Thank you for bringing up the idea around biracial identification. I constantly get dragged in the comments whenever I bring up how solely identifing bi-racial people as just black contributes to the erasure of blackness. Why can't we identify them as such, their lived experience is going to be different. And adding them into blackness erases the voices of black women who can't escape their blackness. Our society loves racial ambiguity.

I just got dragged for this too. I’m a fair skinned black woman with 2 black parents and it’s very frustrating to be grouped in with biracial women. We aren’t the same and our experiences aren’t either. It’s always been weird to me that people go out of their way to force biracial people to accept their blackness and then turn around and tell light skinned black people we aren’t black enough. Very strange
@Daijxo

I resonated with all of this, especially the men ain’t sh*t part. As a light skinned person, to me talking about colorism and defending dark skinned people is the bare minimum…how are we going to sit here and complain and white people’s lack of action with racism WHILE our light skinned behinds sit idly by with colorism, just like our oppressor? We know exactly how we benefit from this mess so it’s literally our role to speak on this and dismantle it. It disappoints me that Saweetie wasn’t more forceful with her defense, but it unfortunately doesn’t surprise me 😔. I can detect that beautiful West African accent in your voice. I'm guesing you are of Nigerian or Ghanian heritage. I am an African man and I refused to be classified as "black", not because I hate black, to the contrary, I love everything black and people describe me a pro black love, pro black, a black extremist and pan-Africanist. In my tribe, the blacker the woman, the more noble she is. And it is common to hear my people say "I want to find a wife as black as coal." This is the heritage that I come from and have never ever dated interracially as I'm not interested in that. That said, now (especially in the past few years) I refused to be labled black because I am ashamed of Black American men and the disgusting self hating rhetoric they spew and their behaviour, and therefore do not want to be lumped together with them. They can have the term "black man" and I will settle for "African man" as I do not want to be associated with them. They are disgusting beyond believe. They are the only group of men that I know of who takes pride in going to social media to degrade their women and elevate the daughters of their oppressor. These group of men would have no problem degrading the beauty of their own black mothers and elevating the beauty of their oppressor's daughter. I rather slit my throat than do that. These men are sick and beyond help. Even if other races are into interracial relationships, you will not see them doing this on social media, the press or in their music videos, at least not to the same extent as Black American men do. When I used to see this from Black American men couple of years ago (mainly on forums, as I do not live in the USA), I used to call them out for that BS. With my love for blackness, black pride, black love, pan-Africanist, etc, I first though maybe if I could educate them by giving them an African perspecitive because of our two different histories, may be, just may be, they might stop this foolishness. Therefore, I started with the softly softly approach, then went on to the hard approach, but have now come to the realisation that these Black American men (not all, but a hell of a lot of them for my liking) are beyond help. They are damaged goods. In my opinion, they are the most morally corrupt and degenerate group of men I have ever had the displeasure of coming into contact with. Men protect their women. They do not degrade them in public and elevate other races of women. This might sound mean, but I now feel indifferent compared to before when I see in the news that another Black American man has been killed by the police. These disgusting Black American men cannot even protect themselves from white men, never mind protecting their own women and black babies. They are pathetic and the most disgusting and degenerate group of men in my opinion. I would advise all African immigrants living in the US to do everything they can to retain their African culture and not to copy the worst and most disgusting aspects of Black American men culture. I do not want that part of their culture imported into Africa by returning Africans. In terms of culture, Black American men are very influential. It is unfortunate that they have not used that influence to better their group. Instead, they've used it to degrade their women and elevate other races of women. And the moment they can rub $2 together, they go out therere looking for a non-Black women. They are neither providers nor protectors of their women and black babies. These men have no honour, no shame, no pride, and certainly no dignity. SMH! In their music videos, they use Black American women and depict them as cheap and sexually provacative, not to mention calling them the B word. However, non-Black women (or mixed women as close to whiteness) are portrayed as the beautiful, dignified, love interest. I give the Black American community between 150 to 200 years. In 200 years time (if not less), that community will die out and black skin will be a relic of the past - mostly thanks to their men. These men are disgusting and sick. I will never ever allow my nephews or nieces to listen /watch their crap music. If I ever see it, I turn it off or take it and burn it. I will not partake in the supporting of degenerates. Distant yourself from them and retain your African culture. They have now reached the point of no return. They are beyond help.

Do you think black women should date brown skin men that are not African American? Since most of these African American men have lost their way. I just decided to be single. But most African American women are dating outside there race . Or just living a life of celibacy.
@Njoofene
@Njoofene 2 года назад
@@jucyjay8398 As evident in my post above, I do not encourage interracial dating for Black men or women. Although I totally understand the plight of Black American women due to their men's behaviour, Black American women can have any man they want. However, to preserve their race even if their men are not doing it, I do not encourage race mixing. The grass isn't always greener, and the fact that Black Americans are not the majority, by race mixing, it would only be a matter of time before the extermination of their ethnic group. Let me be absolutely clear, mixed race people (of Black heritage) in general do not date Black, but prefer to date white, other mixed people, or even other races before dating black. Of course there are exception, but collectively, that statement still holds. Therefore, that in itself would lead to the end of blacks in the new world. You will be creating mixed race children who in turn will go and procreate with your own oppressor. Soon, Black Americans will be replaced by mixed race people (this phenomenon has already started), and Blacks will be a relic of the past just like in Argentina. Although the Black Argentinians where wiped out (hence why you rarely see Afro-Argentinians), and they did not have a choice in the matter as it was state sanctioned by the country's whitening program, Black Americans on the other hand have a choice but are deliberately and actively participating in their own extinction thanks to their men (for the most part). Afro-Argentinians didn't have a choice, Black Americans do. Black Americans men are not the only Black men in the world. Black American women have two options in my opinion: 1) they can say: well, since Black American men (not all, but as a collectively) are deliberately and desperately trying to procreate with others to the expense of their own race, let's just join them and speed up the process of bringing the group to an early extinction in the United States. 2) they can think long term and find mates in other Black groups. There is nothing more valuable than the survival of a race and its culture and traditions. The importance of passing down your ancestors' phenotype, culture, race, traditions, etc, in tact, is not something to be underestimated. It is very important and will form the character of those descendants yet to be born. It is not something to throw away. Those who are on the right side of history will be remembered, and those aren't will be disgraced, ridiculed or forgotten. We do not live for now. We live for our children and our children's children, and descendants to come. Your action today will affect your entire bloodline for generations to come. It is so sad that Black American men have not used their influence and power to advance their group. So sad!

Thats nice and i appreciate you but honestly, African black men are not exempt from this behavior. I have see African men marrying white women. There is a President of an African country that currently has a White woman as his first lady! There was recently a situation of a Nigerian American man who made it his job to shit on black women on the daily onlt to be murdered by his white girlfriend. And while he obvioisly was influenced by American culture, do not blame this Entirely on Black American men. They clearly arent the only ones.

@@Backrootedwithjamie Hello! I have the same mindset. I am too traumatized from dealing with African American men. I am proud to be AA/ADOS/FBA, but the men of my group are sadly lost. I am also hesitant about dating African or Caribbean men because their respective cultures often have a lot of anti-Black American sentiments, and I do not have the time, patience nor energy to deal with that. I understand why Black women are dating non-Black men and I do not resent them nor look down on them. I respect them and completely understand. Can I do the same? Not sure. Do I really want to? No, because ideally I would like to date, marry and procreate with someone who looks like me but the men that looks like me don’t desire me. So what does a woman like me does? The best option is to choose single hood and celibacy. I am a Christian, I understand everyone is not and I have no qualms about that. I am going to leave my future mate, if any, in the hands of my Heavenly Father. There’s no where in the Bible where a woman went out seeking a man, unless she was a harlot. I am not that, so I will sit back and let one choose me. Hopefully by that time, I am free from my anxieties about Black men (globally) and non-Black men.

Hello Mayowa. I have a video idea on colorism that you could make. Could you please address the colorism that's in the Netflix show "Dear White People"? I think it would be really important to address this show because, despite the fact that they have the roles reversed for the characters, they still denote much of it to colorism. The lead "heroine" is still a light skinned girl (despite her being an activist for black rights) and the antagonist "mean girl" is still a dark skinned girl (despite her surrounding herself with white friends and straightening her hair to fit white conventional beauty standards). I think it would be really great to make a video on this because obviously the directors were very much colorist and couldn't look past the idea of making a light-skinned person the main character (yet again).

First time hearing this perspective on light skin women dating dark skin men. Deep. I’m definitely more attracted to darker skin men even though my ex was mixed Korean and Black. I honestly feel like my attraction had to do with me wanting to have more brown children as I remember how Malcom X said his mother choose the darkest man she could find for that same reason.😞 also, I had a family member SA me growing up. It unfortunately went on for years and Iam confident it influenced my preferences as I was groomed very early by being treated quite favorably. I literally remember being jealous of his first girlfriend🙁. Thankfully, I found counseling and a survivors group to help process that trauma. I was in my 30’s before I even realized how much that affected my life.. Btw, super cute eyebrows😉 love a positive ass switch up🥰

We cannot escape our blackness true but being fully black is something nobody can take from us period. Many have fought to marry despite of race or gender. Cause love doesnt have a face. But self hate does and its your reflection not all but some with "a type" hate themselves or even their parents. Its an attempt to change the pattern. HOWEVER many others like myself just fall in love by chance. Much love peace and understanding to all.

This video! I loved your analysis of the situation. This is so 😩 like I wish people would just stop with the colorism. I'm always trying to explain this to my partner who grew up in the Caribbean. As far as your outfit goes, I loved the white eyebrows and the one-shoulder action you were giving.

On this note, everyone, check out RASHIDA STROBER, she is the Mother of DARKISM theory activism and is the first one to pin this therm. She is a legend and will go in Herstory for what she is doing right now.

I do believe that Saweetie finds black women beautiful and that she doesn't agree with Too Short. However, she definitely could have done a lot more to defend us. At the end though, the hate she is receiving is unnecessary. People should be directing that energy towards Too Short.

I am not a Saweetie fan, (I have nothing against her, but I'm damn near 40 so it's just not my vibe), but sometimes when ppl put you on the spot like that you might freeze up in the moment and wish you would have said something different in hindsight. Now his old black ass should know better. I was a TooShort fan. I literally had his "Cocktails" tape. I'm can't say I'm surprised though. Most darkskin black male rappers are colorist loudly and proudly.

13:51 When I think darkskinned I think gentle, mostly cause of my dad I guess, I don't really know many people outside of my family yet and so the only exposure i get to such stereotypes is through the media. I hope I continue to think this way because you know how this stuff just slides in subliminlly.

Where was the part that disparaged black women? When did he even pronounce the words 'Black Women?'. Black man has preference, black women most affected smh.

Actually her fanbase is Icy Gang and look I'm don't think it's Saweetie's fault, it's Too Short making him played himself talking about how like mixed-race women, plus also look I'm don't mind people having a preference but when you saying all that stuff in that clip it's gives me a slide eye and felt weird about it.

At the end of the day it’s his ignorance that put her in an awkward position. As much as we would like it to be defending us isn’t her responsibility. He shouldn’t have said that mess in the first place.

Black men don’t want black women. But black women don’t want to hear it

At the same time î believe dark skin black women should also exercise their right because they do have that right being that it isn’t a black woman’s bag to carry when someone refuses to lift their head out of their own ignorance. People make themselves look bad individually it’s just not your job inherently because you are dark skin to counter someone’s idiotic sentiments. In the same way that î have been passive î think it’s your right to not have to argue with fools about things you know you’re correct on. It’s definitely ore about expression of self irregardless of if someone will agree, but discerning who is worth your energy will save a lot of giving an intellectual analysis to groups of black men who still thinks it’s okay to perpetuate a culture based framed like a prepubescent little boy’s s fantasy. Again I believe when I was passive it wasn’t me claiming the middle it was me completely disregarding this human as someone I need to interact with ever again.
