George Bran Yea I graduated from Harvard. It’s definitely difficult to maintain a 4.0 over 4 years. He was trying to come across and give it a deep philosophical twist as to why a 4.0 was a failure. But ultimately looks pretentious and arrogant.

@mouse3751
@mouse3751 5 лет назад
Paraquito Entirely disagree. Again, this is a taste thing, but I think that what you're defining as "attractive" is Western beauty standards, which aren't necessarily the truth - they're just cultural. Beauty isn't a natural thing that's set in stone, it's entirely dependent on a society. You may very well find those standards attractive, and that's fine, but it would be a mistake to say that that's the definition of what it means to be attractive. Personally, I genuinely think John's pretty handsome, as do plenty of other people.

John Fish inspired me to spend a year in a technical collage getting a cert IV in programing, I'm now in one of the top 2% universities in the world and in my first year studying a BA in Computer Science. John Fish showed me you can have a technical aptitude and still be creative. John Fish makes me believe if he can do it I can. *studies at harvard* I'm Not genius level smart If not you, then who?
@rafaeldelvalle3265
@rafaeldelvalle3265 5 лет назад
Lucy Schneider Harvard isn’t about super genius. It’s about a community of people who stand out. Make a difference in the world. Grades and people even from there aren’t and won’t be perfect. Just like you and me. Harvard it’s not a place to figure out who’s better at math (for example). It’s about finding out, with a group of students and professors you can rely on to create, explore and be.
@lucyschneider463
@lucyschneider463 5 лет назад
@@rafaeldelvalle3265 i am well aware of all of that. Obviously, nobody is perfect. I'm also not saying that people from ivy league schools are closer to perfect than people from other schools. What I was thinking was, that John is still really really smart. I mean, as a clever person, which uni would you go to? Right, probably a good one, like harvard. This means, smart people => maybe harvard. This does not mean harvard => smart. But i think the chances, that a random student you pick is smart, are a lot higher at schools like harvard. My general point i think was, that there are definitely smarter people than John out there. But i am convinced, that John still is amongst the smartest of us.
@lucyschneider463
@lucyschneider463 5 лет назад
@space space true, geniuses will definitely find their way in life, with or without an education. But i think tve majority would still try and go to uni, just because clever people tend to be curious and therefore interested in academia, hence want to go to college. True, the internet provides a lot of valuable information. But there's a huge difference between self-teaching and being taught by the very best people from your field. I am not from the us so i do not know how colleges work exactly, but i can tell you, that at the University of Oxford (uk) you have so called tutorials, where there's one teacher with usually two students. This is a pretty effective way of supporting students in exactly the way, they need the support. Also university is a lot more structured than information on the internet. I would pick a university over the internet every single day. (Also because employers value traditional education a lot more than internet taught stuff) Hope i could clarify stuff, if you still have questions, please ask them!

I'm envious of those who have vastly superior intelligence, no advise/wisdom can make up for the difference in mental capabilities. I can't solve advanced mathematical problems on my own. I can't understand philosophical ideas as if they were my own. I cant manage a computer science course, a Swedish course, or linear algebra at all. Most people are born without certain capabilities, they're limited. Maybe us idiots will be able to transfer our conciousness to a computer to make up for the difference. Work you do in a month is work they did in a few hours at most.

Thank you for making this video, it gave me a giant perspective shift on all of your content- and honestly it made me see how much I would judge without even listening to the content. I'm a 19 year old who chose to move out at 17 to make it in the world. After 2 years of faffing about and accomplishing nothing (All while thinking I was balling) I ran into your channel and saw all that I wasn't and all that I could be. I not only learned from you, but from Gary Vee as well, who you talked about. I needed to be more grateful to my parents and actually become a man of means, so I moved back home, started community college and have been trying to better myself since. However, once I started, I became obsessed with how far behind I was to a Harvard 19 year old who had it "all figured out". All of a sudden I was labeling you the same way you mentioned in my mind- and started becoming envious. This video fixed that and helped me learn something about myself. Thank you @John Fish keep doing what ur doing :3

This is a really well thought out response video to criticism online. I think people expect that creators have everything figured out and are now able to present their life/thoughts/feelings precisely, but at the end of the day, we are all human, and we are all figuring it out. Some people just have bigger platforms than others so audiences start to expect more from these particular humans. But we are all learning and growing, and I think being open to thoughtful feedback from others, while also acknowledging that some people are just criticizing from a place of their own internalized issues, is really important. Thanks for staying curious and sharing your journey with us!

John, to be completely honest with you. I enjoy your content, your videos, your ideas. I've learned quite a few things from your videos. I think the biggest thing is people are insecure and unhappy that you are doing great things but they aren't. Not to be negative but I think that is the harsh reality. On the other hand, I can be straight up and tell you that parts of your videos do get corny. When you put those small pieces of paper over your picture and then others with a line through them, as well as ripping them apart just seems so corny and exaggerated. Again, it adds to the creativity but some times, people can find it very corny and extra. Just had to state my opinion, otherwise, keep doing your thing. Congrats on 500K!

I’ve been watching your videos since a friend introduced me about 6 months ago. Your video on studying for exams was particularly inspiring when I watched it shortly before taking an exam the day it dropped! People are always going to say negative things regardless of your greatness. And the greater you become (reaching a larger crowd) the more people will spout negativity at you. One thing I recommend from my own personal experience is that it can be counterintuitive to think of yourself as “just a teenager.” Yes you are one, but that is only true for one more year. Beyond that you’ve displayed maturity and chosen to give yourself a platform that knows no such identity. You’ve been hugely successful, and there’s no reason you shouldn’t own that success. Keep up the great work 🙌

I love the energy you put out into the world through your videos. It seems like the person you portray to the world is close to the person you truly are in private. Not many people now live and display themselves that way. I love your genuineness and authenticity. I'm older than you but have learned many things from you. Thank you for sharing with us. :-)

John! I've been watching your videos for 6 months and I 'm a lot much motivated by the things you do. I remember you saying about three words "JUST KEEP PLAYING" and I've discovered this is the only way we are gonna differentiate ourselves from people who are doing nothing but criticizing everyone else who is trying to achieve his dream. THANKS FOR UPLOADING SUCH AN AMAZING CONTENT.

Thanks for saying all this things, sometimes I feel like I´m not going to reach all things I want and have to do, college stress me sometimes, sometimes I feel like I haven done things that I should have done at my age ( I´m 19 too); but despite all those things, when I see your videos I feel better, because the things you say are really helpfull, and this video in particular has remember me that one thing: I´m a teen that has made some mistakes and probably will made more, but thats what make us who we are and we learn from them to improve ourselves, THANK YOU JOHN FISH :)

Every time I feel unmotivated, I come to this channel and my day ends up being way more productive than it would've otherwise. It's really great to know your perspective on things, so I'm glad you're gonna not let this influence your content. Wish I could view criticism this maturely. Keep up the amazing work!

Hello John. I don't think there is need for explanations (kind of). You are doing very, very well. Think yourself as a colour, there always be people who will prefer another one, even for no reason, it doesn't matter, your "colour" is perfectly fine. Of course some opinions may hurt, it's in our nature to please every one but at some point we realize it's not possible, just like colours. Here there's plenty of people who really value and appreciate what are you doing, people who genuinely admire you.

@@murphjones2244 Actually, I have Social Anxiety. I get nervous in front of people a lot so my presentation didn't have any emotions. That's why they called me so...
@murphjones2244
@murphjones2244 5 лет назад
@@aalia8345 I can relate to you like none other. In fact the reason I asked was because I was wondering if we had similar stories. I grew up in Denver and all my life I've been really thin. Throughout my childhood I was always really social, but even though I was super social people were just never having it with me. Most people weren't interested in talking. I'd crack jokes that didn't offend anyone and weren't inappropriate to say and just get eye rolls. I think it had a lot to do with my size. I was made fun of mercilessly for that. Right around the beginning of sophomore year of high school all my failed social experiences (which included finding out that a lot of people said they didn't like me behind my back) just made me feel so embarrassed deep down, and I developed social anxiety disorder. I'm 22 and since age 16 I've been as monotone as a person can be. From sophomore through senior year I was imitated CONSTANTLY, not just by students but teachers as well. Speech class and class presentations in general were pure hell. Someone would openly groan and the class would all snicker. People would don smirks and smugly tell me I was really creepy, weird, and awkward. I know with all my heart that I'm not creepy, and the awkwardness was something I couldn't help with all the shame and bad experiences associated with social anxiety disorder. To this day I'm not comfortable around new people and even ordering in a fast food joint can be hard. I'm a voracious reader because I imagine that the author is accepting me for who I am and sharing stories, knowledge, and ideas with me. You are not alone. I don't know your full story but I know that having that insecurity sucks so badly. Especially because social anxiety and depression can go hand in hand. What's helped me so much is realizing that so many people have drooped their eyelids to near closed and spoke robotically around me, but one day I will have an accomplishment that will make the whole world stop and stare with wide eyed expressions. That goal gets me out of bed and working hard every day to be the best person possible. I know that in this reply I seem to have alienated the whole world in some parts, but I do realize that there are good people out there. FIND THEM. You need affection to have the best life possible. Part of doing that involves knowing that you're worthy of respect and that you can beat those bad people simply by working to expand your social life.

@@murphjones2244 @Murph Jones People misunderstand us a lot. I avoid social gatherings even with my friends and family. I remeber eating nothing in college during my first week because of my social anxiety. I have missed out on my life. I really hope that you achieve something great in life.More power to you!

Hey there, first of all. I'm Brazilian (speak Portuguese) I'm over down here, in south America, live in Brazil my names isn't the nickname right here and I'm 18. If some phase or expression doesn't make sense then ignore it because I'm not English fluently and I won't use Google to read here. So.. Where I start? In Brazil we have ENEM its like a Brazilian SAT and here have to study a lot to get in a good university like in others countries. I was a senior in high school last year and I studied so so hard that I even stopped checking my social media but in the end of the day I didn't get in a good university. None of them😭but I'm doing a little course that is like a review of all subjects that we study in high school. I'm just saying it bc I found ur channel and you give me power, force, energy to get up my head and be calm and study again. Thanks man🙏 although there are bad people that talk shits behind our back I'm here to give an exemple that u help people :) My last math teacher used to say in class he never will can please everybody and it's true in life too in real life we never will be able to please all the world. Of course you have to reflect the reason they saying it but you can also consider like me here :)

I really like the idea of doing you something you like and do not get influenced by others. I think you have made this. Doing RU-vid channel itself is already a sign of you willing to express yourself and not afraid of others' judgements. For me, doing RU-vid channel is like exposing oneself to the outside world and is highly likely to attract critisims. The thought of creating videos has been in my head for a very long time but I haven't got the courage to do it. I respect those ccreators who is confident enough to show themselves to the world. I think you are doing great enough by uploading videos day by day and documenting your successes and failures. You are a great creator in my heart and I like the way you are. Keep this up. 😘
