Today we are back with a new episode of the #mysteries of #Bulgaria and we will look at #Bukelon fortress, as well as some interesting rock churches in the region of #Mátochina and #Svilengrad, near Turkey. 😲 With these fuel prices, today's episode is a test for #finances and #investments, because it is really far from #Sofia, and the last part of the road is downright scary. Bukelon fortress is one of the few preserved in Bulgaria.
As if forgotten by the people, on the top of the plateau rises the tall ghostly silhouette of the tower, a reminder of the former greatness of the people of these lands. The first thing that will impress you when you arrive here is the height of the building - as much as 18 meters, that is as much as a 6-story modern residential building. In reality, however, it is only part of a much larger defense complex that is located in a key location. Since the time of the Thracians, there has been a constant human presence here, but that is about to change. There are only about 30 residents left in the village of Matochina, and the collapsed ceiling of the town hall does not give a hopeful outlook. Perhaps for the first time in thousands of years, the Sakar Mountains in this part will be deserted.

If you are interested in history, Buquelon will be interesting to visit. I say again that certain #finances are required to get there and possibly spend the night at a #hotel because it's really far from #sofia in general. Otherwise, as always in #theclashers and our #travel advice for #bulgaria I will try to give you interesting #facts about the whole surrounding area and the fortress in general.
The interior of the tower is one of the best preserved in our lands. It actually had 3 floors, of which the second floor and the places where the wooden beams lay are clearly visible today. Inside, you can immerse yourself in narrow corridors and small rooms that were actually used as a prison in peacetime.
There are also traces of excavations around, the last of which have established the foundations of a fortress wall that surrounded the facility. In the past, people used the stones from it to build their houses, of which unfortunately only walls remain.
