Why do I feel like I am more free in Mexico? (More freedom in mexico)

I'm in Mexico for a few weeks to explore why I feel more free here. This is a personal opinion and does not apply to everyone. For me, America is a farm for taxpayers that fund wars around the world yet we are constantly distracted with all the shiny new things to buy to realize it. It is depressing. The values, culture and country are in a downward trend. Every country has its problems, but the opportunity to use my dollars where they go much further in another country on the rise is something I want to explore. Mexico is one of many other countries that are rising in influence and quality of life. I don't have a plan for multiple citizenships at this time, but it i something I have floating in my mind going forward and maybe it should be for you too.

You've got a point about the food being organic. Mexico has a lot of old ladies selling vegetables that they grow in their gardens, compare that to all the chemicals these companies be putting in our vegetables here in the US.

I heard the USA got their GMOs in Mexican corn, through a company called Monsanto's (anything for a profit $$$)... basically lowered the quality of the crop and mad Mexico dependent on their product but that's the price Mexico has had to pay as a neighbor to this greedy neighbor.

Ain’t that funny and sad they are money making sheeps. Their food is produced by big corporations, their medical is controlled by big corporations what’s the point of their luxury, by the time they turn 50 they’re already struggling with so many illnesses derived of the manufactured food the consume all their life!… Is that really happiness?

I'm in the Yucatan....very laid back and free of the neoliberal capitalist grind where everyone is stressed to make the money to buy stupid stuff tht will be in a landfill in a few years. Here, people take TIME to learn about you, to help, to smile, to appreciate nature and enjoy their families. Yes, they work hard and they aren't rolling in cash or bling, but I have yet to hear about any violent crime, never had an argument with anyone, never been ripped off, spied on or been called about my car's extended warranty. Also lost 30 lbs due to an avocado & eggs diet and am happier and MORE FREE than I've been in 30 years. Have had excellent healthcare that could have bankrupted me in the US. I'm never going back. America, YOU'RE FIRED.

Noah thank you for visiting Mexico; we are glad to have you! You, like thousands more of your people, are seeking a different way of life, "a better quality of life" in my beloved Mexico. Its good that you are learning Spanish. Its also very good that while in Mexico, you reflect on those reasons that made you leave your land, and move to Mexico. I have to inform you (educate you) that today in Mexico, we the people have more freedom of speech, than they do in the States. I actually, live in the States. And, I am counting the days until, I can return to my mother land. In the States, we are always bombarded with terminology (words) that are so engraved into our subconscious (such as THE LAND FREE, WE ARE GOOD, OTHER COUNTRIES ARE BAD lalala) and, we have learned to believe those things that we have been taught since kinder garden. Boy, were we wrong? In the States you have to be careful with things you say in person (you can easily be accused of harassment, political incorrectness, or of being un-aligned. Even at church nowadays, you have to be pro Israel, otherwise you are just off/bad. Online, you can be censored, tagged, blocked or even lose your accounts if you say something that is perceived to be against the norm. In Mexico, today, people can say whatever is on their minds -even to the president of Mexico, and you will not be censored, you will not be tagged, you will not be blocked. Of course, as a visitor, we expect you to be respectful and to embrace our culture. And yes, in Mexico just like in any other country on this planet there is good people, and not so good people. This is when common sense becomes vital for our well being. So, welcome to Mexico. Be kind and if you learn to love Mexico, Mexico will take you in as one of its own children. Observe, unlearn vicious thoughts/behaviors from back home, respect the culture, enjoy your stay in Mexico, and use common sense. Just remember that when you post something, your audience is the entire world! Take care, now.

5:29 that looks like the Toyota Helix we drove in Honduras. The mission leader told us that in Honduras, they're generally reserved for the military, but the mission offered cash for a new one from the dealer and got it. Money talks, they say ..lol We were driving it up a dirt road near Guinope, (30 min from Tegucigalpa) and a soldier stopped us. We thought he was gonna hassle us about the truck, but turns out that he just wanted a ride. With his fully auto rifle, and his authority, we were glad to be of service. We made a friend that day. Good to know because our mission leader was robbed by a gang shortly before we arrived. Id LOVE to have one here in Kentucky. They're the perfect sized truck for my needs. I prefer a full sized, but also prefer to be able to walk around it in the garage. On another note, the next year we were in Managua Nicaragua. Those trucks were owned by anyone who could afford to buy one. They were everywhere there. We also found out that gangs were ZERO threat to us in Managua. They POLITELY came to us and asked about our reason for being there. We told them we were bringing food and clothing to the children of the barrios, and having tent revivals. They stood (from a distance) outside our services making sure we were safe during our time there. The pastor told us that we would never even see them watching us, but they were there. Pastor explained that the majority of the population was raised Catholic, so it was their penance to God for their crimes. They were called Los Monos. We were given a firm welcome to return to the area (as long as we were with the mission team...). I never went back because I simply couldn't handle the temperature. I lost almost 20 pounds on that mission. We had chicken, eggs and fried plantains every morning for breakfast, but it was simply too hot to eat anything but fruit for the rest of the day. It took me 2 months (and a hospital visit) to get well from it. I still want to return someday, but no more missions during the heat of the day. The morning trips and evening trips were hot but bearable. We took COLD showers to survive. Enjoy your time in southern Mexico. I have friends from Nyarit. They've offered to take me with them sometime to visit. They tell me the culture down there is more calm and relaxed by day and more festive by night. They apparently love indigenous music there. It sounds like a cross between bluegrass and polka

As a Mexican, I don't know why foreigners only visit the southern states of Mexico, the poorest and most marginalized, for them there is only Mexico City, Cancun, Mayas and Oaxaca. They should visit the northern states like their deserts, the turquoise blue beaches. from Baja California surrounded by cacti and deserts, seafood in Sinaloa, the rodeo in Chihuhua, don't be afraid of Mexico, it's not dangerous because it's not our fault that foreigners don't know how to dodge bullets.

It’s not freedom, as americans might say: “Mexicans have their heart in the right place.” In the US no one expects anything from you, in Mexico everyone expects that you always do the right thing, from your own perspective by common sense. Mexico is based in moral, culture and values. The US haves democracy, but doesn’t work in community. Meanwhile Mexico might have corrupt governments, but always works in community. The reason why a foreigner feels free in Mexico, it’s because you become a part of the community, your opinion counts, and people will actually ask you directly for your opinion.

The house your in probably doesn't pass codes. I have friends and family who are architects, YOU DO NEED APPROVED BUILDING PLANS. If mexico didnt have them, there'd be no need for architects or engineers in mexico. They have to pass earthquake codes, the fact the family your staying with didn't bother getting a legal city approval, doesnt mean its done like that allover mexico.

Not every where. If yu dont want to follow the codes you do have the freedom to buy where yu can build as you wish. We've seen the earthquakes everywhere. Not even building codes protect you when the earthquake is a strong one. They have codes in the U.S. and we see houses torn down and swept away in natural disasters. I am from the U.S., born and raised. I left 20+ years ago and I do feel more freedom in Mexico.

The owner said the house has had no issues. It's been there since the 80s. No cracking in any of the concrete which is 98% of the construction. Lots of rebar. Point of my comment on codes was that the government gets involved with making things 'safe' for me and I never asked them to. I don't want or need them to. Goes for many things beyond just building code.
