Always thought that "ABC: Always Be Consumed" is nice and succinct. The alliance role assignments are so bizarre, the community just went for a strategy where the critical do-this-or-everyone-dies mechanic that anyone can participate is arbitrarily limited to a third of the raid in return for ... absolutely nothing. It was pretty dumb back in actual 2.5 and it hasn't gotten better with age as fewer people know how the fight works. If you know how to get in the belly and you're not currently tanking the boss or healing the person currently tanking the boss: get in the damned belly.

I remember one healer dipping from an Aurum Vale run after we inspected our suspiciously squishy tank and found out he just had a Fall Guys sweater as his only armor piece, and said he didn't have anything else he could equip. Healer just kind of stood there for a second and said something like "Sorry, this is going to be absolutely miserable. Good luck!" and left.

@@edensaga_verse I can get that, when I was a new player I was coming off of a lot of free to play mmo's, like Flyff and Perfect World. There wasn't a lot of story to those games, they were super grindy and relied heavily on doing every single quest for level progression. Going to ARR and finding an actual main story and important side story (job quests) for character progression with most other quests being pointless except for the odd item or emote was jarring. FF14 is very different from most other mmo's. The big difference between new players is the attitude, I was willing to learn and change like your friend whereas the Gladiator was incredibly rude and unwilling to listen. Like I genuinely tried to talk him through the importance of the job quests, the gear it gets you, the important skills locked behind the progression, the importance of unlocking the lvl 30 job and he was having none of it and blamed the rest of us for him dying because "optional" content wasn't important.
Me, a non caster explaining slide casting: "You know how if you time it just right you can run or jump while summoning a mount so you are moving while it's summoned? You can do that with spells too."
Me, who has maxed all casters twice (on two different characters): You know when you're teleporting somewhere, and you realize it's the wrong aetheryte? And you move to break the cast but it still finishes it and you get teleported? That.
I always tell people by asking if they have an emote on their hotbar. When you're casting it's greyed out, but once the slidecast window is available it'll light up like normal again.
I have had a 50+ minute heroes gauntlet, where I had to slowly explain every mechanic, multiple times, while the tank would walk 3 steps forward and stop for 30 seconds, blaming his ping. He DC'd at least once. It was his first time so I didn't feel right initiating a vote kick. We wiped on Necromancer once, and Berserker twice. The Healer refused to stand in the ditch to avoid his room wide cleave, said it was dumb. He then complained about how dumb the mechanics were after we finally finished and said he couldn't wait to forget how to do these fights, and the other DPS and I said they usually repeat mechanics later on in similar forms, so you should make sure to remember them. All at 3 am. That was a few months ago, and will easily go down as my worst dungeon experience. Hell, even the 32 minute Heroes Gauntlet on Saturday wasn't that bad, it was just a single pulling tank and we wiped once on Berserker cause the Tank stacked during the rubble phase with the healer. With 2000 of these, you'll eventually get some goobers lol.
God, reminds me of my cursed run of that dungeon. I was tank and the RPR kept teleporting ahead of me to grab ads. I don’t really have a problem with this normally but this guy was extra annoying. Anytime he died on a boss he would say “Sorry, I’m just racist” like it was the funniest joke in the world. On the last boss him and the healer died by stacking while DNC and I survived. Had to wipe due to lack of heals and they then failed the mechanic again. I explained the mechanic and we got to crater and they didn’t do that either. Wasn’t risking a repeat so I explained that one and he said “Thanks Grandpa.” I told him to stop as a new player replaced the DNC. Finally beat the boss and he says “gg gramps” and immediately leaves. I was just mildly annoyed but that was an easy blacklist
oh no, adding that to the bad dungeon list then LOL I feel we'll have more and more instances of 71+ duties with pretty bad players whenever the job skips are on sale; for some reason people who skip refuse to use duty support which would be the perfect way to learn the game at your own pace as you grasp the basics of your job and the stuff enemies throw at you without being a nuisance to anyone. If you don't care for multple jobs you can even never do a dungeon with people at all, only trials. Buy crafted gear, some tome pieces you can afford with the MSQ drops and soon it'll be just poetics, but nope they queue right in and even blame random stuff for it...

@@DacianGradaMusic had the most surreal experience a couple days ago in level roulette, queued into gubal library with a first timer AST in full unglamoured cryptlurker, so obviously job skip. i'm tanking and seriously struggling because he refuses to use anything but regular helios even though i'm the only one taking damage. we get to the demon book, he's eating every AoE, dies on the ice disclosure phase, but we clear anyway thanks to the RDM in our party, and the AST *instantly* leaves. as we're sitting there waiting to kick debating whether it was a DC or deliberate ragequit, i check his search info. 17 jobs at level 80. all of them undoubtedly skips. i check his page on lodestone and see he has shadowbringers msq minions despite never clearing gubal, meaning story skip too. even assuming he got them on sale we're talking over $200 in skips alone, plus the game itself, plus dawntrail pre-order (he had azeyma earrings) i can only assume he migrated from something like WoW where buying skips to current content is the norm, but given how fast he gave up after dying once in a HW dungeon, i doubt he'll survive endwalker content, assuming he'd even sit through the story he has ZERO context for. just baffling.
Remember, not all players who leave a dungeon voluntarily leave due to issues in the dungeon. Some have RL stuff come up and have to leave, some get disconnected (and the party waits a while before booting them), and some are straight out booted for various reasons. Also, CoD has a ridiculously low number of moves. Partly because in FF3, she literally has two moves: Particle Beam and a normal attack. And most of the time, it's particle beam.
They gave her more attacks and a more engaging boss fight in the 3D version. Kinda strange they didn't include her two tendril things in her boss fight.
There are a few attacks that 14 CoD has that are never seen nowadays, such as her super tentacles that spawn during the add phase. They only spawn if the party's damage is too low up to that point, and the tentacles attack the nearest person and apply a million debuffs to them, slowing damage even more, but the amount of damage you need to avoid doing to see them is absolutely massive.
There also have been a number of DDoS attacks that have been causing people to DC recently. I think that is why Mentor Roulette is seeing a lot of fill ins lately.
"Why are you this way" says the violent version of Alphinaud aka. the annoying trope the Japanese masturbate to. The second boss in Dohm Meng (I probably fucked that up, it's the frog guy) is funny with trust when he does that pitfall illusion. Thancred, ninja teleports, Y'shtola doesn't give a shit, Alisaie being the violent bitch she is runs through it to satiate her bloodlust, Alphinaud is cautious as hell, Urianger...is Urianger (I forgot his reaction).
The funny thing though is that the parties Spider actually *filled* into weren't even close to that bad; usually the leaver proves they were the actual dead weight and the runs go smoothly once someone else arrives.

Weirdest thing. I’m on the same world as Spider and we were running that second last dungeon for my bf’s msq and ran into a summoner only single targeting. She had multiple level 90 jobs. She kept triggering aggro for like one piece of trash and then running away with it. Died more than once before we even made it to first boss. My friend was healing but not on a class she was confident with and couldn’t react fast enough to save her. We left and re-queued.
slide casting tip: put an emote somewhere on a hotbar, when that emote is dark grey moving will break the cast, when it turns light grey you are free to roam.
Armor related thing that happened with one of my friends: ".. (Friend)? Where are your pants?" "Accidentally sold it." "... how, there's a buyback" "There's a what?!" and then they got the first pair of pants that dropped in that duty
i've done that with desynth cause it's the only menu in this dang game that doesn't let you filter out things that are in a gear set. i desynthed a bunch of melee gear for jobs i don't play in DF content and went to do tribal quests on SAM only to realize i was nearly naked lmao.
On the 'Tutorial NPCs' thing, that is in the game! If you run a dungeon solo with NPCs, they'll comment on enemy mechanics, encounters and safe spots for attacks; when you've got Named NPCs with you (Scions, story-relevant characters) they'll even do the mechanics differently, showing how different classes can handle different things (and also muck up the mechanics on occasion to show what happens if you stand in the bad; Alisaie is probably the best NPC to take when you want to learn healing, she is *terrible* with mechanics and has died on me several times before because she'll just stand in the bad greeding casts).
Urianger in Malika's Well. He will literally stand in the first boss' AoE's CONSTANTLY, to the point where he will very realistically die and cause a party wipe. it happened to me. i was quite displeased.
Yeah I usually don't leave a dungeon... I think the one time I did, I had to use the bathroom baddly or because we just weren't getting anywhere. I think the only time I really 'raged' was the Hydalean Trial of EW. Not even EX.... but people just could not comprehend the mechanics... I think I stayed in groups like 4 or 5 times and they ran the entire timer down and the last time I was just so done with people not learning the fight when most was simple. And I ended up just doing it with NPCs and did it in the first try.
The only time I’ve ever left a duty was when I somehow ended up in a party with the three only toxic players in the game. They were all friends, I guess, but one of them started berating the tank for the way they were playing, so I stepped in to try and defend them, and then all three of them, including the tank, started going after me. So I was like “Nah. Not dealing with this.” and just left.
never leave a duty.... even if it's become painfull.... like one time where i tank as paladin and the healer die at each boss.... and we have no one to rez... and i end to beat each boss with a samurai that i have kept alive while tanking.... the samurai was playing super well only taking the unavoidable damage was insane. i didn't kick anyone and didn't even say anything bad to the healer.... was only having a blast but it was reallly reallly painfull. and i have countless story like this.... like healer telling me i'm a paladin then i have to heal myself... didn't scream or anything i did basic pull.... one group at the time. did take long to finish... and the healer was screaming at me because i wasn't pulling enough, while refusing to heal me at all. or another time a healer (one more time) that was pulling instead of me...i'm the type to powerpull.... i have often traumatize good healer to push them to them limit... i did save him 1 time, 2 times.....third one did look at him die. strangely even the dps didn't move.
I've never gone past 45 minutes. Not because the group clears before then, but because if I'm coming up on the 30 minute mark and we're not even at the second boss I'm just gonna dip and take the penalty. Call it toxic all you want, but I've got better things to do that sit in a dungeon with people who spam AoEs on bosses for almost an hour when trusts can do it in 20 minutes.
Re: The Final Days The ancients freaked out so much they made the meteors the first time with their creation magic, and Meteion was like "Cool, I like it" and added it to her future apocalypses. Also Hydaelyn used the meteors to remind people they used to be 5 times bigger and 14 times cooler.

Mostly they were setting up for story beats that just ended up getting written out. Endwalker was originally supposed to be 2 expansions, the first of which would have covered everything from the start of the expac through the moon, with a heavy focus on Garlimald. Zenos was being set up to be the big bad of that expansion where we'd cap the story with a climatic battle on the moon. As the development continued and 2 expansions worth of story got merged into one expac, cuts had to be made for runtime and one of those MAJOR cuts was the whole setup with Zenos having visions of the starfall that was being done at the end of Shadowbringers. A lot of content that was being telegraphed in Post-Shadowbringers ended up not getting paid off. The Lunar Primals (reduced to a fleeting mention in and around the tower of Zot), the Starfall as a major connection to the ancients/Azem, the Telophori as an ascendant faction of sundered ascians freed from the yoke of the unsundered, most of Zenos' role in the story, even the proper showdown with Zodiark got heavily cut back in order to make room for everything that happened after our return from the moon.
As a scholar of eld, in 1.0 the meteors and star shower were already a set-in-stone feature of some sort of ancient event related to the echo, which was under investigation by Minfillia, collecting others who experience the starshower as she has. The 1.0 trailer features the player experiencing an echo vision of The Empire's fight with Midgardsormir and the releasing of aether from Silvertear Lake in Mor Dhona, including the spirits, powers, or souls of the primals (or it was a vision from the Echo that the Primals would be some sort of will of the planet). These events were presumably linked in some way. The Echo showed people a star shower and told them to "Hear, Feel, and Think." All these basic plot points were constructed from the very beginning and could not be changed. Now, we have a starshower to remind us of The Final Days, an echo of the past granted to us by Hydaelyn in hopes of planting a seed in various people to overcome despair, especially the soul of a long lost friend. The starshower itself, from when The Final Days first attacked Aetherys, is streaks of Dynamis energy interacting with the currents of Aether above the planet. The Watcher on the moon tells us that there are places that the aether currents are stronger and weaker, and the Dynamis can pass through the weaker areas. Where weaker, the sky would light ablaze. This whole plotline probably wasn't part of the original plan for the starshower at 1.0's initial release, but the visual kinda just had to stay.
I had potentially the worst Snowcloak run of my career. I was leveling my AST and I had a warrior so I got excited that I didn't really need to super heal, but that was my first mistake. the WAR enjoyed grabbing enemy aggro, like, REALLY enjoyed it. He enjoyed it so much that throughout the entire dungeon, the only button he pressed was TOMAHAWK. No mits, no normal damage combo, JUST tomahawk. I didn't even think to leave the dungeon, I was just so completely baffled that the tank was doing this.
That is...baffling. Like, I discovered recently that tank's ranged attack generates tons more threat than the standard attacks, but to use only it is really strange.
I hate Snowcloak as healer. Somehow I always get players who straight up refuse to walk out of the icy winds and that is almost impossible to heal spam against.
Just as an fyi, Warrior doesnt get the button that makes you “not need to super heal” as you said it until level 56, so anything arr theyre just a normal tank
In regards to the Final Days, a friend of mine suggested that the reason there's starshowers is related to the explanation given for why Zodiark was summoned. The Endsong's most obvious physical effect was the stagnation of atmospheric aether currents, and an astral-aligned (aka dark-aspected) primal was necessary to restore their energy. The element of wind is astral, tilted towards darkness. The element of earth, meanwhile, is umbral. Meteion's song screwed up the aether of Etheirys so much all the wind-aspected aether in the atmosphere turned into earth-aspected aether. They weren't actual meteors, it was *literally* raining rocks.
This, basically. The meteors were spontaneously forming above the earth and the sky was, quite literally, on fire. The most common description of Amaurot's final days, besides the abominations, is the sky burning. First its a feeling of dread, something unusual, which caused monsters to appear, and as the monsters grew in number out of control, the land became blighted and the sky began to burn, and finally raining meteors
Queues up as WHM for healer in need. Queue pops, it's Holminster Switch. Get a PLD DRG DNC. DNC is new and in cutscene, DRG emote spam slaps the DNC. Gate drops, PLD is off to the races and so am I to keep up. PLD pulls big, but stacks all of his mit and rotates it poorly. Not like Rampart+Shelltron, it's your classic Rampart+Sentinel+Bulwark kind of stacking. I run out of resources, including Benediciton, before the first wallpull finally dies. DRG and DNC aren't hitting their abilities, and I thought they were going to save for the extra spicy pull before the first boss. I was wrong. PLD pulls to the wall again, stacks mits and poorly rotates them. DNC and DRG do not hit their abilities to boost party damage and extra mit. PLD also continues to stand in aoes, and dies. I cannot salvage this pull, we wipe. I apologize and wait for the three of them to return back to the start. It takes them a bit. They were probably talking shit about me being unable to handle a pull when all they had to do was use their ducking kits and keep out of the bad. 3/4 of the mobs are still alive when we get back to the pull. Had to resort to another use of Benediction on trash cleanup because PLD continued to improperly mit and stand in aoes. We clear the pull, and the PLD plays the 52 vuln pickup game. PLD doesn't mit for tankbusters even with 7 vuln stacks. 3rd dump of Benediction on the tank's gaping chest wound. I have to dump everything to keep this tank upright as WHM. Clear the boss, realize the dungeon was going to take longer than 30 min. I ate the penalty. Additional psychic damage: DNC popped dance partner on the DRG for only 2 seconds on the boss and then immediately took it off. No Tech Step, no Battle Litany, no sharing Eye. Suffering is real.
Oof. I did Holminster as tank the other day. Halfway through the health of the first wall-to-wall pull, I realize the DRG is afk back at the start. I end up burning through most of my mits on the first pull because it took so long. Guy doesn't come back in until we are on the first boss. After boss, DRG runs in the OPPOSITE direction as we leave the boss room. They run all the way back to the start before realizing its the wrong way. I stand in the middle of the path after clearing 1 trash pack just waiting for them to catch back up.
Healed a Brayflox Longstop (hard) once where the monk kept lossing 60% of their health every time a group wide aoe went off when everyone else was only losing 20%. Turns out they were wearing full crafter accessories.
the worst part is, when she finally put gear on it was... Palaka gear. FROM THE DUNGEON. Which means she very well may have not had striking pants/hat and just got extremely lucky with loot
@@Nazuiko when she put them on, they were already glammed over with the Dalmascan Draped Bottoms. this isn't necessarily a counter to your statement, since it's entirely possible she had a pair of those bottoms in her inventory and manually projected over the Palaka pants with a glamour prism. but if that's the case...girl you have no pants, worry about glamour later!! either option is funny to me.
And then cbu3 is like: yeah we're thinking about allowing new players to skip *the whole first arc* for free so they could start with dawntrail. Dawntrail dungeons if they do it: pls not a high lvl duty in a duty roulette😢
Grand Cosmos was my worst dungeon experience too. I wasn't even a mentor back then, but experienced enough to give a few pointers. I was tanking in DRK, and while things were going slowly, it wasnt until the first boss where I noticed that our DNC didn't use Dancer Partner. Whenn I asked them about it, they said someone once told them not to use it... no idea why anyone would say that, but it stuck. I told her that that was just horrible advice and they put it on the other DPS. I don't quite remember just how slow the trash packs were, but it was slow enough. We pull up to the second boss and no one else knows the mechanic obviously, and also just don't learn. Just like you said, if there isn't something right in the moment to tell them what was happening and what to do, they wouldn't do it. Even after I explained it to them between tries, it was still too hard to do. We needed 6 pulls for that boss to go down. At this point I was locked in and didn't want to leave these people to their fates, and also had a bit of a sunken cost phalacy going on, so I stayed when I clearly shouldn't have. The trash packs go fine, but the last boss broke the camel's back. Even though I explained to them that what the blue fire is, how to get rid of it, and not to burn stuff with the red fire, we just couldn't do it. They kept dying time and time again, and as DRK i had too little self sustain to solo the boss after the rest of the team went down. After another 6 pulls that just didn't see any improvement, I was at my end and queued the vote dismiss. 3 seconds later I was in the loading screen, knowing that my last 56 minutes and 53 seconds were complete waste. But I did get this story out of it I guess.
Most times I've seen healers (and also a lot of mentors) bounce is either because they don't like the content or it's going too slow/there's too many mistakes. Sometimes a bit o' both. In the case of the former, especially if you're a mentor, I consider this a bitch move (I believe that's the professional term). Suck it up, grit your teeth, and you do that Aurum Vale or Dzemael run. For the latter, I'd personally stick it out, but depending on the circumstances I can understand if a player leaves. If communication has broken down, or just wasn't there in the first place, and it's looking like you genuinely can't or won't progress, it may be worth calling it. And if you're also dealing with toxic and aggressive player/s, you automatically get a pass, no questions; you don't and shouldn't have to put up with other players who just make you miserable, and I wouldn't blame you for leaving.
honestly only ever seen people either leave instantly at the start, which I usually take as "guess they really hate World of Darkness", or someone disconnects and is eventually booted because waiting 5 minutes for a relog is the limit for what most people will tolerate. But I don't think I've ever seen anyone actively leave in the middle of a dungeon run.
all of the times i left it was either real life stuff came up or my connection was horrible, and in the case of the real life stuff I told the party to kick me because something came up. the only two times where I thought about just bailing was one dungeon where the tank was just talking shit to me the entire time because I wasn't the best healer in the game who eats ultimates for breakfast (after the dungeon was done he fucked off and both the DPS in that run said sorry i had to deal with that) and the other time was when I think tam-tara hard where the sage didn't use Kardia and them and the other DPS (who was a mentor) had a 40 minute argument about it, a half hour into it the sage just alt+f4ed hoping we would just kick him, but the mentor told us not to because it wasn't a DC, and when he came back they continued to argue. the tank and I just sat and watched.
@@afrothekoboldThat's basically why I avoid becoming a mentor. The bad ones ruined it for those who want to actually help. The only time I do register as a mentor is if someone asks to be in the mentor channel (god forbid) and then I resign shortly afterwards. Thankfully, it's only happened once
I absolutely think this week’s increase in backfill was because of the sale on class boosts(especially because so many groups were not super familiar with their kit). I haven’t left an instance yet, not sure what would make me if I ever do
The boosts were recently discounted if i recall, so the massive influx of people single target attacking are probably people who have heard of the game, spent 5 minutes doing the introduction, said '!@#$ this is boring, skipping to the good stuff', boosted to 80, and have no idea what they are doing. 7 mins in, right after first boss screams 'vote kicked' This is also probably why dungeons are taking so long, the new dps just don't know what the hell any of the numbers even mean.
I don't care if someone boosts,just as long as they read their toolkit and have somewhat idea of how to play x class. But I'm sure a lot of these people aren't doing that lol

I don't think she was even pushing buttons.... I mean I literally didn't see any ninjutsu at all aside from her ground aoe. And her attacks were very slow.... even if you are a clicker, I am, you don't have much down time as a ninja.

Hypothesis for why you keep getting Stone Vigil: 40-50 are slooow levels, even with post-game armory bonuses and XP boosting gear, it's just a ten level content drough. Odds are solid that you've long since cleared every sidequest levelling up other jobs. Add onto people wanting to speedrun ARR on alts, and Coerthas being the dreaded MMO drought segment, Stone Vigil comes up more by the sheer weight of probability. Everyone wants to get through those empty levels, and levelling roulette is probably the fastest way to do it, especially as a DPS class. Your other options are Palace of the Dead, FATE grinding, or trusts/command missions, none of which are as time efficient.
Honestly, I kind of prefer command missions for that level range, especially when I was leveling a few tanks. Grab 2 Arcanists and things just kinda explode.
Unfortunately that depends sensitively on the nature of the specific player, which you typically don't know until you offer advice and they tell you where to stick it.

13:14 a really good trick to learn the timing for slide casting, is setting a big emote key that you can see. The moment the emote goes light up to use, then you can move. If it’s darkened, then you’re still casting. Eventually you learn with muscle memory the exact moment, but it’s a good trick when you’re just starting, or changed the internet speed and your latency changed
Spoiler alert: Meteors are significant because that's what unlocks the power of the echo. Apparently, it's basically a trigger for everyone who is a sundered ancient, because they're something that the soul associates with the final days. As for why they appeared during the final days? I'm not completely sure

I usually follow the rules of A=Always belly, B=Belly, C=Choose belly. I have never had a situation where too many people go in belly. And you get out in time to do chains. So worst that can happen is the plants run amok a little on the outside. Whereas belly group not doing their part can wipe you, or worse, take ages.😂
What I tend to do is kinda check roughly how many people have gone into the belly, then usually decide that not enough people are inside and hop in myself as well. Unless I'm specifically alliance A's tank, in which case I will be taking those adds so they don't run around killing healers and stuff.

Im a healer main, If there’s someone with an attitude problem, I’m out. The moment people start fighting, I leave. I won’t say anything, I just quit. Years of WoW has given me zero tolerance for BS
Basically me when we wipe several times (unless I'm running with a sprout, then I stick around). I'm lenient with sprouts but veteran players I'm not. I don't react with hostility either, I just tell them that it's late where I'm at and I leave. Unironically, it's usually the truth, late night here is usually where the cryptid players emerge
Almost every time I've ever had to refill in a dungeon, its not because someone bailed, it's because they disconnected and the group kicks so they can keep going.
It's so weird. The Ninja in Grand Cosmos used Doton a couple of times, so clearly they know what AoE is, but also one of those times was against a single mob, so what was going on...
@@Riplee86 It's possible they're reading older guides from when Doton was actually a potency gain over Raiton if the target stayed in it the full duration, and never once questioned it. I ran into that exact situation in Decumana a while back. Or just think more inputs = more damage.
Well, regarding your question, as someone who left a dungeon today while leveling Astro, being told "Low heals should stick to NPCs instead of REAL players" by the tank after a first wipe does not make me want to stick around and figure out what went wrong.
the average tank is freaking trash and has a head the size of a blimp, I generally will not queue for a roulette unless I or someone in my party is queueing as tank because a bad tank can just make a dungeon absolutely terrible. Source: am a tank main
@@gruforevs I've had tanks that don't use mitigation abilites, tanks that refuse to aoe, and tanks that don't put their stance on, tanks that use all their mitigations abilites on a small trash pull, then they have none for boss don't know whats going on lately.

@@tiffanycosset Well they gotta learn, might as well be there and then. (also because it's one of the first times you need to manage stacks of something and tethers or you just die. Lots of pressure on tanks (with tank swap!) and healers and even dps.

Watching the PLD in the Grand Cosmos run was tough to say the least. Legit just doing 1 2 3, no Atonement, no Holy Spirit. When they used Requiescat, they at least used Confiteor, but then none of the Holy Spirits. Rough

Also, I queue as DPS and I get the most EXs that way if you want to attempt it! I have noticed that a lot of sprouts queue into EXs as healers and tanks. It's risky, you still might see them, but I at least get 1 or 2 a day.
yep, if you can put up with the queue time, its WAY better to play as dps. much more likely to get actually enjoyable content, like raids or extremes. playing tank or healer is basically begging for a one way ticket to praetorium, which im shocked he hasnt seen a lot of

But I also do things around the house and art while I wait, but if I am having good queues, I see 10 roulette within the same time he does as SCH. Though a lot of the times I do get guildhests which makes that time faster. One of my friends has tried mentor roulette as healer/tank and it's been MSQ or low level dungeons. I rarely see a dungeon. It's a lot of 8 man content and fill-ins. Also, DPS is comfy so I don't mind waiting! The highest level EX I have gotten was Shinryu. xD
my leaving a dungeon story the most notable time i ever left a dungeon run was in cider's 'favorite' dungeon, stone vigil. i was doing leveling roulettes at the time to grind lvls on one of my dps jobs. i ended up in a party with a grouped up tank and healer lala's who spend THE ENTIRE DUNGEON rping. taking the time to mid fight type out entire paragraphs and emote. even while the boss (the first one btw) was busy actively killing them while they stood there emoting and typing things. every time the tank would die the healer would WALK over to them, poke them, type out an entire thing about them sleeping (it wasnt a macro cause it changed each time) before then beginning to slow cast res them... we wiped on THE FIRST BOSS 4 times... me and my buddy didnt give a damn that we would be locked out of content for 30 mins at that point... would have been quicker than that literal brain rot of a run.
@@R4d1o4ct1v3_ the issue with that is there really isn't any way to report people for that. The only report option I know of in game is to report people for rmt activity. So it was either suffer it, or leave. If there is a report ability i totally would've.
@@rensenisteros4823 there are options to report people for trolling/harassment/etc, but they just aren't very user friendly. (Square's support/account features seem to have been designed by a high school student in the 90's doing amateur web development on the side xD) You basically have to go to the support elements in the main game menu, find a form and fill it out. - A more paranoid person than me might think it was made difficult on purpose to reduce their CS staff costs :P

I've left a raid I got on roulette before. A Neir raid that after the first two fights I realized there was absolutely no way I was going to finish before I had something to do IRL. I also took an embarrassingly long time to realize AOE actually did more damage _overall._ Just _looking_ at the potencies they seem weaker. I didn't realize they were basically per enemy rather than total until I started looking up information in the community as I started into Endwalker.
I left once (but came back later) in in an alliance raid. I died 3 times and pretty much rage-quit. What happened was that my anxiety got triggered really hard there since I didn't know the content and that made me really angry at myself and everything. I'm not proud of how thing just overwhelmed me and put me into a state of shivering... I can hardly find word to describe that feeling. It's the immense pressure of thinking you are being judged by everybody, even if you know that thats not true. Like you know how you are reacting to people doing things, especially if they are sprouts. It's "whatever" most of the time. But at that moment i had this existential fear, pretty much and my mind converted it into rage to protect me from that fear of being judged for not playing well. That snapped. But I came back 5-10 minutes later, after i calmed down. This was the last time I went into random content without watching a guide beforehand or having it played in duty support once. Knowing whats coming and not getting killed by "random mechanic 300 I didn't know was a thing", is what relieves a lot of that anxiety from me. Only place I don't have that is with my static, but we do content with the mindset of 6 people going in blind and learning along the way. Also those are known people where my mind can't go "They are judging you!", because it knows better.
Watching the Grand Cosmos run, as a RDM main, was painful. Seeing that player hardcast Veraero and Verthunder against a group of enemies, using AOE spells against a boss, using Acceleration and then proceed to cast AOEs; I was starting to pull my hair out
I can't remember if I've ever actually left a duty, but I do remember a time I came very close. It was a run of Dzemael Darkhold, and our tank was being a turd through most of it; not using stances, sometimes not even attacking, trolling in the party chat, the works. I can't remember if he suddenly bailed or if we votekicked him, but we waited for a while for a new tank to show up. Just when we all considered bailing, the healer asked me (a Monk) if I'd be alright trying to tank so we could at least keep going for a while. It was rough going, but we managed to get through and eventually a proper tank showed up before the end.
Out of sheer idle curiosity, was this healer a scholar and did they respond to the tank's nonsense with "I could just stop healing you"? And was the other DPS a summoner?
20ms of latency. Wow. That's what you consider *rough?* My guy, most people my age grew up with 200ms or more on every single game. That was NORMAL. You're literally complaining about 2/100ths of a second.

I once had to explain to someone in The Twinning that AOE was actually higher potency because you were multiplying by the number of targets you were hitting. I despaired that day.
Bad tanks and DPS blame the healers for their faults. There's only so many times someone can greed then blame you before you bounce and find a different party of randos. Sometimes the healer is just bad, but it's always the same story. My skin's thick enough from customer service that I can ignore them, but thats the great healer filter that culls our ranks. Still, after a point I'll leave. Those sorts of people either suck (so might as well not waste my time since we probably won't clear) or are super toxic (and will drive most others off, see previous). Toxic people will always scream that the fault is anyone else's. MMOs, MOBAs, teamshooters, doesn't matter. Never understanding that if every time they play it seems like someone is bringing them down, there's only one constant factor. Or maybe they do realize it and that's why they scream, to convince themselves as much as anyone else.

I left a Seat of Sacrifice Trial once, namely cause one person was trolling the button mash thing and if 1 person fails that you wipe, and we had already wiped like 5 times on it and everyone was getting pissed explaining it as most bare bones as possible
My rule is that I only leave if the rest of the party, or at least a majority of it, agrees that it's not worth trying to finish and starts leaving before me. In mentor roulette, this has only happened a few times, and two of those times were literally Thordan EX with a bunch of sprouts who clearly had no idea what they had signed up for. We still pulled and tried it both times, at which point the sprouts all realized their error and started leaving before the rest of us had to recommend it.

Recently I was due for my regular reminder on how much stone vigil sucks if the healer is still using their starting accessories and has maybe only done braflox's longstop, the one previous level 30+ msq dungeon, since unlocking scholar.
I abandoned a duty exactly twice: -First time people were being loudly and proudly bigoted, and I felt deeply uncomfortable. -Second time I got a call from my brother saying my mom was in the ER after a bike accident. In both cases I felt justified leaving.
I remember a guy calling me slurs back when I was playing the free trial so I didn't know how to report people. For some reason, he thought I was black so I stuck it out until the end of the dungeon. When we finished the dungeon, I said "by the way, the proper word is cracker. I'm like Casper the Friendly Ghost with how white I am." then I promptly left. I'd imagine he felt like an idiot after that and I'm sure he's likely been banned by now by someone else. The other players thought my comeback was pretty funny though. Thankfully, I never had to say that again since that incident occurred. I probably shouldn't have said cracker but I saw no issue with it since I'm white. I could've maybe scared him by speaking in German, though

fyi, without putting on that "Mentor" title, that battle mentor icon will be forced on whenever one queues mentor roulettes. It can stay off on other roulettes & other contents if one intentionally switch that off.This btw, is personal decision of mine since admitting not being good enough for mentoring, more so after recently finished mine 2k mentor roulette runs. 😅 As for healer refill, from me own experience on dungeons, usually when party, either tank or dps, enforces w2w, one might finds a healer who gets overwhelmed & rather leave. Personally admit that healer roles imo the most stressful compared to tanks. That Log Horizon animes did teach me of that: healer is actually the heart & true leader of party, while tanks are more/less meat shields. btw... guess doing Dead Ends dungeon is fun when u're drunk.😂 edit: scratch that! Grand Cosmos is! 🤣
That 8:20 rant is pretty much why I think boss mechanics should hit much harder in ARR and HW, people don't learn if they're not punished, typhoon should be dealing substantially more damage than it does, currently it's just a mild annoyance to a newer player, and probably one that they didn't see coming, because they're looking at their hotbars still.
I've left a duty a few times. The first was actually my first sastasha run, I started out as a healer and didn't know targeting other players is a bit different than targeting npcs (I'm on controller), so I kept targeting the mobs instead of players. Someone wrote "heal??" in chat, and I just left. It was actually kinda traumatic, I've done most of arr dungeons with npcs after that. Other times I left include dps continuously trying to tank, a mentor getting mad at me for not doing a mechanic I didn't know, and a dungeon where people kept standing in the bad and blamed me for not healing enough. There was also a court of troia run when I should've left, but stayed because I wanted to continue the msq. The tank not only did single pulls (lvl 90 dungeon!), but rp walked in between them. And then they didn't wait for my cutscene at the end. I was so pissed
I only ever leave duties for 3 reasons: 1. It's Crystal Tower or LoA, both of which I have literally done hundreds of times and would rather do anything else other than sit through them again (Most common reason) 2. I got an ex trial in mentor roulette and don't want to babysit (has only happened a few times since I haven't bothered to become a mentor again in EW) 3. The party is so insanely awful that the challenge isn't even fun anymore (also rarely happens)
I've noticed many healers leave for two reasons, either tank pulls too much and they can't handle it so they leave or have an attitude and are kicked. Or the opposite where the tank pulls too little and it's a healer who wants big pulls and doesn't want the dungeon to go slow. Another reason is probably an experience player getting low level dungeons and doesn't want to do them so they (for some reason) take a 30 minute queue ban over a dungeon that at max can take 20 minutes
In the healer’s defense… dungeon content is completely brain dead for healers because they have like 1 dps button and 1 dot so when a tank does small pulls it’s just… extremely tedious. With large pulls, there’s a variety of skills they can utilize. So them leaving is kinda ff14’s fault lol
@@cutejustice agreed that pulling small pulls is tedious especially as a healer main myself, but if you are a mentor this is your job to help new players and give them tips, tell them they can pull further if they're comfortable or let them know about their mitigation buttons so they get comfier and comfier and eventually they start doing wall to wall pulls out of instinct. Your job as a mentor isn't to carry new players through content it's to help them learn and understand the game better like how we didn't starting out.

Re: Teaching people the game. As someone who came in right at the end of Endwalker, Duty Support and solo variant dungeons did way more to teach me how to read mechanics than roullettes because failing means you actually have to try again until you get it right instead of getting rezzed through everything by an increasingly annoyed healer. Before I got to SHB I was so worried about being a pain in everyone's ass I'd just watch a guide and stand where I was supposed to without understanding why the mechanic resolved that way.
AOE is worse when there is 3 or less enemies. It is better when there is more than 3. Reasoning is single target does more than double the damage of AOE. So AOE only does more damage when there is enough targets. Single target team wide focus usually instant kills trash while aoe needs like 4 or 5 cycles. Also the reason people are leaving dungeons. It's the WoW community. Anyone who leaves a dungeon is a WoW player. Reasoning is people in the ff14 community never left dungeons for pretty much any reason than your party being full of people who have no idea how to play at the basic level. WoW players are the opposite. They will leave if you wipe a single time, if you look at them wrong, if you have a lalafel in your party, if you insult them for being toxic, or any other reason they refuse to learn the ff14 etiquette. The FF14 etiquette is really just the non wow mmo player etiquette. WoW players are a different community than the general mmo playerbase. A wow player would kick their friends out of their party if they don't understand a mechanic. A ff14 player would teach you how to do it.
It’s not so bad! People for the most part are extremely understandable if you tell them you’re still learning. And if any tank (or dps) ever gives you shit, blacklist them and leave the duty lol Oh yeah and report them too for toxicity.
if i can be real with you.....if you learn to play your class with npcs, you're gonna play like an npc. much better for you in the long run to just full send it in a dungeon with other players. if you fuck up, you fuck up, no big deal. WAY better to fuck up while you're learning and be able to say "sorry, im new to healing, do you have any tips?" than to level your healer to a significant level, feel prepared even though you learned with npcs where there was NO challenge, then go into a dungeon and get your ass handed to you, but now you no longer have the excuse of being new to your role or class.
Don't be nervous. Groups like in this video are a rarity. 95% of the time your runs will be so smooth and braindead you'll be wishing for something to go wrong so you can feel something.
I'm lvling my healers with trusts as well. My confidence was shattered by one shitty run of dd where the tank pulled w2w despite the fact I was struggling and was new to healing in dd. I was hitting all the wrong buttons due to panic caused by the tanks hp going down way too fast, which caused an anxiety spike, making me worse. Got so bad I accidentally insta rezed the dragoon instead of the tank during a boss fight. Props to the party for not abandoning me, but I haven't touched duty finder as a healer since, and that was before Endwalker.
One of the few dungeons i left (technically disbanded) was Wanderers Palace Hard. I was even joining as a filler. The Tanks Weapon was broken(this was before we could repair others) close to the endboss and they simply could not hold any aggro. we tried a few times, but rampaging mobs simply overwhelmed my capacity to heal them all.
How can you stand having all your UI elements stacked up on one side, cutting off your whole right side peripheral vision? It's like playing a game with 60 field of view, it's literally sickening to look at lol.
I've left a dungeon exactly once as a DPS when both the tank and healer were absolute potatoes. Tank refused to stance up, healer was a WHM spamming cure 1. After the second wipe to the first trash pull, I left. Never had a group that horrible before or since.
23:55 I've never left a dungeon, when I tried F14 around Stormblood, I did however have a tank leave due to my "healing" I forgot the name of the dungeon, it's the one with flying eye boss that does strafing runs in the beginning, you kill that boss later on. The tank pulls the first trash, and tanks it out in the open, he gets one shot. I explain to him, he has to pull the mobs into the purple spots to be safe, he replies "No heal=I leave" I tell him again, you have to tank the trash in the purple zones, I can't out heal a ONE SHOT mechanic. So we go again, and he does the same damn thing, and we die again. Before laving he has the gall to say, "do your job healer, I'm putting you on ignore" I've been playing MMOs since the late 1999s, and I've come across a few toxic players, but this guy was just bizarre, I can only imagine what must have gone through his head the next time he did that same dungeon, and probably got told the same thing.
Dzemael Darkhold always gets the worst out of people. There's a reason why it's one of the most hated dungeons. With low level gear everything oneshots you and it's easy to be undergeared in dungeons below 50.
@@gorkashiro3600 That was the name of the dungeon, thank you. I've had DPS yell at me before, while they stood in fire like an idiot, but this experience was just weird. On the bright side, when a new tank dropped in, he was a bit surprised we had not cleared any trash at all, so naturally he asked why the previous tank left, to which one of DPS said, the other tank had to leave for anger management class, and we had a laugh about it. New tank was super chill, and asked me if he could do big pulls, or if I preferred small pulls, I told him medium pulls is fine, and we had a smooth run. Thinking back on the various bad encounters I've had with players over the years in other MMOs, it's rare that words were exchanged, most times I just got kicked from the group/dungeon, and it left me sitting there thinking why? Nobody is dead, I'm healing or DPS just fine 🤷♂
@@lowpinglag yeah that sounds a lot like when I used to play WoW where people would just kick without reason, I don't miss those times at all. I remember once, doing a normal or heroic dungeon in WoW, everything was going fine, but because I was new to my class I didn't have a lot of dps, so the party leader said either me or the other low dmg dps had to go, and they just kicked me without saying a word, it was so stupid, and the run was going smoothly without any wipes, truly the real WoW experience.
I'v only left 1 dungeon as i was leveling a class i wasnt 100% familiar with also didn't care about and i queued into an endwalker dungeon as a non DPS class. Didn't want to subject my team to my horrible misplays.
I'll admit I haven't watched this video yet. I'm just enjoying the irony that my first refresh after watching a video about healers are staging a strike in FFXIV over Dawntrail changes I see this video and thumbnail. I'm curious if that comes up in this video or not.
I think they did this last expansion. The same reddit thread also said the Japanese playerbase prefers healers now, so you'd have a counter protest if it actually happened. From the game's countrymen. So sorry, no green DPS for these people this expansion either. At least they got an extra attack or two to have something of a rotation (if Sage goes through, we may even see the return of multi-dotting healers).
I thought the same thing OP. It would be nice if Yoshi P does address this because telling players to just play hard content or to wait until 8.0 isn’t really a good look. Especially with the position final fantasy as a whole is in right now (iykyk) I will preface by saying this but maybe (hopefully) DT becomes mechanically more interesting for healers. I don’t mind that everyone and their grandmothers are getting healing potencies but I do hope it has something to do with needing heals drastically
