i still stand by that they could pretty much rerelease this figure with accurate paint and better tabbing for the torso and the shoulders and it would be perfectly in line with today's standards. its crazy how much they COOKED with this figure and has been a holy grail for me since i skipped on it for grimlock back in 2014. luckily i got it from a guy on mercari a couple months ago and i love it, he still holds up SO WELL today.
I have the Movie the Best rerelease. Back in 2014, I wanted this figure SO MUCH, and after almost 10 years I finally got him and it's one of my fav figures I own.
"You like evasion mode Optimus because G1 truck. I like evasion mode Optimus because rusty transformers are cool. We are not the same 👔". Cool review btw. I just wish the rusty decos of this figure were more easily accessible.
Evasion Mode Optimus is definitely one of the best Prime molds we've gotten, imo. The normal toy deco is definitely...lacking, though, yeah. Like you said, it's not a lack of paint, but instead that they just kinda slathered blue paint on that in place of using blue plastic and highlighting the various details. I still love the damn thing though. Loved it at the time, still love it now. Definitely worth grabbing at least one version of the mold.
I found out at the time that if you rotate the head while transforming, when you close everything the windows line up perfectly and the middle part with the grill gets kinda locked in place. Was an interesting hack I don't think many people discovered yet. Also another funny thing with this figure is how it kinda makes a g1 cosplay by having angled forearms, the double tires on the lower legs and a gun that can't be held by its proper handle
I loved him then, and I love him now At the time I actually split the cost of the Platinum Edition Autobots Reunite set with a buddy, he got Crosshairs and Hound, I got Bee, Drift and Optimus, and I was happy with that deco! I'd had my eyes however on this one version that was like- I'm pretty sure it was a Japanese exclusive that basically perfected the rusty truck look that the set with that Skids redeco had. Finally found the thing by chance, being sold on it's own, second hand in like 2022 or something, and I still love it, super glad to have it now
This is the design Optimus should've had for the entirety of TF 4 and 5. It's so much better than the Knight design. They should've just cleaned up his rust and given him his shiny reds and blues, just like on this figure. Missed opportunity 😔
@@aires425 my problem with the Knight design is he has no car parts that make up his robot mode. I feel like that should be a given with a Transformer, especially one with as iconic of a vehicle mode as Optimus Prime
@@aires425 The knight design is good but problematic when it barely had any truck parts on him and doesn't translate well into a figure, why else do you think most tf4/tf5 optimus toys aren't the best looking except for voyager tf5 optimus and some 3rd party company exceptions?. This wasn't them changing their views on the g1 design, even if it was, it was not too late as this design blends the two. Tf4 needed more robotic designs with actual car parts, not metal humans or robot designs with no car parts but somehow turn into cars anyway
I've always wanted this guy ever since he came out. I saw it at a store back in 2014 but sadly my mom didn't let me get it. I hope I can get my hands on him one day cause I've always thought he's really cool
I still have this same toy from way back in 2014 I loved how he looked all in all and I felt like he lacked silver paint (I get the vibe theys tryna go for here)
I got the Wei Jiang Commander which is a huge upscale that uses cast metal parts, automotive grade chrome and paint to bring him to his full glory. Absolutely gorgeous, I use him as the main Optimus in my display.
Yeah me too. I feel this is around the time when I stopped following and buying these things regularly, with the tan coloured version of this exact toy (I think he came packaged with a blue crankcase repaint) being the last thing I bought before losing interest. They're both still on display, but after that I've only bought a few randomly through the years. 10 years is a long time, but maybe it doesn't feel like it.
I actually owned 2 versions of this figure. The original copy has the issue in the video where the portion when you flip the arms in/ out did break for my 1st copy but I remember 1 year after I got the Autobots united pack and it has a variant of evasion Prime but it has the mask on similar to the Bee movie leader class but without the swappable head and there is much more silver pain apps on the figure which despite not being film accurate i adored as a kid and adored back then and I highly recommend getting the pack since you get the main cast of AOE.
I love evasion Prime. I remember being so excited for it when it released, and I picked it up as soon as it became available. It honestly still holds up quite well, well worth picking up if you’re interested
I want to add to my comment that evasion mode Optimus actually sorta transform Like the movie because in the movie, you can see his head pop out the front just like invasion mode
i personally wanna see a G1-ified Bayverse where they stick with the 2007-2011 cars but the robots look like the G1 cartoon like what the Legacy line did
I got this for a buck at a thrift store. Very happy with my purchase. One of his chest things broke off tho so that side looks funny with super glue. Still works tho
This is one of my favorite figures of all time, and ironically I’ve only ever owned knock-off versions of it. I have broken the arms before, but part of that is because I was transforming it wrong, and trying to force them. But I really would like to own the “Movie the best” version, that paint is sick.
back when the movie and its toyline came out, I waited to get the Toys'R'Us-exclusive Evolution 2-pack to get this mold, both to get a new-in-box release of Classics 2006 Optimus Prime, but also because it had been rumored that the 2-pack version of this figure would have the faceplate head. Even when it turned out that the 2-pack version came with the normal head, I still got it because that wasn't a deal breaker. Real fun engineering on this with how the torso turns inside-out in the transformation.
My evolution version, the one that came with the classic voyager, also has stiff legs, but also some stress marks on the hinges with the front wheels, so I don't transform him as often
I really love age of extinction it was my first transformers live action movie my uncle to me to see it in the theater in the mall and I miss out on the first 3 because I was really young and am glad to see the first live action tf movie in theaters for its 15 anniversary and again age of extinction is still the best movie
im planning to get aoyi mech's version of this mold since it's the upscaled version of takara bumblebee legendary optimus prime except it has flames and additional bits of transformation which is why it looks cool to me
I can’t wait to see third party company TMT’s take on this guy. I know their bumblebee movie B-127 was awesome and they have the renders of this guy already
I somehow ended up with a chromed version of Evasion Mode Prime. It 's the same figure and looks exactly like this but the silver parts are chromed. It came in a two pack with a gold Grimlock.
I've got 4 different versions of this figure, and they're all KOs of various quality. One day I'll get the dirty white one, and the one with the blue flames...
While I never got rid of my Evasion Mode Prime, it's still in storage, and I have never broken it, however, my copy has the loose left elbow. It's still a great toy, though.
I had the weijiang upscaled black apple evasion prime. I believe that was his first design, before all things went haywire a few years ago and the person got into a bit of legal problem
Me personally, I prefer the modernized truck mode. While I love G1 Prime a lot, the movie’s vehicle design was unique like no other Optimus. (It doesn’t help when Hasbro has chosen to jam G1 OP down our throats recently)
The parts holding the arms on mine are not broke, but one side is warped, which does not effect the robot mode but means it does not transform properly sadly, it fights back and does not peg in properly in the end. Other than that and an extraordinary loose elbow I have had fun with it and it was my definitive movie prime til I got SS 32. I got this guy 2nd hand which will explain some of the issues. Also the odd choice on the clear light piping over the blue always baffled me.
Literally one of only figures I impulse bought from this movie line. Still a solid and fun voyager that is still subjectively better than any of the SS Bayverse primes. Always liked the missile firing shotgun accessory though never like how stupidly Prime holds it. That Power Master prime upgrade is the most random thing ever for a Bayverse Prime but owning the original Power master Prime and I think Apex armor or whatever it was can definitely see where the inspiration came from.
I highly recommend you go for the Movie The Best version - to me it is the best (lol) version of the mold. According to TFWiki it suffers from mold degredation but on my copy everything is fine. The Rusty Ver. Optimus Prime from Takara is also very nice - in truck mode at least. The robot is quite a letdown, but the way they handled the busted and rusted up deco sure is something to behold, it almost looks like they printed everything onto the truck mode parts. If you prefer more color, go for the one from the Breakout Battle set.
Prime honestly should have stayed this way from the 4th movie on… as much as I love the knight form, this form is so much better looking, and the figure itself laid the groundwork for the AMAZING SS38 which pays homage directly to this figures truck mode, and SS102 as well! I finally got this figure in my collection and it’s cool to finally have the figure that set the stage for all G1 style movie primes going forwards.
This is my second favorite Bayverse Prime figure, and it's second banana only to The King of Fighters, the Battle Blade mold. It was a ballsy play on Hasbro's part to include the shotgun from DotM Megatron, not knowing who would've actually HAD the old DotM MechTech Voyager figure to begin with. Between how badly they fumbled the ball on SS91 AoE Galvatron's truck mode and the thrown interception that was every dumb design decision that went into the back half of SS102 RotB Optimus Prime's truck mode, Hasbro should just simply do a repainted reissue of AoE Evasion Mode Optimus Prime for Studio Series. Would that scale correctly? No, but that went out the window way back with SS14 Ironhide (and the fact that SS05/32/44 Optimus is just way too small). They did it with SS25 TLK Bumblebee, SS39 TLK Cogman, and SS79 AoE High Octane Bumblebee, sooo...they should just do that for Evasion Mode Optimus, TLK Voyager class Knight Optimus, & TLK Voyager class Megatron...
If hasbro in the future mixed this figure with the HFTD voyager prime figure to make a new bayverse Optimus figure it would literally be perfect. Also with the new leaks of a leader SS aoe prime figure has got me really excited, for a new figure to replace that 2017 figure. It worked for the time but is very outdated and is literally a shellformer.
This is what Optimus should've looked like in the Bayverse! Just tweak the color separation & hes perfect! He should've stayed like this in the whole movie that was AOE. It wouldn't have made the movie any less weird or not-so-good, but it'd be an improvement, if at least a little. Maybe he could've stayed this way in the movie & instead of scanning the Western Star, he'd scan the Western Star or any other truck to just get the colors? Idk. Also, they really should release a SS Evasion Mode Optimus, then rerelease it in Concept Series in G1 colors to reference this figure & BBM Legendary Optimus. Knightverse Optimus is the best Live-action Optimus design ever, especially RotB, but this isn't a bad look for Optimus.
