I got a 2001 Silverado 1500 and that thing is tough as nails. It’s a great truck very comfortable and fun to drive. It’s a 4x4 too. People ask me why I drive it and I tell them I can take this thing where you can’t even dream of taking your car.

I just love trucks, also I have a diesel 1996 F250 with the legendary 7.3l and I don’t tow, but let me say, I love the diesel, the sound, the torque, the smell, I just love it. Also first time owning a long bed truck and I’d actually struggle to go back to a short bed, it’s been so handy to have. I got my toolbox and snowmobile in the bed without much in the way of hanging off the back, and a lot of stuff fits so much better. Also 4x4, I live on a hill and we get some icy icy roads. The salt won’t save you when you start sliding backwards downhill, been there done that. Now I got an air compressor and generator in the bed, doing a solid axle swap shortly just to improve this things off road and ride quality oddly enough. It’s carrying the tools to fix itself haha.

Because standard transmission, simple and tough, RWD, and it's a Ranger. A real truck is bare bones too. The Rangers with 5 spd is the only pickup/ute I actually be willing to own because it handles great for what it is, which in turn is good for daily driving, and there might be stuff that won't fit inside of a car. During winter months, make sure to weigh the bed down with sandbags though, fishtailing is a real problem with owning any pickups that car owners won't realize

If the 2011 is out of your price, I'll let you in on a secret. Ranger's really didn't change structurally from 93 until the end of the run. If you can find a good older Ranger and the fascia of a newer ranger, you can change front ends. It takes some work but you can do it.

I daily drive a 2000 ranger, and it's rare that I haul things, but what alot of people forget is you don't need to haul things to need a pick up. they are very comfortable, easy to drive, honestly pretty good on gas if you don't constantly let into it, they are very reliable, great for work vehicles, and really fun to modify

I love my ranger but being a super cab 4x4 it definitely isn’t the most comfortable lol. With the stiffer shocks the off-road package comes with I can feel EVERY bump. Granted this helps with a towing and hauling a lot, daily driving could be a bit better. Doesn’t do to bad on gas either, I get a consistent 16mpg and am pretty hard on it taking off.

I mean hey, my truck was my first new vehicle and I don't even haul with it. Half the time it's just parked up, but man do I love it! As for a daily? Well, it ticks off all the major things that most people would want, but I feel that it's too slow for me, and it has an auto instead of manual. The difference is that I do haul a fair bit, whether I'm going on weekend trips, or doing work around the house, or grandparents house - it comes in handy a lot. Plus having a large cab, long bed, and 4 liters of displacement makes it a good general purpose vehicle. My daily is just a better vehicle to have for regular usage though. Smaller engine, more passenger space, a bit safer, and very luxurious.
@CoolStuffInWeirdCars
@CoolStuffInWeirdCars 7 лет назад
See, I'd like to have another car as a daily as well that's more practical, although the idea of making some *minor* changes to the Ranger and keeping it going every day is starting to grow on me. Plus, it does sometimes help out having a truck of some sort just to be able to throw stuff in the back if I don't want it in the cab haha. Someday I'll have some sort of 1500 or 2500 truck but today is not that day.

2.5L Rangers like to idle around 800 Rpm when warm. The computer is also programmed to keep the RPMs high (around 1500) to make it easier to quickly shift into gear should you need it to. Also DO NOT pull ANYTHING on that bumper hitch. You will bend it the first time you hit a bump with any sort of trailer. Reese makes a very nice hitch that bolts right up using the bumper mounts for about $100 on Amazon. Best decision I made with my truck.
@JSRMedia

Not every truck is a pickup. There are "suvs" thst are really trucks. (4runner, land cruiser, excursion, jeep, land rover, misc etc) One of those, especially an sr5 (5 speed) 4runner might suit you well. But yeah I agree trucks are epic.

I would assume the third thing would have been fuel economy, which with a 4 cylinder and 5 speed these rangers really are not bad on gas mileage for a truck, honestly its probably about equivalent to a similar year 4 cylinder car... not a particularly efficient vehicle like a civic, but its about the same as something like a subaru or a 4 cylinder Accord.

When you wanna go fishing you can toss your gear in the bed without having to take your rid apart etc!! Around Christmas if you wanna grab a tree toss it in the bed the list goes on it’s bigger and safer
