@@bumbleprime7713 Exactly. Honestly, most G1 were bricks with rotating shoulders, and elbows, if you were lucky. Even better would be those with rotating wrists. But 99% of them were solid from the chest down. Most of them did not even have moving heads. The only thing Prime had going for him in robot mode was moveable shoulders, elbows, and wrists (considering that the fists were plug in). No neck rotation, no waste, hips, knees or feet.
@@bumbleprime7713 - Yes, G1 had toys with varying degrees of articulation but considering the video is about Optimus Prime, which the original G1 had knees anyway, the joke failed.
I was lucky enough to get the Toy deco version, trailer and all, and as someone who's never owned G1 toys before, I had an absolute blast with this thing. The core robot has been a consistent desk toy of mine - it's so fun to pose and flip back and forth between modes. The Anime deco looks surprisingly good, but I still prefer the paint on the Toy deco. Also, G1 Optimus has anime blush lines under his eyes and I can never unsee it.
@@supercreativehandlenameJust underneath each eye, you can see three little diagonal lines sculpted underneath, they kinda look like an anime character blushing. Granted, you have to get real close to the head to notice it.
The most bone chilling speech ever. "While this may vary well mark the end of the age of primes, leadership can be earned with or without the matrix, and in my view, you have each acted as a prime. As even Megatron has demonstrated on this day, every sentient being processes the capacity for change. I ask only this of you fellow Autobots, keep fighting the noblest of fights. Above all, do not lament my absence for in my spark I know that this is not the end but merely a new beginning, simple put, another transformation."
Considering the original legs just relied on the hip joint to stay together ( if I remember correctly there were also two plastic tabs under the cab that just encased the legs, no locking whatsoever), even your not perfectly locking ones are still improvement.
Impossible, I own a complete G1 Devy and he combines in a way that ruins any chance of articulation. Other Combiners like Bruticus would be less hard but not easy.
@@Daxverto It still wouldn't work, the inherent blockiness of G1 combiners would completely hinder any articulation and would require them to make them significantly more streamlined and modernized, which would completely defeat the whole purpose to begin with.
I chose the G1 toy colors version with the trailer because I wanted an articulated G1 Prime with the trailer. After all, the Walmart G1 reissue from a few years ago didn't include the trailer or Roller.
I went for the toy version with the full trailer set. Gotta say, I do agree with the waist rotation critique and the legs can be a bit finicky when going back to truck form, but this is otherwise gotta be one of my favorite Primes now. I’m absolutely in love with it. It’s just a joy to mess with and flip back and forth to truck and bot mods. The posing and updated weapons are stellar. It’s some solid engineering with all the charm of the original toy.
Glad i bought mine when i did. Went for the anime colour version as that looks nicer, was cheaper and doesn't have a giant grey box taking up space when i have little to spare.
3:41 the head rotates is an upgrade of the original 3:54 Better shoulders 4:34 Wow! The original has a spring based elbow joint that is stif and tends to break. 5:11 That ab crouch is awesome. 5:36 The slightly rotating waist is just a bonus. 6:30 Finally hips movility, and the ratched knee is so sweet. 7:15 the original head was just screwed in the original toy, so the fact it can rotate is a win win... 8:06 Yes... That was the most annoying part of the original toy. The original hips have some twisted gears mechanism that is the fatal flaw of the toy, in a point if you're not careful, you can split it in two by accident... Overall is too expensive, but... Is one of those things that a fan of G1 would apreciate. P.S. Just dreamin' but I hope they release a Megatron G1 like this one, but all we know that never gonna happens again...
I decided to get the 2002 collection one for an accurate toy feel while also getting extra accessories because it means I have to get creative with how I do things. On my Optimus prime it does the same with knees and other ones as well
If they do make more articulated G1 figures, I'm wondering how in the Hell are they going to do the mini car bots [Edit] Holy shit! They ARE making missing link mini car bots!
At a recent comic con I got G1 Optimus and the trailer for a decent-ish price and even though it’s a little busted it still happy I got a vintage one. My only problem is that it’s scary to handle! The arms are so scary to move in and out during transformation. He’s staying in robot mode 😂
Glad I got the toy-akkurate version to pair with my original '84 Prime. That being said, it's staying unopened in the box in the closet until they update Jazz and Bumblebee. 'Till all are articulated.
I would not hold my breath on Bumblebee. The G1 toy is REALLY small and the wheels get in the way of any additional articulation. Plus the head being on a flap means it probably won't have any real options for adding a neck swivel. All that said, Jazz is a good candidate for the upgrade.
Also the use of styrofoam is amazing. It allows you to store the figure back in its beautiful packaging and is an awesome throw back. It literally is there for collectors. Bubbles don't allow for that, especially if they opted to recreate the vintage bubbles of the original US G1 releases
I really hope we start getting more of these. Like I’d love if we essentially modernized the whole original G1 line like how we’ve been doing the Masterpiece series ones
As someone who had a G1 Optimus prime new, a few limited points of articulation is nothing. This thing is light-years beyond the original and I can't wait to get mine to stand side by side with the original
I swear if they make more of these I am going to go bankrupt. Especially if they make diaclone color repaints. God would I love a Magnus of these in the Diaclone colors!
I had multipleG1 Primes, but the main one I have on my shelf is a New Year's Prime, which came in a Japanese Box with a pewter Matrix on a chain (as a necklace). But it has all the parts and looks good. It's been sitting in Truck Mode for over a decade, and now I have a LEGO Optimus that's sitting next to it ,also in Truck Mode. And then I have Cybertron Optimus on the top shelf in full Super Robot Mode, with Optimal Optimus Primal next to it in Robot Mode.
@@izzik2781 nah its not the articulation because I do wanna get it for that reason its just I don't want to spend even more money. Plus the Walmart one comes with a trailer I believe so would just stick to that tbh.
I prefer the styrofoam packaging. It is nostalgic and protects the figure better than any other package out there. Most collectors are going to keep it like me, so the environmental complaint isn't that big of an issue. I am looking forward to getting mine.
POV: the legacy one that came out just a few months later Seriously though, I feel so bad for the people who went and bought this figure for the insane prices only for the legacy one to be announced and is so much cheaper.
you shoul totally get a g1 ultra magnus, i have one from my father and it is still one of the coolest toys in my collection. I know you like g1 figs, and it a fabulous figure. just a simple suggestion
I think they were waiting for a big event for transformers to make a fully articulated g1 toy and i got bit by the Hasbro qc goblin with my 86 arcee because one of the ankles is cracked and both ankles are yellowing after about a year or two after i got it
I have a simple solution for the styrofoam problem - it's still in the box, and the box is in my closet. Why would I throw it out? As far as I'm concerned, it's part of the missing link experience. You don't throw away Collector Items box.
Yeah. I was considering getting this figure, but passed on it due to the price and me wanting to save money for the leaked/speculated ss86 commander version later this year.
I honestly think that's a cool novelty but it's way overcharged. there's basically no new sculpting but they did rework all the joints which is nice, but I feel like they put more work into designing a core class than they did designing this (not a bad thing just the nature of this having to be exactly the same as the original but a bit better)
They sculpted the sticker detail from the forearms and legs/feet into the mold. Remolded the area behind the grill to accommodate the fists as well as on the inside of the forearm for the swivel of the fists. Remolded the chest area for the matrix chamber. New headlights since the G1 had a hole for the fists to plug in. Deeper cut for the knee bend. It's a lot of small details that on the surface you might not see or think about but they did more than you realize. That being said I also think $70 is a bit much ($55 being the sweet spot, $65 at most) but this figure isnt for everybody. If you grew up with G1 like I and others did, this is the toy we could only dream of having back then and ultimately is worth it.
You're just wrong. As someone who is VERY familiar with this mold, it's completely 100% redone. The fact that it looks so close is nothing short of incredible
I used to have the original version of this Optimus and ultra Magnus. However, I had to get rid of them for other reasons. However, in a few boxes I found in my garage, I found the trailer that went to the original toy, so I still have that. I might consider getting this.
Very few people will get rid of the box for these sort of things, just unfortunate you had to. What I've done is, put another basic G1 Prime back in the box to have Missing Link on display.
was waiting for your review i saw an influx of review on this guy it was interesting i preordered mine from BTTS which its supposed to be coming into their warehouse soon (i hope) i think i still have my G1 reissue trailer (but lost prime) so can’t wait to complete the set lol
Bro I was dreaming about this figure as a kid. Now its out, it looks way too cool! And can we just shut the hell up about making "degradable" packaging? You're the reason figureswapping is such an issue in stores.
Plus the styro allows you to store it in its gorgeous box if you want. Me and MANY others are pretty happy about that. Japanese G1 did it for that very reason. This is a love letter to us vintage guys
If they really wanted this to emulate the cartoon, the head sculpt should have been completely redone to be more screen accurate, like they did for Music Label Optimus.
Yeah, I’m late on seeing this. I wanted to check out a good review, so I figured you had one. Holy cow! Unbelievable! It’s my G1 Optimus Prime, with articulation, and a wicked axe. Dude no worries about comparison. He looks just like G1. Seriously, dude! Enjoy, and get well soon. Colds really suck…
Just found out on mine that the smokestacks pivot. Forward in robot mode and outward in truck mode. I don't know why they do this but maybe they's robot cannons?
@@CarRobots But it isn't a case of the parts swiveling on their pegs cos they can't move any further. There's something in the shoulder stopping them at a 90 degree swivel.
This is a GREAT toy, but they won't make many. For some important characters, it's just easier to make a whole new mould to represent them. I plan on having this be my main Optimus. I wonder if Studio Series can surpass that sentiment.
