Why Do Creative People LOVE Carl Jung so Much?

"Dangerous?" said Jung, "You're life isn't dangerous..."
He looked out the window into the distance:
"Vietnam was Dangerous... I remember the napalm..."
You looked awkwardly at your feet, as you tend to do, but you had the courage to say it:
"Carl, you didn't fight in Vietnam, you were 79 years old and writing book cope in your little handmade castle in Europe"
It was brave to say it...
But sometimes being brave is stupid...
Carl went literally apesh*t:
"You f**king soyboy
You think you know what it was like?
You think you're hard?
You think war doesn't leave scars?
I took LIVES like yours you maggot...
I spent days huddle in the pouring rain...
You spend days doing graphic design on instagram...
We are not the same"
He punched the wall in fury.
He then went to the press and proceeded to "integrate" several glasses of whiskey.
He growled.
He pulled open the press, and took out a pistol... it was loaded... full metal jacket...
He pointed it at your head.
"I just wanted to know what archetypes to put in my storytelling... please.. don't do this Carl"
He cocked the gun.
He stared with empty eyes.
Suddenly he burst into action.
He pulled your copy of "German Idealism Collected Works: From Hegel to Nietzsche" out of your bag.
He mercilessly unloaded a magazine into it.
Shards of paper were floating in the air.
The smell of sulpher stung your nose.
You were cowering in the corner.
He spoke without looking at you:
"How about that for putting archetypes into stories?"

I've known many an artist that lack the warrior energy. They become pathetic, washed up, and essentially useless to society while their ego plays the whole "look at how noble I am for being a struggling artist in a world of fools" game. I know this deeply as I was also that artist for many years. My father passed away when I was 11 and I never had anyone to teach me how to be a man. One day I had enough, I picked up a shield and a sword and I went to war. War with my inner demons, my addictions, my flabby body, my immature emotions, my lack of self sufficiency. I found good role models and I adhered to what they had to say. I walk with my head held high, my shoulders back and my chest out. I allow nothing to stand in my way and I sacrifice the temporary pleasures of today for a better tomorrow. Fail, fail, and fail again. For failure is the first step to success.

It was absolutely hilarious and then I realised how painfully accurate it is ;O I'm so blind. There really is a vast canyon of difference between me and most people around me, that I was mostly oblivious to, because it always was this way. Damn. I guess my grandma was right after all and I am a bit special hahaha. But it makes perfect sense. Focus of my friendships was always so unsatisfyingly one sided, because there was just no way to help them grasp what am I about or why. I'll never have friends that I can talk with about ideas that my mind swims in. They'd need a decade worth of reading about weird shit, before they are be able to join my babbling. And probably a heroic dose or two on top of that. Ah well, I'll always have the cats.

It's such a double-edged sword position because the isolation can bring profound creation, insights into the cyclical nature of life & the ability to observe and 'see through' the masks of society. However, the isolation makes you prone to what can be rather severe mental health affliction if prolonged and this paradoxically can strain the individuals ability to communicate their new found ideas and creations to the world. I did a study abroad year (from Northern Ireland to Mississippi), what I found fascinating is that Mississippi is the most obese and impoverished state (also consider the racial disparities taking place), one would think that the rate of suicide there would be maybe at the top of the list of the U.S., however, those top ranking positions are actually held by states that are more isolated and lack communities (Wyoming, New Mexico, Montana and Alaska). A reminder to take care of your mental health creatives, the beauty of a new perspective such as a conversation with someone can yield great health.

I don't know man, I hear you, but I've been continually surprised at how I'm able to lure people in, if I gauge their interests correctly. I think more people than we normally assume are into this stuff, but getting that first hit, getting over the initial hurdle, one might need a little push. For example, as you thought about yourself being introverted, I had all this in me, although latently. I had to completely change environment (travel solo to asia), and after that move in with other creative people, live with them for a year, only to realize that this unactualized potential within me was now manifesting. Had I continued in the same routine, I might not have discovered that. surely that is the case for many others. We are unsure to what degree personality is natured or nurtured (lack of good inter-cultural data), and as you know, a single psychedelic dose can knock openness up a full standard deviation. We should probably be careful to essentialize ourselves and think ourselves as existing within these boundaries, I am such and such, I fit into this categories but not this one.. Ultimately these are frameworks, useful ones of course, but lets not mistake the finger for the moon.

The answers are within, someone like Carl Jung simply writes it down.... Truly amazing. Found out through my family lineage that I have heavy arts and engineering throughout different generations. Can you explain all these concepts related to openness, Jung and the collective unconscious to the people who judge and don't understand me? Lol. It's hard when you have a child to care for and a mother that needs your help. I get cranky. I'm not a natural caregiver. I'm a creative. I just want to make my creations. If I don't make anything I feel I am worthless or have failed. Thusly, I fall into depression a lot. When I have to sacrifice this time to give to family and then to work I get very cranky and upset.There needs to be a balance. I naturally reside in the imagination realm , I always have. I try to escape reality when I can. I don't like reality very well at all at times. That is true. I do love nature. But not the matrix. It's a battle for me. And then on the other hand I want to be the best mom for my son and I want to help my mother. I really do. If only there could be two of me.

Hey ! I often tell to friends when they are asking me where Nietzche’s philosophy comes from, what philosophy is the father of Nietzche’s philosophy, I always respond Michel de Montaigne. And it was one of the favorite philosophers of Nietzche. In fact I view Montaigne as the precursor of Nietzche philosophy and also the closest to it in terms of ideas, and not Schopenhauer’s. Montaigne is against book cope, big ideas such as metaphysics, idealism, systems and concepts of thinking, fanatism, the idea of the absolute truth, mocking them and he is also one of the few philosophers at that time that was skeptical about Reason as the base of philosophy. Just like Nietzche, he thought Reason comes from our senses, our body, therefore bound to be imperfect. He favors living experience over studying books. And therefore to create our own « art de vivre » by our own experience, similarly to Nietzche’s thought of creating our own values. What I loved about Montaigne, and so do Nietzche is his absent of fear to make mistakes and to contradict himself as a thinker, he also changes his mind on certain topics throughout his life. Something that so many philosophers are afraid to do, afraid that there house of cards of concepts and reasoning blows apart. He never thinks of himself as some sort of genius philosopher that knows absolute truth, instead he thought of himself as nothing more than a flawed human being. Montaigne actually had a short memory, so he mainly dictated his thoughts to someone that writes for him, just like what Homer did. And that’s what « Essay » is all about. An attempt, an experience, an evaluation to be and to think as a flawed human being in a flawed world. His philosophy was never static, always moving, evolving. It succeeded , it failed, it doubted itself, therefore it perfected through time and living experience. Nietzche viewed his philosophy as full of power, life and vitality, « juiciness » if you call. Hence why he viewed Montaigne’s works and French writings in general as the highest form of philosophy, and not Germans, nor English’s. I definitely recommend to read Montaigne if you like Nietzche, Carl jung etc..
@clintonhaws8984
@clintonhaws8984 2 года назад
You may be right brother; but I would say that Montaigne is his stepfather but Böhme his paterfamilias. Nietzsche was influenced by Schopenhauer, and you don't get Schopenhauer or Schelling or Hegel (!!! Schopenhauer hated Hegel) without Böhme. Nietzsche is a supposedly non-Christian Böhme, methinks, but brother I may be wrong. Schopenhauer definitely knew Böhme, he cites him. Too bad Böhme is so obscure and difficult to understand; Germanic will-philosophy comes from him in the Christian ( and I think proper) mould. God bless!
@nicolaswhitehouse3894
@nicolaswhitehouse3894 2 года назад
@@clintonhaws8984 For sure Nietzche was influenced by Schopenhauer and that without German philosophy in general, starting to Böhme, he wouldn’t have « philosophy with a hammer », aka heavily criticizing German philosophy. (Even though he was somewhat fond of Schopenhauer and Goethe). Also I would say even though Montaigne is the philosophy that is closest to Nietzche in terms of ideas, the idea of « übermensch » as the happiest man alive and the true meaning of life, that is for me the German part of Nietzche philosophy, that came from Goethe, as well as the concept of « will » from Schopenhauer. Interestingly, Nietzsche criticized the metaphysics, but created his own metaphysics, the « will to power », while Montaigne never created one. I would say that is the main difference between Nietzche and Montaigne, Nietzche still thinks partly German, Montaigne thinks purely like a frenchman, so far as to say that it must be impossible to translate those ideas into the other language.

@nicolaswhitehouse3894
@nicolaswhitehouse3894 2 года назад
@@rockshowii Nietzsche has mixed feelings to Spinoza, on the one hand he praised him for his love of reality of earth instead of a perfect world above humans (Christian paradise), on the other he severely criticized his metaphysics in beyond good and evil. Generally speaking, Nietzsche criticized nearly every philosopher, but Montaigne is the only one that he barely criticized.

As a kid I was always imaginative and would make toys out of anything, I remember trying to build an actual life size race car with the leftover woods from my uncles piles at age 9 or 8(built the frame but it couldn’t move. Dint have the slightest of idea about automotive). When I was introduced to stuff I’ll later find out to be comics/manga, I was obsessed with it every time, everyday I would come up with a comic series and sketch it out, I dint have any formal art lessons or writing lessons dint even know wut the art form was but I dint care I just loved drawing and coming up with stuff. Eventually had my drawing book taken by the teacher because I wasn’t focusing in class, my parents heard bout it and forced me to stop drawing. I was still constantly lost in my day dreams tho, that was an issue I wasn’t able to complete get rid off. All this happening before I turned 14. For years I din’t draw but I constantly had a flow of ideas and the urge to draw would constantly force themselves to top and I’ll suppress it by saying it’s too late to start now (comparing my present self to who I would’ve been if I dint stop drawing). After high school I was doing nothing and was lost doing the same boring mindless job everyday. I fell into a mind numbing depression, depression that made the idea of death a senseless ordeal (probably due to my Christian believe) reasoning being “if wut I was feeling was not physically how would killing the physical stop it?” That was under the believe of an afterlife of course. I found my interest to draw coming back, I picked up a pencil and drew everyday for a year straight with a few days off. I started running and working out, got into philosophy and read a few. I don’t know how I managed it but am still here alive and not depressed, tho obsessed with all things art and philosophy. Told my mom I wanted to become an artist and she said I was going to starve to death. Then she told me a story about how my late grandpa told my parents to name me “Chukwudenkai” which could be taken as “God of art”, or“Gods art” . Started a webcomic project, my first comic since I was kid, and I choose this to tackle my philosophical belief and religious ideas. Most times it’s uncertain and chaotic but lately I’ve been having and insane sense of peace and reaffirmation that this is the right path. Like it’s almost Ecstasy like feeling. Dreams have encouraged me to keep at it, to keep drawing especially at my lowest. Am just soo happy to be me

Throughout my life, I find myself attempting to perceive the world in the same way everyone else does. I drift into my imaginary world often; I realize that I am unable to connect with people which leads me into isolation but with that comes the advantage because I end up drowning myself into creativity/ideas/books. At times, it does feel like a curse, but I’ve managed to create a world of my own that even when I am alone … it’s a place where I feel safe at. When it comes to human connection , I will say … I wish people could see me in the way that I see them.

Thankfully, I've been blessed with high Orderliness (sub-trait of Conscientiousness) as a counterpart to my high Openness to Experience. I can't really become overly-obsessed with either the abstract or material world, because I'm naturally compelled to "exist" in both. Working/organizing a material space is just as satisfying for me as deep internal journeys. Honestly, the major takeaway is that work in both realms is creative. We don't have to fixate on typical aesthetic experiences--painting, musical composition, writing(which are eventually forgotten)--because chopping up and stacking wood (which will burn to ash), or mowing a lawn, (which will grow back) or sorting products on a store shelf (which will be removed and purchased), are all creative and productive.

That day he asked me why do I do it, My mom asked me why as well but.......when I tried to think of why I couldn't, it wasn't something I could easily control, although daydreaming was way more interesting to me than class, funny thing is that year I performed at my academic peak. You are the druid of RU-vid. I Love it! You are right about having 2 to 4 hours every day to create. If I'm not producing or songwriting I feel like I've failed at life ( I think creatives put harder standards on ourselves when we work)..or if someone interrupts me I get cranky. I always think about how other artists manage real jobs, dating and friendships because I love music way more than ppl lol I also wonder if the hero's journey applies to artist types at all.. Are we just outside the circle of the collective until we make something useful? What if that never happens? Lol

Have you read 1Q84? I've been trying to understand it because I just recently finished it and I feel like you would love it. Most people I have talked to about it hated the ending but if you look at it in this context it makes at least a little more sense. And Jung is brought up in the last few chapters. It's so funny how I keep getting drawn back to Jung but don't really read him or philosophy or psychology

I used to be big in to sports and a real lad's lad, but was always a creative open type at heart. Went the singer-songwriter route eventually but neglected a lot of stuff from that more athletic side. Thought the gym, running and sports were lame and lame alone for a while. Could do with integrating a more mature version of my past self with my new self. Beginning with some push ups and sit ups.Thanks Uberboyo, this video brought a lot of things together for me. I might sign up for that call when I leave this crazy modern University that surprisingly hasn't stunted my creative side.

Number 1 takeaway for me, we need everyone, and must embrace our individuality for our sake and for the sake of those around us. Future survival in the hands of the brave, rather than whatever type you consider yourself to be. Boldness when combined with sense of purpose defeat the greatest of odds, sooner or later, as you or as others. I’m a few words, be you, no matter what.

We have a lot in common (aside from Irish heritage). As a high openness personality trait bearing individual, I have written 2 memoirs - "The New Lane" (available for purchase online) and "Mommy Issues" (available for download for free on my RU-vid channel). I think you'd find both very interesting. Keep up the good work.
