Very helpful video, Leon! The high relapse rate for alcohol addiction highlights how challenging it can be to overcome. The combination of psychological, social and environmental factors is what makes alcohol addiction so tenacious and relapse-prone for so many people. However, it's important to know that recovery is very achievable with the right treatments and personal commitment.👋❤
I think because adulting is hard, that makes it easier to continue, once you've been drinking since high school and college. No excuses anymore though, we can do this!!
As a creative person I bought into the old glamorous myth when I was younger that "all artists use alcohol or drugs to be creative". However, I quickly found that alcohol was actually inconducive to my creativity (writing). I also drank when I went to bars to alleviate social anxiety that was rooted in being routinely abused verbally and emotionally by my mentally ill mother. I was finally able to connect the dots. Sober since 2016. I think this video is fine as afar as it goes, but I the believe that is most destructive belief surrounding alcohol is that we are more relaxed around others when we drink. The hard reality is that it's true that alcohol works to reduce social anxiety. Unfortunately it makes fools of us in the process. That's what makes it such a cunning drug. Now when I go out I just face the anxiety, act as if I don't have it, and try to focus on others rather than how I come across to them. I still get the social anxiety, but I internally say "Be gone!" and go out anyway. We all have to face our dragons eventually. Another good reason to stop alcohol: it is a DRAMA MAGNET.
@@raymondlin8728 You got this man! Proud of you . I’m starting my journey today after 4 years of daily heavy drinking… Nervous and idk how I’m gonna do this but I’m gonna try.

Day 74 now for me. I dreamt the other night me and my wife had a big row when we were out shopping and I went and bought a can of strong lager ( what I used to drink ) and was drinking it out of my coat pocket like hiding it and taking a swig. I woke up panicking 😂
