awesome video. i just rolled over 400k in my 97 xj and it stills strong, i've only done minor maintenance and late oil changes lol. the doors falling off are due to the stryker pin failing/breaking and letting the door/hinges take abuse from not being limited by it

Thank you for your vid. Well done..I have a '97 green 2door 5 speed XJ and a 2000 XJ. I LOVE them both! My only problem with them though is that I can't drive both of them at the same time.🤣😅..

You can take out that buzzer. It's basically just a relay with a speaker on it located under the dash on the driver side. I'm about to go pick up another XJ and that will be the first thing I do.

Thanks for the ride along and for pointing out what to watch out for. We have two XJs, one for parts and the other one needing parts. Unfortunately, both me and my son both have jobs so we haven't done the repairs yet. At least they are both basically rust free and mechanically sound.

A french designed engine which is basically a diesel format engine, in front of a Toyota transmission. That’s why i love them. Put a turbo on it, sounds like a cummins.

French didn’t design the 4.0 AMC was making straight sixes long before Renault worked with them.

@@foch3 Renault owned AMC during the 4.0l production. It’s like when BMW paired production of the new 2020 Supra, it’s still a Toyota, but most of its BMW. Thus a french designed engine.

@@jake1842 Wrong the 4.2 crank drops right into a 4.0 block. The French wanted a V6 old pimp hands at Jeep insisted on a Straight 6.

!.They are geared low, not high. The higher the number, the lower the gear. 2.It's not on a frame at all, it's a unibody. 3. Sensors: you can buy the IAC, TPS, and transmission speed sensor for less than a hundred bucks, and change all three yourself in about an hour. 4. You can change the door open buzzer for less than 10 bucks. 5. in twenty years of owning XJs, I've never even hears of a door actually falling off. Usually the top hinge breaks loose from the body, either from rust (they ARE bad about rust), or because someone has leaned on the door while getting in and out for years. Welding it back is no big deal, and should cost no more than about fifty bucks. 6. No, it doesn't have ABS, which you should have known the first time you raised the hood. Only the later models had ABS . Why do people love them? Because they are probably the most reliable vehicles you can find, and the easiest to repair yourself. They also love modifications, lift kits, tires, snorkels etc, and make great off road vehicles.

I'm on my 8th xj over 30 years ....my 1st 1984 xj in 1994 my friend opened the door in a turn and It flew open and broke the rusted door pins. Door went flying. After that I took the doors off put a mirror on the driver's side and had one of the first Cherokees with the doors off

My 2000 xj also has a belt driven and electrical fan. Electrical fan only turn on when thermostat hits or is over 210. Even with aftermarket radiator my jeep does not like stop and go traffic when it’s hot out or traffic jams

Got a 92 myself, these things definitely take a lot of work but sure are awesome. By the way I'm pretty sure that dome thing you're talking about, if its like mine, the black little half sphere sticking out of the ceiling is the receiver for the the wireless door unlocker/clicker that came with some of them.

I will never understand torque. 🤔It was like you were speaking a foreign language. Haha. My 94 Jeep is almost at 300k miles with its original engine. So I am trying to learn more about it. My door started falling off about 2 years ago so I have to baby it. Glad to know I'm not alone. Awesome video!! I learned a lot. I was wondering ........After I drive for a while and stop. About 5 or 10 seconds later my jeep makes this weird regurgitating sound which seems to be coming from the steering wheel area. What is that? A policeman pulled me over last week and I was so embarrassed when it made that noise. It was like it had burped without saying "excuse me". Haha. But the policeman said it was a jeep thing.

Thanks for the comment, and yeah these engines will last forever if properly maintained. As far as your strange sound, I have never heard of anything like that. Have you checked your power steering fluid? Maybe your pump is on its way out.

@@realdailydriven thx for the recommendation. It has been making that noise from day 1. I did have to replace my PowerSteering fluid container-box thingy a few weeks ago. But it still makes the noise. At this point I just think of it as personality.

That's the #1 reason the door hinges fail. Large drivers using the door as a brace to get in and out. I've had one for 21 years, 300k+ miles. Doors are fine. In that 21 years, I've seen a HUGE (no pun intended) correlation between door hinge failure and driver size. Ya they aren't great, but they don't fail randomly, they sag for awhile before it's an issue.
