The fact that komoney developed an actually interesting gameplay loop with infinite normal summons, draw until 5 every turn, maximum monsters as actual boss monsters that are split into 3 separate cards, sending cards from deck to activate effects and returning cards from grave to activate strong effects yet failing to print halfway decent cards that can be used in the deck outside of filler cards. This could have also been a good chance to prevent multiple copies of the same card to vary the gameplay with the same deck. Fusions could have had a universal rule of being contact fusions by sending cards from deck to summon them instead of the traditional fusion spell then add contact fusion later because of nostalgia. I would have loved to make fusions be send the top 3 cards from deck, fuse two monsters on field as the normal fusion mechanic in rush. Also the powercreep at this early stage is going strong as the second season of rush duels makes practically all vanilla monsters L4 1500 attack. Instead of lowering the power of the cards from the original card game, they are already introducing super power creep that makes most old cards irrelevant already.
it only failed in the west because they haphazardly shoved it into duel links, and the only other rush duel game we got had a stagnant card pool. Rush is super popular in japan, it's one of the top 10 card games there, but konami is treating it like shit here in the west..
i agree that it was haphazardly shoved into the west. i wouldn't call it "super popular" in JP/Asia but it will have it's first world championship this year which will hopefully legitimize it a bit more.
I believe that Konami doesn’t want to invest so much money in the west because there is a high chance people won’t even like it. NOW IF people are playing the game in the west and Konami makes a good amount of money THEN Konami will invest more money and effort into rush duels in the west. It’s all up to how Americana’s treat the game.
Reminder never get rush information from the main game players they will do anything to look down and hate on rush duel. Get your information from actual rush players.
@@DragonBallsolosyourverse TCG players have committed too much time into learning these overly complex plays and now have the sunk cost fallacy attachment to the game. Rush Duel brings Yugioh back to what made the game fun in the first place
@@DragonBallsolosyourverse Rush is just a completely different format that prioritise battle instead of board presence like constructed format. Calling it casual when it has its own current meta too is very funny.
I’ve been playing Rush Duel in DL now that HEROES are in it and I say it’s way more fun than the OCG/TCG. The main game is not fun anymore and there’s TOO MUCH interaction.
If rush duel had its own currency then I might have gotten more into it, but since it shares gems with speed format, I haven't touched it since launch except to level up characters for their gems.
If rush had its own currency, people would stop playing, because konami would not give enough currency for both formats in 1 event, which would make the life of f2p even worse, not being able to build neither speed or rush decks because theres less gems of each format per month. And yes, saying that konami wouldnt give less gems is wish Full thinking, they would totally halve in order to give half speed and half rush. At least with 1 currency, people can pick whatever they want to buy.
As someone who was excited to play rush duel when it was announced, I think it simply came too late. In the time it took for us to get it, I actually started playing the tcg again and wasn't even interested in playing duel links in any form anymore. No physical english rush duel cards really hurt as well.
As someone who wanted to try Rush Duel before it getting released into Duel Links, I didn't wanted it to be added to Duel Links. And I hoped, it would own game after hearding leaks and year or so before there was leaks about master rule in DL but master rule wasn't added to DL as was released as own game but of course using the same engine. So I hoped it would be the same situation for RD. But then Konami annouced it will be in DL, which made it a little bit wattered down - lowered life points and lowered deck size. But of course at the same time adding skills. Still I enjoy RD in DL. But it probably would be better as seperate game. But then there people claiming that Konami didn't want to have another failed project after Cross Duel. Which could be somewhat true, but Cross Duel failed because of Konami own fault. Cross Duel was already way too greedy, more then DL, or so I heard. It wasn't a new format just in a west, it was a new format worldwide. RD was established in Asia (maybe just in Japan), so it would be new format just in West. And it released only on mobile device. Ok DL started on mobile devices but it latter was relased on PC. Because CD didn't support my previous phone, I could try it only at the end of it's services. Like Konami would haved planned to do the same things for RD game which they were doing for the failed game, instead of planning to do the same things what they are doing to MD? They couldn't learn from MD success to apply some stuff from it to RD game?
I don't mind Rush Duels coming to Duel Links, somehow was a breath of fresh air. The main problem was the currency, for most f2p players avoided expending gems on this new format, i hanged on the cheapest deck available and that was the Tengu deck, took me 3 season to reach KOG but then came the absolute domination of Dragias deck and variations. The first big box was too expensive, when i got my free UR which was the Yamiruler inmediatly became my favorite but still i was avoiding like crazy expending more than 1k gems on any box, then the Heavy Metal minibox came, it was ok, a formidable and affordable deck but i decided to pass. When the Maximum box arrived, instantly became the best box of the format, you could build 3 decks easily, a very good deal indeed. I decided to stuck with the Harpies. The next thing was the Rebels deck that was too OP, annoying and unfair thanks to its skill. I'll give Konami a point on the side of structure decks, the machine deck was my favorite, the magicians gained strong support and the rest sucks balls. Now we got a build box for the Dragias decks which is great actually and i hope we get more of these for the other boss monsters of the protagonists. And let's not forget they halved the gems, if you look the leaks you'll see what i mean. In other words too many wrong decisions made by Konami since the beginning, tried to ammend them but continues to fucked it up as usual.
@@neonoah3353 I know mate, I like Rush duels, Konami wants everybody to play it but can't do anything right in both formats, I welcome good structures and playable decks even if it is behind a paywall as long they continue giving away a first set for free.
Its a shame that the tcg side won't let rush duels be a thing while speed duel is a format that's clearly in a declining state as an alternative format. It would be a nice breath of fresh air to go to a YCS and do a Rush Duel Side Event.
I’ve been playing yugioh since I was 5. Rush Duel feels so much like classic yugioh and it’s so unbelievably fun and addicting. Plus the card full arts are beautiful :)
I have returned to Duel Links specifically for the Rush Duel Format, and I'm having a blast specifically for, ironically, being more restricted since the extra deck is absent rn. Also, I would LOVE Konami to give Rush Duel its proper respect and give us the TCG Rush Duel format. That would make for a very exciting rejuvenation of the Yugioh format, and encourage those that dropped the physical card game (like myself) to return to them... Unfortunately, the closest thing a player of the west could do is either get the video game where we lack the DLC, Duel Links (which is pretty good, but not quite the anime rush duel), or purchase the rush duel import cards and memorize the card effects of EACH card (which is the least convenient method if you ask me)
I do like rush duel a lot in duel links. Im mostly a master duel player, but dipped into links for a bit. Rush duel feels like when the game first came out in a way, simpler, faster, but you still had to do some thinking even with limited options. I return to it when I just want to have some fun and to stop losing to people good at the game.
The game is literally the 9th most successful card game in Asia, and nearly doubled its revenue in the last 3 months (compared to the 3 previous months) … main game Yugioh players really doing everything to spread misinformation. It got own YCS, and actually events with good to great attendance. And that with a big age range, because it’s extremely affordable and easy to get into, but hard to master
i dont think rush duel is doing as badly on the game as you claim, especially since people usually wait for a sale before buying packs and not use the standard overly expensive ones that im pretty sure nobody touches, however i do personally think maximums are a problem that stops me (and maybe others) from fully enjoying the mode, since the opponent can just randomly sack you with a maximum out of nowhere and make you lose an otherwise winnable duel
It was truly a resoundingl success (in ruining duel links). So big in fact it made me completely quit the game but when and IF you complain a storm of people came out of nowhere telling you "hate fun", that it's "the most successful thing ever" (even if they can't provide any proof). Playerbase is at it's lowest point since rush got released, but somehow even if you point out at the actual numbers on steam the rebuttal is "this is mostly a phone game" completely ignoring the fact the trend is there and the biggest portion of the playerbase has always been on phone. I'm not even sure how serious we should be about popularity in JP since they keep rushing out tcgs that are number 1 for a year and then fizzle out, the anime definitely IS popular but that has almost nothing to do with the discussion at hand.
I more so meant failed in areas outside of the Asia exclusive paper card game. The Switch game and Duel Links rush duel have generally been considered flops. Maybe I could've done a better job of conveying that.
@@DuwoYGO I mean, yeah. Cause not everyone got a switch or the patience for something like Duel Links. Specialy with how it was made. I installed duel links to just play rush duel, but gens run out, gashas are an absolute pain and to farm properly i would need to go to the normal duel links that does not interest me. In general duel links is annoying cause even on pc it is a phone game and it shows.
I actually think a lot of those gripes are kind of mitigated at this point. The legends cards are swingy, but there are ways to play around most. Back row removal isn’t too inaccessible so you have a decent chance to clear away widespread before going in. Atk negation like the new negate attack are now ways to halt a maximum otk. The atk drain Harpie card also has shelved to not be run over by just being a massive atk drain. Maximums also have an inherent push pull. All the maximums besides harpies are just a pile of bricks meaning their decks are quite inconsistent. Harpie, meanwhile, is heavily encouraged to play out their harpies and lacks multiple copies of the side pieces so a Harpie maximum is the rarest thing to get sacked by. I’ve been able to play around getting a surprise maximum before and I’ve been able to pinch hit a maximum comeback, so I haven’t reminded them too much except that the mecha one is very otk focused. Also drawing all normal monsters is an unfortunate brick state, but little different to totally bricking out in regular yugioh or drawing all lands in magic. It happens on occasion but it’s not frequent enough to be unplayable. Some decks if anything have little answer to just being set 3 walled which is very aalwkward.
I liked the game on Switch, and the design was pretty on point, I was impressed. I had high hope for this new format to balance the thing I hate with Yugioh nowadays, but well, it seems to go right into the same power creep issue with complex summoning mechanics. I want the game to be slower, but I guess "Rush" fit this format ahah. So, I will not dive into the competitive side of the game, and I will just chill with PVComputer games as they released.
It failed for me when it came to duel links and forces you to use the same currency you’re using to buy the duel links cards. So more then likely you invested into an account that you spent gems on decks for duel links now you gotta choose between the two. Rush should have had its own currency of diamonds or something that is seem less to switch between the two where you can spend rush cards and duel links cards.
I agree. Diving into the rush for the first time i was disappointed to find out the currencies were the same bc i had just gotten done grinding to KoG on speed duel. Makes an already f2p unfriendly game even more so.
I'll be honest your first point aka cost isn't really a reason it failed cuz what you just described is duel links in general. And today's still don't strong. And the leg3 cards is how it is in the paper game too. I think the biggest issue with rush is how simple it is.
Also, I remebered there were hackers adding speed duel card into rush duel. Of course that would have been the case when adding a new format with a different collection. But I don't know how much it impatced to it rd in dl downfall.
5:36 Doesn't really matter when the best tournament legal decks don't even use extra decks. Fusion summoning is fun but its nothing when the format is dominated by reptile waifus. And before a certain nerf, it was all about a deck that was literally about having a bunch of spell that could literally draw you at least half your deck in one turn just to get to a monster that can otk OH ANd before that it was about excutie which is pretty much the closest equivalent to what would be a first modern yugioh archetype would look like which was basically about lv6 that does way too much by themselves.
Out of curiosity, where do you go to find OCG rush duel results? I tried researching it while making this video and couldn’t find much on the meta over there.
@@DuwoYGO Mainly twitter posting topping decklists. There s also the youtub channel named 主に楽しい遊びや趣味を題材に取り上げる動画です who regularly recording tournament gameplay.
What do you mean they don’t use the extra deck? Wonder Fusion was tier 1 before it got hit and Celeb Rose, Magnet Warriors, Gaia, and Praime are seeing competitive success
They just won’t give an actual good way for us to play it over here. They won’t print the actual cards over here, they added it to duel links in the worst way possible by making it another fully priced edition to the game that you now have to split your resources between rush and speed duels, and the switch game is barely talked about so I assume it wasn’t very good.
True, They need cut the price for rush duel deck. i never completed my yggdrago deck because meta in speed duels always changed. It spends a lot gems and real money
no rly Master duel with Syncro Summons are the best from there everything started to go down hill, never like tho whole pendulum side of the game and from there is sht show watching other players summing 100 times in a turn then empty their decks into graveyard and by some unending summoning chain all the cards are back to the deck mean while destroying your entire flield and some even your hand and decks makes the game boring, which that why Rush duel feels refreshing but if u play duel links try to play with packs from Master Duel and 5ds alone and u will notice u will enjoy the game is all the garbage that came after that killed the game
I think that it isn't doing well in the West simply because the main people in the West who play card games aren't Rush Duel's target demographic. That is to say, the game is obviously meant primarily to be a really simple game for kids who aren't focusing as heavily on optimization and competitive viability as what the average Western TCG player is more focused on. Lack of other Extra Deck mechanics is in my opinion the result of wanting the game to have the same feature creep of the mainline series. On top of Konami just favoring Fusion significantly more than every other mechanics. A lot of Rush Duel's design is, for better or worse, far more streamlined. For instance the game currently has no Quick-Play Spells or Counter Traps because in essence both of those are just "Normal Traps but better." The construction of the game is a lot more deliberate and a huge aim of it is, from what I can tell, to keep the game simple and with a restrained power creep. I think that if Rush was given the same amount of attention in the West as it got in Japan (including paper releases) that it certainly would be better received but the overall Yugioh IP just isn't as strong in the West as it is in Japan. In Japan all of the anime series have a degree of popularity that kept the IP relevant to people across the years while in the West the only one with major sticking power is DM (you could argue GX and MAYBE 5D's). The average audience for Yu-Gi-Oh in the west think DM and a style of gameplay similar to Goat Format (though Goat was during GX) and anything that is sufficiently distanced from those are facing an uphill battle among casual audiences. Heck, Konami of America KNOWS this with stuff like rebranding the anime packed themed around WATER monsters that had Nasch as the cover character in Japanese to feature Mako in the US, because "one of the main characters and the primary rival from Zexal" is less relevant in the West than "a minor character who appeared twice in DM."
A lot of negative feedback concerning modern yugioh is excessive complexity and lack of "back and forth gameplay" which is what they tried to address with rush duel, so I disagree with the "target demo" point in that specific instance. Rush duel also looks to highlight DM/GX by featuring iconic cards from those eras as legend cards. The anime point is valid although thats mostly because the west doesn't get the anime alongside the product due to having to translate it and god knows what else. VRAINS was a crunchyroll exclusive for a very long time. If rush was integrated into master duel instead of duel links i believe the game would be much more alive right now.
@@DuwoYGO I highly doubt Rush Duel would be better in Master Duel, since you wouldn’t have the anime factor. In Duel Links you have the storyline of the anime to introduce the characters and the different strategies and summoning mechanics like Maximum summon. What I think you mean is the Master Duel system, in which you can craft cards, is not that pay to win and has a deeper card pool.
I went back to duel links after a couple years, I tried rush duel (they forced me to learn it) and I liked that it was simpler, since I'm a boomer. After that a played a couple more and now I'm already done with that mode. Anyway, cool video
I printed a few proxy rush duel decks to play with friends, and we completely replaced speed duel with rush duel, so yea I think rush duel would be popular if they printed real card's.
Mixed bag of no “real” Western physical release and the unwarranted Stigma it’s received from the western player base for being a “boneless” version of YGO without having given it the light of day Especially from Boomers: “I want YGO without all the unfair and unfun mechanics like back in the day” -Gets YGO that has an emphasis on Tributing and Fusions- “But I don’t want this”
I agree. I was very skeptical about rush until I gave it a shot. It requires skill, just a different type of skill relative to TCG. Unfortunately, nobody asked for Maximum Summon.
@@DuwoYGO I actually very much enjoy Maximum as a mechanic, gives Rush something unique compared to the TCG and seems to take inspiration from similar mechanics like God Link from Duel Masters or Legend / V-Union from Pokemon . I will admit though it is an inconsistent one with exception to Harpies and Yggdrago with the new support from Over Rush Pack 2, but you're probably just better off sticking to Fusion (competitive wise)
Rush duels are fun. Even as someone who plays normal Yu-Gi-Oh competively, its nice to have another format to jump to that isnt just filled with "oops sorry, you went second, so now you gotta watch me go for 30 minutes." Or "oops, nope you cant use any of your monster zones uwu" Also, people were too hard on the sevens anime, to the point that they completely ignored that even in the sub it was a comedy, and also legit asked for 11-12 year olds to be put into life ending situations, that worked with the other seasons because everyone was like, 16-18 or even older. Yuga and his friends legit are 12. They are in elementary school, i dont know why people want to see elementary school kids nearly get game ended, but thats americans for you. Funnily enough, this was only a problem in the west. Also ive seen people who never even played the format just full blown lie about it. Saw a dude say you could get to King of games eaisly if you just keep throwing monsters into defense position and never attack.... When legit with how rush duels work, youll deck out first doing that, and that comment got a lot of likes. I still enjoy rush duels in duel links, i still play the rush duel battle royale game on my switch, and i still have my fingers crossed that we will get the go rush game in English one day. Because, these are fun. It is kinda amusing how this is only really a problem in the west. Though at the same time, it kinda makes sense. Americans just... Dont tend to like cute things that often.
I can't justify using my gems for speed boxes on rush cards it's already hard enough grinding for gems for speed boxes, maybe if there was a different currency I would definitely but as of now I'm just using the cards i get for free to make rush decks
i highly disagree with adding xyz cards in rush duel, keep in mind you can normal summon as many times as you need, level 5's included, now think about archetypes that basically ignore the "rank up magic" spell cards like over half of utopia's card pool you can have 2 utopia monsters IN THE SAME TURN! this is already bad with wind-ups as you would have 2 of their boss monsters in the same turn if you brick with all monsters! so it would be especially bad if you do it for utopia
In rush duels if you draw your better monsters first you win. If you draw a bunch of low level monsters you die. And there aren't enough ways to out big monsters or brick hands.
Good video! I think we can all clearly see that Konami is in its test faze with rush duels in the west. If the west enjoys the game and Konami makes money THEN rush duels will gain much more money invested into it in the west. I hope rush duels does well in the west because I personally find the traditional yugioh format to be a hot mess that is not welcoming for new players
One of the main complaint than duel link player have with rush duel is the box itself delaying the main format and also require gems . Something that i really don't like with rush duel is both the "i draw 5 cards each turn" that basically make you vomit your entire hand in the board each turn and the lack of interaction with your opponent which would prevent you to getting snowball. Your opponent can be in an advantage which you can never recover from. You can also add dumbass skill not once per duel.
i loved rush duels until they added maximum summons because suddenly i have to run a bunch of semi bricky cards that i dont want to play until ive got all of them since that will probably win me the game. i too played harpies because it was cheaper as they were given for free in an event and also harpie is an archetype i genuinely like and its nice to see it shine for once. I just ground i in fact did not pay any money for any of my rush decks which may have helped by experience somewhat. i agree completely with the bad state max monsters put teh game in tho it was quite decent before them imo but i uninstalled duel links when they added that cuz i was pm only playing rush n it stopped being fun when they got added
@@Maseeha171 i dont quite understand this comparison. rush duel turns usually only have 4-5 summons and a good chunk of those monsters are normal monsters.
@@DuwoYGO what I'm trying to say is if I have right harpie or left harpie in hand I didn't want to play it because I want the maximum summon so i can win. at least when i was playing, you could only have 1 of each so its taking away from my 5 cards a turn hand until i manage to draw all of them and it often felt like it really slowed me down, i don't think i once ever actually managed to get it out so i might as well just have played none maximum monsters and just hoped my opponent didn't get there's before i won. if i drew a left or right harpie but no other pieces i was essentially drawing less cards a turn because i had to hold on to a card that did nothing for me, it's the exodia problem, I don't want any of them unless I have all of them. I hope this was clearer.
@@Maseeha171 i don't know what this had to do with anything i said but i love the vanilla game (assuming you don't mean the duel links vanilla game) i just remember what everything does is my solution to the text probelm, u dont really have to read all of it anyway u just have to know the key phrases to look for, a lot of the card text on modern yugioh cards is clarifiers for generally understood mechanics of the game.
Yeah, I wonder what the reason was for them changing that. Maybe to open up deck building more, but having 3 potentially game ending cards in each deck seems a bit overbearing.
@@DuwoYGO From what I have heard when legend cards were limited to just 1 legend card in general, most of the legend cards weren't used. Maybe mostly Monster legend cards where used or maybe some legend trap cards or whatever legend card which was powerful at the time. That's why it was changed to 1 per type.
Rush Duel may not be perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction. The main TCG has been power-crept into complete and total incoherency and oblivion. It needs a hard reset.
“TCG” is translated card game , it for overseas players that cant read japan language text by OCG “official card game” release each new cards and explained card rules games
