What gets me, as a female introvert, is when random people walk up and tell me to smile. Like I'm supposed to have an idiotic smile constantly plastered on my face.

I agree. Some people are disturbed by our ability to be content being by ourselves so they do everything to disrupt our peace.

I have a friend who talks to EVERY SINGLE PERSON in a store. I'm like, nope, I ain't going shopping with you again. Too much interaction with too many people. I'd like to go in, buy what we need, and get out.

As a black female in the workplace, I am always polite and respectful but always get harassed (bullied) for being too quiet. Because being too quiet is obviously a crime and an offense 🙄 😆

There are people who i think are afraid to be alone with their thoughts. And they resent others NOT being afraid to be alone with their's.

This is SO TRUE!!!!! I will be sitting with shades on, earphones, and scrolling on my phone, SOME NEEDY, ATTENTION SEEKING HUMAN will pick me out of the entire park to talk to!!! Mind you, the park is full of people. However, I somehow am the one to be bothered! Or, there are empty seats all around. Someone will.come sit RIGHT NEXT TO ME and stare! I just get up and move. Humans are so annoying.

This ALWAYS happens to me. I can be in my car, parked in the middle of nowhere, and here comes someone parking RIGHT NEXT TO ME instead of pulling into one the the other 100 spaces available. I talked to another guy (introvert) who said the exact thing. Perhaps, it is our energy. Wish I knew. 🤷🏽‍♀️

At all my previous jobs, I'd have lunch on my own in a far away break room. I'd take the lunch tray from the cafeteria to this place, so in my mind I was being a loud introvert 'look at me walking away from you all to be alone because I'm an introvert!' A few people would come in, say hi, sit down, read their book or eat their food in the corner. Perfectly fine. But others .... they'd come and sit next to me, with their sandwich and drink, and they'll start talking ... eating loudly ... talking ... drinking loudly ... talking more, while I'm there begging in silence for them to leave me alone because I'm recharging here, leave me alone!

Them: "You're so quiet" Me: "Yes. I don't do trivial, meaningless conversations. So, do you have anything valid to say?" Them: 😶...🚶🏽‍♀️🚶🏽‍♀️🚶🏽‍♀️

It's an evil spirit. Here's another thing you can do. I hold up my cell phone and hit record and this usually stops it. They KNOW exactly what they are doing. I was alone on the beach and saw a guy coming my way and I help up my phone to record him. He immediately turned around and left. Everytime I do this, they keep walking by.

Constantly. I get on an empty bus, sit out of the way, leaving plenty of open space for others, and the next people on the bus sit all around me. I sit in a different place each time and it still happens. Reading a book with headphones on? Guess that's an open invitation for others to start talking to me. When I go outside, strangers weave around other people to try to start a conversation with me. At the store, I park my car in an empty place far from the door for a quick getaway, come out to see my car surrounded by other cars. What's going on?

You are totally correct, Tim! When you mind your business and don't want to be bothered, people will sense this and desire to bug you. Sometimes it's even the people you'd think wouldn't have nothing to do with you. Sometimes it's the people who have nothing in common with you or the ones who don't share your interests. Sometimes it's the people who live a totally different lifestyle than yours. Sometimes it's a group of people you want nothing to do with. Sometimes they will send their kids over to you, just to bug you. These extroverts are quick to call introverts names like arrogant and cocky. Some people just can't handle the fact that you are just simply a "Man Of Peace." It's the oddest thing! I know this personally, being an introvert myself.

Sometimes I'll put headphones on just so people won't bother me, but they will still ask me random questions even though they can clearly see that I have to keep taking one of the earbuds out to hear them. I think people just assume that you're more approachable when you're alone. They don't even consider the possibility that we may not want to be bothered.

I'm an introvert too and this DEFINITELY happens to me. This is why I choose certain times to do errands like for example I prefer to grocery shop at 6am when I know very few people will be there to disturb me.

Not even just real life, but tell people on social media that you enjoy being introverted/single and people will - like bots - tell you how to live life and that you’re doing it all wrong.

I'm an older introvert. I've always liked be left to myself even as a a child. While I enjoy observing others I have never felt drawn to engaging in the hoopla myself. Community and having friends has been a long time study and has proven to be a happiness measure. I totally get that. However I have no study except from my own life experience and with that I've found being solitary is what brings the most joy to my own life.

Living in Manhattan, anyone who randomly yells at you, "Yo!"..."Hey, yo!" or anything of the sort is NOT worth talking to, believe me. It's usually someone that wants something from you that A) You don't have, or B) You don't want to give them.... or even C) Is NOT the kind of person you want to talk to anyway. Best thing is to pretend like you never heard them and keep walking...Besides, what kind of person yells at random people "YOOOO!!!" like we are supposed to be all happy and enthusiastic and respond because you don't know how to properly address someone? This happens to me all the time! I think some extroverted people don't feel fully comfortable being by themselves, so when they see someone who's alone, they assume that person would prefer to talk or have company. It's a problem of people projecting their preferences onto other people. I have an extroverted sibling who basically just confirmed this theory for me.

I'm a huge introvert and get picked on. People always accuse me of being a perfectionist when they don't even know me. People are always making comments to me and they don't know what they are talking about. This happens at work too. People make comments and have no idea what they are talking about. Sigh.

As far as the U.S don't speak get ready for dramatics. People automatically become insecure if you don't speak. They think you think you're better than them and you don't want to talk, no matter if you're humble or a complete asshole or somewhere in the middle. If you don't keep up small talk and pledge your allegiance to them or their group they'll do anything to test your patience. I'm not looking for respect or validation, I'm tired of these social dynamics, sadly that's how the way life works, it's a little too primal for me. that's why I'm moving to the middle of nowhere in my own world.

I can totally relate! My fellowship group doesn’t understand that it literally causes me severe anxiety to be around people. I’m not a shy person, but I’m extremely introverted and enjoy my own company more than company of people. I can socialite, be kind and friendly, but I get absolutely exhausted after spending some time in the circle of people and naturally want to retreat into my own space. People get angry at me and think that I’m arrogant and how dare I not to desire to be a part of their group and share my life with them. I’m viewed as a person who is incapable to fend for myself and make my own gosh dang life decisions. And then the pity, the feeling of sorry for me if something going in my life not quite according to their own understanding of things. And people treat you like that, especially if you are single and have no kids. It is irritating, degrading, humiliating at times to made feel like I must rely on peoples emotional support. I refuse to submit to peoples perception of me and rather be by myself at this point in my life.

Fellow Introvert here, and no, you weren't wrong. You have the right to enjoy your own space by your lonesome. People either don't know how to read when a person wants to be left alone, or they deliberately want to disturb one's peace. I wear shirts all the time that let people know that I am not a people person, yet, they'll STILL take that as an opportunity to have a conversation with me. I have a shirt that says, "Don't talk to me".... That's your warning right there. I mean, I'm respectful and cordial to people, but it's CRAZY to me, how oblivious people appear to be, when it comes to reading another person's body language and facial expressions, which scream LEAVE ME ALONE!!!

But what I find unusual about people that claim to be extroverted, sociable, and outgoing is this……Why do the so-called extroverts care what the introverts are doing if they’re soooooooo extroverted? Us introverts number one personality trait is ….We don’t like to be bothered, and we don’t bother others.

It's our energy that draws these people in that's why lol. We have pure and high vibrational energy and here they come like moths to a flame lol

I think people sense that there is something interesting and different about you, your vibe, so they will do pretty much anything to try to get your attention, just to find out what it is about you that's different. Sometimes they just want to be in your presence and will use any excuse to do so. Sometimes your awareness alone can attract people to you, magnetic-like. Could go deeper and say it has something to do with your aura, an energy-like field which others can feel and want a taste of, or want a piece of it, kind of like sucking it away from you. Be very careful of people who you don't feel you need to be around, they can seriously drain you and change you. I know. No matter how much you ignore them. Stay sharp, we'll figure this out.

I can be sitting somewhere, be it on the bus or at the park or something, with my headphones and a book open and people will come up and try to talk. How much more obviously can I signal "do not talk to me"? This is why I hate leaving the house.

Yes, I understand. I am an introvert: not shy, not angry, not lacking as a social being,- just comfortable with myself and I don’t find it necessary or effective to be loud and in constant chatter. I give a nod or a soft hello when making eye contact and walking by people, they appear to want more and stare at me.

It's even worse when you live with extroverts or people who can't fathom not talking all day. This happens to me all the time. I’m an introvert and that has happened to me on a bus. Some guy that was mentally deficient and he wanted to start a conversation. He started talking to me about some sports game on tv when I don’t watch tv anymore. He was persistent then asking about tv shows. The guy was clueless that I didn’t want to talk to him and we had nothing in common. It can be annoying. Glad I don’t ride the bus anymore.

Introvert here but my main problem are friends that don’t respect my social boundaries. They used to think nothing of calling me and rambling endlessly about nothing - that or they stop over to my house unannounced(even though they know I like being notified beforehand) and just want to Make small talk. Or they invite you out and beg you to go with them and when you force yourself out with them and want to go home after a few hours they try to guilt trip you into staying longer. I have just cut friends off completely because of these annoyances .. I’m 39 and find my introversion growing even stronger and I simply don’t have time it energy for the small talk

You reacted okay in all 3 situations, I would even go more rude. The thing is this: it is the way of nature. All organisms are in a constant mode of preying on weaker ones. Even if those only APPEAR 'weaker' in given societial expectations. You just need to embrace we live in a society where the neurotypical personalities are the societial norm and expectation. I usually go full militant mode when these type of situations occur to me, and they do A LOT. Never fall for a shit test. Never. Save your energy.

As a woman, I feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable with a man coming over to me in a parking lot situation like Walmart, especially when there are men in the parking lot! I feel that they know that it’s unacceptable to walk up to a total stranger and that they are less likely to get their head knocked off if they go to a woman. They may also feel like a woman is softer-hearted. OMG! One time a dude came from behind to my driver’s side window, while I was sitting in my car! I screamed with fear and rage for him to get away! TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!🫨😠

No matter what you do there's always someone who doesn't like it. I'm an empath an extrovert and I love people but I can tell when people don't want to be bothered and that doesn't bother me.

I am an intervert, but some people conceive me as conceded and get angry. I thought it was my responsibility to prove to them that I am not stuck up by being "outgoing." That's tiresome and non-productive. It's not my job to change my temperment to tame others' temper.

And, from my perspective...I get an extra layer of nonsense because I'm single, female and have no children. My Lord and my God...the amount of attention I go through when I'm around humans is insane. The more I try to isolate myself, the more people try to stick to me like flies on ish. It's simply exhausting. Trust me, I get your frustration.

Totally relatable. As I get older, I really like being in my own space, in my corner. My job requires consistent interaction with patients. Lots of face to face interaction, as well as answering phones majority of the day. I love my job and I give it 100% but during my off time, I don't wanna be bothered by anyone. Just recently got an evite to celebrate one year old baby boy's birthday next weekend. Didn't respond to RSVP, so now I keep getting calls from relatives and messages to go. Its my day off and I just wanna chelax in my sanctuary. Seriously, can't tolerate loud noise, kids, two-faced relatives, unnecessary conversations. Can't even be bothered with the holidays. I'd rather hibernate.

Got a tip for you Tim, buy the big cup headphones and even if you dont want to listen anything , wear them. Nobody will bother you. I'm an ambivert. I like to recharge in loneliness but when people talk to me , I love mingling

Facts! I swear I have like an invisible "talk to me" sign on my head that only other people can see. One of my coworkers asked me what I like to talk about, and I said "nothing" (because I wanted to focus on work). But I think that just made her want to talk to me more. Being an introvert/loner I see more clearly how other people really NEED to socialize....like, REALLY need to...like they need air to breathe or something. I usually try to avoid eye contact as much as possible when I don't want to socialize at all, or I give one word answers or purposely try to be very boring so they won't want to talk to me anymore. Or I bring someone else to the conversation and then leave so they can talk to each other instead of me 😅

Just tryna get from my home to the grocery store and back, on foot as a single woman, almost felt like walking through a mine field cuz i promise you, before my time of the month, i be ready to BLOW UP and pop off I REALLLLLLY do not have the patience to be polite about thirsty dudes lurking with nothing else better to do but lurk. and they be f**kin forceful and overt. Polite = Political, Rude = RUDIMENTARY. I give myself permission to let my attitude air out right before my cycle bc it really be the drunk ones who are bored that will bother you JUST TO BOTHER YOU. My co workers always wanna chat me up in the break room (that i am required to enter to check my 'mailbox' twice daily) and i just cannot stand it. I don't wanna talk, i dont wanna be asked a hundred questions, i just wanna do my job and gtfo and go home and be with the people i actually give a shit about.

You are right. It happens to me all of the time. I just moved to longmont, Colorado. They do not like newcomers here. I retired early at 60. I am also about to have surgery. They are angry because I took early retirement. One man yelled at me for just sitting in the park.

No, it's definitely not you! I am an absolute introvert and I have to dodge people all the time. Even in the movie theatre, there will be 8000 empty seats and someone will come sit right next to me. I always said that I must have an invisible magnet on my butt because people are constantly trying to attach themselves to me. Good to know that I'm not the only one dealing with this. PRO TIP I use is reversing roles. see when you're an introvert and someone extrovert comes at you and makes you uncomfortable by asking questions and talking to you unnecessarily you are in a defense mode and they are in attack mode. what you need to do is switch to attack mode by switching the focus on them being the one who asks and talks unnecessarily to them. once you do that, they will switch to defense mode and back off

I was at a festival, alone, having a great time with plenty of space around me and a group of people walk past. One of them, a tall guy, just stops dead and stares at me in the eyes for a second, and starts spouting random things. I’m just laughing it off and being friendly as he seems kind of high, and even backing up because he’s starting to get pushy. Suddenly he starts wildly swinging and punching me in the face. Zero provocation, zero nothing. It’s like they can smell when I’m most vulnerable at this point in my life and that I’m most anxious around people. All his friends came up to me and apologised as people restrained him. I’m no pushover or small guy myself, but man, life is beating me up so bad, 10 minutes later I just broke down and couldn’t stop crying. Why is it that the less people I try to hurt and the kinder I try to be (without being forceful about anything) the more people treat me like I’m some alien, or, apparently, punching bag.

I like being alone a lot. I've learned that people who are way more social then I, I feel sorry for them because they are probably sad , not happy in their minds, have problems with their alone time. I believe it's close to mental pains. So I believe their magnetic vibe picks up on those like us for comfort talking to us so they don't feel alone

As an introvert myself, I found that Michael Singers work is awesome! He has some books like untethered soul and some others. Another thing I’ve learned is that you don’t have to have an opinion about anything. It’s not required.
