Four new Pokemon were revealed in a Pokemon Presents: Raging Bolt, Iron Crown, Archaludon, and Dipplin. While 3 of these Pokemon look like powerful beasts, it may be easy to overlook the tiny lil Dipplin - but don't be deceived! Dipplin has some extremely powerful tools that will completely change how viable certain strategies are...

@@GoinGreninja How is bringing a Pokemon dedicated to making the strategy effective not the same level of commitment and inflexibility?? Lol you know that's a slot where you could have brought a Sandy Shocks with Gravity? Well guess what now you're bringing a Dipplin. All you're saving is a turn of speed control. Except Sandy Shocks can be offensive... it's definitely going to make these strategies a bit more consistent but Shocks+Espathra is pretty common on the ladder this gen and it was actually showcased on this channel. I see a lot more trick room teams but it also has a much better distribution, a wider impact, and longer history. More Pokemon can abuse their high offenses and low speed than Pokemon that can abused low accuracy moves with good stats. I can't name all the trick room setters, there's too many to remember (just got to remember the common ones and which Pokemon can potentially surprise you with TR) but I can name all the gravity setters off of the top of my head: Blissey, Shocks, Wigglytuff...uhhh...and Stonjourner. This new sweet scent intimidate it's cool because it will function a bit more like weather where you can go for certain combos turn one without any setup (doubt there will be a new lillikoal but that's the idea) but it's not going to be that different than bringing an Abomasnow and going for Blizzard except you'll have a little bit more flexibility with the type coverage of the inaccurate moves.
@GoinGreninja
@GoinGreninja Год назад
@@rawkhawk414 Correct. Dipplin can help a lot of Pokémon entirely because it doesn't've to set up the evasiveness lowering on the opponents. That's what I'm talking about. I do think Dipplin is going a bit under the radar, because increasing accuracy by this factor, even temporarily in a Sweet Scent debuff, is going to make a lot of doubles attackers more consistent. Look at attackers using Blizzard without snow/hail or even those new storm moves the Genies got! As a support piece it's completely new - Sweet Scent isn't worth a turn use, but we know Growl isn't worth a turn either. Look at Intimidate. Turn economy is incredibly powerful and flickering the ability via skill swap is one more gimmick in its wheelhouse

Kingambit's simply superior & on the verge of being an Uber thanks to Tera. & if ppl are referring to the single player, then well, it's a, like I said, late game 'mon, so by the time u catch Duraludon, u can probably evolve it soon enuf into its better version w more moves & abilities to utilize & play with. According to the description in the Japanese website, Supersweet Syrup appears to activate only the first time Dipplin is sent out, similar to Scarlet and Violet's version of Intrepid Sword and Dauntless Shield. If this is accurate, then it won't be possible to cycle the effect like you can with Intimidate. The description of Supersweet Syrup on the website says "最初に登場した時", "the first time it enters battle", which exactly matches the wording of the in-game descriptions for Intrepid Sword and Dauntless Shield in Scarlet and Violet in Japanese. In Sword and Shield, the descriptions for Intrepid Sword and Dauntless Shield instead read "登場した時に", "when it enters battle". For reference: Intrepid Sword in Sword and Shield: 登場 したときに 攻撃が 上がる。 (Tōjō shita toki ni kōgeki ga agaru.) Attack increases when it enters battle. Intrepid Sword in Scarlet and Violet: 最初に 登場 したとき 攻撃が 上がる。 (Saisho ni tōjō shita toki kōgeki ga agaru.) Attack increases the first time it enters battle. Supersweet Syrup on the Japanese Scarlet and Violet DLC website: 最初に登場した時、ミツの香りをふりまいて相手の回避率を下げます。 (Saisho ni tōjō shita toki, mitsu no kaori o furimaite aite no kaihiritsu o sagemasu.) The first time it enters battle, it scatters the scent of honey and lowers the target's evasion.
@william_sun

@@hdjd2saucy The English website now also has the information about Supersweet Syrup on Dipplin's page. It says, "When Dipplin first enters battle, the scent of its syrup spreads across the battlefield, lowering the evasiveness of opposing Pokémon." The wording isn't as clear as in the Japanese page, but it still look like it activates only once per battle. As far as its usability, it's clearly intended to be used for doubles where switching out to clear a stat debuff is more costly than in singles.

Evasion and Accuracy are different stats. Evasion is applied on the % chance of a move to miss. Accuracy is applied on the % chance of a move to hit. Decreasing evasion isn't as good as increasing accuracy. If it's only one stage of Evasion I believe it's 1.5% reduced chance to evade ... Which means a 10% chance to miss becomes 5% = 90 accuracy becomes 95. If its 2x boost a 10% chance to evade becomes a 2.5% chance to miss = 90 accuracy becomes 97.5.

"When Dipplin *first* enters battle, the scent of its syrup spreads across the battlefield, lowering the evasiveness of opposing Pokémon." It sounds like it's going to work like Zacian's/Zamazenta's ability, meaning subsequent switches won't lower evasiveness. Abusing inaccurate strong moves like Precipice Blades/Origin Pulse/genies' Storms/Sleep Powder is going to be still somewhat restricted. I think this is much more healthy if this ability does not activate like Intimidate does.

As someone that loved to use gravity + hypnosis combo in Gen 6's triple battles, I can say that reduce opponent's evasion is a powerful idea. (In that team, Sableye used Gravity, Hypno used Trick Room; next turn, Hypnosis). I believe the Grass/Dragon typing with its three 4x resistances and immunity to leech seed and powder moves are more advantageous for a support pokemon, despite the usually crippling 4x weakness to ice and 2x to fairy. @@ninjax9675definitely not. Zacian, the broken doggo's special ability is just +1 attack on entry. That would be the weakest boosting move in the game, doing technically less than Bulk Up, Work Up, or Howl, in terms of utility. No matter how weak the pokemon is, making a powerful effect like TR available on switch-ins would skyrocket that pokemon to top usage rate ESPECIALLY now that the games use dynamic speed control. Meaning you can continue to abuse the pressure of leading in a different kind of speed control turn one with your trick room sweeper and then just swap in your trick room setter on turn one if you need to. It's less broken in singles but still too good. In previous Pokemon games if you used Tailwind or trick room the speed priority for that turn would be adjusted next turn. In other words the speed doubling effect of tailwind and the turn priority reversal all take effect next turn. Now that these changes take effect immediately if a trick room terrain Setter existed you could disrupt any turn you pleased with it in the back.

This topic/video is a perfect demonstration of several aspects that typify the behaviour of the average gamer: a) They’re not very smart or creative: This is painfully obvious when you look through lists of “best builds,” which tend to be short, and haven’t changed in decades. b) They tend to mimic the behaviour of the “popular older boys:” As soon as someone tries something that works well, gamers instantly to start mimic them. They love saying things such as “It’s the new meta!” c) Everything new is “uber” by default: If it’s new, it’s also “OP, broken, the new meta, uber &c…” when in reality (mathematically), it’s not really that special. This is also evident when a new build or “meta” becomes popular, yet it involves a race/class/stats/moves/gear &c that has been available for years. It’s simply because no one ever bothers to try anything new, different, or creative. This also illustrates the pattern of behaviour of gamers’ tendency to mimicking the behaviour of others, instead of thinking for themselves. *This is why people like Foo are special,* because s/he tends to think “outside the box.” They might not all be the best builds, but they’re clever and creative. In the long run (IMO), the ability to think creatively is a far greater asset than simply mimicking the flavour of the month. It may also be worth mentioning that this is how evolution works (as in Darwin, not Pokémon): Occasionally, nature tries something new/random. Sometimes it’s a dud, and sometimes it turns out to be a huge advantage, which increases the chances for survival, so it ends up reproducing and becoming dominant, while the others die off. There’s an interesting bit of math surrounding this, I can’t recall the lecture I heard it in, but it was talking about how rare these random mutations are, and how they tend to be a disadvantage resulting in death, but occasionally it’s a massive game-changing win, which is why you don’t see too many of these random mutations. If everyone in the species did random mutations all the time, you’d all die and go extinct. The risks of mutation are too great. So nature somehow found a way to keep the _possibility_ of mutation, so that the tribe could take advantage of a new discovery when it happens, but to ensure that it doesn’t happen too often, lest it do more harm than good. It was somewhat of a mathematical explanation of _“what is genius, and why is it so rare?”._ Keep up the good work Foo. The community is better for it.

Every new mon this last two generations basically gets 1. A signature move which is usually borderline broken due to often having multiple effects, or being 2 moves combined, and 2. Having signature abilities that are almost always better than most ability, while being unique to them (almost always) which is often a move that triggers for free. Let me guess… Dipplin’s ability probably RAISES evasion on contrary users on entry; doubles will be CANCEROUS with this as a supporting teammate.

You'll probably be disappointed by its bulk. Most likely either between Flapple and Appletun (so something like 90 - 70 - 80) or even worse than Flapple. Which honestly might be for the best, because a meta with Evasion drop + Sleep powder / Hypnosis... Please no.

was looking into G-Max Orbeetle making use of Gravity when I was thinking about doing competitive with Sword/Shield; super happy that I can keep experimenting with the strategies I was thinking of then with Dipplin! Actually even more safe than before because both sides can make use of Gravity but Dipplin will just do it to the opponent.

8:03 minor nitpick, but 85 is much more than decent HP when paired with good defenses. 85 is genuinelt just a really good HP stat. Something like 70-75 id describe as “okay” maybe even as low as 65+ 85 is just a really nice big Hp stat when you have solid good bulk to back it up surprisingly since Hp is different from other base stats and we’d see 85 as ok in other stats Anyways arbitrary rant over lmao

I know for sure it'll get leech seed for extra support so low key kind of excited to not worry about missing leech. I'm not sure if the ability only activates on Dipplins switch in but it would be really neat if it affects every pokemon that switches into it as well. I think that would make it much better but not broken.

I could be wrong but i think Archaludon will keep Stalwart as a hidden ability, 1. because gamefreak have revealed Pokemon without revealing their hidden ability. 2. I don't see gamefreak making a unquie ability just to only give it the unevoled form, that'd be like Battery

Has it been confirmed that Archaludon will have (considerably) higher stats than Duraludon? There are existing evolutions like Scizor and Shedinja who actually have the same or lower base stat total than their pre-evolutions, so I can see Archaludon getting the Scizor treatment, considering Duraludon is already at 535. 550 seems to be around their limit for the general population of Pokemon, so maybe it'll just have more of an optimized distribution instead of a higher BST over Duraludon.
