On a shore excusion my husband & I were in line to board the gondolas in Venice. The staff had us step aside & ushered others ahead of us. Just as my husband was about to complain, a very ornate gondola for 2 with a musician on board and the guard rope was removed & we were escorted on - it was our 50th Anniversary and Holland Am had arranged this as a surprise for us!
Or dead. The slot channels are doing more for cruising than these tulip channels are. Someone like Brian Christopher can get 200 rooms full on a cruise. Both have a place though. I liked it better when they were reviewing ships and ports. Reading news off the AP "wire" and giving dumb comments gets pretty dull pretty quick.
There’s a couple instances I can justify cutting or skipping part of the line. In the buffet there’s usually a salad bar section before the rest of the food, if the people in front of me stop at the salad bar, I’ll skip by them. And if there’s no clearly marked queue line and the people in front of me are dragging their feet for whatever reason and there’s a big gap behind the people in front of them, I’ll go around.
Agree. I can't deal with the buffet crowd. I book every single night in specialty dining, if I can. I'm a carnivore so waiting behind 20 people all wanting the salad bar doesn't make much sense to me. I'd rather just place an order and be done with it.
I remember when I was coming back from a shore excursion and there was a huge line. I got in line and I was starting to struggle a bit because I'm disabled but I dont frequently avail myself of disability services because in my mind there are people far worse off than me who can really use those services. I did see some benches about halfway through the line though. So what I did, I told the person behind me in the line that I was heading to the benches and would rejoin the line, I went to the benches, let the people in the line know I wasnt cutting in the line and that I just was going to sit on the bench, and then when the line came around to my spot, I rejoined the line. Just a little communication with your fellow travellers can really make the line experience better. Yes its likely hot, yes people are likely tired and cranky. But if you need a hand, your fellow travellers are usually very kind and accomodating if you're kind and dont try to cut the line.
I wont wait the whole entire line for one scoop of the corn I liked. People getting seconds should be able to cut in since they already know what they want and will scoop it and get out quickly. There are full serve options on another deck, right?
And then there are the folks who encourage people to get in line in front of them. The folks who do this think they are being polite and sharing to the people they let into the line - never mind that they are being rude to the folks who are in line behind them.
My son-in-law was asked this in a long line in Disneyland. He smiled and said it was OK with him but that that they would have to ask all the people behind him first. Very clever 😅.
Don't worry about them. If they want to cheat to win a keyring, then they're the ones that have to live with being spectacularly lame, and that's on them, not you.
@@cathieteachout8124 You have got to be kidding! People actually do that? And we are talking about adults? There is something seriously lacking in anyone who would do that for a little cruise ship trivia game.
@@pattymc4726 we sat next to six Canadian women, who are proud of the fact that they could Google the answers faster than he could ask them. They want a bottle of champagne, and never admitted to cheating. It was disgusting.

Beat this one. I was on a Panama cruise last February. We got back late from an excursion for the dining room so we went to the Pizza outlet. I ordered what I wanted (and for my wife) and, whilst the crew member was assembling our pizzas and portions of fries (putting them on the counter as he did so), a somewhat, loud, stumbling, inebriated guy came up, shouted at the server what he wanted, then took my fries (presumably as he assumed they were for him), sat down and eat them. Now that IS butting in!!!
Heres a good one. Haiti way in the back on the island 4 seniors, one in a wheel chair waiting for their third shuttle, as it fills up so quickly they get left behind. They asked if they could board first, but the driver has no control over the mob wanting to get back on the ship. So my friend and I tell them we 'll get the seats and a space for the folded wheel chair. The shuttle arrives, unloads, he sprawls over a row and I get the row for the wheel chair, it s almost loaded and they two couples are still getting settled. We get off the shuttle and send them in their way and we catch the next one. We were happy to help. Guy behind us says, you must be Canadian. Yep, sorry, lol.
At the buffet station - Getting a carton of milk or a biscuit that you forgot should be ok to do. NOT a guy who butts in line to fill his plate ................
@@crazycruisingadventures1363about to say that same If someone wanted to quickly grab a item they forgotten on the buffet is totally cool to me (less than 30 seconds and they are done) Completely different if it’s a person who needs to completely fill a plate
I love cruising. But nowhere am I reminded more of how rude people are than in the buffet on a cruise. I will always allow someone their space to get their food and help myself when they are done. Yet here comes Mr or Mrs entitled that needs to jump in before me to get their food. 🙄🙄
Absolutely, it happens all the time - on our last cruise, upon entering the ship, a young couple simply "jumped - under the rope/line, and they never looked back and unfortunately nobody interrupted or stopped them.
@@RickDuBose-o8q I’m a bit more passive aggressive. I will make a rude comment to them. And the glare I give scares them off. People don’t have manners anymore.
My wife has encountered women cutting in front of her while in the line for the restroom. And also, people coming up to a bar and shouting their order while we are standing patiently with our sea-pass cards out to place an order.
Unfortunately, one side effect of tipping culture is that some people think that don't have to wait for others to be served first if they have been tipping. And the servers seem to encourage this, as they don't want to cut off the tips. Also, why did your wife line up for the restroom when it would be quicker to just use your own in your cabin?
Oh they probably know everything. But getting passengers to air complaints serves as a reminder to the offenders, without the staff having to intervene.
Maybe they should add a few floaters in the crew whose job is to walk around the tables. Should they find anyone cheating in that manner warnings are given with a limit of 2 or 3, then the offenders are kicked out of the gaming area with an explanation. No exceptions. It is more fun to play a game honestly, then you learn something, it may be just how much you know or could be something interesting that you didn’t know before. That could just be me of course.
Try backing off an elevator on a cruise on a mobility scooter and there is a mob of people looking to get on and don’t move out of your way so you can back out.
On our last cruise there was this same couple that was always drunk and they'd slowly move towards the front of the line just before the doors to the comedy club would open. My wife said "We know what you're doing" one night and they just laughed and kept moving up. It's just no use trying to shame them...they are cannot be shamed!
Every cruise has a required muster station drill. I wish there were a required video on courtesy, etiquette and manners! The truth is that there are ill-mannered people everywhere. My advice is treat it all with good humor and joke about it. Don't let the rude, or ugh even unsanitary people ruin your enjoyment.
please dont judge me on my comment everyone... i do Always wait in line at the buffet, as i should, but it does irk me that if there is a long line up and people are at the first or second lot of food, why we have to stand behind them to wait rather than walk up to the 4th section of food, where the food is that i want to eat and has no one standing there. yes technically its pushing in line, but if im not wanting anything down the start of the buffet and everyone else is, then whats the harm in going ahead to where no one is to grab what i want. as i said i dont do that, i wait behind everyone else, but it does annoy me a bit. especially as i suffer so so much pain, and standing there im in utter agony and at times i have to leave the line and come back later as my pain is so unbearable
@travelwithdebandnick yes i believe it's perfectly okay to do this it actually speeds up the buffet. If u are in line and you don't like what, you see, you can pass the line and free up space for the next person
Standing in line for afternoon tea, one door opened, and people started filing in. Suddenly a large group stomped past the people filing in, opened the other door for themselves, and rushed to what they felt was the best table - so rude!
I do get annoyed by those at buffets, especially salad bar areas. Some want to pick over everything and get the perfect piece. They take forever to make the perfect little salad. Just put food on your plates already! You are holding up the line.
Saw a man grab the throat of another man who got in front of him to be the first to see the Panama Canal. I have see all that you listed, but I am on a cruise and I just let things roll off my back and continue enjoying my happy place.
On embarkation, if I come to an area with the zig-zag queues and there are few, if any, people in front of me, you bet I’m going to bypass that empty line. The cruise line should be monitoring that queue and adjust it as needed. I’m on vacation, not walking a marathon.
The problem with the one lane at a time when you're leaving the theater is have you ever been standing waiting only to find when your turn to exit is the person at the first seat decides to wait it out so noone in the row can get out now unless you hop over the seats to exit the row in front of you.
If you are in a buffet line and you come to a section where you want nothing and the people in front of you are taking a bit of everything, it is perfectly acceptable to go in front of them. You actually speed the line along.
I haven’t been on a cruise in a while, but when I go to any other buffet on land. You kind of just step up to whatever you want and get it and then go to the next thing it’s not a line like a cafeteria like it’s a school or something. Is that how Cruz lines are doing it now? Because if so, I’m just eating in the dining room which I want to do that anyways because I don’t like the way they stack the dishes where you have to reach over one thing to the other thing and I’ve heard people use their hands and I don’t really want to get Off the ship for cussing somebody out at breakfast
If the buffet line isn’t moving, and I forgot a fork, butter, one item, etc., and food in the other hand… I will excuse myself and ask if it’s OK to do so.. then I think that is acceptable, as I’ve already been through the line…
One thing bugs me it kinda like this when you have a small venue with 70 seats or so something like Syd Norman. You have one person in line that about 20 people all their "family" happens to join in and cuts in-front of everyone. It just like they do in Black Friday
What I hate is the person that creates a line because they can't decide it decide on which one they want. Yes I will Go around them to the next choice.
I might be one of the pushers in line at the buffet, so please chastise me if I am, but I must say that whenever I have been in a buffet at a station where there is say twenty different food items to chose from I have never seen a line. I must admit that I usually go either when they open, or just as they are finishing (depends on whether I have access to the early or later shows in the main theatre). Obviously you have to line up for the items that are cooked there and then or that are served by the staff. but I have never lined up for the food at the buffet stations.
I don't believe in standing in line at the buffet, I duck in a take what I want, if I encounter a line at the omelet or soup station or something like that I stop and wait my turn, but I am not going to wait behind someone who can't decide what they want, and has to stop and look at every item.
I was actually surprised by the lack of queue jumping on my last cruise, especially at disembarkation. I was hanging out in the atrium watching staff bring groups of passengers down (I had a late train time so was wasting time!) from their designated waiting areas. In fact i saw one group determined to go to the back of the main line even though the staff member was trying to at that point form 2 queues!! It may just be how the cruise line managaged it. This was the P&O Britannia and it was full.
I hate the long line to board the plane (@the gate.) They call up each group (A, B, C, and lastly D.) I'm usually in group D, so I wait till the line has less than 10 ppl before I get up and finally get in line. (Mind you, I'm checked in.) Every time I get on the plane and find my seat amongst a fully booked flight, there is always someone in my seat. I stand there, I never say a word, I will stare at the entitled B in my seat. They look at me and always say, "Is this your seat? I didn’t think you were gonna show, so I took your seat cause I wanna sit next to my fiance, spouse, bf, whatever... you wanna switch seats?" No. Get up, before I call the flight attendants. They get snarly, I raise my hand and call upon these arch angels and ask them to guide me to my seat. They confirm the entitled B is in my spot and the fight that ensues half the time. They'll treat you like you're the jerk. They get up, all huffy. I sit down and put in my headphones and block everybody out. Moral of the story: Don't cut in line, sit in your assigned seat, and don't be a jerk. Its bad enough I never have a spot to put my overhead bags, but these passengers are entitled af. It makes me appreciate camping/hiking, to get away from these nutbags. Lots of love Don. Safe travels. ❤
Once I saw people butt in line for an amusement park ride. They progressed all the way to the front when a staffer told them to get out and go to the back of the line. Karma!
Hi Don my pet peeve is when you watch a show and it is halfway through and they come talking and standing up looking for seats I don’t go to shows anymore it is just annoying with rude people, people are just rude when it comes to travel!
Our last cruise had some a group of loud Southern American people that seemed to be wherever we were ...... they had no awareness of those around them. They weren't rude, just very loud.
I once had to ask some crew members in uniform to please not talk during the show in BB King’s. We had already moved three times to get away from the babblers. When you go to something that is, first and foremost, meant to be LISTENED to, why talk through it? There are so many places you can go and talk. Why choose that place? When the table of crew members started I ready to set my hair on fire. My husband and I are quiet people. We don’t want everyone to hear what we are saying. And they don’t want to hear it. Loud talkers are probably the people who annoy me the most.
Definitely agree Don. However, i would really like to see the cruise lines put some effort in clearly defining lines and some sort of organization within the buffets. Too many times it is so incredibly chaotic people might not even be aware of where a line starts. If there is a huge line surrounded by other peope and a dish on the buffet no one is scooping from yet two dishes before is where the line is held up, i can see how people can think it is fine to just grab what they need there. Again, there never seems to be a defined line or organization in the buffets.
While I agree that line cutting in buffets are bad. Sometimes this can be taken too far. For example, my brother wanted to get fries on the bar next to the hamburger station. There was usually a line for the hamburgers. The fries were placed right after the hamburgers. There was a passenger that got angry at him for having the nerve for getting fries. He did not take any hamburgers, nor did he impede the line to get the fries. He did not even take all the fries in the bin that they were in. This passenger felt that he should wait for everyone in the line for the hamburgers to clear so he could get the fries that he wanted. Please understand that just because you are in line for a specific item in a buffet. Does not mean that you do not own all the food on the bar.
my family of three were on a smaller excursion this past March. Tour completed, and a substantially sized couple got on the 15 seat van first. Of course they sat in the FIRST two seats right at the entrance/exit, and acted all bothered when everyone else had to crawl over/around them to be seated. Now you know...not the brightest bulbs on the tree.
The biggest annoyance are the people who tie up the Deck chairs startiing at 7am. They will have up to 4 chairs. No one can take the chairs as they place towels on the backs of these chairs for 3 to 4 hours at times.
Worst elevator push in was on a Princess ship. We caught the tender back to the ship, got to the levators with several people with mobility aids at the front of the queue. Lift arrived and as the door opened a chap come up from the tender and pushed in front of the people with wheelchairs, strollers and crutches. I stopped him getting in the lift until the people waiting got in. He gave me a filthy look.
Hi!!! They need the old fashion days. Put a number . I know the name of that machine but they need it bad. I did back to back cruises and that was the worst thing ever . People think that can just get in front of you .
No problems in a Hilton, you pack up and leave your room key on the dresser and go out to your car and leave. You all waste half your vacation waiting in line to do stuff.
I thought buffet etiquette was if there is a space and you only want one thing that is ahead of the line, you go in a get it without disrupting the line? You don’t break in between two people, but if no one is there, you get what you want and leave.that is efficient.
There are people who feel that they are special and that everything revolves around them, they don't follow the rules, they talk loudly, they demand, they skip lines, they don't use and they put clothes on the pool chairs so that no one sits down. There is a dress code on a cruise.
I don't just get in lines anymore I've missed a flight that way and so now I don't care what sign is up I don't care how many people are waiting there I go and I ask someone where I should be first. There is nothing like missing your flight for a trip that's all paid for to the Caribbean just because there's a sign that says stand here and when the worker finally acknowledges you they tell you it's too late to correct an error that's on your ticket. 😢
I experienced everything you said when on an NCL cruise. This June we went on a silver Sea cruise, yes, quite a bit more expensive but none of those things happen. Hard to appreciate the difference to you actually experience it.
Don, here is one I experienced. I am a senior and walk with a cane so I don't always go to fast. Was walking through the casino on the Carnival Magic when a younger couple came up behind and actually bumped into me to try and get past, and there was room for them to go around.
Yes we had that situation happen upon disembarkation with MSC. The line was moving extremely quickly, and so I said out loud after seeing a woman cut in front of us, “I don’t understand why people are cutting in line, it’s moving quickly.” And immediately the woman gestured for me to go ahead. It was amazing!
The line into MDR, we are all waiting, even down the hall. The elevator opens bear the MDR and that car load just pushes their way into the line where the elevator is.
People also butt in line when going into the main dining room, both for the usual meals and afternoon tea, etc., when there's a bunch of other people who have been waiting there patiently and longer for the doors to open.
Had a butting in line issue on a Royal voyage. A family of 14 kept butting in line at photo stations and kept taking forever because they wanted certain photos with only certain family members. That staff ask if it might be better to arrange an appointment to have the multiple photos taken. But they just got angry because they wanted to have it done their way. This family was rude to other passengers the whole cruise.
We have been on Princes once and will not be repeating it. Much prefer a British based cruise line where we do not get this sort of behaviour. The smaller ships are much better as well.
Sorry Don,we were in line to see mamma Mia in RCL and we went to the back of the line (long line) and watched many in front of us butt the line! At which point we looked at each other and agreed we didn’t need this and decided to go get a drink at Boleros! About the time we got our drinks the ship announced that the mamma Mia show was cancelled! Lololololol
I totally understand. Every time we are about to board a plane there may be a person in a wheelchair that needs to go one first and then 15 members of their family says they need to go with them. The funny thing is when we got off the plane they not only walked off the plane they walked to the pick up area of the airport.
While what you are saying rings true, you do remember that not all airports are walkable. Some you need to pack a lunch to change terminals, others are small enough that you’ll be in baggage pickup before you could even wait for a wheelchair!
@@Reed-2bigI have limited walking ability. Distance calculations are measured in “walkability” for me. Nice of you to recognize that a huge airport is inaccessible, while others are accessible. Not all who walk after using a wheelchair are cheaters.
@@RobertaHanscom Thank you. I’m old enough to remember when Atlanta didn’t have the mid terminal cross over, not that still isn’t a long way. I was always having to change spokes so to speak and it was alway end to end! We almost couldn’t speed walk it in the connection times! At that time I travelled about 35% of a year and was in late 20s early 30s. I also don’t remember even golf carts existing! In fairness, I now have a wheelchair but my husband could always walk the long walks. Now, I need to be sure I get him a wheelchair in the larger airports, especially changing international to domestic. I don’t try to jump lines in fact I encourage others to pass me first in the halls as I’m already have a place to sit waiting! That usually gets a smile too.
So many times people try to cut in front of me like I’m invisible. Sometimes I don’t say anything and just roll my eyes. Sometimes I say, Excuse me, am I invisible? I’ve been standing in line here! Sometimes people apologize and move while other times they feel the need to actually argue about it, to which I respond, if it is that important to you go ahead….and I’m thinking to myself about how I can trip them with my cane! LOL. I’ve never actually done it, nor would I, but I do take great pleasure giggling while thinking about it. 😉 I also know someday, that person is going to have a mobility issue and they will also be cut off by someone rude. Most people are consciousness and polite, but there are always those around who are just plain rude.
This is why i am avoiding people as much as possible. I won’t be cruising for another year - and I’m enjoying not being in crowds and dealing with rude people.
Shows are my pet peav!! Always seem like one or two are standing there, and all of the sudden, five or six more join them!! Wait at the end of the line for your full party to join you!!! I hope you smiled and waved as you left the ship!! LOL!!
Don your totally right !! What I want to know is what was your blood pressure reading was at the end of this video !!! LOL 🤣🤣 I love your videos !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy your trip 🍹🍹🛳
I don't mind the line cutters at the buffet or MDR...I usually turn to the people behind me and say " it's OK the can have the cold leftovers I'll wait for the hot and fresh food ".😂😂😂
Not to point any fingers but I dare say you have also noticed, there's a certain Eastern nation whose citizens seem to think its OK for one of them to join a line and that means all their friends, family and all their friends and family can also turn up whenever they like and push in with the first person. Being British queues are part of the heritage although these days I think I'm becoming less tolerant and frequently do have a little word in their 'shell like' 😊
The only thing I don't agree with is standing behind a slowpoke in the buffet line. Some people take so long to pick over their meal I can slip in ahead of them & be gone before they even realize someone was there. If it take you 10 minutes to select your food then maybe the DR is for you after all.
Bars! Standing and waiting , then Mr Macho. Ones up and thinks he is “ special” and butts in line to order his drink, sometimes like 5 drinks. You nailed it Don, we have all had the same issues with those “special people”
I have only had to stand in line oncoe in all my cruising days. That was because of a tsunami in Hawaii which delayed the ship docking. Not a problem though. All the rest of my 30+ cruises we have just walked on board without a queue. Same with disembarking. We were not in a hurry so didn’t go down until well into our allotted time. NO queue.
100% spot on! Elevators on the Mardi Gras are small and people cannot wait for people in scooters. They are ignored. We had to wait for 3 different elevators because people jumped in front of us. Another place is the lines for pictures. I'm guilty of the cutting in for one item. If I needed more, then I would go to the back of the line. I've allowed people to cut in to get an item. Disembarkation is the worse. We had priority debarkation and still had to wait for people cutting in line in front of everyone.
I admit I did jump the line in the buffet, but to my reason, my wife was hypoglycemic and crashing, we forgot to bring some snacks back to our room, we tried room service but that would be 45 minutes, so we ran to the buffet to get carbs and proteins. I explained the situation to the people who were in that section and they were very understanding and familiar knowing other people with the same condition. A few shrimp and a plate of pasta and I was out of the line. So not everyone jumping the line is just greedy.
At the bar. Waiting for the bartender and a person just walks up and demands their drink. I have to admit, I have told people that someone else is in front of them and appointed to that person. I have also done this when the bartender has come to me and someone else has been waiting longer. Another area is in the dining rooms when there is a line to get in. Some people just crowd all the way up to the doors so they can sit down first even though I doubt they’ll be waited on any quicker than if they just were courteous and waited their turn.
Oh boy, someone pissed off Don! We see this everyday, we are in Brooklyn NYC. Oh boy, I can tell you stories. But when we are on a cruise or vacation we relax we let everyone go by, if there in a hurry let them go, they are basically going the same way we go, so go pass us by, we know everyones getting nowhere fast, your on freaking vacation RELAX, ENJOY!!! Why run around like lunatics. Best Jeff & Sandy Brooklyn NY
Thats why I dont use the elevators in the cruise ships, I just walk up or down, good for my heatlth. I they cut infront of me, I really dont mind just want peace and quiet, it wont kill me.
