I applaud you guys for your big move to Shenzhen, what a great experience for you guys. I made the big jump from Denver to China in 2008 and never looked back. My China options were between Guangzhou and Shenzhen. I chose Shenzhen (Shekou Int School) and am SUPER happy I did. You two mentioned many great points about the city and I couldn't agree more. After 3 years in Shenzhen (Shekou), moved on to Cairo, then HK for the next 6 years. Over those 6 years in HK I consistently came back to Shenzhen to visit because it's a great city with tons to offer. It's a shame many of my teacher colleagues in HK passed SZ off as a dangerous, dirty place they would never visit...but in actuality, many places in Shenzhen I cleaner and more green then HK. At any rate, I could go on talking highly of SZ, the city of opportunities, but I'm happy you two can explore and discover all SZ has to offer. Like me, every day you will probably find something new and interesting that will keep piquing your curiosity. Good luck and keep posting sweet vids!!! Sounds like you've been on some great adventures! Between SZ, Cairo and HK what's been your favourite? Do you have any recommendations of things to do in and near Shenzhen that are a little more unheard of and only known within amateur expert circles ;)?

Huge ups for you guys! I'm a Chinese who grew up in Australia and spent 2 months travelling in China and can't get enough of it. Loving the fact that there are people like you guys out there who are spreading a different angle other than the negativity that's filled with western media. There's some insane stuff happening in China at the moment and people aren't seeing it in the same lens because of the political issues at the moment. Hope you two are safe and having a blast!
I live by Hangzhou! But the traffic is horrific. I live outside of the city, however, and it’s beautiful. Beijing and Shanghai are definitely easier to navigate. If you ever come to Hangzhou, let me know! I’ll be happy to show you around.
While I applaud your courage to teach English in China, I hope there is 2-3 year plan besides teaching. The reality is a lot of foreigners become jaded and stuck while teaching. Explore different opportunities while you're still young!
ok this was super helpful! My husband and I were thinking of similar reasons (weather, job opps, location). It's cool to know you feel good about your decision :-) It was so interesting to hear about "shenzhen speed' because we live in West Africa now and it's notorious for 'West Africa International Time" aka WAIT. lol. Also I would love to see a video about your backgrounds! like where you're from, where you grew up, etc.
you guys are cutest couple! As an expat living in CN for 4 years, definitely could relate to content in your videos. And having lived in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen, I definitely prefer SZ to the other two (Canton food+ Tech Opportunities)

Good thing you move to china because it is a warzone in other country like US and Britain and so on.... Many people are moving to china because it is safe and cheap with respectful nice people
I'd love to see what the green spaces/parks look like. Question: When you traveled over initially, what items did you pack? What items/furnishings are more easily obtained once in China?
great suggestion! the parks are huge here :) When I initially came over I packed 2 suitcases with just clothes and my favourite western products (snacks/cosmetics) that I knew I couldn't get as easily. Once we were settled its super easy to buy furniture, appliances and all that stuff here

SZ one of my favorite cities too. The new malls there are even better than those in HK. The karaokes too. Acoustic effects way better and soooooo inexpensive,

hey rachel congrats that's exciting! We haven't been in China since mid-Jan actually, but we are thinking of returning near the end of this month. From what my friends have said who are currently in Shenzhen, life is slowly getting back to normal - they're still wearing masks everywhere and getting their temperature checked before entering malls, restaurants, metro etc. Regarding your move, I would try to delay it if possible and keep monitoring the situation. Right now unfortunately isn't the best time to move amidst all these travel regulations.
I have been living in SZ since 3 or 4 years ago. Now SZ is 99% safe - there hasn't been any new infected cases in the last 2 months. I am knocking 1% off only because SZ is a city of migrant workers and there might be someone who is infected right before he or she moves to SZ. However I have to say the chance of getting infected is smaller than winning lottery.
i'm moving back after this virus, always looking to make more friends ;) who knows what the future will hold in the NEW SAN FRAN, "pearl river delta"!!
