I understand the analogy of comparing God to a jealous spouse. We don't need to be cheating on our spouses, but to say, " We *benefit* from worshipping God" is a bit much. The only benefit we get is not being destroyed by him.
I actually think it makes more sense to say we benefit from worship than to say God does. Worship helps us maintain a proper view of our position in the universe. Helps us to feel rightful gratitude. I don’t, however, understand what God is gonna do with an ego boost.

Well sure not going to hell sure is a benefit, but hell gets lost in my memory considering all that we receive, which includes: the law written in our hearts, wisdom, help from the Holy Spirit, fellowship & relationship with a glorious and good God, the fruits of the Holy Spirit, eternal life in paradise and much more (The list could go on and I could get breakdown the fruits of the spirit and the wondrous experience of living with God but that would make this way longer).

Worship means to recognize who someone is. Praise means to recognize what someone has done. In the short time we spend focusing on who God is and what He's done, we are spending that much time focusing on something other than ourselves. An idol means "a nothing." I believe the speaker indirectly answered it when he shared the reason why God is a jealous God. God wants to be to worshipped so that the worshipper gets the benefit of worshipping Him and not to be misled by false gods.

It is the one who brings the woman down the basement to be tortured as being their fault because the woman didn't make the choice to be tortured instead it was by force. But what I was talking about is another different thing from yours. It says that God is all loving and that he wants us to come to repentance and to follow him, yet people deny the truth and reject Jesus therefore if they don't want to be with him then they won't because its of Free Will that God gave them. So that is why they bring themselves to hell because they made the Choice to reject him.
God is capable of all things, but YOU have to be willing to allow Him to change you. God gave you the free will to follow His way, or follow the way of the world. He is more that willing to save you, but you have to want it. So if you do not want anything to do with God now, what makes you think you would want Him in eternity? Yes, He is the only true God (That is why we capitalize His name) But you can idolize people and things and put them at a higher value than God. What do you care about the most? Family? Friends Money? You can even idolize yourself without being aware of it. Whatever it is, that's what your god is. So when the law says, 'you shall not have any other gods before Him' it means that you should hold the one true living God as the highest value and treasure of your life. All these other tiny "gods" are going to pass away when you die. You're not going to have them forever. But God will be there forever, because He is eternal. And if you have God, you're good to go, because nothing else and no one else in this world will compare.

We have been taught by religious authorities that since we have been created by God we must worship and please God by keeping His Laws. But this is not the TRUTH. Worshipping God is a pagan ritual. Some people don’t want to worship you. They actually hate you even though you created them and gave them so many blessings and loved them. If only you could show them how much you care about them. We don't give money to our church for the Pastor to keep, it's to pay the bills for the building in which we all commune together to worship together and study God's word, it's to pay for food to feed us and to also feed the ones in need in our community. We don't buy people like Frank's books to make him a rich man according to the world's standards, we do so because he provides resources for us to be able to defend our faith and even answer questions that we may have. Sure there is the internet but there's nothing like picking up a physical copy of a book to obtain knowledge and wisdom. I'm also confident that these events are free as well, and if there is a fee, it is to pay for the food and resources that they will hand out. So I get where you're coming from, because I used to feel that way at first before I knew Jesus Christ, but just remember that the enemy will twist all of your thoughts in your head, anything to prevent you from getting closer to God.
God does not require worship. Other gods require worship so they can gain power. God DESIRES humans to worship Him for our own benefit, not His benefit. If the entire human race went blind, it would in no way hinder the glory of the sun. Only the people would lack the benefits of it. Likewise, if every single person on Earth became atheist, it would in no way hinder God at all. Only humanity would lack the benefits of belief and trust in God. It’s a hard pill for some nonbelievers to swallow: God does not need you for Him to exist. You need Him.

When you are saved, When you accept Jesus into your heart truly, you receive constant revelations of truth. You pray for those answers and God will answer them in the ways you can understand. I dug real deep, I stayed up countless nights, researching...I went from one question to the next. It took me awhile so I can't explain it all in one paragraph if your looking for scientific evidence. You have to do the research yourself you see. J Ovesen No, not really. For one, I grew up not believing in anything. I chose to believe what I believe based on the evidence that presents itself, along with common sense. Since then, I have studied and researched more and more and the Biblical God makes the most sense to me. It might not for you and that's fine, but to me it is common sense. In short. Over the many years I have chosen to believe that intelligent design is needed to create such a well tweaked planet, not only a planet but the universe as a whole. I choose not to believe matter/energy (which has no thinking process) caused everything to take place over billions of years ago. This to me is common sense.
This one needed to be short because it’s practically impossible to defend. A perfect god who proclaims envy a sin required creation and worship? I would imagine perfection involves the ability to entertain oneself or at the very least not require veneration.

silence I thought “why” questions are foolish question just like what Richard Dawkins said during a debate with William Lane Craig. Dawkins said it’s foolish to ask why did the universe exist but on this video, shermer keeps asking the why questions. Science answer the “how” question and never answer the “why” the methods to answer them are different but they are equally of importance. The limit of science can be exposed by asking the school boy’s question “why.” And to explain everything through science is therefore foolish to believe. And for open minded person, he/she must find answers beyond science from questions that science does not deal with. Truth exist therefor if science can’t answer “why” question, then the true answer for these “why” questions must be somewhere. Somewhere where the scope of science can not go to any further. I myself take science’s explanation onto how things are while I use logic for the “why” questions. Best of both worlds. It’s what you need to make our world make sense. This is why there are theist scientists. They are not limited by their work but rather expanding their knowledge.

Hello, friend. I've read the entire bible and I've read all of these verses and I've come to the conclusion even in my limited human understanding, I believe God is good and loving and most of all holy! I at one time cursed God and blasphemed Him and I told him I hated him...and then he revealed himself to me by showing me mercy and forgiveness. All because of Jesus. I didn't know why I was suffering and the suffering I had came to a climax when I blasphemed him...and then i had no where else to turn but to God, the God I hated reached out to me and a miracle happened...he turned me from an enemy into a friend...looks like you've read the Bible? What do you make of the verses where he calls us friends when we repent and turn to him? If you are an atheist, why do you hate something that doesn't exist? Why does it bother you so much?
