get coffee, smokes, check tyre pressure... someone stole the KEYS. not the scooters, no. just the keys... (i always leave my keys in my bikes?) got under the seat, tools, opened the dash, got the ignition switch out. vroom vroom cough. CODED KEYS!!!! all day to find a locksmith... next day to hire a van... neither of us had a full license so that was... tricky. long drive to locksmith. about $1200 all up... then a freak storm with 120km winds had us sitting inside watching TV for the rest of the week. got ONE day doing what we were supposed to do :)

Messed with that long ago and ended up reinstalling the stock parts. With my modified engine it makes more power and gets it up to speed faster but I think the limiting factor is actually the gearing. I put an 842-20-30 belt on with a 115mm variator inner since the face is already 115. The new belt appears to be just slightly wider than the older 835, im guessing due to wear. It is far less quick with the 842 belt. The new belt doesn't sit all the way down into the variator and doesn't go all the way to the outside of the rear clutch pulley. This causes it to feel as if its starting out in a higher gear and not in first gear so to speak. The old belt is in good condition and simply appears worn slightly making it look less wide than the new one. Is this normal? Does a new belt have to break in to be able to sit all the way down into the variator?
@GhettoWrench
@GhettoWrench 11 дней назад
@@DakotaWarboys the 842 may not be going all the way to the top of the variator if the bike does not have the power to get it there. Even when the belt goes all the way down in the clutch, with the 115 variator, I don't think the belt will go all the way to the top, but it comes close. You may be faster with a new 835 belt. The new one should be 20mm wide again. They will wear thinner over time.
@DakotaWarboys
@DakotaWarboys 11 дней назад
@@GhettoWrench The issue is just at take off, not top speed. The 835 sits all the way down into the variator. The longer 842 seems wider, possibly from not being worn. The 842 doesn't go all the way down into the variator and doesn't sit all the way at the top of the clutch. This is at idle and take off. It feels like a car taking off in 2nd or 3rd gear. It may just need to be broken in.
@GhettoWrench
@GhettoWrench 8 дней назад
@DakotaWarboys I have one maddog that foes that. Idk why, but it is always faster with the 835 belt. It is not a 171 tho... it is still a 150. Maybe not enough power for the gear up 942 belt. Have u tried lighter rollers?
@DakotaWarboys
@DakotaWarboys 8 дней назад
@@GhettoWrench It had 13g rollers in it when I got it. I took 3 out leaving 3 and it hardly moved. Lol. I bought all sizes and tried 16 first then 15, then 14 that came with the new 115 variator and so far all the heavy ones give a good hard acceleration feeling. I intend to try all of them down to 9 or 10 just to determine the difference. The issue isn't at all with taking off with the worm 835 belt. It's taking off with the 842 belt that is new. The old worn belt sits all the way down in the variator even though it's shorter in length it's worn so much that the belt is noticeably thinner so it makes it all the way to the base of the variator which gives a very nice take off. I'm probably going to put the 842 back on and let it wear in. I only rode it around the block and took it off. Is there any belt slightly larger than 842? 850 maybe? I'm trying to find that size or near it.
@GhettoWrench
@GhettoWrench 4 дня назад
@DakotaWarboys I looked for one awhile back and never found one. I like the feel of heavier rollers, but lighter ones seem to perform better. I just don't like the annoying RPMs for cruising around. After hitting my top speed for bragging rights, I usually go heavier rollers.
