Many churches target minorities by passing others who need the gospel and most churches now target young families and even tailor their services to attract young families and focus on young people to the exclusion of older generations.

As someone who grew up in the 60’s and fully supported the work of Martin Luther King and was appalled by the segregation in American society, I’m deeply disturbed to see that we are now going unraveling everything he stood for by making everything about colour. Currently at an acts 29 church here in Fort Worth and while the spirit is active and working there is definitely an obsession among the staff about how we “look” as a church. Pastor always pushing for ethnic people to be on stage, only women reading scripture and leading prayer on Mother’s Day, whole Sundays dedicated to racial reconciliation complete with a “panel” of token black members (some of who admit to feeling pressured and weird about it). I would have left before now but after much prayer I do believe God still wants my family there. I could use prayer to have wisdom to know where to lead my family and courage to speak truth in a honoring tone with others at my church, I’ve definitely made several of my fellow partners quite mad reposting your videos haha.

It is quite simple to evaluate a church. A church is not doing its job unless it is following the command Jesus gave in Matthew 28:19, 20. That means the church is "going" and making the kind of disciples Jesus commanded. The kind of disciples Jesus commanded are baptized, and taught to obey all Jesus commanded. That means they must be instructed and shown. If the church is only like flypaper it is not doing what a church should be doing. Jesus did not tell his disciples to get into small groups each week and talk about how to live the Christian life. One must be be equipped with correct doctrine and correct practice.

Between the path Driscoll went, the path Chandler has gone, and the way the pastor/lead elder at my previous church (Acts 29 affiliated) seemed to approach leading a church, I've started to wonder if there's something built into it that fosters a personality cult approach to churches rather than a balanced arrangement where it isn't just a lead pastor & a few "accessory" elders? Or is it more likely the relative speed and ease of planting a church via Acts 29 rather than other affiliations just lends itself to attracting a lot of people who aren't fit for (or at least ready for) ministry?

I recently left a acts29 church. I can back Joel up on this in saying he is exactly right. Especially his last comment about trying to be cool. Through the pandemic and shut downs in Oregon all the pastor cared about was outside perception and kept saying we needed to be "gospel centric" in our response to c@#$%. It was all about being "cool" Joel, if I were to ask you a acts29 question it would be to have you explain their idea of "gospel centric"? The term was always explained and used as more of a esoteric force than the biblical gospel?

There’s nothing wrong with an interest in learning about other cultures. Just don’t buy into the lie of ethnic Gnosticism or cultural Gnosticism, that assumes there are certain biblical truths that can only be truly comprehended by individuals with particular backgrounds. Also, don’t buy into the lie that all cultures are equally virtuous. If a culture values being on time, discipline, and objective observation (the scientific method), that culture’s values are superior a culture that values tardiness, laziness, and relativism.

Define what you mean by "holistically learn about other ethnicities". Sounds like a yeah they do care, but not enough, but I don't want to misunderstand your position. Same happens over and over century repeats, christians are blind looking and waiting based on secular history reading is first Adam not awake still looking for salvation. Ecclesiastes 3:15: “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been; and God seeks what has been driven away.” The “natural man” cannot grasp that, for to him reality is based only on the evidence of the senses. The man of reason could justify the verse’s end, saying if it has any meaning then the writer must mean recurrence. The sun comes every day and the moon completes its cycle and the seasons come and go. If we took a picture of the universe today, the scientists can compute how long it will take to return to this point in the picture. So the intellectual man could justify the verse; but that is not what is meant, for it is addressed not to the man of reason or the man of sense, but to the man of Imagination. What is it all about? “That which is, already has been; that which is to be, already has been, and God seeks what has been driven away.”
