It sucks when a favorite band breaks up I'd rather they switch out members if they have to than break up completely

Hi Musician Mastery! This is a bit off subject but I really wanna ask you musicians. Do you think it's okay for a vocalist to have 2 different bands (I honestly like D.I.Y. punk, alt rock, even some folk, trip hop and even hip hop and wanna have a band who can do a bit of everything instead) doing originals? I am new to music and it has been really tough for me this past year to just start, find people who get my vision and keep things consistent. I have broken up with 2 bands, and the collaborative relationships that I've had were a hit and miss, people dangling me a record deal when it was just sexual harassment etc. The only 2 songs that I have are really punk-y and normally with other punkettes, to form a band they tend to be really just punk-y all the way, only sometimes they might try a bit of alt rock? To be honest, I'm trying to have just 1 band to focus on or just to have a bunch of collaborators to work with before I get 1 band apart from juggling my day job/s. Or should I just enter so many bands while trying to run my own songs as solo stuff? Or collaborate with as many people, run my solo stuff and find bandmates where we get each other? Also, I'm kinda starting this at a late age and I'm getting worried that I have no progress eversince I created those 2 songs with the band I have broken up with almost 2 years ago. I'm not sure if you get me, but yeah, I thought maybe I should just ask a musician like you. Thank you.

Hey I know it’s been a while, but this video just showed up in my feed. I’ve started really really late. Bass player most of my life. Been impersonating a guitarist for the last 10 years. Decided to sing because no one else will a few years ago. I’m in a flux with our line up after a really bad choice someone made cost us a _level up_ and that nothing was done about it afterwards, even though they were made aware of the cost….. I’ve been reassessing how I do things, and this is what I’m doing myself. Some suggestions for you: Write everyday - try to write something everyday. Doesn’t have to be a full song, just a couple of lines, some notes in a melody, some chord voicing that you like. Have a clear vision for your music and be able to articulate what you want to achieve. You’ll find people whom that idea resonates with. Make friends and support other bands. Bands come and go, and often you’ll meet people who have some time and headspace to help you out, either on a temporary or maybe even a permanent basis. Get good at what you do. Practice your craft everyday. Treat yourself like an athlete. You are doing physical work, whether it be playing, or singing, or both. Singing especially needs maintenance. If you have half decent vocals, you’ll be able to have a say in what is going on. It’s the one regret I have: not learning to sing at a younger age. While I owned the van, and the PA and was the bass player, and a half decent one at that, I was always, always, always at the mercy of a singer. Now I sing Okish enough to get a few gigs, I’m not bound to someone else’s differences in priorities, or their _less than optimal_ “relationship management” Don’t be afraid to use session musicians. You don’t need the Nashville A Team, nor do you need The Wrecking Crew, but knowing some people you can call on, give them an MP3 and some lead sheets / chord charts is handy to help get your ideas down. I do a little bit of whorl like that at a mate’s studio. I don’t charge a lot, typically a per song rate, to radio ready rough a song out for someone that’s good enough for streaming online, and showcasing your material. Finally, get out and get in front of people. If you’re not gigging. Open mic nights, jam sessions. I would try out for bands, not because I wanted to join them, and I was honest about that with them. I let them know, I was looking for the right chemistry and would do the prep work so as I didn’t waste anyone’s time. It made for some good networking and I often had members who had left the band call me to see if I was available for one of their projects when things hadn’t worked out for that outfit. Also, jam sessions can be like a singles night. You’ll have individuals and incomplete acts that are looking to do something more serious. I have worked in a few projects that have come about from people I have met at jam sessions. This is what I am doing to solidify a line up for my project. Good luck.
