Have you ever got the dental braces on your teeth? If so, why? I started to feel like I should save money for that :( What's the situation in your country?
Hiroko TV I had braces to correct an overbite that I had. Its was super bad and I had to wear rubber bands connecting from my bottom back teeth to my top front. It corrected it a lot and also helped.
I had braces from as long as I can remember to when I was 16. Healthcare takes care of that in pretty much all cases in Germany, therefore you don't see many people with bad teeth here.
When I was 8 years old I got braces to wear overnight so it wouldn't limit my daily life. I've been told that it prevents misgrowing and it looks better when finished. For people in Germany it's quite common to wear braces in your child/teenage life. To be honest, a few years ago I would've considered yaeba teeth as bad, but since I got to know more about Japan and its culture I started to get a sense for it and I wouldn't mind at all. Cheers!
Getting braced is very common here in Korea. I also got braced when in high school. We usually do for dental health or beauty. in addition to that, Whitening is getting popular these days.
I never paid attention to people's clothes, skin health, muscles, teeth, etc etc until I hear people judging those things. Life was so simple as a child.
I am a dentist in the USA. I also lived in Japan for 3 years. I was highly aware of the differences in the two cultures as related to dental awareness. The genetics between Asian and Western teeth aren't really all that different. (In other words, most people aren't born with perfectly straight teeth no matter what their heritage.) But there are huge cultural differences. The US has the highest standard of dental care in the world. People in the US are very harshly judged if they have dental problems. People will judge that you are poor or uneducated if they see you have poor teeth. People here confuse straight teeth with healthy teeth. Straightening your teeth doesn't mean they are healthy, and teeth that aren't straight aren't by definition unhealthy. It's a matter of function at some level, but mostly it's a matter of esthetics. Straight teeth look better to the US eye. And even that's not enough. People have unrealistic expectations when it comes to how white they want their teeth. There is now a huge business in the US to bleach people's teeth to unnatural levels of white.
Interesting...I've never heard that idea. I'm not sure if I agree, but it is a unique view. The problem with it is that most people in the US also have crooked teeth until they get orthodontics. Otherwise, we'd all equally have crooked teeth.
Not as much...Madonna, David Letterman, Mike Tyson, etc. These are all famous people with space between their front teeth. However, most people still don't want that space...known as a diastema.
You're so lucky. Here in Brazil we have free health care including dentistry. However, you can only see a dentist at no cost if your problem is urgent. There's also the possibility of being a test subject for university students but that can have some unintended results. I need to fix my teeth ASAP, but I have no money.
Same where I'm from. I got my teeth fixed when I was a teenager.. Tons of my friends had to get theirs fixed too. I dont remember my parents paying anything lol
You do know that some people are born with straight teeth don't you and maintain straight teeth irrespective of their dental care? The shape of your teeth have nothing to do with wearing braces or how often you visit the dentist.
I love it when Asian Boss compares beauty standards in various parts of Asia to the rest of the world. It's so fascinating to me, and I appreciate the fact that they do it in a way that is not judgmental or condescending. Please keep doing these types of vids!!
In the USA dental health is very serious. It has definitely had a culture impact on me and makes me subconsciously notice anyone with yellow and/or not straight teeth.
Here in Brazil, we do put a lot of care when it comes to our teeth. It is a habit for people to brush their teeth at offices and Mall's restrooms after meal. It is so common that some restrooms have equipped dental floss and mouthwash machines for people to use.
Just FYI non-straight teeth doesn't mean bad health. I've got a fused root so my teeth are somewhat crooked and this could not be fixed with braces (blessing in disguise given the pain my brother went through with his braces). But the dentist always says I've got particularly healthy teeth & gums. I agree with you about yellow teeth though.
What didn't come across well in this video, is that Japanese are very much into personal hygiene and that extends into oral health care. So I think it's fair to say, that they aren't looking for cosmetically perfect teeth...... but definitely into healthy, clean teeth! 🦷🦷🦷
I was so curious about this. I think most Asian for less attention to their teeth compared to Westerners. However, it seems like its more obvious to see the crooked teeth in Japan.
I don't know other asians, but definitely Koreans pay much attention like US , almost every people(especially girls) do their teeth if they have crooked teeth, we consider them as alomst disease. The thing is you do it earlier, it's chaper.
I thought chinese(of course only in developed cities) are really care about their appearance, especially on teeth. When I was in Beijing, almost 50% of the people around me have had their teeth braced, more or less. I personally had my teeth braced. But in Germany, where I work now, there are not so much people brace their teeth. But generally I would say that the Westerner are not very likely to have crooked teeth, that's the reason they don't have to brace their teeth.
黄瓜 Chinese also have many crooked teeth like Japanese ? In Korea, only small number of people(around 10% I think) have crooked teeth(I also don't have crooked teeth), and that's why most people with crooked teeth do brace(not to stand out).
Na Na after all they have a cultural affinity towards appreciating natural imperfections. Take kintsugi for example. Or wabi sabi. You can do the research about those two beliefs. It’s beautiful, to be honest...
that is not true. people spend thousands of dollars in west asia to look perfect on surgeries and pills and hair/makeup products. their perfect is just different from your perfect.
In the US, having crooked teeth is seen as something that can cause future problems so it is quickly corrected with braces at a young age. White teeth are also very encouraged by the media and teeth whitening procedures are common in the big cities (at least where I live)
Idk why people don't like them i mean they make you unique. Not everyone has "cute" crooked teeth. As long as they're not miserably crooked, i think they look good. So yeah don't be ashamed, be proud.
Although braces/Invisalign are purely for aesthetic, it's almost the norm to get them now, here in Canada. I remember I was so scared to get them when I was younger and be made fun of, but a few months later, nearly all my peers had them.
Sooah Joo same. I got them right before entering into high school so I was mortified. But, I had mine off by grade 10 and a lot of my peers started to get them at that time. So it worked out for me... while I was sitting pretty with straight teeth those suckers who made fun of me were wearing braces to prom, lol. But, it's not all for vanity. At least two of my friends who got them were facing some potentially severe problems otherwise. I would have lived, but I would have had my grandmothers buck teeth (like... Really bad buck teeth). I think braces are worth it... Get them done young then you don't have to worry about it ever again.
In Sweden, health and dental care is covered by taxes until you're 20, so there's really no reason to not fix your teeth if they're crooked. Fortunately, I never had to get braces and have always had straight teeth, but I also don't know that many people who _had_ braces.
+Radiodread Depends on where in Sweden you live how long you will have free dental care. In Göteborg (Gothenburg) where I live I have free dental care up to 25 years of age.
Alice Wilde crooked teeth have nothing to do with the diet. You either have them or don't. It's usually a matter of how much space there is in the mouth that determines how straight or crooked your teeth are.
Yeah Hiroko is right. In the UK it is near mandatory (and is the norm) that you have braces in order to have perfect teeth. When you are in secondary school (high school equivalent for other countries), you will see people wearing them for at least 1-3 years depending on how bad their teeth are and it is very unusual to see people not have braces, unless their teeth are naturally perfect. The reason why so many people can have perfect teeth is because the NHS offer braces for free if your teeth dont pass a certain test which dictates if they are 'good' or not. Hope this helps any foreigners reading this.
Dhilan Solanki the same goes for germany. my whole class had braces once when they were between 10 and 14. after those ages its considered embarassing to have them...
This was very interesting to read. I don't think I've seen crooked teeth in the UK, but I have to say that I've seen a lot of people with absolutely horrible/yellow teeth though.
Dhilan Solanki I wouldn't say they are THAT common only for people with really bad teeth or who can afford it. The nhs is actually quite strict in that you must have really bad teeth in order to qualify. I have really overcrowded bottom teeth but wasn't allowed it on the nhs.
I think the more important aspect of getting your teeth fixed is being overlooked; more important than looks. Crowded teeth/crooked teeth are harder to care for. It's really hard to evenly brush or floss severely crowded teeth. It's not uncommon to get cavities at the areas which teeth are pushing against each other, or under pressure from surrounding teeth. So even if you don't care about how they look, your mentality might change when you start losing teeth earlier in life than you expected. It just sucks that it's so expensive.
Exactly. I could have gotten braces as a kid, I didn't care about how my teeth looked. However 10+ years later now they've crowded more and are harder to care for I wish someone had told me the health reasons rather than the cosmetic. Now I'm having to save up thousands to get them fixed. :(
In my country (Canada), I think orthodontics is basically something you just do... and the Gen Y's onwards get it done starting from like 12ish. I know quite a few Gen X's got them as adults. Obviously not everyone can whether by choice or affordability (although plenty have coverage to help), but pretty much everyone I know who have straight teeth had something done.
Candice Nicole Second that. My teeth are slightly misaligned due to late wisdom teeth removal, and my orthodontist tells me how it might impact me when I get older and might lose teeth etc. so I just got braces lol
yah i have braces right now and only my one tooth was crooked and they asked me if i wanted braces and i was a little shocked at first because i never thought it was bad enough to get the whole thing done but now im suffering through braces..
Alysa Lafrance it really is worth it though. I got mine when I was just entering high school and by mid-grade 10 I had them off. At the time I was "upset" (cause of course at at that point you're care a lot about your image), but, after going through it I had straight teeth and wouldn't need to go through a more extensive process in the future or worry about getting my grandmothers buck teeth. Embrace the braces! (and stick to one soft colour of elastics - I made that mistake 😌 - the orange and black mix seem fun for Halloween but when it's over and your next visit is for another month, you just look like you don't brush, lol!)
Bryne Oh yeah that happened to a friend of mine, now her front teeth are smoothed but she just got invisaligne. I had another friend who had to get two of her bottom front teeth removed then braces to straighten everything out. She had quite an interesting gap there for a while... It's incredible what they can do. You raise an interesting question though - I wonder if the Japanese are as vehement about removing wisdom teeth as we are? I loved getting my wisdom teeth out, lol! I was being pampered and I was so high, haha!
Same, in my country when I was younger my classmates and cousins used to bully me for an ugly teeth and then I got 4 teeth extracted + braces. And now it looks perfect
This is why I love Asian Boss! Never afraid to tackle a topic which makes for interesting conversation and shows different views in a respectable manner. I've often wondered why Japanese people more than others (though British ppl seem to have it often too) seem to have crooked teeth. Now it's pretty clear it's simply the high dental fee's required for braces. When everyone around you has a similar look, it doesn't bother but what if prices become affordable and most people start getting braces? Pretty sure their view on crooked teeth will change too.
It's a very "finely tuned" instrument that are made to fit you in specific and on top of that, it's measured in precise "pull" measurements on your teeth so that it doesn't "overdo" it. This requires a lot of "engineering" you could say from professionals. On top of this, you need to go there to have the procedure to put them in, this also takes up time of a professional. In terms of dental *work*, I think it's just high demand and not many people go into it as a job. I have a friend who studied it for 5 years I think and then when she graduated she had no intention of actually working in it. She said she made a huge mistake and it's way complicated and detailed that most people think. I guess you need to have surgical precision for some of the things they do but yeah.. High complexity and low supply of manpower is the most logical reason to me but then what do i know..
@@racecarthedestroyer7192 yep, it's Yaiba. Yaiba = blade. Yaeba = protruding tooth. I'd find it weird if the anime title translates to "The Demon Slayer's Protruding Tooth" 😂
As an American girl growing up, I was never really self conscious of my teeth. When I just learned about yaeba it surprised me a bit and made me smile because my teeth are crooked in that way. For a long while in my childhood, people would ask my if/or when I was going to get braces but I wanted none of it, because I liked my teeth and thought they were unique. Even when I finally went to the dentist for the first time they said "well, your teeth are... crooked in such a perfect way that you're just fine. We don't really recommend braces for you as you don't really need them..." (of course they tried to get me some anyways but again, nah.) I'm kind of prideful of my unique thing, and to know that people consider it cute enough somewhere to give it a name is pretty rad to me.
i had braces for years without even really asking for it, my teeth didn't look that bad, and I find girls with crooked teeth actually cuter than perfect teeth. Society force ppl to look all the same but our imperfections can make us unique and beautiful in our own way. I wish i knew that earlier
I feel this obsession with perfectly straight, perfectly white teeth is more of a typical AMERICAN phenomenon than anything. It's not really that common all over the world. I'm not from Japan, my teeth aren't perfect, but I don't worry that much about it and it hasn't had any real impact in my social interactions with others either. I think Japan should stick to the yaeba-ideal rather than conforming to the american ideals of perfect straight, perfect white because it really doesn't mean anything to oral hygiene. Teeth with a slightly yellow tint does NOT mean that they're "dirty" or diseased in anyway. It just means that they have been discoloured to to certain types of food and drink (smoking can also influence it) bit it's not "dirt", it's just a chemical reaction to the enamel of the teeth. Assuming that teeth are "dirty" because of this is like saying that a sun-bleached hair or sun-tanned skin is "dirty" which is of course ridiculous. The only reason why the perfectly straight, perfectly white has become so idealized in the U.S is in order to keep oral cosmetic dentists in business. It has no basis in health or hygiene whatsoever.
Uhh, I don't think so. White teeth are pretty much idealised everywhere. Ofc it's deemed hygienic since it's much easier to take care of straight teeth. I live in India and the dentists here live really hard lives. My dentist even told me to never pursue dentistry lol. But who doesn't love a set of clean teeth?? It's just that ppl here aren't that self-conscious and don't care, and then again, it costs a lot. I don't think it's a phenomenon that began in the US.
Let me educate you on dental hygiene before you continue to spread falsities to other people. I'm a dental student and I can tell you that yellow teeth isn't exclusively due to a diet high in tannins (tea/coke/coffee). That type of staining from tannins is called extrinsic staining and appear as brown spots on the tooth surface, not generalised yellowing. These extrinsic stains can be easily removed via a scale and polish or microabrasion. You are correct that smoking can cause yellowing of the teeth. The yellowing that the vast majority of people will have is due to the enamel layer of the teeth (which has a white colour) being dissolved by plaque bacteria, revealing the yellow colour of the dentine underneath. Therefore, yellow teeth are a result of poor oral hygiene due to an inability to brush plaque away effectively and consistently.
@@aakashm1 My mom said my teeth are a bit yellow due to the wrong medicine I wasn't supposed to take when I was young. And that same doctor who gave me that medicine pulled out my two front teeth with threads, so I have two a bit crooked rabbit teeth in the front now.😅😅😅 I wonder if I should've my teeth fixed. 🤔
ha ha i am coming my japanese brothers n sisters😝..i am an indian and i have crooked teeth not because i cud'nt afford the dental fee but because i have a phobia of dental incisions..My parents used to pull me to the dentist when i was a kid n i remember running away on the day of dental appointment just because i thought it wud kill me n the result is i am left with crooked smile🤓 and my two other siblings have the best aligned teeth n smile but i don't regret i love my smile and today also people comment on my videos abt having a smile redesign..why though..my teeth are healthy white germ free thats enough for me..its my choice
I’m a hafu. I got my dad’s crooked teeth. Have had braces for 6 years. I hate it. Thanks dad. Edit: update: my teeth are still just as bad and i might have to get one more set of braces even tho i got rid of like 3 in the past 😐 2nd Edit: ok so in total i’m gonna have 6 pairs of braces. Thanks genetics
@@miaomiao07 Yap, I use it every night when I was sleep. How long you use the retainer? I used the removable retainer and I really don't like it because I eat snack often, I can really chew with that kinda retainer. My teeth shifted again and it is noticeable, I planned to get a braces again actually haha. And I think permanent retainer would be the best.
@@a.m.986 haha it is not that bad actually, as long as u could chew normally. But yea having another braces is good idea for more confident at smiling haha
Do you feel surprised if Vietnamese have the same definition of beauty of yaeba :D We consider it is cute and unique, too. But, crooked teeth is of course different
@@senantiasa it's called răng khểnh :D I have yaeba myself and considering to get straight teeth too cause it is better for a dentist to have straight teeth right?
for me having a gingsul teeth is a curse since ppl around me would judge my teeth sometimes but at the same time i could use it as an advantage for self defense
Nggak lah, gingsul must be fixed, my parent pay a lot of money for my new bracelet system. Just two years i got my teet straight.. gingsul means " ga ngurus gigi"
@@andreasvali2322 Itu mah dogiprandibanya... Ya nggak lah, klo "ga ngurus gigi" itu kependekannya "gangrug". Klo dogiprandibanya itu mah hal biasa... Lu tau nggak kepanjangannya dogiprandibanya apa? "dokter gigi perlu uang, jadi banyak alesannya".
It's like that one girl said, my mum also always told me to wear my braces, one day I would be grateful, because it's easier in life if you can make a good first impression. And now I am very thankful to my mum for making me go through this process all those years. Crooked teeth are not only an aesthetic thing for some but can also become a health issue in so many ways. Many people don't realise that various problems with headache and back pain can be the traced back to your teeth.
Crooked teeth are the result of eating *soft* food as a child, e.g., rice and sushi. It is more prevalent in industrialized societies that eat "modern" diets consisting of cooked/processed foods. Without enough pressure from chewing tougher foods, the two halves of the maxilla (i.e., the roof of the mouth) do not expand sideways. It leaves less room for the larger upper teeth as they emerge. It also does not allow the lower teeth to line up against the upper teeth properly nor allow the mandible (i.e., lower jaw) to come forward. That's how you get crooked teeth with a small/receded chin. It is because of the childhood diet.
My teeth are perfect with no use of braces, my chin is also perfect and forward, I don't breathe with my mouth or ever did. As a child I ate rice and beans everyday, not many tough things to chew.... genetics come into play much more.
Um no, genetics and environmental factors play a role. Mouth breathing like the other commenter said they didn’t do, does damage to your jaw and alignment. Early tooth loss also plays a major role in teeth crowding and misalignment. Using a pacifier and bottles past a certain age does damage as well.
In Canada, I think especially if you work in as a professional (lawyer, accountant, etc) in big offices, it is very important. Many student in my faculty had their teeth fixed and then whiten before big interviews, because it gives a better impression. My teeth were partially fixed during my childhood but they still aren’t perfect and I used to feel self conscious about it. I don’t anymore because I’m not surrounded with teeth obsessed people anymore, but I definitely understand the pressure one can feel to make the move. It’s even a sign of economic status or success because it’s incredibly expensive!
In my country (Netherlands) most kids between 10-15 have braces because a good looking set of choppers is important to us. Judging by the comments it's a very western thing to obsess over straight teeth. Dating here with bad teeth is almost impossible. With the exception of Asian people then crooked teeth are accepted. It's sounds weird but that's what I have noticed here haha
I naturally have crooked teeth and i love it. I used to be really conscious about it. And people around me didn't say anything to boost my confidence either. I am an Indian and I don't know many of my acquiantance who like crooked teeth. They would pass comments. My dad wouldn't let me get my teeth fixed though. He said he loved that imperfection. I was still very conscious about how it looked. Years passed, i don't know what happened, but I too fell in love with my crooked teeth too. It made me feel different and unique. Even today, there are people who say that my teeth are weird. But there are others who love my smile because of my crooked teeth. Bottomline is that beauty is subjective. Just be confident in yourself. I think imperfections are beautiful. "Perfection" is overrated IMO. I wouldn't get my teeth fixed if someone even paid me now.😎 And I love people who have crooked teeth and can carry it off confidently.
ZinZ Nancy B good for you to think like that i find imperfections to be beautiful in people and i see crooked teeth to be very cute ... you know even if you have acne and didn't put anything on your face to hide it .. i find this very attractive because it makes you more confident ... smile widely and don't hide your teeth be confident and don't care about people because people have different standards .. love yourself the way you are ♡
I really love this comment. I have experienced this too. I once hated my crooked teeth so much thinking how having crooked teeth makes me ugly but one day looking at the mirror, I tried to smile genuinely and that's how I fell in love with myself, my own imperfection. Having a crooked teeth makes me unique and beautiful because I know deep inside me that this is the REAL me.
Gurl i luv you for this comment ..Thankyou so much !! i also have crooked teeths which sometimes make me feel insecure about my smile but after reading this..it just boost my confidence !! you're right we should love ourselves as the way we are.💙
I have considered really bad crooked teeth (I don't care because as long as I can eat my teeth are good). I cover my mouth when I laugh not because of my teeth but I see it as respect to cover your mouth when doing so.
I have yaeba teeth and I never hated it because it looks like vampire teeth actually people had confused them for fake vampire teeth before which makes me kinda proud...but my family hates them and comments on them often. once I found out they are considered cute in japan I felt much better about having them : )
It's amazing how cultures can be so different In Thailand, having braces considered cute because when you have braces you change the way you smile and your accent changed too. And we normally get braces when we're in middle or high school and that's different from America, I think.. ps. I have heard that having braces seems nerdy in some other countries
I think that is the best part about Japanese features. It makes their smile beautiful and makes them looks cute. I still remember of wanting crooked tooth like japanese people when i was a child. i used to tell my mom.
@@Empyrean_Enigma everybody is different for a reason - to call a group for 1 small thing different like it is a big deal is meh. >"Oh wait you probably never learned it in the first place." i don't know why you are implying I am uneducated as a response to such a bland comment?
Here in the U.K most kids get braces (and retainers after your braces are taken off) for free under the NHS if your teeth aren't straight. If you have only slight misalignment though and there's really no need for you to have them fixed, you'd have to get braces done privately if you desperately want perfectly straight teeth.
in my country Morrocco we don't actually pay a big attention to the crooked teeth even in the job, and about the video i think crooked teeth are not that bad, i mean they are some japanese who look cute and beautiful with their crooked teeth , the most important is to take care of your teeth and to brush them everyday^^
Black Widow it's Haram to pluck eyebrows/ darken them/tattoos/ fake hair &fake nails/body piercings except ears&nose/wearing scented perfume/ plastic surgery/ also fixing teeth because you are changing the creation of Allah unless if there is a medical issue
No honey they may be exagerating but fixing your crooked teeth is not Haram at all.. stuffs that are forbidden (haram) are what may hurt you or someone else and I don't see anything harmful... can I ask you a question? Where are you from ??
@mademoiselle - Omg, that is so misinformed. Fixing a fault is not haram. Please don't assume things or come to your own conclusions. It's allowed to have cosmetic procedures or surgeries that fix birth defects. I'm a muslim and I had braces in the past to fix my teeth. Seriously.
I personally also think yaeba is really cute. Some Hollywood Idols have it and it gives a certain unique vibe to them. I've lived several years in Brazil and now I live in Gernany. And for what I've experienced, children get their teeth done very early in both countries. Although in Brazil the procedure really is expensive, even people with less money pay for it. Sometimes even adults still have braces as they can first afford it when they work themselves. I think this says a lot about the country's standard. As for in Germany, I experienced a rare situation, when a myself got my teeth done. The doctor told me that I should maybe think twice as the "flaw" was minimal and not necessarily a flaw. "It just made me unique in my own way." Looking back I think this should be something every doctor should say to a patient wanting to undergo a beauty procedure. Especially childreen should be told that a lot more often.
im korean, and i heard from my parents that in japan, theres this genetic where it makes them have slightly offsetting teeth so like generally japan people saying that "they don't really care how bad people's teeth looks" its actually true because they been like that for so long so its regarded as natural and not as a bad beauty standard or whatnot.
I currently have invaligns on - it will take me 8-9months to achieve straight teeth. I’m Korean born in America, so it’s a weird conflicting feeling to be held to American standards as an Asian. It is shocking how it has taken 6 years and more for the girl to wear braces...if she’s paying per phase...I’m wondering, is she getting ripped off??? But I Stan these people just embracing themselves and finding peace and beauty within their physical “flaws.” Indeed, our “imperfections” are not flaws, but are beautiful. Much to learn.
That moment when you find out your teeth are considered yaeba 😳 I'm from the US and I cannot afford braces. When I was a kid I was envious of my friends who did have them. I'm 22 now and I've come to love my imperfect teeth. I love my sharp canines and how cute they look. It does suck how obsessed the US is with straight teeth.
If you have a small head it's only natural that you don't have much space in your mouth for your teeth to set in perfectly. I've got a big head so my teeth are naturally pretty straight without having to use braces, plus I even have space for my wisdom teeth.
i have a small head so when I lost my two front teeth at the same time there was not enough space that they pushed each other out XD I would love to get braces but I'm pretty sure my teeth can't be fixed with just that
I agree. I really have a small mouth and I don't have the normal number of teeth due to this. I had 4 extracted and fixed but as I got older they went back to a bit crooked. No idea why my teeth keeps moving to the front.
That makes sense. My mouth is pretty tiny and my teeth are too so they can't handle my wisdom teeth that's actually growing in my right now. Even my braces look like they're too big for my teeth
In Brazil your teeth needs to be perfect and healthy. It's normal to go to the dentist regularly and a lot of kids/teens wear braces. My parents always told me I had to take care of my teeth because that's the first thing people will notice on me
i am japanese american and i always wondered this as well so thank you for doing this video. i could never bring myself to ask my japanese cousins who were born and raised in japan why japanese have such bad teeth, not only just crooked, but very discolored as well. i always thought americans drank coffee so should have more staining than japanese who drink tea, yet americans seem to not have as much discoloration. and i know japan has whitening toothpaste. i also wanna know why teeth are of little aesthetic importance in japan seeing as how everything else superficially is, such as having white skin, double eyelids, fashion, makeup, etc. why is teeth not included in the aesthetic beauty category in japan? is it because they hide their teeth when they laugh, so they don't see the need to make them nice, because they don't have to show them? are teeth seen as just a chewing tool there? do japanese get biannual teeth cleanings/checkups and are they covered by insurance? also, why did that girl have braces for 6 years? is it because orthodontia isn't perfected there? that's a really long time to have braces. my braces took two years and i had really bad teeth... yaeba, multiple exractions, headgear, rubber bands for the underbite, etc. this was because i have the smallest mouth and hugest teeth on the planet. if orthdontia isn't perfected there, i wonder why, because japan is really cutting edge in most other fields, especially medicine. but then again, japan is full of contradictions because cash is still preferred over credit cards and many hotels use physical door keys instead of cards keys. i guess japan picks and chooses what they want to be advanced in? also, i don't think cost is an issue because japanese have no problem staying at $500/night hotels in hawaii and scooping up LV and Hermes bags.
You think too much lol Imo they just don't care about it as much as American, UK and some European country oh also South Korea. Generally in Southeast Asia we don't really care as well.
I luv Japan cuz it`s a mix of conservative and modern. Fixing teeth should be a priority though cuz people are superficial and they will be judged abroad.
You sound like me when I first got to Japan. A lot of people told me that showing the mouth is not pretty which explains hiding it while eating, laughing and some when talking, too. It’s definitely not about the money cuz when they want to get something pricey, they get it. All I know is that many only visit dentists when they’re in pain. Shame as halitosis is huge but they don’t seem to care about it either.
i guess teeth are not included in something they first notice in a person. i guess their eyes only look at skin, clothes, and LV bag when they first meet someone lol
My grandparents, cousins, and other relatives who were born and raised in different parts of japan told me that dentistry says "your teeth should be the same color as your skin." Surprised me also
_The Japanese 🇯🇵🇯🇵🇯🇵 must have not yet learned how to _*_MEW._*_ Mewing helps straighten teeth and enhance overall facial profile naturally._ What is *MEWING* (orthotropics)? In short, to mew is to place tongue in palate (roof of the mouth), close lips together and breathe through nose.
Wait... That's a healthy thing to do? My whole life I have felt like a weirdo for my tongue naturally resting on my palate, and thought that I was doing something wrong! This comment just changed everything wow. I'm glad I just naturally do this haha
i'am an indian ... and i personally like that 'yaeba' concept.. my sister was cute when she had perfect teeth at the time when she was very small...but as her teeth started to fall off, one of her canines grew abnormally.. and now she is cuter than before.. P.S - love japan and anime..
In Europe, I guess it's a mix between Japan and US... It's important to have healthy teeth, not too crooked. But we're not as judgmental as the US seems to be. By the way, we all know that it's definitely easier to find a work if you look good (which includes teeth in Europe). I had to wear braces for 6 years when I was a child (or I would have to standard bad crooked teeth), and almost everyone one I know had to wear it during school or high school, it's so common here. Great interview !
Crooked teeth is a direct result of the modern human's diet. If you look at skulls of people from just 500 years ago, they invariably possessed straight teeth. The ''crooked'' teeth phenomena has come about due to a narrowing of the jaw bone and demonstrates the power of evolution of even relatively small time spans.
I'm from Italy and dental care is definetly something we pay attention to.. Especially for the upcoming generations. It is also very expensive so not everyone can afford it since a young age but my parents were really concerned for my teeth health as much as they were for my eyes and body health in general So they payed a lot of money for it. And I'm grateful nowadays
It' seen as something disgusting if you have crooked teeth either in my homecountry Russia or here in my second home Germany. Personally, I think, yaeba is cute but very bad teeth aren't good... also for your health not only for beauty standards
Straight teeth is a pretty big deal where I live in the West. I live in the US. I grew up as a thumb sucker and it gave me a bad overbite so my teeth formed into a triangle where my overbite is. It made me uncomfortable to smile showing my teeth and it gave me a huge lisp. Right now, I'm currently 19 with braces, and I ended up having them put on when I was 16. My teeth are pretty much straight right now, but I still have the top of my jaw pushed out a little over the bottom row of my teeth. People ask me how long have I had them on and when I say 3 years, they freak out and act so shocked. Imagine how they would react to the girl that said 6 years in the vid haha. In order for my jaw to be completely fixed, I'll need to go through an expensive surgery but in my eyes, my teeth problem is not really THAT deep for me to have to do all that. Yes, it's so my teeth can end up as precisely straight as possible. And everyone around me is nagging me to do it. But I currently have a super decent smile, and that's ALL I need. I'm satisfied now. But my whole point of this rant is to show you guys, how serious people take straight teeth here. If people in other countries can live with crooked teeth, then so can I with my current decent set of teeth.
Cheyanne Duvall Maybe so. I live in a big city in the US. Places like NY, LA, etc. must be more concentrated on teeth versus smaller towns where everyone lives much more comfortably so it's not a primary focus appearance-wise.
animetwilight75 yeah, all those people had braces at one point. Usually it's normal for elementary/middle school kids to have braces. By high school they've already got straight teeth. That's how it is here
Japanese girls are the exception in the world. They can have crooked teeth still be cute. They can have small lips and still be cute. Japanese girls don't need to follow Western beauty standards because it's those features that make them cute and desirable, not only to Japanese people but also to Western people. We really don't need more girls with insecurities by comparing them to different beauty standards, when those standards don't really apply to them in the first place.
What everyone has to understand is that if you have had anything done to your teeth, it’s fake teeth, Japanese just like natural, what’s wrong with that?
I used to have exactly that kind of crooked teeth, and I didn’t know that was considered cute anywhere. No wonder in college, some exchanged students used to think of me as beautiful 😂, even my friend that looked like a Model was surprised, because they never mention anything of her obvious beauty. Also, one guy waitress told me I had a beautiful smile, and that I had tiger teeth, he said 😂. Amazing!
In spain there are two kinds of childs: - The poor family guy that can't have his teeth repaired because here it costs an insane amount of money to go to the dentist. - The rich family guy that since he was born went to the dentist and brags a lot about how nice are his fathers for putting on him such a nice smile.
Ortodontics are expensive , and some of theese kids , straighten theirs after they start working when older . But most parents try to afford it if it is really necesary , and not only for stetics .
Here in Brazil, if you have crooked teeth this is reason for bullying. Too much bullying. For many years I just smiled with my hand in front of my mouth because I have a much smaller tooth than the others and it is right in front. People don't think twice before they put you down here in Brazil. I grew up and realized how ridiculous this is. Nowadays, I love my crooked teeth as they are and even find them a charm, a bit sexy ... Here in Brazil everyone's goal is to have an extremely white and straight tooth. People do crazy about white teeth here. It is beautiful to see that in Japan they reinvented a dental goal. I felt well represented, what a beautiful interview ❤️
Getting braces was the norm here. I remember kids getting them throughout elementary school to highschool (and after that too). I had extremely crooked teeth (at least in Canada), including the yaeba fangs. I remember being made fun of because of my teeth, and being so insecure about them. I got braces in highschool, and now have perfect teeth though. It's straight cause my former teeth basically look like most of the interviewees teeth in this video, and I wonder if I wouldn't have been as insecure about them if i were in japan ..
I actually really like the smile on the lady with the very light pink peacoat/ short red/brown hair. I think her upper teeth have a really cute slight overbite & the way it makes her face looks when she speaks is quite unique.
can i get 5,000 subscribers without any videos? Actually subconsciously it is, humans are attracted instinctively to healthy humans... and teeth placement is partly due to tongue posture and good skull development, the color is partly a consequence of lifestyle (smoking, drinking etc). Of course it’s also partly genetic and sometimes people can’t do anything about it but yeah it’s a sign of health and hygiene anyway
can i get 5,000 subscribers without any videos? • but the chances of getting problems are higher, since it’s harder to clean and teeth sticking out are more prone to chipping.
@@BELIEVER78989 Not really. Because I’m not insulting him or his actual smile-I really don’t think that’s his actual smile, and he didn’t seem all that enthused. Now if that really was his true smile, I apologize; I meant no offense to that man.
