The way I look at Masquerade/Alice is that because she was exposed to the negative energy, she received an alter ego that was her opposite, in the same way that old photographs had negatives. Alice was peaceful, serene and a girl while Masquerade was aggressive, chaotic and a boy; the exact opposite of anything Alice was. Also the writers probably made Masquerade a boy so no one would suspect Alice.
In my opinion, bakugan was the perfect game up until season 4. The power levels did get a bit crazy at the end, but everything was interesting. I liked the ball form bakugan, traps, and even the battle suits, mobile vehicles, and battle gear. The gameplay rules balanced them out big time. I also liked the story and bakugan style in every season. It made them unique. My only problems were the bakunanos, mechtogan/mechtogan titans, and giant figures like dragonoid destroyer and dharak collosus. Dragonoid collosus as well but it at least opened up like a bakugan ( I guess dragonoid destroyer too, but they were a bit much. ) Still, bakugan is so awesome!
Also, Latin American Dan was the voice of Josh (drake and Josh) and masquerade had the voice of Drake (Drake and Josh, too) so the battle between these two was just E P I C
The females were pretty and very different in terms of design. Fabia was the best in terms of character. She was a mix of all thw girls before. Heiaos like runo. Crush on dan like julia. Looks like shuns mom. And mystery like alice. Fabia is the best female and so badass
@@xxkjgaminghdxx1647 she snuck into a kingdom and stole back her loves bakugan and then fought in the front line. Only girl better is alice and mira I think her name was. The girl with vulcannoid. Runo just fell off each season yet Alice got better as time went on teaching the sub tera users to fight. The Chinese girl was also cool and design was incredible. And the bag guys in season 2 the blue haired girl who fell into a void with the darkus guy was cool. Later charcatrrs were bland but ok. Who do you like. Im just remembering for now.
The thing is me and my friends never watched season 1 we only watched season 2,3 and 4. But I’m pretty sure the thing that made me remember bakugan was my boi helios even though I rewatched it and he is really one dimensional and to this day I still wonder why I love Helios.
Maskqurade was so fucking cool. I really can't explain why but me and my friends always thougth that he was great when we were kids. That final battle with Dan was amazing and the twist when he turned out to be Alice shooks me to even this day. Maybe it's because how innocent of a person Alice was and then she is revealed to be this super powerful and evil Brawler we've been seeing for so long. They say that power corrupts and maybe that's why it works so well. Masqurade wanted to be the strongest brawler and after he had his all out battle with Dan you can just feel his satisfaction before revealing himself. Sorry for my rambling, just trying to explain why I still love this when I'm 17. Please keep making Bakugan videos Negative! They are the ligth of my life.
The soundtracks for each Bakugan Battle are really amazing. That's something that doesn't really get noticed. But hey, watch one or two battles, and listen to how the music just speeds up and makes the battles more exciting. It's great
Yeah, antagonists and twists connected to them were one of the biggest advantages of the show. Masquerade, Spectra, Wiseman, even Mag Mel, who was terribly written, had that great aura of mystery and power around them. Vexos were great too, with their diversed personalities and different reasons for fighting against brawlers. Season 3 villains had potential, but it was wasted by execution. I'm not gonna remember villains who were killed by Barodius going mad in the finale, because that shows how little they actually meant. Kazarina on the other hand was awesome with her hypnosis abilities and power hunger. Late season 4 is wasted potential once again. While Wiseman's badassness is undebatable for me, Nonets needed (and deserved) more screentime. Anubias and Sellon... I'm not gonna talk about them.
PT Carbon Productions yeah I felt the same about the villains; they had a power rangers likeness to them where their motives were cliche, but they had dialouge and in fighting that made them feel more deeper it made me want them as our main characters instead would have been interesting to see their downfalls with their story perspective in the middle
@@TheKpa11 We got that with Vexos and various Naga supporters, like Masquerade or Rabedeer. And Ren's Team, because we needed to know why they have switched sides. The results were truly wonderful: I consider the episodes focused on Volt and Zenet my favourites, as they were revealed to be very tragic and relatable characters. I was feeling so sorry for them, especially when they "died" at the end of their respective episodes.
@@ptcarbonproductions2013 Yeah I really liked Volt's battle against Gus, but I also really like Hydron's climax of getting abused by his dead followed by him mentally breaking down and finally just giving up and killing himself with his dad. I liked some of the in fighting in the Gundalian ranks, how everyone was trying to gain favor with the emperor and Kazerina especially and her death (Though there was perhaps too much in fighting resulting in Gundalia looking like idiots) and finally the Mectogan; while I didn't like them cause their inclusion made things repetitive and tiresome, I REALLY liked their CGI and designs and I did enjoy the Wandering Mechtogan and just their madness in wanting to be rid of all Bakugan and that "Evil vs Evil" fight was pretty cool too.
Imo, S1 and New Vestroia were the two best seasons. Season 1 was good because of the morals behind it, the characters, the plot twists, etc. I personally loved new vestroia because the animation quality was much better, and it put a new twist on the franchise, being kinda futuristic and high-tech. Gundalian Invaders is where I kinda fell off. It was pretty okay but not too remarkable. Mechtanium Surge was a huge letdown to the series to me. Arc 1 was pretty neat and had a lot of cool concepts and even tried a return to form back to season 1 by having special morals to the story. Mechtanium Surge Arc 2 was bad though. They threw all concept of bakugan being a "game" out the window, the battles felt rushed and repetitive (throw out a bakugan and spam ability cards for a few minutes) and a lot of the new additions, like the Mechtogan/Mechtogan titans, Battle Suits, and BakuFusion felt super forced and awkward. Here's hoping that battle planet will be able to give us a perfect dose of old and new.
ChiztheBomb Couldn't agree with you more things started going downhill after New Vestroia ended and Gundalian Invaders started (U could literally cut out Gundalian invader Arc and the overall plot wouldn't change at all)
Back when I was in elementary school, I bought a Bakugan book that spoiled a lot of season one. Including Masquerade's identity, which I then spoiled to all my friends.
That honestly is the biggest surprise to me about Bakugan that so many other people liked it, I mean it could have easily been a one and done anime it really could have, but then Season 2 came and it was interesting for a bit......and then it kept going and going and it did have some more interesting dialogue bits and darkness to it that made it "Edgy" to me at least and looking on youtube the videos were like in the millions it was like a cult classic in its own right (Though i think that's died down at this point) Also it REALLY REALLY helped that the show was airing not only on Cartoonetwork, but teletoons (Which is the version that's online with the "We'll be right back screens" and a couple of violent scenes uncut) so you could watch the episodes like 2 a piece rather than once a week
In the japanes version makes more sense, but the writing is still not the best xD but at least the battles makes sense, but yeah masquerade is the beeeeeest
@@bautistapodesta7900 there is not any sub version, only the raws with japanese dub, and here in youtube isnt all of them, but a friend of mine will upload them soon in japanese sub english
Alright, so I haven't watched Bakugan in like a decade, but here is my take based on this video. Sure Bakugan probably wasn't intentionally progressive, but I still kind of see Masquerade as a some what progressive thing. Not in an LGBT sense though. Most other toyetic shonen stuff I've watched always have the single token girl, maybe two. The treatment of those girls in more recent shows have gotten better and there were probably shows that also treated their female characters well around the same time, but Bakugan is still what i remember seeing the most as it was the most popular in my Elementary school. What I see though is that there is definitely something very powerful in seeing a female character in the role of a villain. I know as a kid, it was something I didn't see often. And like you said, the fact the cast didn't even comment on the fact she was a girl adds to this. They may not have meant it to portray it like that, but they kinda said "Yes, your most powerful proponent can be a girl, and that doesn't make a difference all." I might be thinking too deep into it, but it just feels so cool to me. I already kinda wanted to rewatch old Bakugan because of Battle Planet but this actually makes me want to check it out even more to make sure I'm not reading too much into this.
So are just ignore the fact that tgw writers still felt the need to make her guy when she was a villain. Really isn't all that progressive when you think about it.
Something i noticed (which may not be relevant anymore) is why that, in S2, did they introduce the idea of Spectra being Keith so quickly? All we knew was that Keith was some spooky brother of Mira who just randomly disappeared. We had literally no connections to the character and most people didn't even remember what he looked like until the reveal. If we had a few episodes focused less on "brawling" ( but still having some on it) and more on the characters, reveals like these would have been like: "Woah! That's really cool!" but instead they felt pushed out of the way just so they could promote how no kid could get MKII Helios and I'm still triggeRED TO THIS DAY- Gus on the other hand, despite being as important as Baron (which really isnt that high) was given more character that most Vexos. AND Gus acted like a mindless servant, they became a huge ass by nearly killing Volt (wtf by the way) He had motives for his actions, you could tell why he was who he was and his character was only important because he was one of the two only Vexos who survived. anyway ye this went on too long. but spectra in s5 as a darkus?? pretty cool and helios came back so i was happy. s3 and s4 still did suck a large majority more because they introduced so many new toys in one setting and characters just seemed to be evil because they were evil. s1 is spicy though,,
I used to love this show back when it came out! My dad and I used to watch it early in the mornings on Cartoon Network. Nice too see someone talking about it!
I started collecting bakugan when I was 3! I didn't even know that there was a game until I was 9. The way my mom said I started following her around just saying "bakugan, I want bakugan." Eventually she saw a commercial for it. One day we went to Target and me and my uncle went to look at the toys. We came back and we said we found bakugan! It was some sort of starter pack and it was 50$. But being an only child....I got exactly what I wanted. I treated my cards and bakugan like Crap! I found my old collection and either the gate cards were torn a scraped or most of the bakugan wouldn't close properly. I had so many good cards to looking back! When I found out there was going to be a reboot I kinda thought of it as a way to redeem myself. I might sound weird but, it was part of my childhood and I will never forget it!
While Bakungan did play a part in my childhood, it’s not a show I remember fondly(or at all) after the first season but I definitely don’t remember any LGBT stuff surrounding masquerade🤔🤔
3:32-3:38 Gosh I loved Preyas, even after all these years I have never thought about changing my username lolo. 4:40 I laughed so hard when I first saw this. This was suppose to be a serious conversation but I can't help but laugh in the end XD
Worst part of thr series by far in all of bakugan. Skyrus leaving shun. It broke my heart knowing shun had to see skyrus leave and that his mom gave him the bakugan. And then it made it worse years later that i found out shuns mom died and her parting gift meant to protect him leaves him. That always stuck to me as the worst part. But i ship shun and fabia as she is like his mother. Or with alice as they work well off each other
It was a perfect mix of cards and collectables. If you dont play the game. You can still collect the toys. Bakugan online made it more easy to play online while collecting new bakugan to use online. Gundam bakugan was ok but not fun as it cant be played
I think what made Bakugan stick out for me growing up was because it was something I never seen before (as you would expect from a young kid) but even still I haven’t come across anything that tried to do what Bakugan did. Even still it’s something that I’m glad was around and I’m happy to see now that it appears to be making a return
An then, they made Alice into a secondary character and let her lose her last battle in New Vestroia. Damn, there goes the most interesting character of all Bakugan.
Now.... I know that this is an old show and I shouldn't have an issue with it since it was a kids show, but.... There were so many things that infuriated me about one thing... Masquerade's and Alice's character development. There are good characters and everything, but what infuriates me is that... Well, Masquerade just suddenly turns good. Why?! Why was that a sudden thing. Here is what I would've done. I would've kept everything going, but... I would have ended season one there. Season 2 would have been to find Alice, so that they could take on Naga with all six attributes while Alice is finding a way to control herself and have stronger willpower than Masquerade. Masquerade would have taken control and tried to battle the battle brawlers more, but he would keep losing, because slowly, but surely... Alice would be able to fight back for control. Heck, at one point, Alice regains control, takes off the mask and saves Dan and the gang. Then, Alice and Masquerade would have a battle inside of themselves, but... Unlike the fake Alice and Masquerade battle, Alice would win and instead of banishing him... She would ask him to help the brawlers... Which he accepts and does so. Then they can go as far as they did. I know this seems like rough draft writing, but honestly... I just wanted to let this out.
There’s a channel that’s been uploading the original Japanese versions of the episodes and subbing them. The rules make much more sense in that version, and just everything in general makes more sense.
I liked the simpler times of Bakugan. Before traps, gear and metal. A plastic ball that transforms into a bad ass fighting beast. But I think it would be great if Bakugan had an underlying message. And I think a message about acceptance would be perfect especially in this time.
on some marketing (Like the Bakugan holders) showed Alice and Masquerade together in the same pose and only after the episode when Masquerade took off the mask blew me away due to the truth being right in front of me all that time.
The funniest thing is I literally just had the feeling to go and watch it over and this pops up how wonderful! And honestly masquerade being Alis was one of my biggest childhood plot twists haha
The Bakugan anime had the potential to be amazing, I think the biggest issue was the pacing, what I find is that lots of newer writers have a very hard time balancing action scenes with story building and end up just making it a lot of battle sequences with no finished plot, and that’s what Bakugan felt like. However I do think the anime was incredible for what it was, which is basically just a huge ad. I definitely prefer it to shows like Yugioh and Beyblade (except Metal Series, Metal Series was fuckin great). Had Bakugan paced it’s story a lot better and not rushed to the action in every episode I think it would have been much better all around
Dan vs Masquerade final battle is the best in all of bakugan history, the speech from masquerade just blown my mind, and plus alice being masquerade is just a shocker
Firmly believe that despite the... less than stellar writing job, Battle Brawlers is what’s truly worth watching in the series... and that’s about it. You commented on how their were forced battles that felt more like filler with little rules. Well, onwards, most episodes were centered on unnecessary battles, with all hints of rules and strategy that they once semi-stuck to in favor of “Shout Ability Activate, make Number Big”. The series largely fell over time, and I found it a legitimate struggle to watch after New Vestroia
I don't think I really enjoyed the show after Season 2...I believe I dropped it in Season 3. The cast shouldn't have changed that much. There were new members each season and only 3 of the characters stayed around if I'm correct. Dan, Shun, and Muricho. Also, I didn't like how the show didn't follow the rules of the game. Yu-Gi-Oh did this in it's first series, not sure about the second one. But I think it's a little more faithful these days. I haven't watched Yu-Gi-Oh since Zexal so I know the rules weren't correct for the numbers. "Only a number can defeat a number" was a lie.
"Only a number can defeat a number" is a effect the all numbers have. Tcg did not want to give all number monsters that effect because at that time it was too powerful. A lot of cards has are changed from anime to tcg because of being too powerful or sometime made more powerful to making the cards work. Tcg adapts cards form the anime not the other way around. (The newest season vrains is taking same cards from the tcg because of lack of time prepare to animate or write the episodes)
I liked the original show, but I didn't think it was meant to be taken that far. I thought it was just a unique and shocking twist at the time. But I guess what you say did add more depth to the show. All I know was that Fabia(from the third season)was the hottest girl in the show, with Alice and Julie being second.
Masquerade sounds like Adam Taurus from RWBY. Now I know where I've heard his voice before. Whenever I was watching RWBY that always got to me like "Where have I heard Adams voice before!?"
Yep. Masquerade, I love that character and the fact that he was their best friend all along, of course that friend being Alice. 'Cause we all know that Alice is love
HaloNoble1 I see where you are coming from but I still think over all it is very good as they introduce new mechanics and ideas which make sense in universe
Robert Thompson well battle suits in season 4 was kinda a bit much. Mechtogans were cool but were basically giant robot bakugan traps. My biggest gripe was bakunano when battle gears already existed since season 2. Bakunano was very redundant.
Robert Thompson oh, and one more thing I did love season 2 as it brought newer stuff. I just hated how the original female brawlers of the group were pushed to irrelevancy in later seasons.
Off topic, but I would love to see a "What Happened to Puzzle & Dragons". The anime in particular has hit a stopping point in terms of the English Dub for unknown reasons, and not many people are aware of the games and spinoffs it created.
masquerade lines is funny lol. And yes, i was shocked that it was alice....i was a kid and i didn't noticed those hints. masquerade is a crazy gamer kid hahaha
Imo, I definitely still love/remember it for the marbles. But great analisis I'll definitely gonna watch the whole series this time and not abandon it a few episodes after xP
When i watched the show, i had a quiet thought that when alice is gone, masqurade appears, but i wasnt sure because of my youth. But it was a good twist
look im romanian and ive been watching your videos and i like them a lot.in romania they played bakugan on tv in the 2000s 2008 2010 and im 14 amd i can completly relate btw PRAYUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The real reason why I like Bakugan it had a certain hype to it when I think the music opening was cool and I think some of the battles were cool and when I think of Bakugan as a kid I thought of it as what if rock stars made a card game
I'm not gonna lie me an my brother figured it out by the episode they suspected one of the brawlers could be masquerade, but what really shocked me when i was younger and made me applaud the show was when Dan and Runo actually started dating. It wasn't a passing remark that were going out and left at that, but was actually part of some episodes conflicts. The shows plot was pretty bad either way.. especially when they just let shun back in with no repercussions
How I wish Masquerade faced Spectra 😤😤 either way we all love Alice and to me Masquerade is just a figment of Alice's imagination brought to life by the silent core, he represents her inner strength ,her love for battles to the extreme and also her scary side
I started watching bakugan when new vestoria was around, I think. And after watching it at start I couldn't watch orginals because how different battle rules where but after while I watched orginals. At that time I watched on CN.
It has a better main Hero than the one in Pokemon, have actually good action despite the repetitive use of the same old soundtrack, has good villians and good Morales.
The biggest issue with Baku Gan is that in the first episode Dan can’t recognize a terros (the ground one I think) and it is later revieled that he helped create bakugan
Okay. this might of been mentioned and this is about bakugan planet. but like in BuddyFight ace Maybe the characters are their son/Daughter from last season... We don't know until we see
It was just the Perfect game ... Had the bakugan and cards and the series was pretty cool ...but eventually it got too complicated and the power levels too high and idk it moved at a really fast pace
my opinion was actually season 1 battle brawlers and season 2 new vestroia season 1 is what it got me for the game, the toys, the cards, the everything where the characters were interesting the bakugan were interesting, in the old days, if i go to a store i always try to find bakugan in the toys section if the store going to close i rush and put the bakugan to the counter and always loved them opening up the package at home season 2 is a game changer where i see just one gate card and a life gauge and SPINNING BAKUGANS WERE A THING i wish i had those and the game still the same in reality the videogames bakugan battle brawlers and the defenders of the core still played them except for defenders of the core i need an emulator real quick
