The weather is slowly warming up and that means the fish should be starting to move around more. GP heads out to try for a quick afternoon session for a big Catfish at Finch Farm and finds nobody is fishing so he has the whole pool to himself. Does that give him some better odds as no other baits are in the water? Watch to find out if he gets a rod-bender. Then it’s over to Grant's Tackle Up for a beginners insight into how to tie up your own Carp rig...it's the sort of fishing tip that might just turn the tables in your direction..Enjoy.

Unlike many other Angling Channels on RU-vid Graeme is not sponsored by the Tackle Companies so he doesn't have to push their overpriced tackle & rigs, for example using a length of twig instead of a bait stop, he also buys second hand Rods & Reels. With folk being crippled by the rising Cost of Living TAF's Tips for affordable Fishing are invaluable! The explanations by Grant are also really useful. 👍

Thanks for the comment. I try to keep it real and if I do mention a bit of tackle its because I use it. Invariably its secondhand and probably out of production.

I think a tip to good bait is using things that others havent...once a "good bait" has been used by many on a daily basis the fish get smart and avoid it... making something new that isnt full of the usual smells should get the attention of the fish.

Funny you should mention the Okuma Interceptor reels. My dad pulled one out of a lake not long ago still attached to its rod! (I think the reel is the IBF-50 model??) In any case, a quick clean, some grease/lube and new line and that thing was ready to go out on the bank again. We know of a local club that fishes the stretch of water but we didnt think it was worth giving them a bell just in case it was one of their people that lost it. The rod itself is also pretty old and I cant find much information about it - Pro Performance, Titanium ROC 0011. Only information ive been able to find is that the rod itself is made from old Shimano blanks, branded and sold by Glasgow Angling Center (or the precursor to what eventually became GAC after the business either changed hands or merged with a different retailer ) Im really impressed how the smoothly the reel operates after being in the water for so long. It had weed growing on it and the finish on the plastic of the reel is quite pitted but it operates smoothly. While we always try to return lost items of high value if we can. This was a case of finders keepers!

They do seem a pretty decent reel,I've been well pleased with the secondhand ones I bought.

Graham great video, one small point as its indicated for beginners, when you cut the Luncheon meat please dont cut towards your hand, fishing knives are a lot sharper than many are used to, and your decades of experience make it look easy and Ok to do. but great video.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing Год назад
True,but my knife is blunt for that type of job or opening tins, the old saying is you are more likely to cut yourself with a blunt knife than a sharp one ,I don't think I would be using my filleting knife for that job.

fresh water fish are attracted to salt- sea baits and salted baits- better still salt plus oil/fats. cheese=fat, marmite=salt.

Was the Kite the one nesting at your property or another one down by the lake....thought is might have followed you. Never caught a cat before. There is a lake a few miles from me called slough house farm with some absolute creatures apparently upwards of 80lbs 😮 not sure I've even got a net big enough

The Red Kite was one I saw working over the lake...not "Colin the Kite" our resident raptor.

Home made gadgets galore, washing up bottle tops for bobbins and manky 2 year old bait. When I used to go carp fishing my tackle was a joke compared with everyone else, who would have a heart attack if their rod rests weren't perfectly lined up and fishing was more about OCD than catching fish 🤦‍♀Like you I caught much more fish than the tackle tarts.👌

Those old Interceptor reels go on forever. Only thing to remember is the free spool lever engages the opposite way to most other baitrunners, including newer Okuma models.

@@TAFishing I have both the intercepter and undertaker baitrunner reels which I bought 25ish years ago brand new through Matt Hayes Fishing,. Not sure what company name but both are okuma reels in the size 50 and 60 which are massive compared with today's sizes but yep there all still going strong with a great balance a slight grind in the retrieve from new that hasn't got any worse👍

Hi Graeme, I bought a John Wilson Catfish Rod with 5lb test curve a few years ago. Hope to go Catfishing abroad with it someday. Incidently i also bought something around that time that i wanted to send to you, still unused, but when Mike moved house i didn't have an address to send it to. Please advise on this Graeme if you wish to. If not then no problem buddy. Steve in Fife.

What about the magic bait for catfish. You never told us Graham. It’s a mystery. Lol.
@TAFishing
@TAFishing Год назад
Still a mystery..I couldn't find them over 8 months,was told out of production and wouldn't be stocked again, I was mortified as I had an opportunity to buy a load and never did ,but I just located them again in a freezer store so made sure I bought enough for this season. I'll see how it goes this year.Maybe the last 2 seasons it was just luck.
