Crochet and knitwear designers often get asked why all of their patterns and content aren't always available for free. This video will hopefully help put those questions to rest and give you guys a little more insight on how much work goes into making and designing a pattern!

This completely changed my outlook on patterns! I don’t mind reading off a blog but I may buy the pdf now just to support people’s work

Designers don't even charge a whole heck of a lot for patterns. I don't understand why some people would be so rude and cheap. Most designers still offer a few free patterns.

Brilliant!! Thank you for taking the time to put this together. So many people underprice themselves or feel guilty about charging. Our time is worth it. xoxo

Thanks for this! I always try to explain that ultimately when you are buying a pattern from any designer, you are paying for their talent and skill set. No one expects a fabric pattern company to just hand out free patterns, yet for some reason crochet and knit patterns are expected to be given away? It is crazy that people expect designers to work for free.......

The good news is that now we have finally opened up the dialogue about this issue and can help educate people and spread the word!

Wow!! You said it woman!!! I used to see paid patterns, a long long time ago, and wondered why people would charge for something like that. I changed my tune when I started designing. I NEVER realized the work. Obviously, we all have a love for crocheting and knitting, it’s our passion...but it’s still something we’ve chosen to do enough that we need to make some money from it. I totally understand the pdf thing. Why would someone give you a hard time...EVERYONE does that! Lol. Good Luck with everything you do 👍🏻👍🏻😉 oh love your patterns too btw! ☺️

Taylor, great video...hahahaha! I shared it to several different groups! Some people need an education on how much work actually goes into a pattern. Thank you very much for tackling this issue. I appreciate it.

Very informative video. I’ve just started reading patterns since joining this fantastic group. My goal is to one day design a pattern. I have great respect and admiration for all the talent and effort that goes into creating patterns and fully understand the pricing aspect. Y’all are the most supportive group; you give of your time and talent daily to help each of us grow and I thank you!

Great video! I know I don’t want to design patterns, so I’m happy to use a free blog pattern or just purchase.

Which is why a lot of designers, like myself, offer free versions on our blogs with ads. We want to share our patterns with as many people as possible, but that doesn't mean some patterns won't cost money at times. We deserve to be paid for the hard work we do :)
